A delightful classic 5 out of 5 stars.

It's wonderful to see a book first published in the later 1960's still being loved and enjoyed today. It was a special treat to pass this fantastic read on to my children since it was one of my favorites growing up. Living near enough to New York that we get to the MET at least once a year made it even better for them.

Some things haven't changed in over 40 years. Kids Claudia's age still feel they have the worst parents and most miserable situation at one point or another. What sets this story apart from other "kid hates parents, kid runs away..." stories is that Claudia comes up with an adventure so that she isn't running away, but running to something - the Metropolitan Museum of Modern Art. Rather then reciting the whole story I'll just say this is a fabulous book and if you didn't read it as a child, get it and read it now with your children.

Editorial Review:

When Claudia decided to run away, she planned very carefully She would be gone just long enough to teach her parents a lesson in Claudia appreciation.  And she would live in comfort-at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.  She invited her brother Jamie to go, too, mostly because he was a miser and would have money

The two took up residence in the museum right on schedule.  But once the fun of settling in was over, Claudia had two unexpected problems: She felt just the same, and she wanted to feel different; and she found a statue at the museum so beautiful she could not go home until she had discovered its maker, a question that baffled even the experts.  The former owner of the statue was Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler And without her help Claudia might never have found a way to go home.

Editorial Review:

Originally intended as a sequel to his immensely popular Adventures of Tom Sawyer, Mark Twain's Adventures of Huckleberry Finn stands on its own as one of America's most important and beloved literary classics.

For generations, young and old alike have delighted in the unforgettable adventures of runaways Huck Finn and Jim, a slave. In vivid, often gripping prose, Twain brings to fife both the beauty and the folly of preCivil War life along the Mississippifrom the radiant dawn on the river to Huck's terrifying encounters with his father, as well as the outrageous antics of the King and the Duke and Tom Sawyer's outlandish plans to free Jim. Told from Huck's point of view, Huckleberry Finn is also the powerful story of a boy's journey toward adulthood.

In the finest work of his distinguished career, Steven Kellogg has created eighteen stunning pictures that capture Twain's timeless blend of humor and suspense. This is truly an edition that readers of all ages will want to return to again and again.

Absolutely timeless 5 out of 5 stars.

So this is pretty much one of the best books ever written. The story is sweet and magical in the way of nature, and the pictures are just to die for with Keats' imaginative and surprisingly expressive design that still has not quite been beaten since. The book, story and pictures together, provides a warm, homey feeling that immediately shows a life. Keats deserved this Caldecot.

A Timeless Classic 5 out of 5 stars.

I had long forgotten this book from my childhood, and when a friend recently brought a copy over as a gift for my daughter, I gasped in delight.
The memories came flooding back as I turned each page to reveal the familiar artwork, still as fresh and engaging as it was so many years ago.
I hope my daughter grows to love this book as much as I did as a child, and I'm so excited to have been re-introduced to such a fantastic story.

NANCY DREW BOOKS BRING ME BACK TO THE 1950'S. I'VE INTRODUCED MY DAUGHTERS AND NOW MY OLDER GRANDAUGHTER. WHAT A GREAT WAY TO SHOW MY GRANDAUGHTER WHAT HER GRANDMOTHER DELIGHTED IN SO-O-O LONG AGO.

Timeless Nancy Drew 5 out of 5 stars.

Considering that the Nancy Drew series is 78 years old, I would say that it has stood the test of time. If you're not into the original series from 1930-1979 (56 books in all), there have been many updates and additional series spawned from this character. You may think old when you see these books, but the stories are great, there's always a little edge of danger, cliffhangers on each chapter and it shows young ladies a strong, independent character with drive and smarts. Plus, there's just a great vibe you get from handling the slim hardcover novels and looking the painted illustrations on the cover.

Editorial Review:

Teen sleuth Nancy Drew has been solving mysteries and delighting fans for over 60 years. You won't believe her daring escapades and narrow escapes.

What better way to introduce a girl to Nancy Drew then with the first 6 titles published in the series? This starter set includes; The Secret of the Old Clock, The Hidden Staircase, The Bungalow Mystery, The Mystery at Lilac Inn, The Secret of Shadow Ranch, The Secret of Red Gate Farm -- all at a great price.

Editorial Review:

A wacky cross-country adventure starring the fifty states!

"Well, it was just your basic, ordinary day in the good old U. S. of A. States all over the country were waking up, having their first cups of coffee, reading the morning paper, and enjoying the beautiful sunrise.

All the states, that is, except for Kansas."

At the first annual "states party," Virginia and Idaho hatch a plan to swap spots so each can see another part of the country. Before the party is over, all the states decide to switch places. In the beginning, every state is happy in its new location. But soon things start to go wrong. Will the states ever unscramble themselves and return to their proper places?

Packed with madcap humor and whimsical illustrations, this quirky story-starring all fifty states-is chock-full of introductory facts and silly antics that will make learning geography as much fun as taking a vacation.

