The best "carry with you" travel health book out there. 5 out of 5 stars.
7 of 7 people found this review helpful.

I have travelled and lived all over the world and I always have this book with me. Not only does it cover how to protect yourself, but if you do get sick it helps you to get better. I love that it includes different drugs for you to take for different bugs, and it tells you the exact dosage. This comes in handy when you are living in the bush in Africa, no doctor for hundreds of miles, but a well stocked pharmacy near by. I HIGLY recomend this book or anyone planning to travel or live overseas.

Editorial Review:

Both short-term vacationers and seasoned travelers need a tool to help them maintain good health while visiting or living in developing nations. Thoughtfully organized, Staying Healthy in Asia, Africa, and Latin America is organized to meet travelers' needs throughout their journeys. This user-friendly handbook offers a comprehensive overview of the most common health problems travelers encounter, along with tips on how to avoid them. Detailed sections on immunization, first aid, nutrition, and mental attitude provide the information readers need to keep their trips healthy, safe, and enjoyable.

Watch out flying aircourier.org 2 out of 5 stars.
51 of 53 people found this review helpful.

One of the things they don't tell you in this book is how fly-by-night some of the air courier companies are. I bought a membership in aircourier.org and it was the worst travel investment I ever made. The customer service is terrible, which actually counts tons when you're trying to arrange a flight. (You might have better luck going through another consolidator, but aircourier.org is really terrible.)

The other thing I found after diligently checking the flight lists is that you can often do better these days just by finding cheap web-fare flights yourself on sites like qixo.com, expedia.com, etc.. I was really disappointed by what I thought would be higher discounts. It's often no more than a few dollars (!!) difference for a lot more hassle.

Editorial Review:

Brussels for $99. Bangkok for free! Sound impossible? It's not. Every day hundreds of people take off for exotic ports of call as air couriers. This book tells how and provides a world-wide directory of courier companies plus subject and destination indexes.

Author/Publisher--Please hire a professional copy editor! 2 out of 5 stars.
8 of 12 people found this review helpful.

I guess I don't need tips dressing, packing, nor do I need makeup tips. I can't eat chocolate. There is nothing in this travel book that is new or different. I would recommend a more professionally published book by Fodor's or Rick Steves.

I have to admit, I only made it to Section 4 because this book is in terrible need of a professional copy edit. I got too frustrated.

Marc Kaplan presents a unique journey into the clouds, not via plane, but using the discipline of Yoga. Not only is Mr. Kaplan a great teacher of the ancient art, but with his creative approach he makes the journey easy to learn and enjoyable for the reader. This is a must read yoga excursion for ANYONE interested in the topic and for anyone wanting to make their lives less stressful and more in harmony with everyday reality.

Editorial Review:

You don't have to be a yogi, monk, or religious person to stretch and be flexible and healthy. Everyone has heard that by sitting for long periods of time your circulation is affected and could bring on dire consequences for your health - such as blood clots in your extended parts of your body.In our sedentary culture it is essential for us to keep our weight down and to stretch in order to reduce the stress of living. Medical people believe that stress lowers the immune system and brings on disease. The purpose of this book is to reduce tension during the trying times of flight travel, or work time, while sitting at your desk.As a life time practitioner of yoga, tai-chi and chi-kong I have devised some stretching exercises that will leave you more relaxed and able to enjoy work more, or get into the groove of a vacation mode. Enjoy!

Its the guidebook for visitors and residents, out-of-town friends, and everyone who wants to know where to find the citys one-of-a-kind stores: stores that reflect a unique point of view, an intimate approach to retailing, and are only in New York, not in every mall in America. These selections cover 50 categories and range from bags, books, and bulbs to wedding gowns, wigs, and witchcraft tools. They include everything from million collar couture, Jackie Os favorite scent, vintage American quilts, chic dog costumes, custom-made cowboy boots, Japanese fountain pens, collectible jazz records, affordable cashmere to chocolate cell phones, the revolutionary magic duster, and even a 200,000 year-old dinosaur bone.

We found this book very helpful. We read it before taking our young children to Paris. We looked in it again the following year before we went to London.

DON'T TAKE YOUR KIDS TO EUROPE 1 out of 5 stars.

THIS WAS THE MOST USELESS PIECE OF WRITING I HAD TO ENCOUNTER IN THE PAST 10 YEARS. AS A FATHER OF 3 YOUNG TEENAGERS, I SUSPECT MS. HARRIMAN DOESN'T HAVE ANY CHILDREN OF HER OWN, OR SHE WOULDN'T BE WRITING SO MANY INCONSISTENCIES ABOUT CHILDREARING.

Helpful tips for family travel 5 out of 5 stars.
4 of 4 people found this review helpful.

I used TYKE to plan a trip for my family of five to Ireland, the book gave great resouces for lodging that enabled me to rent two houses for a fraction of the cost that I would have paid using traditional sources and the houses- in one case a renovated coast guard station- were fantastic. I plan to use the book again to plan next year's trip to Sweden.

Editorial Review:

Can an eight-year-old have fun in Florence? Can you entertain a teenager in London? Can an extended family vacation to Europe be a unique and rewarding experience? Absolutely, says Cynthia Harriman, who has gathered the wisdom gained from months of travel abroad with her family into this comprehensive and essential guide. Complete with anecdotes and witty cartoons, this book includes invaluable tips about where to stay, where to eat, language skills, finding affordable fun for the entire family and more.
