so small 2 out of 5 stars.

Didn't realize this was a mini-version of the book till I received it. It's about the size of an adult's hand (fingertip to palm). Doesn't make the best gift.

Good children's book 4 out of 5 stars.

I've only read this book a couple of times to my young son, but plan to read more once he gets older. The book is very simple and more of a short story. If you wanted to make it a litte longer for your child then you could point things out in the story like, "See the bunny" to make it longer. I really like the book though and I'm excited to use it as a bed time story. It is a recommended book after all.

Most memorable book 5 out of 5 stars.

My Mom and Dad used to read this to me every night growing up and I bought it for my God daughter because it is one of the most memorable books from my childhood.
Such a great children's book. Should be a part of every child's bedtime story time

I have always loved this book! 5 out of 5 stars.

The Christmas Edition
This was a bedtime favorite of my children. Now our oldest is about to have her own child (its a boy). So I bought a parcel of books for the baby. When Kimberly saw this book, tears sprang in her eyes remembering me reading this to her while she sat on my lap. In a few more months someone new will be in her arms on her lap, and she will be reading this book to him.

one of my favorite books of all time 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

For me, this is one of those books that you can read over and over and over, and even though you know the ending, you still can't put it down and you wish that maybe this time, there'll be a different ending.

I won't bother writing a detailed review about this book because I'd probably go on and on about it. I read it in my early teen years, and though it was never really relevant to my life (the setting, for one, is completely different from what I'm used to, and I was always somewhere in the middle of high school cliques - not on the outside, but not on the inside, either), but even then, I couldn't help but care deeply for each of the greasers. Ponyboy and his friends & family were flawed, but still likable, and they made me want the best for each of them.

Highly recommended. I can't say that enough.

Editorial Review:

According to Ponyboy, there are two kinds of people in the world: greasers and socs. A soc (short for "social") has money, can get away with just about anything, and has an attitude longer than a limousine. A greaser, on the other hand, always lives on the outside and needs to watch his back. Ponyboy is a greaser, and he's always been proud of it, even willing to rumble against a gang of socs for the sake of his fellow greasers--until one terrible night when his friend Johnny kills a soc. The murder gets under Ponyboy's skin, causing his bifurcated world to crumble and teaching him that pain feels the same whether a soc or a greaser. This classic, written by S. E. Hinton when she was 16 years old, is as profound today as it was when it was first published in 1967.

What every Children's book Should Strive to Be 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

This book truly has it all! The story takes place at night and goes through a shimmering array of charcoal looking style illustrations that seem to perfectly showcase kitten during his journey of discovery without detracting from the simplicity and sheer determination of a naive baby kitten. You can't help but laugh even as an adult at the adventures this poor, tiny kitten has in his quest for the irresistible bowl of milk (I mean of course kitten thinks the moon is a bowl of milk its her first moon and shes clearly not properly informed about the moon and how it glistens in the sky and obviously beckons to her "come drink me"). She runs, she climbs, she leaps, and even ends up soaking wet in what she thinks is another bowl of milk only to find that in the end everything she wants is waiting for her right on her very own doorstep. I love reading this to my daughter I never get sick of it, this book will absolutely stand the test of time! In fact I was so smitten with this book I've gone on to buy at least five other Kevin Henkes books for my daughter who ironically has a floral name as does most of Henke's mouse characters and their all as equally fantastic as kitten, but in my opinion for a reader with a bigger attention span 2 and a half+. I actually think "Kittens first full moon" would be absolutely amazing as a board book and so I recommend it from birth+.

Does not lend itself to Spanish 2 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

I was so excited to find Goodnight Moon in Spanish, as the English version was a favorite of my siblings 20 years ago, and my 15 month old son today. We have dozens of Spanish translations of English books, some of which work better than others. I had hoped this one would at least be okay, but for me, it seems very awkward and loses the charm of the original; and my son will not listen to even a page read in Spanish.

Others have commented that the book keeps the rhythm of the Spanish language, but I couldn't disagree more. I am hesitant to simply blame the translator--with such simple images, I think there is only so much a translator can do to preserve the feeling of the original, and perhaps this book just didn't lend itself. All the charming rhymes seem to be lost, without being replaced, and so the repetition that is so soothing, even to babies, just isn't there. In addition, the lines themselves feel so much longer in Spanish, as well, and my son, who adores the English, gets very impatient for the page to be turned.

Let me just provide a couple examples. From the first page to the second:
English: In the great green ROOM, there was a telephone, a red balLOON, and a picture of...the cow jumping over the MOON.
Okay, maybe "room" is a stretch there, but there is a rhythm to that rhyme.

Spanish: En la gran habitacion verde, hay un telefono, un globo rojo y un cuadro...de una vaquita que salta sobre la Luna.

Some other pages are slightly better:
English: 2 little kittens and a pair of mittens
Spanish: Dos gatitos juguetones, dos caletines y dos mitones

But followed by:
English: ...comb and a BRUSH and a bowl full of MUSH, and a quiet old lady who was whispering HUSH
Spanish: ...cepillo y un gran peine y papilla en un tazon, y una amable viejecita que teje muy calladita.

