Sisterhood 4 out of 5 stars.

These are great books on friendship and girls. It is interesting that if these girls stay together they will be very close for 20 years. Great books. Good reading.

Jam-Packed With Action and Romance 4 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

Do you have a best friend? Do you have four? Have you known them since you were born? Most likely not. But Lena, Carmen, Bridget and Tibby have that going for them. Their mothers were in the same pregnancy class, and they were all born within two weeks of each other. Virtually, their friends were made for them. Even as their mothers grew apart, the four girls remained inseparable. Faced with the prospect of their first summer apart, they were a bit more nervous than they should have been. They had never been away from each other for two months before! Bridget was going to a soccer camp in Mexico, Lena to her grandparents in Greece, and Carmen was going to visit her father in South Carolina. Poor Tibby was staying home to work at Wallmann's. Coincidentally, a week or so before their trips, they find a pair of jeans that manages to fit all four of their very different body types. They feel it is a good omen, and become slightly less nervous. They plan to send the Pants to each girl for a week, and are dubbed the Traveling Pants. Many things happen that summer, like finding love, and meeting new friends. Will this last? Read The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants to see what happens.

The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants is a book jam-packed with all sorts of action, romance, and some sad parts, too. With four different stories happening at the same time, there's never a slow part! The author, Ann Brashares, does a great job of describing her characters, and gives a real insight into some of the problems the girls face. Another interesting thing about this, and all three sequels, is that it tackles a lot of real-world problems, which makes it more serious and less sappy fiction for pre-teens. You should really try this book; it makes for a great, relatively easy read, plus you have three other equally magnificent books to read next!

Editorial Review:

Carmen got the jeans at a thrift shop. They didn’t look all that great; they were worn, dirty, and speckled with bleach. On the night before she and her friends part for the summer, Carmen decides to toss them. But Tibby says they’re great. She’d love to have them. Lena and Bridget also think they’re fabulous. Lena decides they should all try them on. Whoever they fit best will get them. Nobody knows why, but the pants fit everyone perfectly. Even Carmen (who never thinks she looks good in anything), thinks she looks good in the pants. Over a few bags of cheese puffs they decide to form a sisterhood, and take the vow of The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants . . . the next morning, they say good-bye. And now the journey of the pants–and the most memorable summer of their lives–begins.

tells you everything for your trip to england 4 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

I have been considering taking a trip to london, so i bought this book for information on england and london included. it is a very through book and loaded with information on where to stay and things to see when there.

Most Comprehensive England Guide 4 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

It's probably too much to ask any one book to cover all of England in detail. But Frommer's has packed this 800-page monster with all the information they could in an attempt to do just that. Did they succeed? Mostly. For starters, they offer over 20 "Best of" lists that help you zero in on the finest the country has to offer in all sorts of categories ranging from museums to pubs and everything in between. Basic travel information is offered for those completely new to the country to help you start off on the right track. There's even a short offering to help you learn a bit about art and architecture so that you can better appreciate what you will see on your visit. And, of course, there are four suggested itineraries for complete trips. Finally, the remaining 700 pages detailed information on the various geographic areas of England.

Without diminishing the rest of the book, I found the "Best of" lists and the itineraries a great starting point because it helped me zoom in on the part of England that I would most want to visit. From there, I started worrying about the specifics of what I would do there and that's when the rest of the book started to come in handy. But I also purchased The Unofficial Guide to England (Unofficial Guides) and found that I often went back and forth between the two. For information on the Cotswolds, Lake District, and some other aspects of the trip, I found Frommer's to be the most helpful. At the same time, when it came to reviewing the sight-seeing attractions in London I preferred the content and format that the Unofficial Guide used. It's not that Frommer's didn't cover it at all, or that the coverage was poor. But comparing the two, I definitely found the Unofficial Guide easier to use for touring London. Leaving London aside, Frommer's has certainly put together the most comprehensive guide you will find on England. It has every city you could possibly be interested in as well covering the Lake District, the Cotswolds, and other rustic areas of interest to tourists.

In summary, I found the Frommer's Guide to be highly useful and I certainly recommend it to anyone planning a trip to England. I also believe that no one book will have everything when covering a place as diverse as England, so don't limit yourself to just one book.

Editorial Review:

The author who unforgettably captured the experience of starting a new life in Tuscany in bestselling travel memoirs expands her horizons to immerse herself—and her readers—in the sights, aromas, and treasures of twelve new special places.

A Year in the World is vintage Frances Mayes—a celebration of the allure of travel, of serendipitous pleasures found in unlikely locales, of memory woven into the present, and of a joyous sense of quest. An ideal travel companion, Frances Mayes brings to the page the curiosity of an intrepid explorer, remarkable insights into the wonder of the everyday, and a compelling narrative style that entertains as it informs.