It bores my son after a couple of weeks and he's not yet three. At first though, he did really like it. Cute rhymes that are easy to remember, and he loved screaming the responses at first.

SO cute and funny 5 out of 5 stars.

This is one of my favorite books from childhood! I especially love the way it reads in a sing-song manner. I purchased it along with others for a baby shower to help the new mom start her child's library.

Editorial Review:

Lloyd the llama is looking for his mama. "Is your mama a llama?" he asks a bat, a swan, a cow, a seal, a kangaroo. Young children will share Lloyd's delight when the answer to his question is finally, "Yes!" With rhyme and riddle, this charming story has become a favorite.

The Original Love and Logic 3 out of 5 stars.
2 of 3 people found this review helpful.

I believe it was my third grade teacher that began reading these to me, and instantly I was hooked. Betty MacDonald is an authoress who can write to both adults and children with fine hilarity, and her character Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle makes Mary Poppins look like a moron. I find her the progeny to the Love and Logic system. The book is filled with multiple stories about kids with various, common behavior problems. Concerned parents call up Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle who then doles out a hilarious but effective cure. It's fairly scripted, but the stories are cute and funny just the same.

Editorial Review:

Everyone loves Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle

Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle lives in an upside-down house ans smells like cookies. She was even married to a pirate once. Most of all, she knows everything about children. She can cure them of any ailment. Patsy hates baths. Hubert never puts anything away. Allen eats v-e-r-y slowly. Mrs Piggle-Wiggle has a treatment for all of them.

The incomparable Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle loves children good or bad and never scolds but has positive cures for Answer-Backers, Never-Want-to-Go-to-Bedders, and other boys and girls with strange habits. '[Now] in paperback . . . for a new generation of children to enjoy.' -- San Francisco Examiner Chronicle.

i am a horror movie fan. i love it and if you are a horror fan too, you'll love this book. way better than the movie, watchers.

I adore this book!! Dean Koontz Rocks!!!! 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

I hadn't read this book in years but I found myself laid up for a couple of weeks and re-read this book along with a couple of other old favorites between trips to the Doctor's office and naps. This is a great representation of Dean Koontz's writing style. There are the misfit hero and heroine who finally connect and find redemption along the way. The wonderful dog who brings the couple together and showcases the best of canine and human qualities. Koontz, once again, serves up an actual, "monster" and a "human monster." I'm still not sure which monster disturbed me more.
Another wonderful quality of Dean Koontz's books comes from the fact that he develops wonderful supporting characters. I don't think he gets enough credit for these unforgettable characters.
This is a wonderful novel and showcases a master craftsman who continues to be at the top of his game. I have yet to read a book by Dean Koontz that I would not recommend but this old favorite is still on my top five list for this author.

The Golden Rule 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

This is a funny and great way to teach the Golden Rule! These are exactly the topics I want to teach and what a fun way to do it!

One of the best children's books on manners! 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

Do Unto Otters is one of our favorite books. Not only does it review good manners, but it gives great examples for the use of good manners. It is written in such a way that it really shows children the value of treating others as they wish to be treated. I also think it has helped my children feel more comfortable in new situations by giving them a real behavior code. Meeting other people seems to be less intimidating for them since we've gotten and read this book. It is well written and very nicely illustrated. I recommend it to everyone!!

Editorial Review:

Mr. Rabbit’s new neighbors are Otters. OTTERS! But he doesn’t know anything about Otters. Will they get along? Will they be friends? Just treat otters the same way you’d like them to treat you, advises wise Mr. Owl. And so begins Mr. Rabbit’s reflection on good manners.

In her smart, quirky style Laurie Keller highlights how to be a good friend and neighbor—just follow the Golden Rule!

Nancy Drew for 2nd / 3rd grade 5 out of 5 stars.
13 of 15 people found this review helpful.

My daughter just started second grade and she is already on the third book in this series. They are funny, well written and perfect for her reading level (she reads at her grade level) I love that fact that she is getting an introduction to the Nancy Drew characters, as I loved this series when I was a girl and in a couple of years she can read all my old Nancy Drew books herself. I highly recommend this series.

Super Nancy solves a great mystery 5 out of 5 stars.
5 of 5 people found this review helpful.

This book is about a girl who invites Nancy to her house for a sleepover birthday party. The next morning the girl's favorite doll is gone, but she doesn't tell her parents. Then her Dad asks her to bring her doll to a tea party the next day. Can Nancy find the doll in time? Read the book to find out. This book is good for an 8-year-old because Nancy is eight years old in this book.

Editorial Review:

Eight-year-old Nancy Drew has her first case to crack! Can you help?

Nancy and her two best friends, George and Bess, are so excited! They have been invited to Deirdre's sleepover party! There will be pizza, cake, and even a pajama fashion show. But the most exciting thing is that the party has a City Girls doll theme. All of the guests are bringing their dolls with them!

But then Deirdre's City Girls doll -- Hollywood Heather -- goes missing. Is her sleepover ruined? Or is there a detective in the room who can make sense of this mystery?
