Ugh, not again, Feehan 1 out of 5 stars.
3 of 4 people found this review helpful.

I hate this - some Dark books take my breath away, and some... well, they just make me want to yack.

As of now, only two have accomplished such a feat; 'Dark Gold' was atrocious, and I had to put it down within five chapters else risking to lose my Beaner's short Teddy Bear.

'Dark Symphony' was the same way, unfortunately. Byron annoyed me in 'Dark Desire' (go Jacques, you sexy beast) and he did nothing for me now. Antoinetta made my back teeth grind.

I don't know, maybe it's because Byron and Aidan are blonde. Then again, so was Julian and I loved his story. But he had Desari, whom I thoroughly enjoyed.

Definitely must be the blonde factor. I like my protagonist men brunette.

Editorial Review:

Byron is a vampire killer, himself as old as time. Then came the haunting music, and the intoxicating scent of female flesh. Antonietta is an ageless beauty, arousing men's darkest desires. Her newest prey is her greatest obsession. Byron and Antonietta are perfect for each other. But who is the hunter - and who is the hunted?

I've read everything Christine Feehan has written. I love all her stuff. I'm so excited when a new book comes out!

I absolutely loved this one! 4 out of 5 stars.

For anyone who has read any of Christine Feehan's Dark Series books this book is sort of like a recap on all of the previous books she's written by re-introducing the characters during a Christmas celebration in the Carpathian Mountains. It also hints at future plots for her other books that haven't come out yet. I would really recommend that you read the other books before this one to understand the full effect of the story line but you should be able to make it through if you want to read just this one.

a fan 4 out of 5 stars.

I am a fan of Christine Feehan but had not read anything by Liu. This was a good read to get me excited about reading her work. I am now on my third book by her.

Always great 5 out of 5 stars.

Feehan is great, as always.
The Liu piece is also great and you should know that it is actually the #4 story in the Dirk and Steele series.

Carpathian stories are becoming redundant 2 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

This story is much like other Carpathian stories in that the male goes beyond alpha and into a unhealthy controlling mode. Destiny has power of her own but Nicolae seems unwilling to stand back and allow her to use it without his input. While she is stronger than some other Dark Series women, she still is forced to submit part of independence to her "lifemate" in a way that I, as a woman, find irritating at best.

Another characteristic of the Carpathian novels is the endless passages of narrative. Very little of it seems to be vital to the storytelling and all of it makes me yawn. I do recommend the series to insomniacs, however. It works wonders for putting me to sleep.

I think the most frustrating thing about Feehan's "Dark" books to me is that I've read her other two series, the Drake Sisters and the Ghostwalkers, and both of those feature strong women and strong men who balance each other, as well as intense action, strong narrative and engaging dialog. Where those series keep the reader turning pages, this entire series is ultimately forgetable and repetitive.

I'd recommend skipping not only Dark Destiny, but the Carpathian series as a whole and reading either the Drakes or the Ghostwalkers instead.

Editorial Review:

A New York Times Bestseller

Her childhood had been a nightmare of violence and pain until she heard his voice calling out to her. Golden and seductive. The voice of an angel. He had shown her how to survive, taught her to use her unique gifts, trained her in the ancient art of hunting the vampire. Yet he could not bend her to his will, no matter how great his power.

Burdened with excessive inner monologue 2 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I really wanted to like this book. The storyline was interesting and the character development was fine. I didn't even have a problem with the first person narrative as some readers do. The problem I do have is the rambling inner monologue that is simply never ending! I am halfway through the book and am now so frustrated by the monologue that I just can't bring myself to finish reading it.

Also, the author's use of analogies and similies is all over the map and mostly nonsensical. I spent so much time attempting to figure out the point she was trying to make. After a while I realized that my mind started wandering while I was reading the endless monologues so I figured there was no point in reading any further.

Sadly, this book had promise but I will not be coming back for seconds.

Editorial Review:

A new direction for an already successful fantasy author.

They took her clothes and sneakers. They dressed her in a long red gown. And they shackled her to the wall of an abandoned mansion-within easy reach of a figure stirring in the moonlight.

She knows that it is a vampire.

She knows that she's to be his dinner, and that when he is finished with her, she will be dead. Yet, when light breaks, she finds that he has not attempted to harm her. And now it is he who needs her to help him survive the day...

