It was a good book about an overview of Maldives but did not focus much on the interior travel within Maldives and getting around its myriad of islands

One unbiased and comprehensive resort review source 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

The book gives detailed info on diving, dining, stay and all other points of interest as the author himself has stayed in every resort he is writing about. Especially for Maldives when choosing the resort is the focal point of the vacation planning and the resort stay is THE vacation this book is indispensable. I had to get mine from Maldives airport as it is hardly available otherwise.

Editorial Review:

The bible for Maldives holiday-makers. Adrian Neville travelled, independently, to every resort in the country. The photographs and reviews combine to give the only accurate and detailed picture of every resort. Each review includes unique 'relative price' and 'room density' figures as well as a box of key prices and contacts. This is a beautiful way to making the right choice of resort. This is the smaller 'guidebook' size format published in August 2007. It contains the full set of reviews from the original, large format publication (ISBN 9991521658) though some photographs and graphics have been dropped to fit this smaller size.

A gem from the Indian Ocean 5 out of 5 stars.
4 of 4 people found this review helpful.

This book manages to capture the extraordinary beauty of what is probably the most beautiful place on earth. The photographs are stunning (most of them are used on the postcards you'll find at the resorts!)and the accompanying narrative is informative, if brief. Although a little out of date in terms of the resorts covered and demographics supplied, I doubt you'll find a more impressive literary souvenir for your stay in the islands.

Editorial Review:

With his incomparable photographs of the Maldive Islands, Michael Friedel, one of Germany's leading photojournalists, has made the breathtaking beauty of these jewels of the Indian Ocean famous throughout the word. His aerial views of the Maldives have given a new perspective of their home to the islanders themselves. On the 10th anniversary of the Maldive independence his pictures were used in a series of postage stamps. For over twenty years Michael Friedel has been taking photograph of these tropical atolls on land, under water and from the air. This volume contains a selection of his finest work.

Editorial Review:

Despite the reputation of the Maldives as being a world-class diving destination, this is the first really comprehensive fish guide specifically aimed at these islands. More than 50 new species for the Maldives are published for the first time and, with over 1100 superb underwater photographs that include almost every fish that divers are likely to see, this book is the perfect guide to check on that mystery' fish after each dive. The book is compact, easy to use and a handy size to carry to dive locations. The introduction explains the basics of fish-science, behaviour and evolution and there are detailed drawings on fish features, shapes and colour patterns. To assist divers, an innovative concept is used to allow easy retrieval and identification of species. Small silhouettes of the families are distributed as thumbprints throughout the book and families are color coded for quick access. Whilst text for each species is brief, it describes points of interest and differences between similar species. This book portrays the fishes from this respected author's practical point of view and divers can expect to learn a great deal from this valuable reference.
