I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. It is written in a very relaxed and friendly way. The author brings you in to his world and easily shares his tales with you. From beginning to end this book will astonish you with the many details that go in to the cruising industry. You will never be able to look at having a meal on a cruise the same way again. The author does a great job of giving you a peak in to how Americans are perceived by folks from other countries...it will likely give you something to think about. I highly recommend this book to those who enjoy traveling and would like a greater appreciation for those who make it great.

His hilarious chronicle of the year he spent working for Carnival Cruise Lines takes readers down into the areas where the crew works and lives, leaving readers gasping with laughter as they’re assaulted nonstop with events that range from the absurd to the utterly bizarre. Stewards fighting over food. Cutlery allowances and other nonsensical rules. What the crew calls those onboard (no, it’s not “passengers”). And of course, the sex. An abundance of ready, willing, and able bodies eager for action on a vessel replete with nooks and crannies leads to love in some mighty strange, and seemingly impossible, places. Great Guide for upcoming partial transit of canal 5 out of 5 stars.

This will be packed and going on my upcoming cruise. It has not only the historical, cultural, political perspectives on the canal, but has all the Central America, Mexico, South America ports where you stop during the cruise. Wonderful maps, pictures, and discussions about the surrounding areas.
I am enjoying studying it each night in prepartion for our cruise.
Well write and easy to pack. This author did a tremendous job with this guide. I would definitely buy other guides from Ms. Vipond.

Everyone who wants to take a cruise on the Disney Wonder or the Disney Magic should read this book. It is much better than the Birnbaum's Disney Cruise Line book. I highly recommend this book!!

If you go on a Mediterranean cruise...buy this book..if,like me,you really enjoy immersing yourself in a book about the trip of your dreams..buy this book...It is a perfect combination of facts,history and beautiful pictures and maps.The "must see" sections turn an overwelming siteseeing tour into one that is relaxed and enjoyable.My daughter and son-in-law are flying to Rome next month..she is looking forward to "borrowing" my book...it has wonderful suggestions for a Roman holiday....how romantic is that!...I would not go to the Mediterranean without this book..it would be like trying to make a delicious italian cream cake without reading the recipe..

This book is a great help in preparing for a cruise. It contains a wealth of information on cruising, but an unexpected & very interesting section is the "History of the Mediterranean.

This book wasn't as thorough as I had anticipated. It was only general info that I could obtain through internet "clicking". I had thought that this would be very in-depth on each port. Purchased two Alaska type books at the same time and this one was used only in a cursory manner.

We have chartered a boat the last two years in the British Virign Islands,this book was a great help when it came to visualizing the islands and where to find mooring balls. Others we have traveled with have also purchased the book.

We just got back from our sailing trip to the Virgin Islands, and this book was a huge asset. I can read charts all day long, but it's just not the same as seeing the actual photo of the bay. I strongly recommend this to anyone planning a trip to the Virgin Islands.

Nice guide but the photographs definitely need an update. The colors and resolution are poor. Being almost 2008, with the cameras, technology, and prints availalble someone should seriously consider updating the quality of the guide.