Its a sneak peek. 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

Those of you unfamiliar with Karen Marie Moning may be disappointed and pout when you realize that this book is a bit of a novella. Personally, I am always sad when her books end because I have to wait for the next one. I don't feel that this book is a disappointment at all. It is a gentle transition into the Fae series and without this little installment, how will you understand where the Seelie Queen is being held prisoner??? Read it and consider it a sneak peek or a bridge between those delicious McKeltars in Scotland and Mac in Ireland.

Into the Dreaming 5 out of 5 stars.

This is a great story by Ms. Moning. It gives me hope that there will be more books in the Highlander series!

It wasn't all just a dream 5 out of 5 stars.

Into the Dreaming is a small(its a bit surprising) novel about a highlander named Aedan MacKinnon who was decieved by the dark Unseelie king. Aedan spends five hundred years in the land of shadow and ice, there he was trained by the Unseelie king to be Vengence. Part of the agreement they had was that the MacKinnons would be safe and that Aedan after his sentence is served could go back to Dun Haakon.

Jane Sillee is completely in love with Aedan, her mysterious sexy highlander from her dreams. She recieves a brilliantly woven tapestry sporting the spitting image of Aedan. She is sent back in time to save him and break the spell the Unseelie king has on him.
Can she make Aedan remember her and who he is?

This book was an extremely fast read, but enjoyable none the less. This is the second time I have read it(I like to re-read things)and it has been awhile since the first time. You cant help but feel for Aedan, he truly is a lovable character.

Continuing from When Darkness Comes, Shay is returned to Evor, her troll `owner', once the witches are dead. It is a curse that has attached her to Evor ~ should one perish, so will the other. On the auction block, feeling degraded and used, one voice calls out a large sum, `buying' her on the spot. Viper.

It has been months since they've seen each other, but Viper was never able to get Shay out of his mind. He wants more than `ownership' of her. He wants it all. The problem is convincing her that he isn't as terrible a vampire than she seems to believe he is, for it was vampires that had long ago murdered her father.

Shay has had to grow up hiding her true self, constantly moving from place to place. She's seen the hardships her mother had gone through and wants none of it. She never had any friends, never anyone close to her that could later backstab her if given the opportunity.

As the last of the Shalotts, she knows why vampires want her blood, and she refuses to give it. She doesn't understand why Viper `bought' her from Evor. What could he possibly want with her? Someone to do his every bidding? He can find any number of women who would do so willingly. Why her?

Viper is determined to show her that he wants her with him willingly ~ and not as a slave.

After winning Shay, a fight rings out with a wizard, one determined to bring the Shalott to his master, the feel of evil in the room. While leaving the auction house, that same feeling is following them, ever determined to get its hands on Shay. But Viper is determined as well - he won't let her go without a fight.

While at his private retreat, they are attacked by a Lu. Escaping to Dante and Abby's, they hide. And while hiding, Viper brings in a witch, wanting the curse that binds Shay and Evor together broken. Feeling an attack coming, they escape only to become surrounded by Styx and his Ravens, vampires; an old/ex friend of Viper's. Shay escapes but Viper is captured. Tortured, he is told to use the amulet that would bring Shay to his side. He refuses, stating that he will do anything and everything to keep his future mate safe.

But Shay is a warrior and won't just sit idly while Viper's life hangs in the balance. With the help of Levet, her small gargoyle friend, she finds where Viper is being held and rescues him, holding up to her end of the bargain and offering her blood to save him.

Knowing the danger they face will never end, Viper defeats the evil plaguing Shay, making for a perfect beginning of the end of the novel.

This reader is sooooo enjoying this series, and I pray it'll be around for a long time. The author has a way of making the world of vampires feel well and truly normal, like everyday life. Her style of writing sucks the reader right into the story, painting every scene as clearly as if the reader is right along with the characters. There is a constant flow, and that constant flow had me still thinking of what's going on in the story well after I put the book down for the night.

Right from the beginning, I felt that Shay and Viper were perfect for each other; the banter between the two, how they frustrate each other, how they can get under each other's skin. It was perfect ~ funny/witty parts, sad parts, explanations that have you understanding the characters and why they are the way they are.

Actions scenes well battled, scenes of thoughts, feelings and planning well spaced and acted out beautifully, love scenes that make you hot under the collar, a perfect ending all blended with characters you love to love and characters you love to hate make this one hell of a good book! I can't wait to get my hands on Darkness Everlasting!

