Wonderful and Priceless 5 out of 5 stars.
16 of 16 people found this review helpful.

Our girls grow up so fast! The times w/ them can slip away if we let it.This book helps bring that bond even closer between a mother and daughter. We take it in the car or hang out on the couch w/ it. The folks at American Girl have filled it w/ quizzes and questions that allow you to know your daughter on a deeper level. Our favorite pages so far are "What were you doing when you were your daughters age" and "What do you think you'll be doing when you are your mom's age?" They say to tear the pages out of the book and switch answers, these pages have become little treasures I know I'll pull out in years to come. It's also just plain fun! Full of recipes, bookmarks, and coupons, Just Mom and Me makes those mommy daughter times even more special.

Editorial Review:

This book is full of fun things for girls to do with their moms, from the new to the tried and true. They can tear out and share the notes and gift coupons, test their knowledge of each other with checklists made for two, and get to know each other even better with games and activities that are sure to leave them giggling. Tear-outs include quizzes, checklists, recipes, door hangers, bookmarks, notes, coupons, a photo frame, leaves for a family tree, CD case covers, and more.

Small school 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I purchased a number of dictionaries to be used by all the students in a small school. The entries included pronunciation, syllabication, and multiple definitions. They are visually pleasing and thorough enough for third and fourth graders.

The Magic Tree house 4 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

The story startes out when Jack and his little sister Annie are on their way to a place called Plymouth. At first they had no idea where they were until Jack was hung after he accidently steped into a trap; they finally found out where they were.

First, this story takes place during the time of the pilgrims coming to the United States from England on a ship well-known as the Mayflower. The story's sequence startes when Jack and Annie are introduced to all the pilgrims and an indian; his name Squanto. Sooner on in the story Jack and Annie learn how to hunt and fish for there own food. While in a women's house Jack learned how to cook over the fire. But, they run into a problem; they didn't know how things ran around there. But a women nice enough told them just that. Her nam was Prinscilla.

Last in the story they have wonderful and unforgiving diner. Also known as the First Thanksgiving Feast. Jack and Annie enjoyed their time in Plymouth because they have learned as much as I did.

I thought that this book was an awesome experience for me because I have learned alot about the pilgrims and what it was like back in the day.

Editorial Review:

The Magic Tree House whisks Jack and Annie back to the eve of the first Thanksgiving. There they meet the Pilgrims as well as Squanto, a Native American who helped them. The story offers an age-appropriate, in-depth picture of what life was really like for early settlers, as well as the usual Magic Tree House adventure and excitement.

simple stories, easy for little ones to comprehend 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

I bought this to enhance my daughters Lutheran Kindergarden education since this is the same bible they use in class.
The stories are very simple and easy for the little ones to wrap ther minds around.
The illustrations are very colorful.
My daughter actually enjoys these bible stories!

strong variety from both the Old and New Testaments 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

Not only does this children's Bible include stories often skipped over in other publications of the type, it is also compellingly illustrated with well-written and longer stories. My (almost) 3 year old loves it and will listen fully captivated for substantial blocks of time (we've read the entire Old Testament section in one sitting on a few occasions!). We have several children's Bibles, but this is, by far, her favorite! My 1 year old, however, does not stay engaged with the longer story format and seems to prefer the very basic board-book Bibles. So if you have very young children, this Bible is still a must-have, but consider it one to "grow into."

Editorial Review:

One Children's Bible leads the way for introducing kids ages 2-8 to the stories and characters of the Bible. 95 well-loved Bible stories, full color illustrations and easy to read stories.

Great book for little kids with anger issues! 5 out of 5 stars.
6 of 6 people found this review helpful.

I have been using this book to help my two sons, ages 8 & 11, understand and control thier tempers. I have read several of these types of books to them and I feel that this one has been the most effective. The book is written with an appealing age appropriate sense of humor and the illustrations are fun for them to look at. This book contains all of the important themes about anger but is presented in a way that appeals to kids. I highly recommend this book to parents of kindergarten through seventh grade kids that have anger issues. Thanks for a great book!

Great Anger Handbook 5 out of 5 stars.
4 of 4 people found this review helpful.

Wonderful explanations of what anger is, how to recognize the feelings, how to express the feeling in a healthier way and how to problem solve. My daughter loved the examples of dialogue as they were accurate samples of what she deals with on a daily basis with her peers at school. I appreciated the fact that we could pick it up and read any chapter without reading the entire book. My daughter has also benefited by reading a book called Angry Octopus: A Relaxation Story. She feels empowered by both of these books and is now implementing taking a deep breath to calm her anger just as the octopus does in Angry Octopus. It is a winning combination.

Editorial Review:

Blending tips and ideas with jokes and cartoons, this book speaks directly to kids (ages 9-12). It shows kids that anger is normal and can be expressed in many ways - some healthy, some not. It teaches them how to recognise anger in themselves and others, how to deal with situations and emotions that lead to or mask anger, and how to deal with the anger they feel.

