A lot of good info but... 4 out of 5 stars.

Erik Lawrence has a lot of good information in this book, and for many it does give a great overview of a lot of material. That being said, some of the techniques shown are not current. This is in no way to diminish Mr. Lawerence's military background, but some habits that one learns in the military have been proven outdated by those at say, Gunsite, Thunder Ranch, Sig academy and so on. For example, using just the forefinger and thumb to release the slide, has been essentially dropped from many a schools curricula in favor of a "saddle grip" that is with the thumb facing rearward and four fingers grasping the slide, using two major muscle groups are more efficient than using two fingers to grasp the slide. Secondly shooting over cover is generally a bad idea, as it highlights the one thing that you don't want shot, your head! Again, these could be stylistic differences, but noting the recent publication date of the text, these things have already been covered and updated prior to publishing. Positional shooting, reloads, and malfunctions are covered very well. Again a good book, but not the instant classic as some are claiming it is. Also a trip to gunsite can never be replaced by a book.

I have own a couple of crochet books for beginners and this one is the best one I've had. It was real clear and simple. I think if I can do it, everybody can do it too. This book is highly recommended. Enjoy.

I'm 27 and very pleased with this wonderful crochet book from KLUTZ. The instructions are very easy and the projects are cute and perfect for any beginner. I especially love the hat. Everyone in my family wants one and I'm busy working on it!:) I was so pleased with this book that I ordered the knitting book from KLUTZ as well. I enjoyed the projects in this book a little more and the yarn that comes with this book is very beautiful. After you have done all the projects in this book you will feel ready for more challenging projects! Get ready to get HOOKED!

I first read this book years ago, but that copy got lost and I was overjoyed to find it again. My siblings and I all wanted it when Dad gave away his library.

Mr Capstick is a wonderfully descriptive writer! Each one of the big eight African game animals has a chapter; and each is the very worst way to die. Capstick does not skimp on the gory details, but he is entertaining and real. He spent many years in the Africian bush and obviously knows each of these animals very, very well.

I worked with a gentleman who met Capstick while in Africia and he reported that the man in the book is the same man in real life. If you want a different view of Africa from the Disneyification of wildlife this is the book for you.

A Book Every Serious Bowhunter Should Have 5 out of 5 stars.

This book and the Eberhart's other book "Bowhunting Pressured Whitetails" are the two best whitetail deer bowhunting books I have read - and I have read a lot of them. Most deer hunting books discuss tactics for hunting unpressured deer (i.e. large, privately managed farms or ranches with limited access or high-fence operations) that most hunters will simply never have the chance to hunt. This book is different from other hunting books in that the Eberhart's explain their year-round system for consistently taking mature whitetail bucks from pressured areas in their home state of Michigan. I must say again that the Eberthart's bowhunting books are the best I have read. In fact, I re-read parts of their books before each hunting season.

This book, without a doubt, is the finest book on deer hunting that I have ever read. As an avid reader, I have read a pile of books on deer hunting, most of which were the same information, recycled over and over again. The techniques and strategies in these books are just not applicable to hunting in my heavily pressured home state of South Carolina.
This book is full of fresh ideas that have challenged the way I have historically approached bowhunting. I would recommend this book to anyone, bowhunters and gunhunters alike. It is the most HONEST and PRACTICAL book on hunting mature deer that you will ever read. It will help you to rethink the way you hunt and give you more opportunities at big bucks. I cannot say enough good things about this book. If you live in a state or area where there is alot of stiff hunting pressure, you have got to read this book.

In 1898 John H. Patterson arrived in East Africa with a mission to build a railway bridge over the Tsavo River. What started out as a simple engineering problem, however, soon took on almost mythical proportions as Patterson and his mostly Indian workforce were systematically hunted by two man-eating lions over the course of several weeks. During that time, 100 workers were killed, and the entire bridge-building project ground to a halt. As if the lions weren't enough, Patterson had to guard his back against his own increasingly hostile and mutinous workers as he set out to track and kill the man-eaters. This larger-than-life tale forms the basis of the entertaining film The Ghost and the Darkness, but for readers who want to know the whole--and true--story, The Man-Eaters of Tsavo comes straight from the great white-hunter's mouth.

