My son loves the Redwall series and cooking so this was a perfect match. We've tried several of the recipes and they are very tasty; especially Hare's Haversack Crumble.

The Redwall Cookbook 5 out of 5 stars.

This cookbook is a delightful surprise. My eleven-year-old boy first loved the adventures in the Redwall books, but would also sometimes come and read aloud to me the descriptions of the feasts so deliciously described, and wonder if we could cook them. His love of finer foods is apparently shared by the author [who writes a forward for the book addressing this] and just as the adventure books included delicious feasts, the cookbook includes an adventure! The recipes are easy to follow; my son listed and shopped for the ingredients himself. We have been prone to invite over friends to explore with us and his contributions have made our meals much more festive! Go ahead and give it a try...fans of Redwall won't be disappointed!

Editorial Review:

Ever read a Redwall novel and wonder exactly what Abbot’s Special Abbey Trifle is? Or how to make Shrimp ’N Hotroot Soup, that delicacy of otters everywhere? Or Mole’s Favourite Turnip and Tater Deeper ’N Ever Pie? From the simple refreshment of Summer Strawberry Fizz to Great Hall Gooseberry Fool, they’re all here, along with dozens of other favorites sure to turn young hands into seasoned chefs, illustrated in full color with all the charm and magic that is Redwall. A gift like no other for fans of the series, old or new.

EXCELLENT! 10/10! 5 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

This is either the best or the second best Redwall book. It's the direct sequel to the Original Redwall, so there will be a lot of familier characters. Complete with 3 huge battles, a cruel monster that lurks in the dark, and an evil slaver named Slager, this book is ultimate, and I highly reccomend it!

Editorial Review:

Preparations for the feast for the Summer of the Golden Rain are underway at Redwall Abbey, and young Mattimeo's mother sets him to work with the other inhabitants. His father, Matthius, is the guardian of Redwall Abbey and it is this fact that puts the young Mattimeo in danger, as the evil Slagar the Fox plots to kidnap him in a bid to shake the very foundations of the Abbey and its inhabitants.

Rip-roaring adventure at its very best, Mattimeo is one of the exquisitely executed and totally bewitching tales in the best-selling Redwall series. Brian Jacques, with his masterly use of language and enviable talent for descriptive prose that transports the reader to the very heart of Redwall, magically weaves an epic tale breathtaking in proportion and design. Utterly addictive, Mattimeo is packed with so much color, passion, fury, and love that it will leave readers desperate for more. --Susan Harrison

Wildlough 4 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

A very good adventure story that can be read on its on or as the 18th Redwall book, Tiria Wildlough, prophisied Queen High Rhulain of Green Isle, faces an army of feral cats when she attemts to free their otterslaves. Eventurly, they are freed and live their lives out on Green Isle. This would have been better if the villians hadn't always acted so stupid.

High Rhulain 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

This was a terrific book that couldn't leave my hands. It had many surprises, like when the outlaw otter leader got captured when he was leaving the cats' fortress. I read this book, because I have read many other Redwall books by Brian Jacques which I found excellent. Many chapters had fantastic cliffhanger endings. One example of these is that three Redwall inhabitants are going up into unknown attics when the stairs collapse and the creatures below hear screams. This was a terrific book and I would recommend it to all fantasy readers.

Editorial Review:

The otters of Green Isle have long been enslaved to the Wildcat Riggu Felis. They work and wait for the day their savior will arrive—the prophesized High Rhulain, who will lead them in battle and a return to glory. Meanwhile, young Tiria Wildlough, an ottermaid at Redwall Abbey, pines for her chance to learn the ways of the warrior, much against the wishes of her father. So when an injured osprey arrives at the Abbey, seeking help for its wounds and carrying tales of an embattled clan of otters, young Tiria knows what she must do.

sweet imagination 4 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

A little to my surprise my seven year old son loves these moomin books - To me they seem from another age [I remember them from my childhood] The moomin world is full of gentle humour and a cast of sweetly strange characters romping through the long summer days in a Finnish forest. Good for imaginative kids who like to imagine other worlds. My son loves Anime and films like "My Neighbour Totoro" and these books have that kind of sensibility

Hoopla-do about not much 1 out of 5 stars.
0 of 5 people found this review helpful.

For me this book was a mess - disjointed, self indulgent, and self important, with so many characters it left my, and my childs head in a spin. Finally managed to struggle through it, but in hind-sight, the book had little that was coherent about it, and left me wishing we had read something else. Reading all these reviews makes me wonder who is writing them - the authors or the publishers?

Its complete tripe.

Editorial Review:

Heaved off her ship in a pirate raid, Mousemaid Mariel is washed up on the shores of Mossflower. With no idea where she is, or indeed who she is, the young warrior mouse embarks on an unforeseen adventure that will take her to the very heart of Redwall and into the arms of the people who live there.

Mariel of Redwall is a captivating and magical adventure story in the Redwall series by Brian Jacques. At times gentle, but mostly packed with adventure and heroism on the grandest of scales, this tale is at once delightful and devastating in its proportions.

Jacques weaves his customary magic, taking the reader to the heart and soul of the mythical Redwall--welcoming, terrifying, magical, and at times all too real. The place, the characters, and the adventure spring to life in a bout of indefinable magic, mystery, and mayhem. An excellent book that will leave readers begging for more. (Fortunately, there's plenty more where this came from!) --Susan Harrison

Harold, now and forever 5 out of 5 stars.
5 of 5 people found this review helpful.