A Beautiful tale, beautifully told 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I just finished reading this book to my 10 year old. I think it is an amazing, once in a hundred years kind of book. It is touching, honest and thought provoking. As an adult, you'll have to read it more than once to unfurl the layers and interpret the underlying meanings. Older children will pick up on the allegorical nature of the story, while younger children may be frightened by the sometimes harsh circumstances of Edward's life. I believe this book is ideal for children from 4th grade up. It should also be required reading for middle and high school English students as an fine example of the use of personification, metaphor and parable. Beautiful. Gives me the chills just thinking about it. I will read it again.

Editorial Review:

Once, in a house on Egypt Street, there lived a china rabbit named Edward Tulane. The rabbit was very pleased with himself, and for good reason: he was owned by a girl named Abilene, who adored him completely. And then, one day, he was lost. . . .

Kate DiCamillo takes us on an extraordinary journey, from the depths of the ocean to the net of a fisherman, from the bedside of an ailing child to the bustling streets of Memphis. Along the way, we are shown a miracle -- that even a heart of the most breakable kind can learn to love, to lose, and to love again.

A book that children (and adults) can easily get lost in! 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

"Spying is one of the oldest professions in the world: evidence dates back millennia (which is truly unfortunate for a secret activity should leave no trace)."

The art of spying and secret identities is one of those typical and wonderfully creative childhood fantasies. With SPYOLOGY, young people now have a fun and fascinating introduction and guide to the fantasy. This large book is chock-a-block full of information, games and stories to inspire and challenge. Like all the volumes in the 'Ologies series, readers will come across fantastic illustrations and flaps and pockets galore in these pages. The red jewel on the cover is even a "magnifying filter decoder" that can be used to find hidden messages and pictures in the book.

SPYOLOGY, the publisher tells us, is actually a declassified document. It was the book of a spy named "Spencer Blake" on a top-secret mission that no nation will claim. The first thing spies-in-training will find is the mission he received, still in the envelope marked "top secret."

Mixed in with Blake's notes is information on a variety of spycraft topics such as secret intelligence organizations, disguises, surveillance, codes, information gathering, gadgets, the history of spying and much more. There are several short case studies, spy glasses for disguise tucked neatly in a pocket, paper clues and pieces of ephemera. There are also codes to crack and secret messages, notes and letters to and from Spencer Blake, bills of counterfeit money and a wheel to decipher codex codes.

SPYOLOGY can be read as an adventure story, as a manual for learning the craft of espionage, or leafed through item by item as it catches the reader's eye. It is a book that children (and adults) can easily get lost in!

--- Reviewed by Sarah Rachel Egelman

Editorial Review:

A spy reveals startling secrets and carries out a breathless mission — in an astonishing guide that takes the 'Ologies to a new level.

The year is 1958, and British spy Spencer Blake, aka "Agent K," is on an undercover mission to expose a deadly criminal organization. As he traverses the globe with his American and Soviet cohorts — from Scotland to Berlin to Las Vegas to Cuba — he furtively records his secret techniques in a manual for new recruits.

Once they've primed themselves on the essentials of spy craft, keen-eyed readers will discover that Agent K has been setting them challenges and clues to decipher all along. If they are clever enough to unravel them all, a great reward awaits!

APA: The Easy Way 4 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I think if you're in graduate school, you really need this book AND the APA manual. However, this manual is GREAT for helping with the formatting issues, which can be quite time consuming! It gives step-by-step directions for using your word processor to type papers, which the APA manual does not.

Easy, just like it says! 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

This book was recommended by my teacher. As one well versed in MLA format, I found this APA format book very helpful and much needed (plus it was very inexpensive!). Amazon shipped early as always and I have no complaints :)

Editorial Review:

This handbook is a quick and simplified guide to the APA writing style. It was developed as a condensed version of the official APA Publication Manual and designed to be utilized as a supplement to the actual guide.

The handbook is divided into three parts. Part one focuses on the mechanics of APA format as well as internal text citations; part two emphasizes the actual reference page entries; and part three provides a sample paper.

A wonderful book 4 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl is about Charlie, a generous boy whose family is very poor. Charlie hopes to win admission to Wonka's fabulous chocolate factory which is finally open to five people. I enjoy how Roald Dahl describes imaginary characters and the interesting machines in the factory. At the factory, Charlie meets four other children who have one thing in common: they all represent naughty children in one way or another. The other children can be described as sassy or obsessed or bulging or lazy. They are all extremely unhelpful, and they expect other people to do all the work for them. Charlie is different. He is helpful, and he works hard to make his family happy. I think that there should be a scene that shows Charlie making a good choice in the factory instead of just standing there watching other kids make bad choices. I think that the book is good for readers in second to seventh grades because it is a complicated story with exciting and unpredictable characters. I liked Charlie and the Chocolate Factory so much that I chose to read the sequel!

Editorial Review:

When Charlie Bucket finds himself the proud winner of a Golden Ticket in a chocolate bar, he knows he has the greatest treat in the world in store for him. Join Charlie on his fantastic world-famous adventures in Willy Wonka's miraculous chocolate factory, where he sees strawberry-juice water pistols, luminous lollipops, a chocolate river, and rainbow drops -- and has the time of his life.

Performed by Eric Idle.
