Not the best maps- One large map would of been nice. Information on buses to take to locations inaccurate. Could of had more sights listed to see.

The book is published in England so its difficult to convert in my head from the metric system to the US system.
The atlas is separated onto many pages, making it difficult to figure out what goes with what.
Overall not a good choice if you need US measurements and if you need a good atlas.

The book was published in 2001 and republished in 2006 manking you think it was a new book. Amazon does not tell you this. I found it out after I bought the book. Basically to old to use.

the perfect tourguide handbook for Barbados. Almost everything mentioned in it was current, about 90%. Lots of great useful maps, spot on recommendations for tourist sites, restaurants, hotels, etc. Helped us get organized and get the most out of our 4 day trip to Barbados. Top 10 List was fun and helpful, too.

Duncan Stuart and his mother discovered an old chest before she died containing letters and photographs of an, until then, unknown ancestry.The search for that lost history takes him to the West Indies and Barbados. A world of wild living opens up before him and Duncan leaps in with the vigor of a lost youth which yearned to be misspent. He walks the path of discovery with its many twists and turns, leading to a series of extraordinary events that he records in words, sketches and poetry. A few signposts lead nowhere, but others along the way guide him to several diverse characters, some wonderful, others strange or exotic and one night he faces a terrible malevolence. Peculiar things start to happen - funny, sad, frightening things - and Duncan begins to doubt what is real and what is...well, perhaps of a different world. His life is touched by people who have their own tales to tell but the growing conviction that he already knows what their stories are, begins to worry him, especially as some are murderers. I have always found Insight Guides to provide an excellent 'taste' of the peoples, cuisine, history, folklore, customs, music and arts and other aspects of a country's culture. The Barbados book is no exception. While it does list places to see, hotels, restaurant recommendations, etc. like other guidebooks, 90% of this book is filled with insightful writing and wonderful photography from a variety of contributors both Bajan and visitors to Barbados.

As a Bajan I was pleased when I read this book it goes beyond the typical tourist representation of the island and tastefully and tactfully covers many of the uniques cultural mores and forces that have shaped our island. It gives a brief and acuurate history of the island concerning race relations, politics and culture and even quite accurately explains why Bajans are percieved as smug! : ) Hopefully on reading this book the tourist more informed will be able to enjoy the island many flavors and facets more deeply.

We bought this book on the recommendation of our friends who traveled to Barbados with a previous edition. However, when we compared it with the book our friends had, we found it was quite different and not nearly as detailed and comprehensive. Searching on Amazon, we found that the author of the previous edition, Harry S. Pariser, had a new guide Explore Barbados. We bought that book and really found it useful. This is not a bad book, but we don't understand why it is called a "new edition!"

This book covered everything, it was great I bought it before I visited the place, with this book in hand you can experience the TRUE Barbados. It gives information about all you need to know, how to get arround, practical information, where to stay and so on. This was a complete resource for this one-of-a-kind destination, Well I had the best times going there!
