worst ever 1 out of 5 stars.
0 of 6 people found this review helpful.

no question, the worst batman ever. He throws one punch and one kick. the former misses the latter is blocked. He falls off a roof in an absurdly stupid misstep. The story itself is simply far beyond any believability, the villian has no depth and the ending is predictable from page 5.

Graphic SF Reader 4 out of 5 stars.

A collection from early on in the Legends of the Dark Knight series.

A bunch of mob bosses realise someone is murdering them one by one. The person who is doing it is someone they killed 20 years before. Calling Batman for help, he basically says sit on it and rotate, until he realises who the killer is, and it gets personal.

It also gets a bit horror movie.

Editorial Review:

Batman must face his own greatest fears when the man behind the mask, Bruce Wayne, begins to have nightmares about his boyhood schoolmaster, the cruel Mr. Winchester. Now Winchester has come to Gotham City, this time with supernatural powers. And unless the Caped Crusader can stop him, he will convert the city into his own cathedral--of death.

Fabulous Artwork 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

Paul Pope really brings Batman alive in his depiction of Batman 100 years after his origin. Pope's artwork almost jumps off the page as he has a way of depicting a stunning sense of energy even in still shots with his ink brush. The feel is raw and gritty, just as Batman should be. In fact, you'll see about the coolest idea for the batmobile ever. The artwork isn't the only great thing about this graphic novel though. The story takes Batman back to his roots as a detective, which is how Batman should be portrayed--a man who also happens to be a hero. In this two-fisted story, Batman gets shot, chased by dogs and dragged through the mud as he is trying to get to the bottom of a mysterious exchange between federal agents and a known terrorist organization. If you're a real Batman fan, I definitely recommend that you give this a try.

Editorial Review:

Visionary writer/artist Paul Pope presents a futuristic mystery of epic proportions set in a dark, dystopian world devoid of privacy and filled with government conspiracies, psychic police, holographic caller ID and absolutely no room for "secret identities."

In Gotham City, 2039, a federal agent is murdered and a contingent of Washington's top agents is hot on the suspect's trail. The Batman, a forgotten icon from the past, is wanted for the murder. Amid the chaos Gotham City Police Detective Gordon, grandson of the former commissioner, discovers that the man they are chasing shouldn't exist at all.

Gotham Overboard 3 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

Gotham Underground is Frank Tieri's unabashed and slightly misguided attempt at crossing Hush with War Games, and while at it, connecting it with concurrent storylines Salvation Run and possibly even RIP. That's quite a plate full, but unlike Hush with its star studded ensemble, you can't always tell the players without a scorecard. Unfortunately herein lies one of the major problems. What starts out as an auspicious adjunct to Salvation Run gets bogged down at its midpoint by a prolonged and prosaic gang war between newcomer Tobias Whale and company versus a motley crew of wannabe rogues hurriedly assembled, armed, and attired by the Penguin, a conflict incidentally that the birdman does not readily want to partake in. Whale has departed the not so friendly confines of Metropolis, due to Intergang's interference, for the purported greener pastures of Gotham. Many Batvillains are mysteriously missing due to the enigmatic exploits of the Suicide Squad, who are additionally abetted by the duplicitious deeds of the Penguin, therefore creating a void in the Gotham gang landscape. Whale's exodus ultimately accomplished little since Intergang, fiendishly assisted by Desaad himself, have also infiltrated Gotham for their own ulterior agenda. The frustrating irony is that up until that point, things were just getting interesting, specifically with references of Bane forsaking his role with the Squad and shrewdly scheming his next grand gambit against Batman. Sadly, this direction is not explored further and alas is the last that we see of him. As for Batman, we do not see much of him either, with most of his screen time consumed by a supposed significant yet basically pointless and decompressed fight scene between him and Vigilante, a clash made all the less climactic due to a paucity of any pretext or buildup whatsoever. Some may even wonder who in the world Vigilante is. This type of tale that favors style over substance certainly has its limitations, but if envisioned properly, can be fun and exciting. All of the misplaced prominence on a somewhat silly gang war regrettably resigned the more deserving and dramatic aspects into the background, making one wonder what might have been. If Tieri had reigned in the excess slightly and sensibly streamlined the players down to a select few, the end result may have lived up to its advance expectations. At least the cover concept was cool.