With her beloved Tuscany as a home base, Mayes travels to Spain, Portugal, France, the British Isles, and to the Mediterranean world of Turkey, Greece, the South of Italy, and North Africa. In Andalucía, she relishes the intersection of cultures. She cooks in Portugal, gathers ideas in the gardens of England and Scotland, takes a literary pilgrimage to Burgundy, discovers an ideal place to live in Mantova, and explores the essential Moroccan city of Fez. She rents houses among ordinary residents, shops at neighborhood markets, wanders the back streets, and everywhere contemplates the concept of home. While in Greece, she follows the classic Homeric voyage across the Aegean, lives in a bougainvillea-draped stone house in Crete, and then drives deep into the Mani. In Turkey with friends, she sails the ancient coast, hiking to archaeological sites and snorkeling over sunken Byzantine towns. Weaving together personal perceptions and informed commentary on art, architecture, history, landscape, and social and culinary traditions of each area, Mayes brings the immediacy of life in her temporary homes to the reader. An illuminating and passionate book that will be savored by all who loved Under the Tuscan Sun, A Year in the World is travel writing at its peak.

not the best guide to geece 3 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

i used to only use Lonely Planet for my travels and loved it. this guide was very dissappointing. the athens info was ok, but with the islands we ended up going to it had very little info on them. even on santorini we saw tons of stuff there that was not in the book, and there were no tips on how to get resonably priced villas, which we did on our own anyways. the places we ended up staying were not in the book. the only thing we ended up using it for was fact-checking.
i would recommend 770 greek islands, the other book we had with much more info on everything.

Perfect for a cruise 5 out of 5 stars.
7 of 7 people found this review helpful.

This book was the perfect companion for our cruise of the Mediterranean. It had a map of all the major towns of each greek island (I looked at almost every other guide for the Greek Islands and this was the only one that had that). We wanted to explore the islands on our own instead of taking a shore excursion so this was exactly what we were looking for. The maps were detailed enough that we could get around without any problems. It also included Athens which was a huge bonus. It had sections on history and the main sights of each place.

Two possible downsides to the book. 1. The information on lodging was pretty skimpy and the book is definitely geared more towards backpackers (it has information on camp sites which might be useful if you are a backpacker). 2. There really is no section on food so if you depend on your guidebooks to point you in the right direction for this, you're out of luck.

If I was doing my own tour of the Greek Islands, this book would have gotten a 3 or 4 star rating given what it lacked in lodging and food. I would have had to buy another book like Frommer's or Fodor's for the information it was missing. For a cruise, this was exactly what I was looking for.

Editorial Review:

Now in its 18th edition, this annual favourite is bigger and better than ever. Loved for its distinctive style and honest tell-it-how-it-is commentary; relied on for its comprehensive coverage of all the islands and how best to travel to and between them; and trusted for the accuracy of its material – Greek Island Hopping is the ‘island hopper’s bible’ that readers keep coming back to again and again.

· Covers all the islands as well as Athens and all mainland ports.
· Island Ratings, colour 3D-view sightseeing maps, 100 colour photographs
· Regular online updates available at www.greekislandhopping.com

This is the only guide that describes all known ferries, hydrofoils and tour boats, with over 230 route maps. It shows the location of over 1800 places to stay and provides street maps for most of the smaller islands.

Nice pictures, but not enough information 3 out of 5 stars.
9 of 10 people found this review helpful.

I usually use Lonely Planet and Green Guide (Guide Vert) but I read a lot of negative reviews about LP, so I gave Eyewitness a try. The photos and diagrams were fantastic - they really helped me make some choices about what to see compared to LP. And I particularly appreciated the diagrams of how many of the ancient sites such as Corinth, Delphi, and Olympia used to look, because you need some help when you see these ruins. Neither LP or Green Guide had these consistently.

My main problem was that it didn't have a lot of useful information, or if it did it was hard to find. The book's organization isn't too good - for a given site or city it has information about the city in terms of tourism or practical all over the place. Green Guide has much better practical maps, which are in color and cover a larger geographic area. Eyewitness is great when you get to the site you want to see, but it is not so useful to find the sites.

Also, compared to LP and Green Guide it has a lot less historical and explanatory information. And in terms of total number of places covered, I have the impression that Eyewitness has less than others. There's a price for nice, glossy photos.

Finally, not that it's critical, but my binding broke within a day, though the book cover mostly kept the book together.

I think I will only buy Eyewitness again in special circumstances.

Title covers it all 4 out of 5 stars.
20 of 20 people found this review helpful.

Europe for Dummies is a perfect book for a first or second time traveler to Europe. In March I went on a trip to four countries in Europe and took three different travel guides with me. Europe for Dummies was used much more than the other two that I had brought, and with justified reasons. A previous reviewer said it was too vague, and although I agree with them in some aspects, Europe for Dummies saved us more time and even money in some cases than I ever expected any of the books to. The descriptions are short and full of information, which is what I want when I am traveling. Detailed maps and directions also hellp make Europe for Dummies a great travel guide. Whether or not you would be buying this book to take with you, or to read it before you go on a trip to Europe, Europe for Dummies is a great source of information to prepare and inform you for the many awesome and surreal sights Europe has to offer. Definitely recomended.

Awesome!! Worth every penny. 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

I am going to Greece later this year, and I bought this to start getting an idea of what to go see and what to expect. This book is great!! It is a great place to start, especially if you don't have alot of time on the trip and want to hit the "big stuff." I thoroughly enjoyed the overviews on all the different places. It gives you the hours, the prices, best times of day to go to places, best restaurants, etc. It even tells you what to avoid. I bought it with a few other books, which go into more detail, but this is the book you carry around with you as you walk around Athens as a reference material. It also has a laminated map of Athens in a pouch in the back of the book. This is a great resource, and it has got me totally stoked about my trip coming up!

Traveling Book 4 out of 5 stars.
