Factual and Empirical 5 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

The common problem I see with the UFO community - and the public in general - is that a distinction must be made between UFO's and ET's (Extra Terrestrials), as I'm sure we are all aware, the definition of `UFO' has nothing to do with ET's. I myself have always thought that the majority of sited UFO's are merely tricks of light or meteors and so forth, but one can not legitimately dismiss the few genuine sightings of `Unidentified Flying Objects'. I have always thought that these genuine sightings are of UFO's are secret military aircraft.
This assumption was validated after I recently finished reading "The SS Brotherhood of the Bell" by Joseph Farrell. This work by Farrell really shocked me with the extremely factual and empirical structure of his book, and together with his authoritative style and aura one is left with little choice but to believe that UFO's do exist and were developed by humans over 50 years ago! As amazing (and at first hand, absurd) as this sounds, once you see the documented evidence you are left with no other conclusion!

Farrell basically makes the case that Hitler's Nazis developed, amongst other technologies, various craft that were indentified by the public as UFO's, flying saucers ect.... The Nazi's used various propulsion systems which evolved from the mundane to the extremely exotic. This technology was subsequently picked up by both the Soviets and the US following the fall of Hitler's war machine. And all the evidence presented by Farrell indicates that the exotic technology was further developed by these two nations.

When one first hears of the Nazi connection to UFO's one is quite sceptical, but as one realizes the undisputed - and largely unknown - advanced technology that Nazi Germany undeniably had, suddenly the idea of supersonic exotic flying discs seem a lot more plausible. And Farrell goes to a large amount of trouble to educate the reader from the start about the advanced technology that the German scientists had actually achieved. And as Farrell makes clear from various military documents, had the allies not defeated Hitler's army when they did, the tide of the war would have irreversibly turned due to the advanced war craft that was starting to be rolled out ready for combat by Nazi Germany, for land, air and sea.

Farrell goes to an enormous amount of trouble to give the reader a background understanding of the physics that is the thesis of Farrell's book; that is the "Bell". Farrell discusses everything from suppressed "Scalar" physics, to the workings and classification of every type of nuclear weapon, to the Soviet vs US space race and the technology behind it, to the possible connection with JFK and his assassination, and the shady dealings of NASA under the control of a former Nazi scientific heavy weight (and yes, a former high ranking Nazi scientist was head of NASA!) and all sorts of topics which on the surface seem totally unrelated and absurd. But all this information is required to fully appreciate and comprehend the thesis of Farrell's work. Even if one is to disregard Farrell's main thesis, one will still gain an extraordinary amount of general knowledge from this work.

Farrell doesn't believe that UFO's have anything to do with ET's. Though Farrell is fully open to the existence of ET's, he see's no reason what-so-ever to suggest that any UFO's are of ET origin. All of the evidence and data regarding UFO's suggest that it's required technology is not exotic enough to demand the inclusion of ET's in the picture. Farrell believes that the required technology is fully within our grasp, and he makes an extremely convincing case.

Beware, this book opens a can or worms like I have never witnessed before. Every chapter leaves you wanting to know more, but considering the already large size of the book, only brief glances over many subjects were possible. Thankfully at the end of the book (well the edition that I have anyway) is a list of a couple dozen books that will quench your thirst for more. I found this book so enthralling and informative that I will probably read most of the further reading that is supplied at the end of the book.

Highly recommended!

Editorial Review:

In 1945, a mysterious Nazi secret weapons project code-named The Bell left its underground bunker in lower Silesia, with its project documentation, and the 4-star SS general Hans Kammler. Taken aboard a massive six engine Junkers 390 ultra-long range aircraft, The Bell, Kammler, and all project records disappeared completely, along with the gigantic Junkers 390 carrying them. It has been speculated that it flew to Argentina. As a prelude to this disappearing act, the SS murdered most of the scientists and technicians involved with the project, a secret weapon that, according to one German Nobel prize-winning physicist, was given a classification of decisive for the war -- the highest security classification. Offered here is a range of exotic technologies the Nazis researched, and challenges to the conventional views of the end of World War Two, the Roswell incident, and the beginning of MAJIC-12, the government’s alleged secret team of UFO investigators.

A must read!! 5 out of 5 stars.

