I visited Aruba last year but had no idea such cultural and ethnic diversity exsited on the island! The main reason I enjoyed the book was the wonderful photos. In fact more than half the book was filled with colorful images of the Carnival!
Maybe I'll go back next year... =)
Editorial Review:
Victoria Razak, Ph.D is a cultural anthropologist. This book comes from her doctoral research on music, festival, and identity on Aruba, which also presents the first comprehensive study of the Island's carnival. 'Carnival in Aruba' describes the origins and history of the festival and the principle characters, masquerade groups, and carnival music.
