This book is ideal for infants and toddlers. It is well illustrated and the wording holds their attention with its lyrical flow.

Excellent Book! 5 out of 5 stars.

My son absolutely adores this book. He looks forward to reading every night before bed!

Very cute book 4 out of 5 stars.

I love Sandra Boynton. I love the illustrated characters, the simple rhymes and so, evidently, do children. The Going to Bed Bed Book looked perfect for my toddler at bed time, so I couldn't resist picking it up recently at a local bookstore. The board-book format means less destruction, so if you can just keep 'em from chewing it, the book should last a long time.

The short rhyming story follows the adorable cartoon characters as they go through their bedtime routine. They take their baths, put on their pajamas and brush their teeth. Now this is the part where I had a teensy problem...after brushing their teeth, the characters all go and exercise before going to bed. Now I don't know about you, but a two-year-old exercising before bedtime around here is a recipe for...well...a two-year-old not going to sleep. So I freely admit that I kind of skip that page.

But the very last lines make up for it:

"The moon is high. The sea is deep. They rock and rock and rock to sleep."

It is at this point that I usually drift off and my son has to jar me awake so I can kiss him goodnight.

I do recommend the book if you don't have a problem with the exercise bit or if you have a child who does NOT feel the need to mimic everything they see or read. It really is a lovely toddler's book for either gender.

Editorial Review:

No child likes going to bed and as every parent knows, their little treasures will try and delay it for as long as possible! Discover all the antics children get up to before going to bed, in this hilarious board book, written and illustrated in Boynton's own unique humourous style. The perfect way to read kids to sleep!

Do you really want your child to think like Fancy Nancy? 1 out of 5 stars.
2 of 10 people found this review helpful.

How will this book make children who don't have fancy things at home feel? I think materialism is a vice that doesn't need to be taught in a children's book. Enough people learn this on their own, why try to instill it in a 3 year old? If you want a book about a cute silly girly-girl, buy Madeline.

Creepy Cover 2 out of 5 stars.

The pictures inside and the story may be uber-cute but doesn't anyone find the cover picture a little bit JonBenet Ramsey creepy? It's basically what makes me reluctant to give this to any little girl.

One of our favorites 5 out of 5 stars.

Nancy is sweet, cute, fun and fancy!! This book is perfect for any girly girl- big or small! It's also a great way to teach your little ones BIG words!
Mommy's High Heel Shoes

Editorial Review:

Meet Nancy, who believes that more is ALWAYS better when it comes to being fancy. From the top of her tiara down to her sparkly studded shoes, Nancy is determined to teach her family a thing or two about being fancy.

How Nancy transforms her parents and little sister for one enchanted evening makes for a story that is funny and warm -- with or without the frills.

ABC3D

I purchased this popup book for my granddaughter. Some of the popup letters didn't work properly. Quality control? The book its self is rather unique in someways and was motivational.

ABC3D 5 out of 5 stars.

I collect pop-up books and this is one of the best. It is a stunningly beautiful rendition of the English alphabet in pop-up form. Each page is a delight. Some pages combine letters such as "P" and "R" where the "R" is formed by adding a transparant page containing a diagonal line to the "P". I was immensely pleased when I received this book. I would recommend it to anyone who wants a particulalry clever take on the alphabet or to a person who would find satisfaction in owning a beautifully designed and executed book.

Editorial Review:

"Easily the most innovative alpabet book of the year, if not the decade... Beyond clever."—The Washington Post Prepare to be amazed. From the lenticular cover that changes with the angle of your hands all the way to the Z, ABC3D is as much a work of art as it is a pop-up book. Each of the 26 three-dimensional letters move and change before your eyes. C turns into D with a snap. M stands at attention. X becomes Y with a flick of the wrist. And then there's U...Boldly conceived and brilliantly executed with a striking black, red, and white palette, this is a book that readers and art lovers of all ages will treasure for years to come.

Brown Bear's back! 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 3 people found this review helpful.

I remember reading this charming story to my own kids and also to my preschool class. Now it's been reissued in board book format, artistically illustrated, and every bit as enjoyable. This is a perfect book for teaching color and animal names, in a catchy rhyming format. Each page foretells what the animal and color will be on the next. Recommended for reading to babies and for beginning readers to tackle on their own.

