Fun Way to Build Vocabulary - a review of Fancy Nancy's Fav Words 3 out of 5 stars.
1 of 4 people found this review helpful.

We weren't acquainted with Fancy Nancy, but we will definitely be checking out more of her books in the future. (She reminds us a bit of Gooneybird Green: Gooney Bird Greene).

In this book the focus is 'fancy words'. As Fancy Nancy explains, "[W]hen you use one in a sentence, it's like adding sprinkles to vanilla ice cream!"

Generally speaking, the words are great choices: Accessories, Boa, Canine, Dapper, Excursion, Fiasco.... Each is given it's own page, a colorful picture, and a sample sentence, such as: "I dropped all the parfaits. What a fiasco!".

The cover on the hard back is special. It has raised letters that are all fancy and sparkly. Definitely worth a trip to the library. This one will help build vocabulary in a fun way.

The Accelerated Reading level is 3.2 which means that the average 3rd Grader in the second month of school should be able to read it themselves without getting frustrated.

Editorial Review:

Fancy Words Are Simply Fascinating!

From everyone's favorite fancy girl comes an alphabetical guide to enhancing vocabulary. Why say beautiful when there are fancy words like gorgeous and glamorous? Instead of hello, try bonjour, which is French and so much fancier. An umbrella will keep you dry, but a parasol will make you feel like a Hollywood movie star!

With this helpful A-to-Z guide, Fancy Nancy shows that making plain words into fancy ones is not only educational, it's fun!

My son loves it! 4 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

My 10 month old son loves having this read to him. He really responds to the colours and seems to enjoy the language. Its fun to read and it gets memorised very quickly. The board printing makes it very durable as Harry loves to turn the pages.

Not one of my favorites, but baby likes it 3 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

I have to say, I don't enjoy reading this book. I see in the reviews that there is a longer version, and I think I might like that more. This one just gets on my nerves. My son seems to really enjoy it, though.

Make the book a little larger and include the original text! 1 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

Should contain a warning that the original text has been edited--randomly and poorly.

I'd been reading this to my 7-mo old but needed a board book as my baby is now trying to rip real pages. I'd seen a board book version but did not expect this version to have totally different words. Some rhymes are complete--and some are not. And whoever did the editing has no ear for rhyme or rhythm. The whole point of the book is the rhyme and rhythm!

If the publishers had made the book a few pages longer and a few inches wider they could have fit in all of the text.

I wish I'd read and heeded the one-star reviews but I was in too much of a hurry.

Pop-up review 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

I not only shop at Amazon all the time but I also make sure to get the pop-up books by Robert Sabuda because neither one will disappoint. I am always amazed by the surprising elements in each of Robert Sabuda's books. I was first introduced to his books from a teacher in the school where I teach. I've bought a book each year for my granddaughter ever since. You'll never go wrong buying from Amazon as well as buying Robert Sabuda's books. Each year is better than the last.

Gotta love Sabuda books 4 out of 5 stars.

Everything I've seen with Robert Sabuda's name on it is just lovely. The pop-up books are so intricate and interesting, and this is no exception. I do find that I have to remind myself to read the text because I'm too entertained by the pictures-- but I think that's all right.

Editorial Review:

Readers will delight in this retelling of the classic story of Neverland, pirates, and flying. Robert Sabuda's elegant text and paper engineering give new life to favorite charcters like Tinkerbell, Wendy, Michael, and John, and, of course, Peter Pan. Sabuda's beautiful pop-ups are further complemented by full color illustrations that pull readers even deeper into the magical world that is Neverland.

Wonderful Read 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I used to dislike books about talking animals. Kate DiCamillo has totally changed my opinion. The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane was such a touching story that I could absolutely not put it down. I read this one immediately after finishing Ann M. Martin's A Dog's Life and I think I must have gone through a whole box of Kleenex between the two books. The people that Edward meets as he is passed from one person to another are so well-defined. Even though he is with everyone a short time, the reader really connects with everyone and wondering when Edward will finally arrive "home."

I must admit that the ending was a little cliche. ***SPOILER ALERT****

The possibility of the little girl who lost Edward in the beginning stumbling across him with her own daughter is wonderful, but the probability just isn't there. Considering how far he traveled it is amazing they connected again and no stars were lost because as a children's story this was the ending that just had to be there.

