Not only for Young Adults 5 out of 5 stars.

I'm a 62 year-old grandmother and purchased this book for my teenage grandkids. Ended up reading the book myself and loved it. I don't usually read science fiction or fantasy books. However, this book was so well written with a good plot and interesting characters -- that I would recommend it to adults of all ages.

Artiemis Fowl Book 1 5 out of 5 stars.

"Artemis Fowl" by Eoin Colfer is a great book to read to your kids while having a great time yourself.
This is a story of a young boy who is beyond a mischievous young imp sbut not quite a diabolical genius. He is constantly looking for a way to reprise his once-prominent family's name and in this instance he has discovered an underground world populated with faries, Dwarfs, Goblins and other assorted, magical life-forms. When he decides to kidnap one of the Faries, (who happens to be a police officer for a force called LEPrecon) Artemis clearly underestimates the power of the magical underworld.
Enjoy this book with the entire family.

Editorial Review:

Artemis Fowl combines the astuteness of Sherlock Holmes with the sang-froid of James Bond and the attitude of Attila the Hun. But even Artemis doesnt know what hes taken on when he kidnaps a fairy, Captain Holly Short of the LEPrecon Unit. These arent the fairies of bedtime stories. These fairies are armed, and theyre dangerous. Artemis thinks hes got them just where he wants them, but then they stop playing by the rules

Review 4 out of 5 stars.

Mellana, Fiona's sister has spent her whole dowry on trinkets. So now it's up to Fiona to come up with lots of money quick. Fiona comes up with the perfect plan. She kidnaps a knight by the name of Sir Hugo Fitzstephen. Hugo is now Fiona's prisoner and the only way he will be free is if he pays the ransom. Fiona successfully kidnapped Hugo but unfortunately she has a problem on her hands. Hugo feels an instant attraction to Fiona and enjoys being her prisoner. He knows Fiona feels the same way about him. Hugo will get her to admit it one way or another.

Ransom My Heart is the last book in author, Meg Cabot's famous Princess Diaries series. This book is Fiona and Hugo's story. Hugo and Fiona will win your hearts over with their story. Fiona may look like a lady but she is just as good with a sword as any man. Hugo is a dashing knight with a killer smile. When you think of a knight in shining armor, you need only imagine Hugo. If you are looking for the next best historical romance novel than look no farther then Ransom My Heart. This book features some wonderful characters, love, adventure, and even some comedy. I look forward to Meg Cabot's next release. I am sure it will be good.

Editorial Review:

Mia Thermopolis, Princess of Genovia and star of Meg Cabot's insanely popular #1 New York Times bestselling Princess Diaries books, has "penned" her first historical romance novel . . . with help from Meg Cabot

He's a tall, handsome knight with a secret. She's an adventurous beauty with more than a few secrets of her own. Finnula needs money for her sister's dowry, and fast. Hugo Fitzstephen, returning home to England from the Crusades with saddlebags of jewels, has money, and lots of it. What could be simpler than to kidnap him and hold him for ransom?

Well, for starters, Finnula could make the terrible mistake of falling in love with her hostage.

Princess Mia Thermopolis, Meg Cabot's most beloved character, has always been an outspoken animal-rights activist and committed environmentalist. In keeping with Mia's true spirit, Meg will be donating her advance to Greenpeace.

Editorial Review:

Allie Finkle’s starting her first day of school at Pine Heights Elementary! Plus, she’s getting a new kitten, the first pick of show cat Lady Serena Archibald’s litter!

But being the New Girl is turning out to be scary, too, especially since one of the girls in Allie’s new class -- Rosemary -- doesn’t like her. In fact, Rosemary says she’s going to beat Allie up after school.

Everyone seems to have an opinion on how Allie should handle the situation. How can Allie tell who’s right? Who knew it was going to be so hard being the New Girl?

Editorial Review:

Ten thousand years ago, humans and fairies fought a great battle. When the fairies realized they’d never win, they moved their civilization underground and hid. All the families agreed, except the demons.

The demons planned to lift themselves out of time until they were ready to wage war on the humans once more. But the spell went wrong, and they were catapulted into Limbo. Now the spell’s deterioration is accelerating and the demon materializations are erupting. Even the fairy scientists cannot predict the next one.

But someone can. Artemis Fowl, teenage criminal mastermind, has solved temporal equations that no human can. So when a confused and frightened demon pops up in a Sicilian theatre, Artemis is there to meet him. Unfortunately, a second mysterious party has also solved the equations and has managed to abduct the demon.

Once again, Artemis will pair up with his old comrade Captain Holly Short, to track down the missing demon, before the spell dissolves completely and the lost demon colony returns violently to Earth.

principle before action 2 out of 5 stars.
2 of 6 people found this review helpful.