The Harold and the Purple Crayon Series are wonderful. Harold is a little boy with a round head (around long before Charlie Brown) with a little purple crayon and a big imagination. In the North Pole book, Harold has set out on Christmas Eve to find a Christmas tree. Along the way, Harold ends up helping Santa but needs to hurry to find a tree to have it ready for Santa's visit. The simple line drawings are wonderful for younger readers yet there is always a charm to them. Harold inspires kids on so many levels; he's great for children who are timid, he's great for the mighty little explorers and he's great for kids who like to draw but feel intimidated by other artists.

Editorial Review:

There's nothing Harold can't create with his purple crayon--and that's just why children have loved his magical world for decades. Crockett Johnson wrote several other books about Harold after the original Harold and the Purple Crayon in 1955, each one tracing different themes--from Harold at the circus to Harold on Mars. This time the imaginative young artist takes his purple crayon on a search for a Christmas tree. He finds himself at the North Pole just in time to help Santa who is snowed in with his reindeer, his sleigh, and all the toys. Harold's purple crayon to the rescue! He draws his own solutions, solving both Santa's problem and his own. This would be a dandy Christmas gift wrapped up with a big pad of paper... and a purple crayon, of course. Best little book ever 4 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

My husband and I love this little book. It is a very touching story that is especially great for a father to read to his baby (especially a son). The illustrations are beautiful. The reason why I gave it only 4 stars is because, although we LOVE the illustrations, they are pretty small. I think larger drawings would be better and more interesting for babies and very small children. Otherwise, the story is interesting and heartwarming, and not at all a chore to read over and over and over again.

Kinda dry 1 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

It's a sweet sappy story :) that's the good part. But it also seemed a bit dry. This author seems to repeat the "love" theme in all his books. If you want a cute lovey story then get this one. But the pictures are nothing amazing----predominant color in the book is the soft brown of the bunnies, not much scenery in it, simple text but it has a beat to it that kids will like as big bunny and little bunny compete in a battle of words to declare who loves the other MORE.

Editorial Review:

Now in a deluxe new edition

Guess how much kids will love this! The original family classic is now available in a fresh new hardcover featuring embossing on the cover — and a new, larger trim size, making it perfect for lap sharing.

don't give up! 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

This book had a huge impact on me as a child.

Everyone told the boy his carrot seed would not come up. Even the adults. My reaction was this: adults know everything, so why is this boy still trying? I was truly surprised when the carrot seed sprouted, and I clapped and cheered. My next reaction was this: maybe *I* shouldn't give up, even when other people tell me to. This is one of the greatest lessons I've ever learned.

I read this book to my own kids now, and they love it as much as I do.

Editorial Review:

Ruth Krauss, author of A Hole Is to Dig, has crafted a story almost Zen-like in its simplicity. A little boy plants a carrot seed and waits patiently, tending to it carefully, while everyone around him insists that "it won't come up." His conviction is steadfast, however, and sure enough, a carrot worthy of first prize at any state fair springs forth from the earth. Krauss's husband, Crockett Johnson (creator of Harold and the Purple Crayon), illustrated The Carrot Seed, and while the little boy is rendered with uncomplicated lines, all of his hope, confidence, and serenity shine through. The image that resonates most strongly in this minimalist tale is the unfaltering faith of the mild-mannered little boy. Young readers learn that standing your ground in the face of opposition and doubt can often result in twice the reward expected (even thrice the reward, if judging by the girth of this carrot). nicolas's review 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 1 people found this review helpful.

A fantastic story from the Redwall series, Martin the Warrior, is a mix of friendship and battles against a ruthless rat clan. This "National best seller" from Brian Jacques is about a mouse named Martin, who gets captured in the rat's prison. This story is full of foxes, lizards, moles, rats, and of course, mice. Most fantasy lovers and animal lovers will keep rereading this fantastic book about how friendship can help others in times of conflict. As most good stories are, all Brian Jacques books are well more than worth reading. And all animals have human characteristics.

Editorial Review:

Bedrang the Stoat has his evil eyes set on ruling over his own empire, and will do anything to make sure that his ultimate fantasy is fulfilled. But little does he realize that the quiet, nameless mouse he is holding captive will one day turn out to be the heroic and fearless Martin the Warrior.

Brian Jacques uses the full force of his stunning storytelling talent to unravel the mystery and adventure that unfolds in this tale of Redwall as a quiet little mouse refuses to bow down to a tyrant and bids to fight for freedom at any cost. Brimming with cutthroat skullduggery and intellectual intrigue, Martin the Warrior is a mountainous tale that introduces the ethos and passions of Redwall with a host of well-drawn characters, each with their own Achilles' heel, making them feel as real as they are magical. --Susan Harrison

The illustrations are breath-taking--make you want to run your fingers across the page. Thousands of little girls can identify with the heroine, who is clearly the author herself( read the author's note first).

I want a pony.

I want a pony more than anything in the world.

A little girl who longs for a pony draws pictures of a dappled mare she names Silver, then rides her through a magical countryside in her dreams. At the heart of Susan Jeffers's exquisite picture book lies the idea that in her imagination, a child can journey anywhere and do anything- even fly through the stars on her very own pony...