Patterson's account of the lions' reign of terror and his own subsequent attempts to kill them is the stuff of great adventure, and his unmistakably Victorian manner of telling it only adds to the thrill. Consider this description of the aftermath of an attack by the lions: "...we at once set out to follow the brutes, Mr. Dalgairns feeling confident that he had wounded one of them, as there was a trail on the sand like that of the toes of a broken limb.... we saw in the gloom what we at first took to be a lion cub; closer inspection, however, showed it to be the remains of the unfortunate coolie, which the man-eaters had evidently abandoned at our approach. The title to this book is somewhat misleading. It is not a trapper's bible. This book covers do-it-yourself snares, homemade box traps and path guards. However, it covers these topics better than I have ever seen before. I learned more about these topics in the 1 1/2 hours it took me to read this book than I did in 4 years of online research/fooling around, etc.
The basics of snaring are explained extremely well. The illustrations are wonderful and more than adequatly explain every point. Many of his tricks and sets of snares are so clever you wonder why you never though of them.
His box trap plans are pure genius and wonderfully explained. I havent found another source for such amazing trap plans or ideas.
Basically, this book will teach you everything you need to know about snaring. The only thing it leaves out is instructions on what to use to attract and where to set(with some exceptions). He does explain some but not much, it's generally common sense (although you can never assume things like that).
IF YOU ARE GETTING INTO SNARING OR JUST WANTING TO HAVE SOME FUN, YOU NEED TO READ THIS BOOK. IT WILL GIVE YOU A PROVERBIAL "CRASH COURSE" IN SNARING

EVERYTHING you always wanted to know about Bow Hunting but were too intimidated to ask. Being a woman just picking up the sport of bow hunting at age 37 I would walk into sporting goods and archery stores and be overwhelmed by the amount of information I needed to know before I ever purchased a bow. This book helped me know what equipment I needed and what equipment was just smoke and mirrors. It also prepared me for "target panic" and explained in detail about every other facet that I could have ever thought of and even some I didn't consider. Great for anyone just picking up the sport.

This book is an o.k. read and offers some good information if you don't mind sifting through the outdated advice. (First Copyright in 1974).

This book is the worst training guide I have ever read. Suggested training techniques, such as applying burning cigars and cigarette lighters to a dogs nostril, are unnecessary, cruel, and illegal in most countries. I am a South African field trialist and have acted as field steward and learner judge, and can confidently state that if even the more reasonable of the techniques advocated in this book were applied at any Field Trial club or trial (or organized hunt) in South Africa the handler would be summarily expelled, his dogs confiscated, and he would be reported to the police. Ironically, most of the techniques suggested are sure to be counterproductive and break the dogs spirit. Pointers and setters do require a certain amount of discipline, but respond far better to positive reinforcement.


There are a number of far better training guides, which will provide you with a wide ranging yet responsive dog. Probably the best of these is a book entitled "Dog Breaking", written by a General W.N Hutchinson in 1850. Despite the title, the General advocates what later came to be termed positive reinforement and writes that "(The) brutal usage of a fine high couraged dog (by) Men who had a strong arm and a hard heart to punish - but no temper and no head to instruct (has) made my blood boil." He would probably have used a horsewhip on Paul Long.

Good Introduction to Individual and Small Team Tactics 4 out of 5 stars.

Although probably new material for most readers, this should only be a refresher for those who have taken a few tactical shooting courses and served in law enforcement or the military.

Chapters cover different obstacles such as; corners, doorways, stairs, T-intersections, 4-way intersections, etc... The ample supply of clear images and useful diagrams help explain the concepts. Suarez includes a chapter on mindset and another on nonshooting confrontations. Although many similar books cover mindset, it is rare to see a discussion of a nonshooting event.

The UberTactical uniforms and Front Sight logos were a distraction for me. The wide range to topics covered did not allow for a complete discussion on any of them and leads to confusion on who the target audience is supposed to be; homeowner, SWAT team member or Infantry soldier.

A good book that is worth your time to read so long as you are not expecting "A definitive study..."
