touching and beautiful on many levels 5 out of 5 stars.
6 of 6 people found this review helpful.

the little yellow leaf is touching and beautiful on many levelsl. it really captures the nostalgic feeling of fall and combines it with the fear of change, and the need to let go and trust that everything will be ok. visually, it's exquisite. thoughtfulness is alive in every aspect of the book, from the minute details iin each illustration, to the carefully selected words which perfectly convey the feelings of the little trepid leaf, to the encouraging and hopeful message that's conveyed. i love this book. it opens my heart.

The Little Yellow Leaf 5 out of 5 stars.

I loved this book; it was a wonderful story of a hesitant leaf and its friend. The story is touching and the illustration is wonderful. All around the book is a wonderful example of Carin Berger's talent and wonderful storytelling. I loved this book.

Editorial Review:

As all the other leaves float off and fly past, Little Yellow Leaf thinks, I'm not ready yet.

As the seasons change all around, Little Yellow Leaf holds on to the tree. Still not ready.

Will Little Yellow Leaf ever be ready?

This is a story for anyone who has ever been afraid of facing the unknown—and a celebration of the friends who help us take the leap.

An Exciting Survival Story 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

Hatchet is one of Gary Paulsen's finest works. I think his goal was to establish a great young adult novel that is easy to become immersed in. He looks to create a book that is enjoyable and also has a lot of useful information about life in the wilderness.
Paulsen, a writer from Minneapolis, writes young adult novels usually about nature. He has written over 200 books, short stories, magazine articles, and plays. He enjoys dog sled racing and has participated in many Iditarod races.
Brian Robeson is trapped in the Canadian wilderness with nothing more than the clothes on his back and a hatchet, given to him by his divorced mother before his trip. He crashes from a bush plane after the pilot has a heart attack and the plane runs out of fuel. He is forced to eat whatever he can find, which includes fish, turtle eggs, wild berries, and a few birds. Isolated from any outside help, Brian must find out on his own by making fire by hitting flint with more flint and other survival tactics. Many dangers seem to get in Brian's way as he tries to get by until he can be rescued. Among these dangers, Brian must face a porcupine, a moose, and even a tornado. Will he survive the elements and get rescued or will the wilderness be too much for him to handle?
I feel that Gary Paulsen has achieved his goal with flying colors. You could read this book over and over again and still find inspiration from it. Hatchet sparked the mind with exciting conflicts and kept me entertained from cover to cover. I felt that Hatchet has a certain special touch that no other writer could compare. If you are ever stuck in the wilderness, do not look for a survival guide, look for Hatchet. It will teach you more about the wild than most guides out there.

Editorial Review:

Thirteen-year old Brian Robeson is on his way to visit his father when the single engine plane in which he is flying crashes. Suddenly Brian finds himself alone in the Canadian wilderness with nothing but his clothing, a tattered windbreaker, and the hatchet his mother has given him as a present -- and the dreadful secret that has been tearing him apart ever since his parent's divorce. But now Brian has no time for anger, self-pity or despair -- it will take all his know-how and determination, and more courage than he knew he possessed to survive.

Inexplicably fun 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

My son sees this book at his doctor's office and begged for his own copy. He's usually a truck guy, so I don't understand his attraction to this book, but he definitely strongly likes it. And, heck, there's no harm in him learning the names of planets and a bit about space! Great book.

Out of Date 2 out of 5 stars.
1 of 3 people found this review helpful.

This is a great book but it's out of date. Pluto is no longer a planet. I would just skip that page but it's hard because there is also a mnemonic device that includes Pluto in it. They need to update this book with a second edition. Otherwise, it's a great book.

Great fun book about space for little and big ones. 5 out of 5 stars.

This is a really cute book about space. Fun and educational. My boys 5 & 6 love it as much as I do.

Have to agree with "Out of Date" 3 out of 5 stars.
0 of 1 people found this review helpful.

My son really enjoys this book, but I've had to make up new rhymes for the Pluto page and say "eight" planets instead of nine. Maybe if enough of us contact them. the publishers will put out a new edition. www.randomhouse.com/kids

Blast off for educational fun! Beginning readers and budding astronomers are launched via Seussian sorcery on a wild trip to visit the nine planets in our solar system along with the Cat in the Hat, Thing One, Thing Two, and Dick and Sally.

Great visuals, mediocre writing 4 out of 5 stars.

My two-and-half-year-old daughter loves these "How-To" dinosaur books. I bought How Do Dinosaurs Go To School? first, which she was hooked on and triggered me to buy this one, which she equally loves. She can memorize and articulate the 10 dinosaurs names provided in the book, just as she could with the other dinosaur book, which also introduces 10 types of dinosaurs. However, while the illustrations are highly entertaining to a toddler, the language, like that in the other book, is quite lackluster. It would be ideal if the book also shed literary value and were enjoyable to read aloud to a child as well.