Great book for young readers 5 out of 5 stars.

Great book. My son's favorite. At 9 months of age he knew it by name.

Repetitive, but that's the idea. Young kiddos, remember? 3 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

There are days when I am just thoroughly annoyed by this book.

And yet it remains a classic, and I grudgingly agree.

How can anyone not love the awesome repetitive rhymes and varying colors and animals? And how can you not get chills at how these animals are all staring at each other?

The original of interactive books and still probably the best.

Sweet brown bear 5 out of 5 stars.

Best bear book ever 5 out of 5 stars.

Brown Bear, Brown Bear is a classic for babies and toddlers. They may go through more than one copy. It's the first book that they memorize and that's the first step in beginning to read.
I buy it often for young children.

What is your child thankful for? Read & find out! 5 out of 5 stars.
38 of 40 people found this review helpful.

This is one of those special books that involve your children and actually makes them think about what are they thankful. For me Thanksgiving is a holiday where family and friends gather around a table full of wonderful food and this is where this book starts. I like that book includes different families and that it doesn't focus on the 1st Thanksgiving, but about things that each child is thankful for. Parents who love them no matter their actions, for books, cats, dogs, bright sunny days, friends and lollipops!

What a wonderful book that should also get everyone talking about what they are thankful for!

Cute Book 5 out of 5 stars.

I buy my kids a new book every week .They both love this book my daughter is five and my son is seven. My son has autism so it's sometimes hard to find books that he can try to read on his own.Unlike other books this one has a few sentences on each page nice bright colors. He takes this book to therapy and the kids there like the book as well.

Editorial Review:

Sure, Thanksgiving is about pilgrims and history-and turkey, of course!-but most importantly, it's a holiday all about everything that we are thankful for. Cheerful, colorful illustrations accompany the simple text in this celebration of family, friends, and the holiday that brings them all together.

We like the stories, but the grammar gives this teacher-mom a serious headache! 2 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

Pros: Fine for read aloud. Exciting stories for young (K-1st) grade children who are ready for chapter books.

Cons: Serious grammar and usage problems that may rub off on the children's own writing. Poorly-developed plotlines with not enough "meat" for the age level of children they are meant to target.

I have used these books as read-aloud for my two children. Currently I am reading them aloud at nighttime to our daughter, age six. Our daughter reads on a second-grade level, however, and has started reading these books independently, only coming to me for help with words she cannot sound out.

I didn't mind the grammar and phrasing problems when using these books strictly as read aloud, because I could correct the problems on my own as I read. However, Mary Pope Osborn seems to really enjoy the use of incomplete sentences, particularly those starting with "and". As a former second grade teacher this really, really gives me a nervous twitch in my eye! This is only the most egregious and obvious of the grammar and phrasing problems that, for whatever reason, go unnoticed by Ms. Osborn's editors and by Ms. Osborn herself.

I won't go ahead and give specific examples, since this has been well covered by previous reviewers. However, I do want to add my voice to the voices of those parents and educators who worry that this modeling of incorrect grammar may well rub off on young fans of the series. When I was teaching second grade, the students would have been expected to catch and then edit these type of mistakes out of their Writer's Workshop stories by about mid-January. I certainly expect a published author to be able to have as much respect for grammar and readability as my second grade students! I can respect an author's "style" to a degree, but I do believe that an author of children's literature should at least use correct grammar rather than "dumbing down" the sentences in what I suspect is a misguided attempt to make them easier for the children to read. (Children are smarter -- and better educated -- than you think, Ms. Osborn!)

On a positive note, the stories do keep our daughter engaged and excited, as they did our son when he was her age. However, the plots are extremely simplistic, bare bones, just plain not well developed. The actual reading level appears to be that of an average late first to second grade reader, yet my experience is that second graders expect a bit more "meat" to their stories. I know that by late second grade our son had, for example, moved on to the Chronicles of Narnia. The Magic Tree House set is, in my opinion, excellent for read aloud for kindergarten and first grade readers and perhaps as independent reading for first graders, struggling second graders, or those children who have problems with attention span. However, the teacher or parent of any independent reader will have to take care that Ms. Pope's writing style does not negatively impact the emerging writing skills of the child.