Brokeback Batman 2 out of 5 stars.

PLEASE!!! So mediocre, just a lot of whining and pining. Loeb was great with Long Halloween, etc. But this is drivel. Gets a second star for the art.

Great Start To One of My Favorite Series 4 out of 5 stars.

Superman and Batman is there a better pairing in comics? I don't think so and this is exactly why I think it. Superman and Batman are just perfect foils for each other. Batman the paranoid pessimist, Superman the over trusting optimist. I could go on but, I'm not going to the two just fit together. The story is solid with several different characters from across the board heroes and villains both making appearances throughout. Art isn't the best you will ever see but, it's not too bad. I recommand to anyone who likes either of the characters.

Excellent First Volume of the Superman/Batman Series 5 out of 5 stars.

Illustrated by Ed McGuinness and written by Jeph Loeb, this volume collects the first six issues of the Superman/Batman comic book. This book is like a throwback to the team-ups of yesteryear such as World's Finest. Highly enjoyable!

Editorial Review:

Batman discovers something strange on the bottom of Gotham Bay which leads him to a powerful teenage girl bent on destroying Gotham City. Soon she'll capture the attention of Superman, Wonder Woman, and even Darkseid and his Female Furies.

Laughably bad 1 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

Jeph Loeb is known for two things in the world of comics, creating amazing stories that become instant classics and creating unreadable dribble. This stories falls into the latter category, and being backed up on art by Michael Turner who apparently has never seen a human body doesn't help matters. Save yourself some money and skip to Superman/Batman Volume 3.

A tribute to Michael Turner 4 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

It's difficult to read this story now without a tinge of melancholy in light of the recent heartbreaking and tragic passing of Michael Turner. The entire comic industry, along with his family and friends, has lost a remarkable talent and, by all accounts, a great guy also. He didn't do many complete stories outside of his own projects, which makes this rare assemblage of impressive illustrations all the more cherishable. This trade is one of the very few that I occasionally peruse strictly for his beautiful artwork alone. From his fearsome Batman to his gorgeous Wonder Woman, his amazing ability is strikingly evident in every panel. Not to be slighted, Jeph Loeb's writing talent is also quite evident in this tale that is easily the best of the four that he worked on for this title. His trademark dueling internal monologues are showcased, as is the return of Supergirl. This time around, Superman and Batman are joined by Wonder Woman and Big Barda on a perilous mission to Apokolips to rescue Supergirl from the clutches of that dastardly despot Darkseid, highlighted by a titanic physical battle and also one of high stakes poker between Batman and Darkseid. The sole flaw is that the story should have ended about thirty pages sooner upon their return to Earth, since the closing pages appear more like an epilogue whose primary purpose was to set the stage for the introduction of Kara to the rest of the DCU, and painfully cheesy it was at that. Nevertheless, still a very solid story with stunning art, the likes of which, sadly, we will never see again. Michael, you will be missed.

Editorial Review:

Batman has discovered something strange on the bottom of Gotham Bay which leads him to a mysterious and powerful teenaged girl whos bent on destroying Gotham City! Whats her connection to Superman? Why does Wonder Woman want to hide her from the outside world? Will Darkseid succeed in recruiting her into doing his bidding? This volume also includes an introduction by Loeb as well as a Kryptonian language translation key!

Nice collection 5 out of 5 stars.

Another collection of stories published by DC in the category of 'The greatest Stories ever Told'. We have seen two volumes of that cagetory presenting BATMAN, we also saw one presenting BATMAN/SUPERMAN team-up. Now it's the JOKER time.

