Nothing Backroads or Unique 1 out of 5 stars.
9 of 17 people found this review helpful.

A wate of money. This is list main highway routes. A lot less information than what one can find in a AAA Book. No restaurants and no places to stay even listed. Looks like the authoir never visited any of these places. He certainly brings nothning unique to this book.

Motorcycling 4 out of 5 stars.

Fantastic Little Book! 5 out of 5 stars.
5 of 5 people found this review helpful.

Great guide for getting a quick and comprehensive overview of Argentina. Although primarily focused on Buenos Aires, it gives the reader a fast grasp on what seem to be the essentials in many areas of life, both personal and business. Highly recommended!

Editorial Review:

The Culture Smart! titles are not your basic travel guides: they are consistently updated customs and etiquette references for more than 25 countries, with six new titles available this fall. Now more than ever, travelers are more than just sightseers and tourists; they're ambassadors making impressions of the United States wherever they go. Readers will find these to be invaluable for pointing them on their way to a safe and fun trip abroad.

Comparison between 1988 and 2001 Editions 4 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

I had been using the 1988 edition without the need to update my library with the Second Edition until last year. Owing to geopolitical changes since 1988, a more recent edition of Webster's New Geographical Dictionary seemed necessary and the Third Edition was the current version available. The Third Edition contains more current background information (e.g. Union of Soviet Socialist Republics), expanded entries (e.g. Palghat), a subtle, easier-to-read font, sidebars, and cleaner maps (e.g. Palestine). That said, if you want more detailed maps or more concise country profiles, you might be better off checking other resource materials such as National Geographic (Magazine maps) and The CIA World Fact Book respectively. Where this boook retains its advantage is that it contains diacritical notation for the proper pronunciation of the place names.

Editorial Review:

Fully revised edition! A comprehensive guide to the key political and phsyical features of today's world. Convenient alphabetical listing of more than 54,000 entries includes 350 detailed maps, more than 130 easy-to-use tables, world population figures culled from the most recent census bureau data, and essential coverage of important historical events.

Wish I Would Have Gotten This Book Sooner!! 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I've gotten a number of packing-for-travel books in the past. This book is one of the best ones I have read, and I wish I would have gotten it sooner. I used a number of the packing suggestions for a business trip to San Antonio a couple of weeks ago. The advice and suggestions given in this book are true gems, and this book is definitely going to help me immensely for a longer trip I am taking in July.

Informative 5 out of 5 stars.
5 of 5 people found this review helpful.

This is great atlas, I would recomend it to anyone who travels on a mototcycle or drives a car. The ride atlas is very detailed it shows the best routes that a motorcyclist like myself would need to take to see the best part of the U.S. Another great feature is it's water proof don't have to worry about it coming apart in the rain, it's very well made and should last for years if you ride a motorcycle and been looking for an atlas to take with you then this is it, it's fits in saddle bags as well.

Harley Davidson has Done it Again! 5 out of 5 stars.

This is a must to any who are touring on their HDs. Maps are presented for every state in the union. Local HD Dealers are noted on the maps along with phone numbers and addresses. Sample rides are included along with highlighted maps. If you ride a Harley - this is it.

Way to much detail 1 out of 5 stars.

This atlas is great if you are traveling by car, but on a motorcyle the maps have way to much detail. There is no way you can follow these maps while riding.

Ride Atlas Too Big and Bulky 1 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

Not at all what I expected. The Ride Atlas is too big and bulky to carry with you on your bike. Also, you need a magnifying glass to see any of the MC routes which are few to say the least. I would pass on this as any type of valuable tool for motorcycle riders to find new ride routes in your state or any other state.

as close as most of us can get to ibn Battutah 5 out of 5 stars.
27 of 27 people found this review helpful.

If you want to read ibn Battutah in his own words, this is the best source currently available. But know what you are getting. 300 pages of small print, no pictures, no maps, no chronology, just the voice of ibn Battutah, echoing down through the ages. 25 pages of footnotes at the back help with the clarification of time, place, and bits of history. But for context, you need to read this book in conjunction with The Adventures of ibn Battuta by Ross Dunn.

This is a great way to hear ibn Battutah's story in his own words. The translation is clear and accessible, without seeming "modernized." Ibn Battutah's personality definitely comes through.

Editorial Review:

Ibn Battuta was just 21 when he set out in 1325 from his native Tangier on a pilgrimage to Mecca. He did not return to Morocco for another 29 years, travelling instead through more than 40 countries on the modern map, covering 75,000 miles and getting as far north as the Volga, as far east as China and as far south as Tanzania. he wrote of his travels, and comes across as a superb ethnographer, biographer, anecdotal historian and occasional botanist and gastronome. With this edition by Mackintosh-Smith, Battuta's "Travels" takes place alongside other masterpieces of the travel-writing genre.

Vietnam: A Quick Guide to Customs & Culture 4 out of 5 stars.
22 of 22 people found this review helpful.

As the title says, the book is a quick guide to Vietnamese customs and etiquette. It does not go into great depth but covers the subjects overall pretty well. I'd recommend it. Contents include how to avoid culture shock; Vietnamese attitudes and values; historical and political background; religion, customs, and traditions; the Vietnamese at home; leisure, social, and cultural life; dos, don'ts, and taboos; body language; hospitality, food, and drink; giving and receiving gifts; business briefing; and language and communications. That's a lot to cover in 168 pages in a pocket sized book. I'd also recommend "Vietnam Today" by Mark A. Ashwill for a little more depth.