In short... Ms. Osborn, please correct your grammar!

not so controversial actually...... 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 2 people found this review helpful.

i'm a child psychology major. anyone who says this is bad for a child is obviously reading way too much into the book, and does not realize children are not capable of doing the same. this is actually a very good book for children. shame on you people and your awful thoughts.

Its a great book, with a great philosophy. Read between the lines. 5 out of 5 stars.

The moral of the story is touching, its a great gift to give a parent.

Editorial Review:

"Once there was a tree . . . and she loved a little boy." So begins a story of unforgettable perception, beautifully written and illustrated by the gifted and versatile Shel Silverstein.

Every day the boy would come to the tree to eat her apples, swing from her branches, or slide down her trunk . . . and the tree was happy. But as the boy grew older he began to want more from the tree, and the tree gave and gave.

This is a tender story, touched with sadness, aglow with consolation. Shel Silverstein has created a moving parable for readers of all ages that offers an affecting interpretation of the gift of giving and a serene acceptance of another’s capacity to love in return.

Love, Forgiveness, and Bravery 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

The Tale of Despereaux
This is a tale of forgiveness, when forgiveness is hard; love, through all the storms in life, and light through all the darkness.

Despereaux, a small mouse with large ears, wasn't interested in nibbling on the large books in the castle, along with his sister. Instead, he began reading wonderful stories about princesses, knights in shining armor and happily-ever-after. Lured by music, Despereaux found himself in the presence of the Princess Pea and the King. When he first spotted the Princess Pea, he knew he was in Love. His mother, father, brother and the entire mouse council turned against him, for proclaiming his love for the princess.

Despereaux was measured for a noose, of red thread and taken to the dungeon. Never has a mouse survived the dungeon; not with all the hungry rats waiting for a tasty treat.

Love, forgiveness, bravery and a good story may save the life of Despereaux, but who will save the princess? She has been lured into the dungeon by a young girl, Miggery Sow, who wants to be a princess and a rat named Roscuro, who longs to live in the light.

You and your family will enjoy the tale of Despaureax. Parts of this story may be scary for younger children. There is also the mistreatment of the young Miggery Sow.

I agree - Bad examples for kids 1 out of 5 stars.
2 of 3 people found this review helpful.

I agree with many of the other reviewers here. I LOVE the illustrations and the story idea is so cute! (we love pink) BUT... there is too much bad behavior in this book. We all know how much little ones like to replicate. Unfortunately, this book gives a lot of bad ideas for kids to copy. Sticking tongue out at Mommy, climbing furniture, being rude and the worst to me was talking about veggies in a negative manner. My girls love veggies! I don't want them to get the idea that veggies are gross!

It is unfortunate the bad behavior is in this book because I really like the "idea" and the illustrations.

Editorial Review:

Pink, pink, pink. More than anything, Pinkalicious loves pink, especially pink cupcakes. Her parents warn her not to eat too many of them, but when Pinkalicious does . . . she turns pink! What to do?

This sparkling picture book, filled with such favorites as pink bubble gum, pink peonies, pink cotton candy, and pink fairy princess dresses, celebrates all things pink while showing that being yourself is best of all.

Another outstanding Van Allsburg treat! 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

What can one say about an illustrator like Van Allsburg? The Polar Express is almost not a children's story but for the child with a vivid imagination (and may there still be a few in existence!!) they will identify with the little boy who travels in his dreams by the Polar Express. I know they have mad an animated film of this book and done it well but it really is more a nostalgia trip for adults. I have never seen a Van Allsburg done badly they are always incredible books and I would love to own the lot. Highly recommended!

This is one of my most cherished books from childhood. I always wished that a train would pull up to my house one night and whisk me away to see Santa Claus. The illustrations are wonderful as well. Around Christmas time I still like to make some hot chocolate and sit down and re-read this book.

The book's quality is made well. The art work most colorful and fits well with the movie and gives a great visual adventure for parent and child to share a holiday favorite in the cold winter season of Christmas. A book to indeed have each year to make a tradition.