So is there some rhythm in the Spanish translation? Sure. But does it even approximate the English? No, I don't think so. Of course translations are not going to be perfect, but we own many Spanish texts [translated from English] that are virtually as good as (or even occasionally better than) the original. The awkwardness of this translation seems to present a bad example of the beauty and flow of Spanish, and unless reading the English version is not a possibility, I really don't recommend this book in Spanish--especially not with a baby or toddler. An older, school age child who wants to learn the Spanish vocabulary would, I think, be much more likely to enjoy this book (thus the 2 stars instead of 1).

Note for reference: Some board books we have enjoyed in Spanish include "Donde esta el ombliguito" by Karen Katz, and all the "Este no es mi..." books (Este no es mi dragon being a favorite among favorites, though, to be fair, some of the word choices are a bit odd, but that doesn't affect the overall flow of the book).

Editorial Review:

Buenas noches, Luna

Encourages Imagination 5 out of 5 stars.
9 of 10 people found this review helpful.

Reviewed by Cayden (age 4) and Max (age 2) Aures and Mom for Reader Views (8/08)

"Old Bear" is the story of a bear hibernating in the winter and dreaming that he is a cub again. He dreams of sleeping in a giant crocus, clouds raining blueberries, and all of the leaves being butterflies.

Max: "Bear sleeping."
Cayden: "He is hibernating because it is winter and that is what bears do when it snows."

Max: "Sleep in flower!"
Cayden: "That is a real big flower if it can hold that bear!"

Cayden: "Why is the sun made out of that flower? And look at all of those butterflies!"

Max: "Blueberries!"
Cayden: "I would like it if it rained blueberries! We like blueberries a lot!"

Cayden: "Why is everything yellow, brown and orange? I wouldn't like it if that was how everything looked."

Max: "Stars!"
Cayden: "They are all different colors in the sky!"

Cayden: "He woke up now and winter is done."

Cayden: "My favorite part was when it rained blueberries!"
Max: "Me too!"

Parent's comments:

"Old Bear" by Kevin Henkes is a creative book that encourages children to think outside of the box. My boys had a great time imagining a world where all of the leaves were butterflies, and where it rained blueberries! The illustrations in the book did an excellent job to complement the storyline and we really had a fun time being a part of "Old Bear's" dream sequence!

Editorial Review:

Snug and warm, curled and furry, Old Bear sleeps.

Red, orange, and brown leaves fly through the air, and it is snowing hard. Old Bear doesn't notice.

Old Bear is dreaming about being a cub again. He is dreaming about the beauty of the world. He is dreaming of everything he loves about the forest that is his home.

Goodnight Moon w/Bunny 5 out of 5 stars.

If you are familiar with the book, you know the story. This book has kind of become a family tradition. It was time to pass it on to a great-nephew...and the bunny was a bonus. (bunny is child-safe...no buttons). If you're looking for a sweet story to read at bedtime (over and over again) so it is eventually asked for, this is a great selection.
Shipping was prompt and the product in brand new condition.

What's all the hype about? 3 out of 5 stars.

Everyone was telling us we had to get this book, so I got it and I'm not all that impressed. I thought it was pretty boring and my one year old did too. She won't let me get even half way through it before grabbing for another book. The bunny that came with it was cute! Maybe she'll enjoy it more when she gets older?? As of right now, though, it's not one of our favorites. I know it's a classic, but I really don't see what all of the hype is about.

Millions of children have been lulled to sleep by this classic bedtime tale. Now paired with a cuddly plush bunny, it is the perfect way to say "goodnight."

Amazing Adventures Of TINTIN 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 2 people found this review helpful.

Since I was a little boy I liked to read TINTIN's adventures. Years later, that habbit hasn't changed at all.

Three in one all time classics 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

Many of us grew up on Tintin and love them for their great nostalgia value, and reminisces of childhood, as well as the brave values of a simpler, more clarified world of yesteryear.
This volume brings together three of the best loved Tintin classics in one handy volume- and for not much more than the price of one.
They are:
Tintin in America
1931 , and gangsters rule the streets of Chicago. It is up to intrepid European journalist Tintin and his dog Snowy to tackle Al Capone , Mr Smiles and other gangsters, taking him from Chicago to the Wild West where he dodges Indians and Cowboys , and back again.

Cigars of the Pharoah

First published in Le Petit Vingtième between 8/12 1932 and 8/2 1934. The book appeared in 1934 . Redrawn in 1955. It was first published in English in 1971.

A colourful and detailed adventure , Tintin and his dog Snowy meet up with an eccentric Egyptologist on a cruise , taking Tintin on a danger-filled adventure from Egypt to Arabia to India , in a hunt for whoever is behind the mystery of the Cigars of the Pharaoh , he is framed for heroin possesion , caught up in an Arabian war and sentenced to be executed , lost in the desert , locked up in a mental assylum in India , before being led to an international ring of drug trafficers. It is amazing the amount of detail Herge worked into these adventure comics.