Editorial Review:

Once, in a house on Egypt Street, there lived a china rabbit named Edward Tulane. The rabbit was very pleased with himself, and for good reason: he was owned by a girl named Abilene, who treated him with the utmost care and adored him completely.

And then, one day, he was lost.

Kate DiCamillo takes us on an extraordinary journey, from the depths of the ocean to the net of a fisherman, from the top of a garbage heap to the fireside of a hobos camp, from the bedside of an ailing child to the bustling streets of Memphis. And along the way, we are shown a true miracle: even a heart of the most breakable kind can learn to love, to lose, and to love again.

Excellent Work 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

Oh, the Places You'll Go! is a very good graduation gift, and my traditional gift for such occasions. But in regular bookstores, the cost usually averages at $18. Now, used books are great ideas, usually about $5, but not for graduation gifts. So when these $12 per arrived in perfect NEW condition I was thrilled. Go Amazon.

This Seuss Classic In Not Just For Kids 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

This classic Dr. Seuss book is not just for kids. It's probably not even especially for kids. This classic book is the perfect gift for transitions: graduation, weddings, adoptions (my favorite paired with Dr. Seuss's "Horton Hatches An Egg"), new job, getting fired from a horrible job, ....)

And this deluxe edition is especially perfect for that gift at a special landmark occasion.

Ted Geisel might have crafted a book that gets shelved in the Children's Section in libraries and book stores, but he was writing especially to those of us who periodically forget, and want or need to remember, how magical and special every day of life can be.

Editorial Review:

Illus. in full color. "Don't be fooled by the title of this seriocomic ode to success; it's not 'Climb Every Mountain,' kid version. All journeys face perils, whether from indecision, from loneliness, or worst of all, from too much waiting. Seuss' familiar pajama-clad hero is up to the challenge, and his odyssey is captured vividly in busy two-page spreads evoking both the good times (grinning purple elephants, floating golden castles) and the bad (deep blue wells of confusion). Seuss' message is simple but never sappy: life may be a 'Great Balancing Act,' but through it all 'There's fun to be done.'"--(starred) Booklist.

It's your chance to help Nancy throw a Fancy Party! 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

Young readers can help Fancy Nancy throw the fanciest party ever by decorating the invitations, table, food and even the guests with the most divine collection of reusable stickers I've ever seen! And, unlike many sticker books, there seems to have been as much care taken with the wonderful backgrounds as there was with the stickers -- and the collection of stickers is generous and lovely.

There was obviously a gread deal of care that went into the design and writing of this book, and it is guaranteed to give the children in your circle hours and hours of delightful fun.

What better way is there to learn how to be an excellent hostess than by learning from the most elegant hostess of all-time -- Fancy Nancy, herself!

This is a super sticker book that girley-girls are certain to Love! Love!! Love!!

Editorial Review:

Meet Nancy, who believes that more is always better when it comes to being fancy. From the top of her tiara down to her sparkly studded shoes, Nancy is determined to make everything she and her family do as fancy as possible. With this sticker book, you can help Nancy plan the fanciest tea party ever!

Learn Your Lesson to Care About Your Family Too 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

Knuffle Bunny is two of my students' favorite book. Check out their reviews below:

Learn Your Lesson to Care About Your Family Too

When Trixe went to the laundromat she put her Knuffle Bunny down to help her father. Knuffle Bunny was her favrite stuffed animal. Then they went back hom. Trixie noticed her Knuffle Bunny was gone. When she got home her mother said "Where's Knuffle Bunny!" Then they ran back ot the landromat. Then they found her. This book Knuffle Bunny is for people that only care for their stuffed animals.

I think that because Trixe got happier when she found her nuffle bunny, and shejumped up and down and screamed "nuffle bunny!"

Another reason I think that is because they had to run all the way back to the laundromat just because of Knuffle Bunny. Instead of just letting it wash, and she made her father hurt himself.

Another reason I think that is because she made her dad stick his head in the washing mashine while the mashine was still on.

If you only care about your stuffed animal, then get off your bottom and run to the library hury up before it closes "go...go...go!"