Editorial Review:

First Novel 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

MaryJanice Davidson is one of my fav authors. This was the first one I ever read. I actually saw this at a walmart & and bought it. This was a really funny book and I LOVED Sinclair. Lol.
I reread this novel alot until the next one came out.

Betsy is a funny childish character. She doesn't act--or talk like 30 years old woman. Her love is shoes is funny, and I feel the same way about mine.

Queen Betsy Rules 4 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

This is book two in the series of Undead/Queen Betsy. I loved book one and thought that this one was a bit less impressive than it. Background: Betsy was killed and turned into a vampire without even knowing what hit her. Since then she has been fulfilling the prophecies of the Book of The Dead (vampire bible), which is what makes her the queen. In book two she tries to hold down a job (shoe department at Macy's), find the killer of vampires, relocated into a mansion her best friend bought, and is trying with all of her might not to sleep with Sinclair (the vampire king). You'll find it fun and a stepping-stone for book three.

Editorial Review:

Being royally undead isn't all it's cracked up to be--there are still bills to be paid. Luckily, new Queen of the Vampires Betsy Taylor lands her dream job selling designer shoes at Macy's.

But when a string of vampire murders hits St. Paul, Betsy must enlist the help of the one vamp who makes her blood boil: the oh-so-sexy Sinclair. Now, she's really treading on dangerous ground--high heels and all.

Love vampire stories? 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

Laurell Hamilton has written a wonderful string of books featuring an entire world of preternatural beings and "Guilty Pleasures" is the first in the seemingly endless (we hope) series. Follow fearless vampire executioner and animator - she raises the dead, folks! - necromancer Anita Blake through her many exploits in a dark urban fantasy in the world of vampires, were-beings, faeries, zombies and voodoo priests. Fascinating, well written and fun reads. Will Anita give it up for the handsome vampire Jean Claude, the Master of the City or Richard, mild mannered school teacher and werewolf? Stay tuned. Not for children.

Great Gift! 5 out of 5 stars.

I purchased this set as a gift since I have already read the books. Great presentation. I really enjoy this author. She is very vivid and her characters come to life. There has been some negativity about her in terms of sexual content, but if you really understand her story, you will know that it has a place in the plot.

Another fun addition to the Betsy books 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

MaryJanice Davidson has a uniquely humorous voice, which makes her the only romance author out there from whom I will eagerly purchase a book. The "Queen Betsy" series is one of my favorites in one of my favorite genres - the "silly vampire" books.

In this, the 5th outing for the unlikely vampire queen, Betsy (from Minneapolis), we find Betsy a few days from her 31st birthday, which will also be one year from the day she was killed by being hit by an Aztek (what a plebian way to go!) and awoke as a vampire - horrified to find that The Ant (as she calls her stepmother) had dressed her for her funeral in absolutely dreadful shoes.

Betsy is planning for her non-existent Surprise Birthday Party (which she doesn't want), as well as the wedding to her Vampire King Eric Sinclair, which is scheduled for three months away. Additionally, some hot-shot vampire big-wigs from Europe are showing up. To complicate matters, Sophie (a vampire friend of Betsy's) wishes to "turn" her boyfriend Liam, which leaves Betsy rather discombobulated. Until Betsy learns her best friend, Jessica, has myeloma, whereupon she finds herself pondering the same course of action for her friend. That is, of course, if she changes her mind about never drinking blood again. Then, when Sophie and Liam run up against the big shot European vampires - that's when things really hit the fan, because one of the European contingent is the vampire who killed Sophie and turned her into a vampire and she is out for blood. What's a benevolent vampire queen to do?

Written with an always wry and witty outlook on life, the Betsy books are truly a terrific way to relax and enjoy a nice evening with a cup of tea. Do yourself a favor, pick up a couple and have a few laughs with Betsy!

Editorial Review:

This New York Times bestselling author's Undead series is more popular than ever!

With her birthday coming up, Betsy isn't in the best frame of mind to face the powerful European vampires who have finally come to pay their respects. Playing politics is not her strong suit, especially when she finds out her best friend Jessica may have a life-threatening illness. Sure Betsy can save her life by taking it-isn't that what friends are for?-but the choice isn't in her hands.

With her fiancé Eric dodging all the wedding plans, Betsy's plate is full-and not with birthday cake. But who has time to pout? Not even a reluctant vampire queen, who is taking it one high-heeled step at a time in MaryJanice Davidson's creative, sophisticated, sexy, and wonderfully witty series.