Many of us grew up on them and love them for the nostalgia value.
I loved the animation in the underground Pharaoh's tomb.
Written in 1936 , The Blue Lotus is the sequel to the colourful Cigars of the Pharaoh. In the Cigars of the Pharaoh , Tintin has almost succeeded in smashing an international gang of drug traffickers , managing to capture all of them except the leader who mysteriously crashes over a ravine.
His further investigations lead him to China , then under threat from Japanese agression.
Tintin comes up against a madman infected with a dart that sends the recipient insane , enraged British colonists out for revenge after having been humiliated by Tintin and the Japanese army , with the chief villain of the piece being Japanese businessman Mitsuhirato.
This album drew protest form the Japanese government of the time , and was praised by Chiang Kai Shek , President of the Republic of China.
However, it was banned by China's Communist regime until 1984 , due to some of their own insane Maoist reasoning-and even then was still chopped up and heavily edited.
Other albums having been banned by the Communist dictatorship in China where Tintin in Tibet (for recognizing Tibetan culture) , Tintin in the Land of the Soviets (for exposing Communism)and Tintin in the Congo ('Colonialist').

Editorial Review:

Same great Tintin volumes, same 3-in-1 format, with a classy new look!

Join traveling reporter Tintin and his faithful dog Snowy, along with well-known friends such as Captain Haddock, as they embark on extraordinary adventures spanning historical and political events, fantasy and science-fiction adventures and thrilling mysteries. These full-color graphic novels broke new ground when they were first released and became the inspiration for countless modern-day comic artists.

This repackaged hardcover volume contains 3 classic Tintin stories, including: Tintin in America, Cigars of the Pharaoh, and The Blue Lotus.

Fun and emotionally educational 5 out of 5 stars.

A very fun and whimsical story that illustrates Lilly's emotional experience and how she deals with her emotions. I highly recommend. My 3 year old son loves it, and is a common birthday gift, especially for girls.

Adorable, funny book 5 out of 5 stars.

This is a great book, especially if you have an independent, free-thinking, stong-willed little person to share this with. Lilly is a spunky little mouse that exhibits typical traits of every 4, 5 and 6 year old. This is one book that I don't mind reading over and over again.

Lilly's brand new purse 5 out of 5 stars.

This story is about a girl who got a brand new purse. She really wants to show it to her classmates, but her teacher Mr. Slinger wants her to wait at an appropriate time.
I love this book because Lilly is very precious and for giving. I think this book is good for k-2nd grade. So they can have reading.
I think this is a wonderful story. Lilly loves her purse. Plus she's very anxious to show it off, that's why like this book.

Editorial Review:

Lilly, the star of Chester's Way and Julius, the Baby of the World, is back. This time she has her name in the title which is something she's wanted all along. If you thought Lilly was funny before, you are in for a treat. Lilly can't wait for you to find out more about her. Lilly loves school. One Monday she came to school especially happy because she had a brand new purple plastic purse.

A Gorgeous Book 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

This is a great example of a living book. The stories transport the listener to another place, and the journey is a pleasure. My 5 and 8 year old daughters love these stories and their illustrations.

From a longtime Herriot fan 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

Our 3.5 year old daughter loves this book. The illustrations are beautiful and the stories compelling. They are on a level that she can relate to without feeling condescended to. The stories are interesting and fun for adults to read and they are great to talk about afterwards.

A quality read for your kids 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

The stories in here are not just bedtime tales. This is life-enriching literature with quirky characters and poignant emotion which you will treasure for years to come. I got as much out of reading these to our son as he did, and you will all enjoy the illustrations. As with real living, the death of a beloved pet is included in one of the tales, so if your children would be upset by this, you might discuss beforehand.

Editorial Review:

James Herriot's Treasury for Children collects all of the beloved veterinarian's delightful tales for young readers. From the springtime frolic of Oscar, Cat-About-Town to the yuletide warmth of The Christmas Day Kitten, these stories-radiantly illustrated by Peter Barrett and Ruth Brown-are perennial favorites, and this new complete edition will make a wonderful gift for all readers, great and small.

Editorial Review:

Seven decades after Babar was born, the world is still very much in love with the noble elephant. Before his untimely death at age 37, Jean de Brunhoff wrote and illustrated six stories about Babar and his friends and family. In this exquisite gift edition, every one of these stories is included, with not a word or picture left out. From The Story of Babar--in which the elephant is born, loses his mother, runs off to Paris, and returns to be crowned king--through The Travels of Babar, Babar the King, Babar and Zephir, Babar and His Children, and Babar and Father Christmas, the beloved pachyderm's incredible life adventures are chronicled for our reading pleasure. In his introduction, picture book author-illustrator Kevin Henkes writes, "Where else could one find a balloon accident, a deadly poison mushroom, a runaway carriage, an extraordinary flying machine, a snake attack, fire, war, death, birth? These books are full of adventure and fantasy, but they also deal with the stuff of real life. And I'm convinced children long to see both the dark and the light sides of human experience reflected in their books just as much as adults do, perhaps more." Adults who truly wish to share the joys of the classics with the children in their lives could do no better than to present them with this grand collection. (Ages 4 and older) --Emilie Coulter