Editorial Review:

A playful peek into the homes of dinosaur babies and their parents at bedtime. 'How does a dinosaur say good night when Papa comes in to turn off the light? Does a dinosaur slam his tail and pout? Does he throw his teddy bear all about?' Most certainly not! Dinosaurs give their mums and dads big hugs and kisses, tuck their tails in and whisper, 'Good night!' Brimming with humour and familiar good-night antics, here is a playful peek into the homes of dinosaur children and their parents at bedtime. Mark Teague uses a variety of perspectives in his dramatic, full-page pictures of tyrannosaurus rexes, triceratopses, and pteranodons

My son read this book at the barber shop and loved it so much we ordered it for him. It is a great way to teach word recognition and promotes fast reading so they practice, then they enjoy challenging the whole family to read the book. As a homeschool mom I appreciate any book that encourages my boy to read! Love that Dr. Seuss

Great and fun read aloud book! 5 out of 5 stars.

A book designed to twist your tongue into contortions, kids love the wackiness and also seem to enjoy seeing the grown ups mess up. Not for lightweight adult readers.

Tongue Twister Heaven 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

The note in the front of the book sums it up: Be careful, this book is dangerous. If you are looking for a lot of unusual and wacky tongue twisters which are truly hard, you need this book. It's fun reading with young children and also a fun challenge for Intermediate to Advanced learners of English as a second language. The artwork is classic Suess, too.

Editorial Review:

Illus. in full color. A collection of tongue twisters that is "an amusing exercise for beginning readers."--Kirkus.

A great children's book 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

"In an old house in Paris that was covered in vines, lived twelve little girls in two straight lines." In 1939, Ludwig Bemelmans began writing stories about a group of girls in a school in Paris, foremost among whom was the irrepressible Madeline. Those books are now considered classics in children's literature, having collected many awards.

This is a great children's book, one that my four-year-old likes having read to her over and over again. Indeed, we now have it down to where she finishes the sentences for me. "In two straight lines they..." I start, and she finishes with, "broke their bread." Well, it's a lot of fun. We both love this book and highly recommend it!

Editorial Review:

For 50 years, the adventures of Madeline have delighted millions of readers. Now, here's a special introduction to the famous "old house in Paris all covered with vines"--a paperback edition of Bemelmans' Madeline, packaged in a bright box along with a Madeline doll. She's child-safe, and machine washing keeps her as good as new!.

Klutz Book of Paper Airplanes 5 out of 5 stars.

A big sucess. We had a family reunion and it kept 6 boys happy for many hours in addition to tiring them out as they ran up and down the stairs from a loft area. Good instructions plus the proper paper.

The best airplane book we've found 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

This is the greatest paper airplane book either. My not-yet 5 son got into paper airplanes from a friend at day care. We tried a couple paper airplane books but gave up in collective family frustration. Then my son found this in a science center book shop.

They do an excellent of showing each fold very clearly, and also include pictures of the plane at each step. Not only are we able to make planes now, but the instructions and descriptions are so visibly clear that he can make them on his own. It also includes an index at the front listing all the planes and their difficulty. But my son pretty much only likes to do the hard ones, so knowing they're hard doesn't necessarily help!

Editorial Review:

Folding a single sheet of paper into a high performance, blow-the-competition-away flying paper machine has never been easier. Comes with clear instructions for folding 10 impressive kid do-able planes and 40 sheets of custom-designed paper in a variety of groovy patterns. It’s a complete guide to folding aerobatic amazements.

As for the book itself...it's awesome. So far, I've gotten this, Alice in Wonderland, and Wizard of Oz. They're great for kids and adults and just so well done. Highly recommended!

Great book for the young reader 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

I bought the Magic Tree House books 1 through 16 for my eight year old daughter. She loves them. She reads a book in two days. She can relate to the stories and has an easy time explaining what she read. This is a great start-reader for children. Mary Pope uses a healthy combination of every-day words and with some more advanced verbiage. Though my daugter doesn't always understand the big words, she is introduced to them. This challenges her comprehension. I would recommend this series to parents of children ages 7 to 9.

Wonderful Wizard is Wonderful 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

I bought this book as a birthday present for my Dorothy-obsessed 3-year old and she LOVES it. I was a little worried that it would be seriously abridged when I read that it only had 16 pages, but no need to fear. Within each page is a chapter of the book so there is plenty of story. It takes almost an hour to read it to her but it is well-worth it.

Sabuda Does It Again 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

Robert Sabuda is a master of the pop-up book and this is the second one I purchased of an adaptation of a famous children's story, and once again it does not dissapoint.

A good telling of the story combined with some incredible pop-ups, the one of the Emerald City makes you feel like you are in the story.

If you are a collector or have children you must get at least one of these books. Make sure you read it with the younger ones to show how books should be handled properly, though make sure they really understand before letting them use the book on their own.

Editorial Review:

Robert Sabuda has created a resplendent pop-up version of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the original publication. This glorious edition is told in a shorter version of L. Frank Baum's original text, with artwork in the style of W. W. Denslow. With sparkling touches of colored foil and Emerald City eyeglasses, this classic tale is certain to find an honored place on the family bookshelf.