I really enjoyed this biography. The author researched his subject matter thoroughly and was able to write without giving the reader pre-conceptions. I was absolutely fascinated, this book separates fact from myth, gives an incredibily intimate look at Hilter and his "family" circle. Although the Nazi regime without question committed genocide on a massive scale, the main players were rather ordinary human beings in a most extraordinary time and place. I would recommend this bio to anyone wanting to explore the life and times which brought the Nazi party to power, and it's ultimate failure. These were not just a group of egotisical and insane individuals, but brilliant in their own right. I will never be able to wrap my mind around the unbridled racism of the regime, yet I can admire them. It really makes one think. If they would have used their gifts for good it most certainly would be a different world. They weren't pure evil as they are usually depicted. I would suggest reading "Mein Kampf" as a companion to this bio.

Editorial Review:

Based on previously unpublished documents, diaries, notes, photographs, and dramatic interviews with Hitler's colleagues and associates, this is the definitive biography of one of the most despised yet fascinating figures of the 20th century. Unreadable 1 out of 5 stars.

I am sure that there are some important points made in this book, but its turgid prose is so difficult to understand, it is not worth the effort. It takes its place on my bookshelf next to Being and Nothingness. Next time you see it on someone's bookshelf, ask them to summarize it, or discuss what they thought of it. You will probably get a few uncomfortable looks.

Arendt's Opus Magnum 5 out of 5 stars.

Origins, an incredibly detailed analysis of Stalinist Russia and Nazi Germany, shows Arendt's versatility in political thought. I have yet to see a political philosopher/thinker publish a work with this much depth to it, and I think it will be a long time before we see anything like it.

Many of the reviews here have done better justice to her legacy, so I will just say that if you are thinking twice about pursuing this work because of it's length, think three times.

Editorial Review:

Generally regarded as the definitive work on totalitarianism, this book is an essential component of any study of twentieth-century political movements. Arendt was one of the first to recognize that Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union were two sides of the same coin rather than opposing philosophies of Right and Left. "With the Origins of Totalitarianism Hannah Arendt emerges as the most original and profound-therefore the most valuable-political theoretician of our times" (New Leader). Index.

An Interesting Beginning 5 out of 5 stars.

I've read my share of WWII history books and this one has a different slant. I also have the sequel of this book and I'm currently awaiting the final volume. This book as well as the sequel can be used as a stand alone reference depending on how deep you want to go into the subject.

Mr. Evans goes into detail in this volume starting at the beginning of Germany and going foward so that you can have a better understanding in to what lead Germany down the path it took.

If you know nothing about the third reich or WWII Germany then this book is a great start.

Editorial Review:

There is no story in twentieth-century history more important to understand than Hitler’s rise to power and the collapse of civilization in Nazi Germany. With The Coming of the Third Reich, Richard Evans, one of the world’s most distinguished historians, has written the definitive account for our time. A masterful synthesis of a vast body of scholarly work integrated with important new research and interpretations, Evans’s history restores drama and contingency to the rise to power of Hitler and the Nazis, even as it shows how ready Germany was by the early 1930s for such a takeover to occur. The Coming of the Third Reich is a masterwork of the historian’s art and the book by which all others on the subject will be judged.

Editorial Review:

Written by the author of the legendary 1992 expose of Bush the elder, this book works from a New Deal point of view. Obama is exposed as a foundation operative and agent of Wall Street finance capital, controlled by Zbigniew Brzezinski, George Soros, and Goldman Sachs. Obama's mother was an official of the Ford Foundation, the World Bank, and US AID. By all indications, Obama was identified for future political use by Brzezinski at Columbia in 1981-1983, during Obama's secret lost years. Obama has worked for the Gamaliel Foundation, the Joyce Foundation, the Woods Fund, and the Annenberg Foundation as a community organizer - a poverty pimp, a cynical opportunist who uses suffering people as a political commodity. The foundation strategy is divide and conquer, pitting blacks against whites against Hispanics against Asians, to prevent any challenge to Wall Street. Racist provocateurs like Wright and Pfleger, along with Weatherman terrorist bombers Ayers and Dohrn, Obama's best friends, are cast in this mold. Rezko, Auchi, and Al-Sammarae represent the cesspool of Chicago graft and corruption in which Obama cavorts. Schooled in Nietzsche and Fanon, Obama qualifies as a postmodern fascist. An Obama administration would strive for brutal economic sacrifice and austerity to finance Wall Street bailouts, and for imperialist confrontation with Russia and China.

