Does a good job of being what the title says 5 out of 5 stars.

An intriguing book. I have already dreamt up enough vacations to last the rest of my life, and I've only had this book two days. The book has short, two or three page descriptions of 132 hotels. Most of them are based on old castles or palaces, though there are a couple based on convents, and at least one is an old royal hospital. They are all appropriate for the book. There is usually an exterior photo and an interior photo, and good information on the history of the place, both as a castle (or whatever) and how it came to be a hotel. There is fairly detailed information on accommodations, including comments on virtues and vices of specific rooms in some of the hotels (at least one specific room is listed as allegedly haunted). I could wish for a bit more detail in some cases, but that is probably unrealistic.

I hadn't planned to go to Europe in 2001, but now may have to change my plans....

Editorial Review:

Descriptions of 132 castle and palace hotels in ten countries Austria, England, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Portugal, Spain, Scotland, and Wales include the history of each, facilities and services available, activities and excursions in the area, facilities for children and disabled persons, a

Great Little Book.....Great Price! 5 out of 5 stars.

I own several guidebooks on Ireland. This is the best book I've found so far on B&Bs. It is very comprehensive. I found the recommendations to be more thorough and offer a wider range of room rates than the Frommer guides. I think if you use this book and consult the forums on tripadvisor.com, it's really all you'll need to plan your own self-guided tour of Ireland.(I recommend a Michelin map as well) It's more than worth the price, will pay for itself over and over.

Editorial Review:

A best-seller in Ireland and a real insiders' guide, Bed and Breakfast Ireland has been continuously in print since 1991. Completely revised and updated, this handy resource covers more than 400 of Ireland's best bed-and-breakfast accommodations, including guest houses, small hotels, country mansions, private homes, and farmhouses. Every accommodation has been visited by the authors, who provide informative, personal descriptions, as well as logistical information such as rates, addresses, and phone and fax numbers--all accompanied by a selection of helpful maps. Compact and comprehensive, this charming guide will help make any Irish holiday a trip to remember.

Not what we expected 1 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

This guide was not what we expected. We were hoping it would cover more B&B's in Canada but unfortunately it does not. Also it aims at the more expensive places. We feel that the term "complete" is a little bit over the top... We should have informed ourselves better. Nevertheless the B&B's that are present in the book seem very nice to visit...

one of the few good B & B directories left 5 out of 5 stars.

i stay in Bed and Breakfasts all over the country, they are really great. i use the internet to find a lot of them, most of my old directories were out dated. this is one of the few directories still left that has loads of good information in it. great directory.

We decided to publish this guide earlier in 2009 so that it will be on bookshelves in time for travelers who want to experience New England in the glory of its spectacular fall foliage. However, with it's four distinct seasons and geographic diversity, New England is a delightful travel destination all year round. It has a very special allure as well as some of the nation's most charming and romantic inns. Follow the suggested countryside routes and explore its six states from Cape Cod and the byways of Coastal Maine and discover Karen's selection of what she considers the best in terms of places to settle in each night. 6 Regional Driving Itineraries, Descriptions of over 170 Places to Stay.

0 stars is actually how i would rate 1 out of 5 stars.
20 of 36 people found this review helpful.

the author writes about how most camping in hawaii is beautiful pleasant and only at certain beaches has an unpleasant atmosphere

when in reality the truth about camping in Hawaii most campsites are loaded with homeless people who are bringing tons of junk to the campsites to live there after all it is easy to live for free in a place where it never gets cold

on Oahu camping is prohibited on wed and thurs to discourage this but its still a scary proposition to camp there.

Hawaii really needs to charge people on a per night use fee before camping in paradise will ever work.

overall this book is a SCAM on the unsuspecting camping tourist.

get a hotel package instead

Homeless persons have little effect on camping in Hawaii 5 out of 5 stars.
10 of 11 people found this review helpful.

A previous review gives the impression that campgrounds in Hawaii are overrun with homeless people, and therefore are an unattractive place to camp. I consider this review false and misleading. Although there are some homeless people in Hawaii, as in many places, and they do sometimes camp on the state's beaches, they rarely choose to use state or city campgrounds. The reasons for this are that written permits are required at all such campgrounds, all stays are limited to a maximum of 5 days, and state parks charge a fee of $5 per day - something homeless folks cannot afford. There are a few campgrounds where demonstrators (not necessarily homeless) have staged "sit ins," protesting such things as loss of Hawaiian sovereignty, lack of affordable housing, and other social issues. However, if such a situation occurs, a prospective camper will be made aware of it when he applies for a permit, and can choose to go elsewhere

Hawaii has many beautiful campgrounds, both on the ocean and in forested areas. They provide a wonderful, hassle-free outdoor experience for thousands of people every year. It would be a shame to avoid using them based on one inaccurate report. And Camping Hawaii is the perfect reference to insure a great camping vacation anywhere in the islands.

Editorial Review:

The much anticipated 2007 edition of the design hotels Yearbook will be released in early December 2006. It showcases all 146 design hotels, including 14 new hotels. For the first time it also provides an insight into the design process through interviews with such notable architects and designers as Marcel Wanders, Ron Arad and David Rockwell.

This elegant and substantial hardcover gives an indepth overview of each of the 146 member hotels through striking photography, architectural and design information as well as practical guest information. With individual entries up to 10 pages long the book weighs in with almost 600 pages and is bound with a premium faux leather to hint at the luxury contained within.

The publication, with a limited print run, is both a yearbook of members hotels as well as a design hotels' platform for communicating their vision and philosophy. This third annual edition is devoted to further exploring the role of authenticity in hotel design and establishes the yearbook as a collector's item on contemporary design and inspired travel.

More should have been put into the printing. 4 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

This is the sort of book that I love. Vignettes of things not always
found in other, more typical, travel books. Out of the way places
with photos.

But there is something wrong with the printing. And I'm not sure that
I know exactly what it is. Either the coloring on the photos is too harsh or the type isn't quite right, or maybe even the paper is wrong. I really don't know. But it appears that, because there is an Unexpected Italy, they might be making a series of books, I would hope that they make these corrections to make the books even more appealing. It is not
an attempt to dissuade people from purchasing the books.

Editorial Review:

Unexpected France seeks out the little-known delights of one of Europe s most captivating countries. Whether celebrating the pristine gardens of Versailles or the earthy cooking of the Dordogne, a lavishly restored expanse of the Louvre or the pleasures of a cliffside village, these stories reveal the hidden charms of a perennially popular destination. Guides and maps help bring each trip to life.
