Editorial Review:

This Prestwick House Literary Touchstone Edition includes a glossary and reader’s notes to help the modern reader contend with Twain’s language, allusions, and deliberate misstatements and malapropisms.

The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, Mark Twain’s sequel to The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, became an instant success in the year of its publication, 1884, but was seen by some as unfit for children to read because of its language, grammar, and "uncivilized hero." The book has sparked controversy ever since, but most scholars continue to praise it as a modern masterpiece, an essential read, and one of the greatest novels in all of American literature. Twain’s satiric treatment of racism, religious excess, and rural simplicity and his accuracy in presenting dialects mark Huck Finn as a classic. His unswerving confidence in Huck’s wisdom and maturity, along with the well-rounded and sympathetic portrayal of Jim draw readers into the book, holding them until Huck’s last words rejecting all attempts to "sivilize" him.

This has to be the best pop-up book I have ever seen. Totally awesome. And, very reasonably priced.

Fantastic Book 5 out of 5 stars.

This book is amazing and the pop ups are numerous. It is very educational. I could see this being used by students doing projects on dinosaurs. A lot of information is packed into the book and each one of the pop ups. I facinated my grandkids from age 3 to 12. I would buy this book or others like it again.

Editorial Review:

From the world's preeminent paper engineers comes an awe-inspiring tribute to the world's most beloved extinct animals and their 180-million-year reign on the planet!

More than 35 complex and stunning pop-ups include a massive T. Rex that springs out, flashing a startling jawful of jagged teeth. Turn the page and a ravishing raptor unfurls and appears to fly off the edge of the book.

This breathtaking pop-up book offers up-to-the-minute information on more than 50 dinosaur species. Six multi-layered spreads each feature one spectacular, large pop-up and several booklets of smaller pop-ups and text.

Absolutely timeless 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

So this is pretty much one of the best books ever written. The story is sweet and magical in the way of nature, and the pictures are just to die for with Keats' imaginative and surprisingly expressive design that still has not quite been beaten since. The book, story and pictures together, provides a warm, homey feeling that immediately shows a life. Keats deserved this Caldecot.

A Timeless Classic 5 out of 5 stars.

I had long forgotten this book from my childhood, and when a friend recently brought a copy over as a gift for my daughter, I gasped in delight.
The memories came flooding back as I turned each page to reveal the familiar artwork, still as fresh and engaging as it was so many years ago.
I hope my daughter grows to love this book as much as I did as a child, and I'm so excited to have been re-introduced to such a fantastic story.

Editorial Review:

"In this book sparkling with atmosphere, a small boy experiences the joys of a snowy day. The brief, vividly expressed text points out his new awareness."--The Horn Book. A Caldecott Honor Book. Full color.

Wonderful read 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

I read this book as a young child, and thoroughly enjoyed it. It is worth reading over and over, and I would recommend it for all ages.

Editorial Review:

It was a dark and stormy night; Meg Murry, her small brother Charles Wallace, and her mother had come down to the kitchen for a midnight snack when they were upset by the arrival of a most disturbing stranger.

"Wild nights are my glory," the unearthly stranger told them. "I just got caught in a downdraft and blown off course. Let me sit down for a moment, and then I'll be on my way. Speaking of ways, by the way, there is such a thing as a tesseract."

A tesseract (in case the reader doesn't know) is a wrinkle in time. To tell more would rob the reader of the enjoyment of Miss L'Engle's unusual book. A Wrinkle in Time, winner of the Newbery Medal in 1963, is the story of the adventures in space and time of Meg, Charles Wallace, and Calvin O'Keefe (athlete, student, and one of the most popular boys in high school). They are in search of Meg's father, a scientist who disappeared while engaged in secret work for the government on the tesseract problem.

Really funny, the nieces (5 and 2.5) really get into it. 4 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

This book is a quick (rhyming) runthough of the wonderful sounds Mr. Brown can do, starting with the prosaic (moo, moo, choo choo) to the obscure and absurd (a "goldfish kiss" (pip!) and a "hippopotomus chewing gum" (grum, grum, grum), those are just two examples).

This book is short, which makes it great for early readers and for toddlers learning to talk, as well as for those hurry-through-bedtime days.

It's also really interactive, so it's terrific for group storytimes, especially with more active little kids who don't just want to sit down quietly. Every page ends with the narrator asking if you can make that noise too - and trust me, they can.

not the same but still good 3 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

I won the hardback version and the boardbook version fo thiss book and the boardbook is much shorter and worded differently. The rythm is not as good and the ryhms aren't as clever. But it is still a good book to put in the hands of you toddler!

Editorial Review:

Illus. in full color. There isn't a sound Mr. Brown can't do, from a hippo's gumchewing to a goldfish's kiss. The noisemakers are graphically illustrated and the "sound effects" are printed in big lettering.

Beautiful 5 out of 5 stars.

Once again, Robert Sabuda has created a wonderful visual masterpiece based on Clement Clarke Moore's classic tale of The Night Before Christmas. It delights the child in all that open the cover, each page brings new surprises. I'm a 6th grade resource and reading intervention teacher and all my students enjoyed the book, wanting to explore the pages again and again. At home, toddlers to great-grandmothers have enjoyed it. I highly recommend that you add this work of art to your holiday collection.