Editorial Review:

In this unprecedented critique, Bernard-Henri Lévy, one of the world’s leading intellectuals revisits his political roots, scrutinizes the totalitarianisms of the past as well as those on the horizon, and argues powerfully for a new political and moral vision for our times. Are human rights Western or universal? Does anti-Semitism have a future, and, if so, what will it look like? And how is it that progressives themselves–those who in the past defended individual rights and fought fascism–have now become the breeding ground for new kinds of dangerous attitudes: an unthinking loathing of Israel; an obsessive anti-Americanism; an idea of “tolerance” that, in its justification of Islamic fanaticism, for example, could become the “cemetery of democracies”; and an indifference, masked by relativism, to the greatest human tragedies facing the world today? Illuminating these and other questions, Lévy also brings to life his own autobiography, highlighting the thinkers he has known and scrutinized and the ideological battles he has fought over thirty years–revealing their bearing on the present.

Above all, Lévy offers a powerful new vision for progressives everywhere, one based neither on the failed idealisms of the past neither nor on their current misguided, bigoted, and dangerously sentimental attachments but on an absolute commitment to combat evil in all its guises. The “new barbarism” Levy compellingly diagnoses is real and must be confronted. At a time of ideological and political transition in America, Left in Dark Times is a polemical, incendiary articulation of the threats we all face–in many cases without our even being aware of it–and a riveting, cogent stand against those threats. Surprising and sure to be controversial, wise and free of cynicism, it is one of the most important books yet written by one of the crucial voices of our time.

Praise for Bernard-Henri Lévy’s American Vertigo

“An entertaining trip, as much in the tradition of Jack Kerouac as Tocqueville.”
The New York Times

“Perceptive, pugnacious, passionate [and] exquisitely written.”
The New York Observer

“It’s difficult to remember when a writer of any nationality so clearly and thoughtfully delineated both the good and bad in America. [Grade:] A.”
Entertainment Weekly (Editor’s Choice)

“Lévy is a true friend of the American experiment and a comrade in the American struggle against the barbarisms.”
The New Republic

“Lévy writes brilliantly. American Vertigo is filled with insights and goodwill.”
The Wall Street Journal

“Provocative . . . [Lévy is] a writer of enormous power and vitality.”
–San Francisco Chronicle

“Vigorous . . . impressive.”

In our own time... 5 out of 5 stars.
12 of 21 people found this review helpful.

This book is relevant to our nation and society in the present time. With the Terry Schiavo case in the forefront of the news, one can only reflect on the position of the courts, and the doctors, in Germany in the 1930's. The book carefully shows the slippery slope which can confront a society that fails to protect the least among us. It is not a book about another place and another time. It is a book about us, in our own time. Strongly recommended that one reads this with open eyes and and open heart to the decisions we make today.

"Physician, Heal Thyself" The Nazi Doctor and the Holocaust 5 out of 5 stars.
10 of 11 people found this review helpful.

In this detailed and well-researched account, psychologist Robert J. Lifton chronicles the Holocaust from a unique perspective: the role played by Nazi medical doctors. In doing so he explains the Nazi philosophy that formed the basis for mass murder: the necessity to heal the ills of German society by eliminating all its corrupting influences. Healing was and is the raison d'etre for the medical profession. Doctors were thus compelled to become killers in the application of this all encompassing "cure."

Lifton traces the evolution of the Holocaust beginning with the "euthanasia" projects of the 30's. Anyone incapable of being a productive member of society was consided, "life unworthy of life" and euthanized. Initially this was confined to the mentally challenged and the old/infirmed. Later even severely wounded German soldiers were not spared. Execution technology perfected here formed the basis for the mass executions conducted later.

Lifton interviews many physicians in this work including some former Nazi's and many Jewish doctors forced to work at Auschwitz. Here, the inner conflicts of persons trained to heal but actively involved in killing reached its apex. Reactions varied from the cold, view of inmates as "laboratory rats" and nothing more by Josef Mengele, to the tortured acceptance of the necessity of doing his duty of Eduard Wirths. Coping mechanisms included sending others to do the "dirty work" when possible, excessive use of alcohol, and in some cases, suicide. Still, the work went on, despite any internal contradictions.