Trixie and Knuffle Bunny

Trixie goes to the laundromat with her dad. Trixie sees she does not have her bunny knuffle bunny. She started to cry and drag her feet. Then her dad saw the same thing she did not have Knuffle Bunny. Her dad helped her look for it he went crazzy for it. Then her dad looked and looked for the bunny in the wash. Then he found it. When trixie gets it out of the wash she screams Knuffle Bunny wich were her frist words. That is how I know Trixie loves her stuffed bunny Knuffle Bunny. And it is special to her.

One reason I know Trixie loves Knuffle Bunny is because she cries really loud when she does not have it. She also cries all the way to the hosue for him. She also would not leave the house with out Knuffle Bunny.

Another reason I know is because Trixie makes her dad look really hard. She talks Knuffle Bunny everywhere with her. That is how I know she loves Knuffle Bunny.

The last reason Trixie is excited when she gets Knuffle Bunny back. When Trixie got Knuffle Bunny, Trixie said her first words which were "Knuffle Bunny" because she loves him. Trixie is very excited when she gets her bunny back.

This is how I know Trixie loves Knuffle Bunny.

Editorial Review:

Trixie, Daddy, and Knuffle Bunny take a trip to the neighborhood Laundromat. But the exciting adventure takes a dramatic turn when Trixie realizes somebunny was left behind . . .

This 2005 Caldecott Honor book uses a combination of muted black-and-white photographs and expressive illustrations and tells a brilliantly true-to-life tale about what happens when Daddy’s in charge and things go terribly, hilariously wrong.

A BEAUTIFUL MESSAGE EVERYONE NEEDS TO HEAR 5 out of 5 stars.

This book is for any parent who's head over heels in love with their little blessing! The message in this book is great. It reminds your child that they are a beautiful, wonderful, unique gift from God and that there never was and there never will be another child like them.

My son received this as a gift for his 2nd birthday and we both LOVE it! It will be my "go to" book for any baby shower from now on! My son likes pointing out the different animals in the pictures and the loving words always bring a tear to my eye. In fact, I love it so much, I just bought the baby book The Wonder of You by the same author for my 6 month old.

Editorial Review:

On the night you were born,
the moon smiled with such wonder
that the stars peeked in to see you
and the night wind whispered.
“Life will never be the same.”

On the night you were born, the whole world came alive with thanksgiving. The moon stayed up till morning. The geese flew home to celebrate. Polar bears danced.

On the night you were born you brought wonder and magic to the world. Here is a book that celebrates you. It is meant to be carried wherever life takes you, over all the roads, through all the years.

This debut picture book by Nancy Tillman has touched the hearts of readers of all ages, from the youngest readers, to new mothers, to grandparents. A New York Times and Publishers Weekly bestselling book, On the Night You Were Born is sure to be a beloved addition to family libraries.

cute book 4 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

My son had me read this over and over again. He thinks it is so funny. Especially how the elephant has big poop and the mouse has tiny poop. Although it hasn't helped him get potty trained yet, we both have fun reading it.

Excellent for young wildlife biologists! 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

My justturned3 yr old son just loves this book. He is already pottytrained (and also uses the big toilet) but loves the affirmation this book gives. He already knows mommy poops and his doggy poops (we have to pick it up!) but this shows that all animals eat (and shows various foods being munched upon) and thus all animals poop. I like that it makes that connection.

The drawings are quite painterly and stylised, yet the different types of poop (white for birds, little round balls allover for rabbits etc) are clearly indicated. We tie this into looking for signs of animals in the park and out on walks. Is that a bird poop on the car? Is that a squirrel poop next to the tree? Were deer by here last night? What did that animal eat... oh! little bits of berries in this one!

I do think this is an excellent book for demystifying poop (and the Reed Business Info reviewer quoted here could use a few reads of it: really... for something that is into twenty something printings, couldn't they find a less biased review?) Not just for toilet training, but as an introduction to animal science, observing nature, and thinking through the cycle of digestion. Identifying scat is a big part of being a field-naturalist.

Indeed everybody poops. Learning to talk about it (to tell an adult you need to go) is an important first step. Indeed it is a VERY suitable picture book subject for wee ones (and older ones) curious about the world.

Editorial Review:

"Everyone Poops by Taro Gomi is part biology textbook, part sociological treatise and all celebration of a very natural process. Both my daughters begged me to read the book over and over again. They marveled at the enormity of the elephant's poop and searched with the skill of a scientist for the tiny specks which represent bug poop. The text is simple and straightforward but not without humor.