Supposedly, this is a young adult classic, but honestly, I'm not sure why. It's just not very good. Sure, it's controversial (the characters swear and think about masturbation a lot), but that's not a good enough reason for it to keep being assigned in schools.

Also, I think the thing that should make the book controversial is its portrayal of gross cruelty by students and certain teachers. Not that I'm worried that kids will suddenly become cruel just by reading this book (those who are going to be cruel tend to come by it naturally, after all), but if we're worried about exposing children to unsavory things, it ought to cruelty for it's own sake.

But what I really didn't like about this book was that although we're told there's a principle behind the actions of Jerry, who refuses to sell the chocolates, we're never told what the principle is. There's some suggestion that Jerry himself isn't really sure what his principle is, but in the context of the book, that's just not good enough.

It all started when Jerry is "assigned" by the Vigils (the school's student secret society, which doesn't actually seem to be much of a secret to anyone) to refuse to sell the chocolates for 10 days. He does (there's no suggestion that he even thinks about refusing the "assignment") but then continues to refuse to sell the chocolates after the 10 days are up, even after he gets another "assignment" that he start selling the chocolates. But why does he continue to refuse? Is it something about the chocolate sale itself, or is it about defying the Vigils? We don't know. The action of defiance seems to be more important than the principle behind it. I think Cormier got it backward.

Editorial Review:

The headmaster of Trinity College asks Archie Costello, the leader of the Vigils, a secret society that rules the school, to help with the selling of 20,000 boxes of chocolates in the annual fund-raising effort. Archie sees the chance of adding to his power - he is the Assigner, handing out to the boys tasks to be performed if they are to survive in the school. Freshman, Jerry Renault, a newcomer to the corrupt regime, refuses to sell chocolates. Enormous mental and physical pressure is put on him but he will not give in - the result is an inevitable, explosive tragedy.

A good addition to a Christmas story library 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

This beautifully illustrated tale gives the reader a warm feeling when a retired postal worker, who is alone in the world, is visited by Angelina and invited to appear as Father Christmas at the school Christmas show. The community appreciates his contribution and he is invited to the school show every year. This is a wonderful reminder to us all that the elderly should not only be cherished, but that they still have much to offer to the community.

'Angelina's Christmas' is a charming addition to the mouseling library, and a wonderful holiday classic for all! 5 out of 5 stars.

Young Angelina Ballerina couldn't be more upset when she spots old Mr. Bell sitting all by his lonesome at Christmastime, looking like a sad puppy. Mr. Bell used to be the jovial postman in town, who brought gifts and cards to everyone during the holidays, and played the town Santa Claus for all of the little mouselings. Angelina, full of Christmas spirit, decides that it is up to her to make Mr. Bell's season bright. So, with the help of her young cousin Henry, as well as her father, Angelina bundles up some cookies and cakes to bring to Mr. Bell. But when they arrive, Henry is too concerned about Christmas Eve, and whether or not he will have the chance to see Santa Claus in the flesh, to notice the joy that twinkles in Mr. Bell's eyes at the prospect of visitors and good, old-fashioned holiday cheer. When Henry learns that Santa Claus comes in the middle of the night, and that he won't get to speak to the illustrious Saint Nick, he bursts out in tears. That is, until he learns that there's a live Santa Claus living amongst them all, right here in town, and that his presence will not only bring a smile to young Henry's face, but fill old Mr. Bell with the joy of the holiday, as well.

ANGELINA BALLERINA can be called nothing less than a children's icon. Her presence in numerous glorious children's books, and now in her own TV show make her more and more well-known, while her lovable, kind heart grows bigger by the day. Katharine Holabird works wonders with a pen, as she tells the tales of the young, ballet-loving mouseling who has big dreams, accompanied by an even bigger heart; while the gorgeous, full-color illustrations by Helen Craig bring each and every Angelina "tail" to life. ANGELINA'S CHRISTMAS is a charming addition to the mouseling library, and a wonderful holiday classic for all!

Editorial Review:

It's Christmas in Chipping Cheddar and Angelina and her friends are working hard to get ready for the Christmas Show. On her way home Angelina sees lonely Mr Bell, the retired village postman, sitting at home alone. Angelina decides to bring some Christmas cheer to old Mr Bell - so she makes some biscuits and mince pies and even takes him a Christmas tree to decorate his house. Mr Bell is delighted with the gifts and in return makes an appearance at Angelina's Christmas Show dressed as Father Christmas!

Extremely short, ridiculously good 5 out of 5 stars.

