Lazy Person's Guide to Better Nutrition 4 out of 5 stars.
9 of 10 people found this review helpful.

Although this book has a little bit of a negative title it covers a lot of ground in a format that easy to read and understand. I have read many books on nutrition and this one sums up all that I've read and adds more. Dr. Tessler goes into what healthy, long living cultures eat and compares it to the current American diet. He talks about how the acidic condition of our body is conducive to disease and how to remedy it. Drinking water, vitamins, exercise. It's all here.

Try it! It could work miracles for you. 5 out of 5 stars.
6 of 7 people found this review helpful.

This book (and Judy's system) have gotten a lot of slams, for what I think is no good reason. Most people who slam it don't seem to really understand the theory she is proposing. It doesn't make you protein-deficient. And the all-fruit days are only at the beginning. (We have way too much protein in our diets anyway, thanks to the meat and dairy associations.) She is frequently misquoted and maligned because she is not a scientist. I have used this diet and, when it is followed, it works miracles. It isn't for eveyone, especially people with sensitive stomaches. But if you can tolerate high-acid fruits, like pineapple, it is a godsend! (And pineapple is very good for you, by the way, dieting or not.) Of course there are days when you're not crazy about what you're eating! It's a diet, guys! But the fact that you can usually eat however much you want to is a great savior, I think. Also, the way you lose a lot of weight at the beginning is a great motivator. It's basically really healthy. Of course, it's hard to keep up the system after you've lost the weight--this is a challenge with any diet. This one really works if you follow the guidelines.

Antioxidant Power: 366 Delicious Recipes for Great Health & 4 out of 5 stars.

My husband and I have really enjoyed the diversity and creativity of these recipes! It helped us put some "zing" into our old favorites and experiment with new and different vegetable dishes. At our age, he's almost 50 and I'm 40, we want and need the maximum benefit from our workouts and meals. This book certainly helped with the "eats" portion of that equation. Here's to healthy living and long, productive lives! Hasta, Brian and Davelyn Rodgers Arizona

A clolour atlas of meat inspection 5 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

Although this book has been out of print for about 10 years, it is still, in my opinion, one of the best texts about the subject ever produced. The authors took hundreds of photographs of pathological lesions and conditions in the main red meat species, including horses, which are not generally classed as meat animals in this country (UK). Alongside the photographs are explanations of the conditions and the judgement of the authors of fitness of the meat for human consumption.
For anyone involved in the production of meat for human consumption - Vets, meat inspectors - this book is a must, if you can get your hands on a copy!

Editorial Review:

This book provides a unique record of thousands of anti- and post- mortem examinations, covering a period of over 25 years. A Color Atlas of Meat Inspection is a practical guide filled with more than 850 full color photographs. This fascinating work focuses on the pathological conditions which are most likely to in be found the course of day-to-day meat inspection. The photos have captions which identify the species, the body parts or viscera involved, and the diagnosis of the pathology. Also provided are concise descriptions of the relevant pathological changes found in the specimens. This atlas is essential reading for meat inspectors, veterinary surgeons, enviornmental health officers, butchers, and all those involved in the meat processing industry. It will also prove valuable to anyone involved with animal pathology.

The best vitamin and mineral information book 5 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

I have been involved with health topics for almost 30 years, and this book is the most comprehensive one that I have seen on vitamins and minerals. The author discusses dozens of vitamins and minerals along with the disease symptoms of too little or too much of a vitamin or mineral. For example, the easiest vitamin to overdose on is Vitamin D, and yet we must have it to maintain strong bones. Patricia tells the overdose limit in her book for this vitamin as well as others. Since many people do not eat right, they can easily become vitamin deficient in some areas, especially as a person gets older and food is not digested as well. The author tells how to recognize vitamin and mineral deficiencies and what to do about it. You'll be glad you bought this book!
