Malaysia, Singapore & Brunei 5 out of 5 stars.

This book is great. It has accurate information and makes trip planning a breeze. I have traveled all over Asia, and I use lonely planet books to plan all my trips.

A Very Good Guide Book 5 out of 5 stars.

I spent the better part of the afternoon reading this book as I'm planning on a trip to Singapore and Malaysia this week. The Lonely Planet can usually (although not always) be counted on to provide for solid information on travel destinations and this one does just that. It's pretty well written and everything is nicely laid out. I particularly enjoyed the historical overview at the beginning and the section on the national psyche. Malaysia and Singapore (I didn't read about Brunei) sound like thoroughly enjoyable and interesting places. I especially appreciated the description of KL as being something of a nightmare for pedestrians. That's the type of honesty that travelers need, and it's also what helped make the Lonely Planet famous in the first place.

Eyewitness Guide to Maylaysia and Singapore 4 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

This is an excellent product in many ways. Good text, gorgeous pictures, informative re shopping, food and cultural matters - the beautiful photos of same help a great deal. This is less useful as a primary guide book like the Lonely Planet, which has more nuts and bolts information re places to eat, stay etc., than as anexcellent adjuct. They are really good together to give a complete picture. I lived in Singapore some time ago, and have traveled extesively in Maylasia, and the iformation in the book looks to be acurate as far as I can tell.

A great book, but probably too big for just Singapore 4 out of 5 stars.

This is a great book- full of interesting information, gorgeous photos, and travel tips. We just went to Singapore and it was useful, along with the Groovy MAP 'N' GUIDE SINGAPOREand Fodor's Singapore's 25 Best, 3rd Edition (25 Best).

The only downside is the size. While small enough to carry in a bag, it's not THAT small- and the section on Singapore is relatively smallcompared to the malaysia section. Overall, while I'm happy I bought it, the other 2 books went with me around town, while this one stayed in the hotel.

Very good reccomendations and overview 5 out of 5 stars.
21 of 28 people found this review helpful.

We are planning a short trip to Singapore and I found this book to be very good at pointing out things that were a must-do and what was a waste of time. Also had very good lists of things such as indeginous foods (and what was in them), language barriers (very amusing section), things to watch out for etc. Also had a great overview on food, where to eat and what was not worth it. It was good at listing things that were a one-day trip must do and a 3-4 day trip must do.

I definately liked this book over some of the other travel books I have read. It has a very personal touch (some amusing anicdotes) and a good perspective on things.

Come along with Frommer's and discover two of Asia's most intriguing destinations. Our author has scoured every inch of this region, and she'll share her cultural insights and favorite discoveries with you. Her guide is much more complete and in-depth than its major competitor.

In Singapore, you'll find the best places to stay, from high-tech business hotels to affordable finds, plus an amazing array of dining choices. Follow our author's fantastic walking tours, which introduce you to hidden gems in each ethnic neighborhood — you'll find Hindu and Buddhist temples and Islamic mosques mixed in with modern high-rises, colonial architecture, and even a real-live rain forest still growing at the edge of the urban area.

In Malaysia, we'll take you beyond bustling Kuala Lumpur to discover beach resorts; the colonial architecture and amazing dining scene in Penang; idyllic islands; traditional villages; and great opportunities to shop for Malaysian handcrafts. We'll even visit Borneo, where rivers meander through dense tropical rain forests, beaches stretch for miles, and caves snake on for miles. In the many national parks that protect this spectacular jungle, you'll meet tiny deer, tinier owls, monkeys, and the increasingly rare orangutan. Experience all the adventure with Frommer's in hand, knowing you can rely on us for accurate information, practical advice, and useful maps.

Perfect Book! 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

Recently went to Singapore and was so happy to have this book. The suggestions were very good and the directions on what public transportation to use were spot on. The book is small enough that you can carry it with you in a purse/backpack. The only thing missing (which I'm sure will be added to future publications) was mention of the new Singapore Flyer, the world's largest observation wheel which was definitely worth experiencing.

Editorial Review:

The Rough Guide to Malaysia, Singapore & Brunei is the definitive guide to these three fascinating Southeast Asian countries. There’s detailed coverage of Malaysia’s superb natural attractions, including Taman Negara – the Peninsula’s main national park, with its four gateways – and, in Sabah and Sarawak, Mount Kinabalu and the limestone pinnacles at Mulu. Great beaches and islands also get full attention, including the islands of Langkawi, the Perhentians and the dive mecca of Sipidan. There’s plenty on the indigenous tribes of Borneo too, including how to make upriver trips to traditional longhouses. The book also provides the lowdown on Singapore’s burgeoning entertainment scene – from alternative gigs to cutting-edge theatre – and uncovers the secret charms of secluded Brunei. All the background you need to get the best out of these multicultural nations is here, including a food vocabulary to help you order the best Malay, Chinese and Indian fare, and insights into local etiquette.

Singapore at your leisure 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

Some friends and I went to the 2007 Ironman 70.3 in Singapore. We booked our hotel on-line and found ourselves lodged far outside of the center of the city. Luckily I had this map. Singapore is an easy city to get around by the LRT (Light Rail Transit) which is clearly marked on the map. We also had to navigate our bicycles to the transition area, an impossible feat without a good map. It is easy to read and highlights all of the major landmarks, malls and hotels. The map allowed us to understand the course better and get in some interesting sight seeing by bike and LRT too.

Editorial Review:

Folded paper map representing Singapore Island scaled at 1:55,000 (1 " to 9/10 mile) with an inset of Sentosa island and a Metrorail Transit Map. Reverse shows Singapore city with a detailed inset of the Central District. Includes index of streets and places of interest. Overview of southern Malaysia.