When you have 30 minutes to yourself, read this book, or read half of it one day and the other half the next day.

I do not have a dog, but I have known love. Poets, dog lovers, and lovers of the world will find the heart in this book.

Love that Book! 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

It's a charming, delightful, true book about 10 yo boys and poetry. My 10yo boy agrees with most of it (he's not quite as in love with poetry by the end, but he's getting there) I would recommend this to anyone with a child struggling to appreciate poetry but especially to boys. It's so loving and light filled. It's a delightful book and a real treasure. We're keeping it!

Editorial Review:

Jack hates poetry. Only girls write it and every time he tries to, his brain feels empty. But his teacher, Ms. Stretchberry, won't stop giving her class poetry assignments -- and Jack can't avoid them. But then something amazing happens. The more he writes, the more he learns he does have something to say.

With a fresh and deceptively simple style, acclaimed author Sharon Creech tells a story with enormous heart. Written as a series of free-verse poems from Jack's point of view, Love That Dog shows how one boy finds his own voice with the help of a teacher, a writer, a pencil, some yellow paper, and of course . . . a dog.

Fun Story with a Message 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

I think this is a fun story with a good message at the end. It's funny to see the creature the chameleon winds up being toward the end - before he decides to be himself. I'd put this on the list of recommended Carle books.

Mixed-Up Chameleon 5 out of 5 stars.

This product was a wonderful addition to my teaching arsenal for animal adaptions. I gave the students an humerous start to thinking about the real life adaptions organism have that helps them survive.

The Mixed-Up Chameleon Board Book 4 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

I enjoy reading this book not only to my 18 month old son but for myself.
At the moment he doesn't always sit for the whole book as it is a little long sometimes for a board book.
I feel this book encourages imagine and is simple enough for a toddler to understand!

Editorial Review:

Except for catching flies and changing colors occasionally, this chameleon doesn't find life very exciting. When a surprise visit to the zoo makes this wistful lizard realize it can change its shape and size as easily as its color, it ends up wanting to be like all the animals in the zoo at once--with hilarious results. Full-color illustrations.

not worth it! 1 out of 5 stars.

I have ordered two of these and one didn't "chirp" and the other's cover was all bent up.

It is a cute story, but borrow it from the library and buy another Eric Carl book instead!

Another favorite Eric Carle book 5 out of 5 stars.

This is another favorite Eric Carle book, with beautiful illustrations and an interesting chirping noise when you reach the end. It's a nice quiet read for bedtime.

The Very Quiet Cricket 5 out of 5 stars.

I bought this book 15 years or so ago for my daughter who loved it so much that when I needed a gift for a friend's son, I immediately got it. The son loves it just as much as my daughter did. Got them both all of Eric Carle's books. Beautiful illustrations, the story is sweet and the surprise at the end still brings a smile to my face.

Editorial Review:

"The simple, repeating story of a young cricket weho tries to say hello to the locust, worm, etc. who greet him. He cannot make a sound until the day he meets a very quiet girl cricket. Classic Carle illustrations on heavy stock make this ideal for younger readers. The chirper that sounds when the last page is opened makes an accurate cricket sound."--Children's Book Review Service. Pest? Nope, just Excited 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

It's finally happened! Ramona Quimby is old enough to attend kindergarten! She can't wait to do big kid stuff like learn to read and participate in show and tell. Parts of school are confusing, like the song about the dawnzer. But she is making new friends, like Davey, her first crush, and Susan, whose hair is so curly it just cries out to be tugged. But when things go horribly wrong, will Ramona ever return?

I had read this book before but had forgotten just how wonderful it was until I reread it recently. Author Beverly Cleary expertly captures the emotions and reactions of a 5 year old. Heck, I think at times Ramona is more honest then many adults are today. While some of her behavior isn't acceptable, it is understandable. And absolutely funny. There are so many wonderfully funny moments here that anyone will relate to.

The story itself is more episodic then a true novel. But that doesn't mean it isn't entertaining. I certainly didn't want to put it down.

The book was originally written in the late 60's, so it might be slightly dated, but this really is a minor issue. The heart of the story is Ramona and her new kindergarten world.

Beverly Cleary has a wonderful pen for writing. The book works well for mid to late elementary school students to read to themselves. Or it can be read aloud with absolute ease.

If you haven't discovered the joys of kindergarten with Ramona, pick up this book today. You'll laugh and smile as you are carried away to a world that was simpler.

Editorial Review:

Ramona is off to kindergarten, and it's the greatest day of her life. So why is she sitting on the bench while the rest of the students play the game gray duck? Laughs and minor upsets abound in an enormously popular story starring the one and only Ramona Quimby!