The Joker: The Greatest Stories Ever Told collects stories from:

(1) Batman #1 (Batman Vs. the Joker) 1941 **Joker's first appearence**
(2) Batman #66 (The Joker's comedy of errors) 1951
(3) Batman #73 (Joker's Utility belt) 1952
(4) Batman #110 (Crime of the mouth club) 1957
(5) Detective Comics #332 (Joker's last laugh) 1964
(6) Detective Comics #475 (The Laughing fish) 1978 **featured in Batman animated series, Harley Quinn appears in the series, but not in comic**
(7) Detective Comics #476 (Sign of the Joker) 1978
(8) Batman #321 (Have a dreadful birthday Mr. Joker) 1980
(9) Batman Adventures Annual #1 (Laughter after midnight) 1994
(10) Batman the Long Halloween #4 (New Year's Eve) 1997
(11) Batman Black and White #2 (Case study) 2002
(12) Batman #614 (Hush Chapter 7: the joke) 2003
(13) Detective Comics #826 (Slayride) 2007

Although there were other great Joker stories that were not included in the book, the collection still nice, I only wish if it contains more pages (more stories)

Eh... 2 out of 5 stars.
2 of 10 people found this review helpful.

this is the best dini could do? i'm a big fan of his television work, so i had high expectations for this collection. i found it to be a near-complete disappointment. these stories didn't do a thing for me. i like the idea of self-contained stories in each issue, and some of the things dini's doing with the villains is somewhat interesting, but this book isn't doing it for me. the opening chapter is by far the strongest, but it has the benefit of being drawn by jh williams, who is an a-list artist. the rest of the art is third-rate. it tells the story well enough, but there's nothing worth really looking at besides the first chapter and the covers by simone bianchi, who does a nice job. i'm sure i would have liked the book better if the whole thing was drawn by williams, but i'm sure the art could only do so much to elevate the writing. and i feel like the first chapter probably would have been just as drab as the rest if it was drawn by don kramer, but taking it as a whole this book was a colossal disappointment.

Editorial Review:

Paul Dini, the Emmy Award-winning writer and producer of Batman: The Animated Series, Superman: The Animated Series and Justice League, joins with J.H. Williams III, the acclaimed artist of the Eisner Award-winning series PROMETHEA, and others for this all-new collection of mystery stories that will test the skills of the World's Greatest Detective!

The Dark Knight must face the Riddler, the Penguin and Poison Ivy as well as brand-new villains while trying to solve crimes. Prepare for twists, turns and betrayals every step of the way as Batman is even forced to forge alliances with his enemies to crack these cases.

More like a lead-in towards things to come 3 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

Since its inception, the Superman/Batman series has had it's up's and down's, and in this installment, writer Alan Burnett gets his turn on the title. This time around, Superman and Batman are headed to Apokolips to take on Darkseid and his minions, with ramifications that lead into the Death of the New Gods mini-series, Countdown, and of course, Final Crisis. Yes, it's a long road to these mega-events indeed, and while Burnett manages to provide a thorough and sometimes entertaining narrative, the story as a whole just comes off as more of a lead-in to the aforementioned events than anything else. That being said, Torment is a lot better than the past few installments to come before it, so fans are lible to get more enjoyment out of this too. Dustin Nguyen provides some nice pencil work to boot; all of which adds up to Torment being worth a look if you're a fan of either character or are following the road to Final Crisis.

Editorial Review:

Comics most iconic characters come together in this hardcover collection written by Alan Burnett, producer of acclaimed animated series including BATMAN: THE ANIMATED SERIES, THE BATMAN and more. This volume presents an epic tale that takes the Dark Knight and Superman from the streets of Gotham to the outer reaches of Apokolips in a quest that pits them against the terrifying galactic villain Darkseid, Scarecrow, Killer Croc, and more!