This is the first work I have seen that explained the Nazi philosophy and its impact on the Holocaust. Because it was the stated goal of National Socialism to cleanse German society of all its ills, the participation of healers was essential. The Nazi's never wavered in this twisted belief. Would the Holocaust have occurred without the doctor's participation? Undoubtedly, yes! However doe's this excuse their participation? You the reader must decide. A great read. Five stars!!

Why did we go to war........against the Nazis? 5 out of 5 stars.
7 of 7 people found this review helpful.

A previous reviewer who slammed this book for being "conspiracy-laden" stated that there were better books available on Nazi secret weaponry. He doesn't name the book titles for us. He can't, because none exist. IMO,Henry Stevens has done enough research to prove his general case, and also does a good job in showing how the Freedom of Information Act is nothing less than a cynical manipulation to prolong cover-ups, delay transparency, and forestall accountability. My main criticism of the book would be that each chapter deserves a separate book in its own right. I can only assume that the author wanted to cram as much information into a 330 page paperback as he possibly could do. Some of the claims are perhaps too speculative in nature for most readers to accept, for example, that the nuclear bombs dropped on Japan originally belonged to the Nazis and were captured from them. Nevertheless, I suspect that a great deal of the book's content will resonate those who are skeptical of officialdom. The obvious question that arises is..why did we go to war in the first place? Was it really motivated by idealism, or was it to get our hands on the Nazi scientists and their technology?

Misses the real problem and solution 3 out of 5 stars.
4 of 6 people found this review helpful.

The only, effective way to reject socialism is by attacking it's fundamental philosophical ideas. That collectivism is good and the individual must be sacrificed for the "good of the people". Attacking a philosophy such as communism or socialism, because it is not "practical" is a contradiction and undercuts any argument against such a corrupt philosophy. These ideas are not good in theory but bad in practice. They are evil in theory and therefore evil in practice.

I would like to also recommend Ayn Rand's, "The Virtue of Selfishness". This is THE work to understand Man's Individual Rights based on His Rational Nature. It is from these fundamental Truths that the ONLY proper function of a legitimate government is derived - The protection of Individual Rights.

Brilliant prima facie case against socialism 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 3 people found this review helpful.

Considering it my duty as an economics major, I took it upon myself to read this book, with little expectations as to its brilliance, and was completely swept away. Not only is Hayek extremely eloquent in articulating the case for free trade, he supports his arguments with facts (e.g. what was then going on in Nazi Germany) and with theory (e.g. why without even the historical evidence that we do have we must conclude that a centralized system cannot equally favor everyone).

Since it is my tendency to look at the 1 star reviews before making a 5 star one, I recognize that some people don't like Hayek because he doesn't recognize the great things about socialized medicine (like how a guy in Canada signed up for a CAT scan under his dog's name because animals are not covered under their highly efficient centralized health care...true story by the way) or the kind thoughts of socialist thinkers (please don't make me choose my selection of Marx quotes). But what Hayek does is present a prima facie case against socialism; before anyone can advocate socialism, they MUST address Hayek's arguments.

This is why I think before any socialist and libertarian face each other in a squabble, both must have read The Road to Serfdom so that they can hit on the applicable issues instead of babbling on about poverty statistics. Are you a socialist and disagree with Hayek? Fine, but read the book so that you know where your opponents stand. I really think that socialists think lovers of capitalism are greedy and have no ethics. But if you read our spokesman Hayek, you'll see why we think that the free market is actually BETTER for society.

Let's change the scope of the argument. Socialists should stop arguing about how some people are poor...yes, some people are poor...and demonstrate how a centralized system can make people BETTER than they would be under the free market system. How planning the systems of production would be more efficient and prosperous than under the system of competition. How giving all our freedoms to one entity would guarantee them for all. If you can effectively address these issues and the many more that Hayek brings up, we will soon see a blessed change in the current headache of debates on socialism.

Editorial Review:

Originally published in 1944, this work has profoundly influenced many world leaders with its persuasive warning against a dictatorial government--which suppresses individual freedoms and thought. 7 cassettes.
