My 7-year-old can't get enough of these Magic Tree House Books. He loves to read them and his reading improves with each book. I highly recommend these books to any parent or grandparent!

I've just read this book for the 2nd time realizing how much I had forgotten. The movie follows this book closely but the book is always better. This book like the first starts off pulling you in the minute the Weasley's break him out. I enjoyed the suspense/mystery of this book as to who is the heir of Slyterin. Time doesn't feel rushed in the book as it did in the movie. I loved this book and read it quickly, a real page turner. I will read this book again. It's excellent for kids and adults.

A wonderful sequel to "Harry Potter and The Sorcerer's Stone". The first book introduced the reader to the world of wizardry. While Ms. Rowling's debut work was filled with wonderment, suspense and gee-whiz fun, the second installment is a little darker. It also answers a few questions which remained dangling at the end of The Sorcerer's Stone. In addition, colorful, new characters are introduced; some of the familiar characters are fleshed out more; and fresh mysteries pertaining to the whole Hogwarts' realm make this book an extremely entertaining read for all ages. Read the books in sequence and enjoy the ride. My guess is that Ms. Rowling's series still will be popular long after all of us are dead and buried.

This is an excellent rendition for readers interested
in a plethora of curiosities on earth. The book
describes how the Zebrafish repairs its own eyes.
There is a beautiful picture of a monster mushroom.

A bionic hand is depicted along with a robotic
violinist. A section has a curious museum of brain
matter. The Colorado wrestling alligators are shown
in a popular action pose. Lastly, a spectacular
Crystal Cave depicts an atmosphere of pure ice.
The acquisition would make a perfect gift for the
curious at heart.

I read this a long time ago and recently read it again. It is so good. I love the way that for once voldemort is not the center of this and I love the way you hear about the Marauders. I just have like, the perfect picture in my mind of them. This is one of my favorites in the whole series.

Good, solid storytelling. Ms. Rowling's third installment in the Harry Potter series continues to add interesting characters and create an even more appealing magical world for the reader to escape into. Each book has shown the gradual evolution of Harry from a neglected, abused child and mentored into a honorable young man. But the character-building journey is certainly a bumpy ride for young Potter. Moral messages and the complexities of the human condition abound as each new story has been introduced to the public. One of the underlying messages of the book is that most problems in life are not simply black and white, but more complicated. To convey this point in a fun, exciting manner is the sign of great writing. There's real heart to this series and deserves a wide readership.

Awful, Disturbing, A Waste! 1 out of 5 stars.

It was awful! I DO NOT recommend anyone read it. Maybe some people would like it, but not me. I kept reading it, hoping it would get good, but it just got worse. And the worst part about it was that at the end, I seriously felt like the book had somehow taken something from me. And I don't mean just my time. Now I'm just trying to get it out of my head. It had the potential to be really interesting, but I just don't think it quite got there. Someone said it was rushed at the end. I agree. It felt like the author just kind of gave up. I was hoping that the novel would redeem itself somehow, but no such luck. I would be horrified if my child were required to read this in school. I don't believe in censorship, but it shouldn't be required reading. The reading level may be for younger readers, but certainly not the topics discussed in the book. What were the Newbery people thinking?!

This book is my favorite out of the first four. The reason I like the fourth book the best is because it has the most details. For example J.K. Rowling described the dragons that Harry fights against very well. She does it well because she uses examples skin color and various things like that. Another reason I like this book the best is because it has a lot of action. One example of action was when Harry had to fight a giant spider. Another moment of action was when Harry had to fight the dragons. Also there was an example of action when Harry had to fight the merpoeple.The last moment of action was when Harry fought he-who-must-not-be-named. The last reason I liked this book was because of the vocabulary. It was interesting how the cruciatus curse came from the Latin stem cruc. Another vocabulary word I learned was Yule which meant Christmas. Also my favorite vocabulary word was hippogriff. A hippogriff is a half horse half eagle. The reason I chose the word is because it sounded cool. These reasons are why I think it is the best book out of the first four Harry potter books.

The Adventure Continues.... An Excellent Read for the Family!!! 5 out of 5 stars.

This is the second book of an absolutely wonderful series that I have read aloud to my family. By reading aloud I have (perhaps inadvertantly) developed and created voices for all the different characters that have stayed with us long after we finished the book (which is quite a task!).

Reynie, Kate, Sticky, and Constance have a short period of time to find and save Mr. Benedict. They travel amazing distances in their adventure, and work together by relying on each of their own strengths. If you have not read the first book, I strongly suggest that you start there because it provides information you should know for this book (but is not necessarily required).

I really liked this book for the story and character development. My, how these kids have matured in their respective ways. In particular, I love how Constance grew (emotionally, of course) in this book and how her special talent is in process of being recognized. There is a wonderful tenderness and vulnerability about her in this book that picks up where the first book ended. As a parent, I found myself near tears when reading some of the lines dedicated to her. But it must be said that all the kids grew in this book. Kate, oh how we love Kate, for her athletic ability and I-can-do-this-despite-the-overwhelming-odds attitude. She shines. She makes us laugh. At the end of the book, she demonstrates great wisdom by making a choice that would be hard for any adult to make (or any modern viewer of action films, for that matter). She is simply amazing. My own daughter has taken to carrying her own version of Kate's bucket everywhere she goes. Really. Reynie, too, has a lot to learn in this book. His lessons are layered and multi-faceted. He is a very special person who wrestles with trust and meaning. That is quite a burden for such a guy. He wants to figure things out NOW! Sticky, on the other hand, was not as well developed in this book as the others were. However, that is not to say he didn't mature, he just was a little more smug after being a year away from their triumph at the institution. Sticky does show great fortitude at the end of this book, fully aware of what he beleives he has done to his friends.

There is a darker side to this book that I believe is necessary. The Ten Men are sinister and represent what is known AND what is unknown about the known. There is a very effective shadow that they cast in this book.
And what is to be said about Mr. Curtain? He has great plans, as always. Not good plans, mind you, but great plans for himself.

I was especially interested in S.Q. He is a likable fellow, who was a bit of comic relief in the first book, but has made some choices that he must now learn to live with. There is an especially poinient and painful moment in this book that surrounds him. I am very curious to see where this goes.

Which, as with any good series, is what these two books have developed into. I feel a bit like I did when the orginal Star Wars movies came out, especially after the second one which left us in limbo. I look forward to the next book in great anticipation at the very elusive Curtain and his schemes supported by his cast Ten Men and other agents. However, I also think these kids must save up their energy for whatever is coming next, and to let our own heart rates slow down a bit. Bravo. Well done! This is an excellent read, and should be on your bookshelves!