The Night Before Christmas Pop Up Book 5 out of 5 stars.

Spectacular Pop-ups, beautifully done, very intricate. Most pages have two separate pop-ups. I will enjoy reading this to my grandchild and we will marvel together at the scenes that magically unfold before our eyes. Not suitable for handling by toddlers without adult supervision because, as with all pop ups, the pages can be torn easily by exuberant little hands!

Editorial Review:

Award winner Robert Sabuda brings Clement Clarke Moore's classic tale of The Night Before Christmas to life in this festive pop-up edition, sure to become a perennial family favorite.

This is our first try at Bob Books and I'm pleased with the results. My daughter LOVES to read and I'm sure this series has a lot to do with it. As we move along in her reading program, I definately intend to buy the next set.

Great books for beginning readers 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

These books have helped my daughter be a confident beginning reader. The words are very simple and we enjoy laughing at the pictures. She enjoys all the books, and feels very proud when she finishes one. She began with Set 1 at age 4 1/2 and is progressing quickly through Set 2. She'll be in Set 3 very soon.

Editorial Review:

Bob Books Set 2: Advancing BeginnersBob Books Set 2 continues to build reading skills. Use of three-letter words and consistent vowel sounds in slightly longer stories build confidence. Children love the hilarious (and sometimes mischievous) stories and pictures. These twelve books, filled with fun, drama, and surprise keep interest high for even the youngest readers.

The Lemony Snicket Who Wouldn't Stop Screaming 1 out of 5 stars.
5 of 44 people found this review helpful.

This is the worst children's book I have read for a long time, and that's saying something, considering the junk that is on a market which I try to keep myself informed upon. Tell me something, Mr. Snicket: would you tolerate a book containing the level of prejudice yours contains, if its sentiments were antisemitic rather than antichristian? I am a Christian, but I stand up for the Jews when I hear antisemitic comments. You are obviously not interested in combating prejudice, but in promoting your own ideology at the expense of others. Why don't you find something more important to scream about than people confusing two holidays together, something like the plight of your people in Israel at this moment? I don't know why you should even care about the "real" meaning of Hanukkah since you are an atheist to begin with. And you seem to forget that there are many Christians who care about and celebrate the true meaning of Christmas, that it is not just about presents and candy to us, and that some of the objects we use in celebrating it are also symbolic, as are those used to celebrate Hanukkah. If someone wishes me a happy Hanukkah, it does not offend me or make me have an identity crisis; if I thought you felt the same way, I would wish you a merry Christmas.

Editorial Review:

Latkes are potato pancakes served at Hanukkah, and Lemony Snicket is an alleged children’s author. For the first time in literary history, these two elements are combined in one book. A particularly irate latke is the star of The Latke Who Couldn’t Stop Screaming, but many other holiday icons appear and even speak: flashing colored lights, cane-shaped candy, a pine tree. Santa Claus is briefly discussed as well. The ending is happy, at least for some. People who are interested in any or all of these things will find this book so enjoyable it will feel as though Hanukkah were being celebrated for several years, rather than eight nights.

Great for very young children 4 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

My 12 month old's favorite book is "The Foot Book" by Dr. Seuss. So I bought her several other Dr. Seuss books for her birthday. She really likes this book. The other Dr. Seuss books that I purchased are a little long and wordy for her for right now, but "Hop on Pop" is perfect for this stage-and it's nice that it comes in board book form.

Classic early reader 4 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

Let's note first that this book isn't actually intended as a readaloud book, nor is it intended for children much younger than the age of six.

The format of the book reflects this. It's a bit long for toddlers (who aren't known for having great attention spans), and the different spreads are disconnected - when a kid is at the age where they struggle to read "All, Ball, We All Play Ball", the last thing they need to worry about is what they read two pages before!

Can it be used as a readaloud? No doubt! But don't be disappointed if it doesn't work for you and your kid that way.

That said, this is a wonderful early reader. Simple rhyming text, with the main words in large print at the top of the page; and really funny illustrations.

I really suggest this one.

Editorial Review:

A condensed, board book version of the classic bestseller, perfect for babies and toddlers. Introduces the youngest readers to the wonderful world of Seussian word play.

This book set is great for my 15 month old to carry around. We read a book, put it back and he loves to carry it around, with the other set of Curious George board books we got him. He feels like a big boy when he brings his box of books to us.

Curious George 4 book set 4 out of 5 stars.

This set is nice as a gift, four for the price of one. The books are smaller in size than the normal Curious George books but they are done nicely.

Fun to grow with... 4 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

Right now my 7 mo old isn't quite as INTO these books as I had hoped, but I'm not too disappointed since I know she'll grow into them and learn to love Curious George as much as I did when I was a child. I like how there are 4 different stories to choose from and in sturdy board book form. The box is nice with a carrying handle. The stories are abridged, based on other Curious George full-length books, so if you're looking for the entire story, you need to skip the board books, but for babies with shorter attn spans, this is the perfect length. I guess my baby is still at the age where she enjoys BRIGHT and BIG pictures, and less wordy.

Editorial Review:

Curious George, the beguiling little monkey, is one of the most beloved of all children"s book characters. Now this collection of four board books featuring Curious George is available in a sturdy, reusable, carry-along box. Brightly colored and suitably scaled for the youngest readers, the books feature art from the original storybooks by H. A. Rey.
