It's an okay book 3 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

Thanksgiving on Thursday is an okay book because it is about a boy (Jack) and a girl (Annie) that go back in time to the first feast of thanksgiving. They help a woman prepare for the first Thankgiving dinner. They had to gather some of the food for the harvest. Jack gets caught in a snare set for an animal! Read it--it's okay!

MY BOY LOVES READING IT 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

My 1st grader hates to put it down, he would rather read Magic Tree House books, than play video games. He even reads them to his class and explains the story for show and tell. In his kindergarten class the teacher would also let him read the Magic Tree House books out loud, not to give her a break, but to promote reading out loud. Great books!

Editorial Review:

The Magic Tree House whisks Jack and Annie back to the eve of the first Thanksgiving. There they meet the Pilgrims as well as Squanto, a Native American who helped them. The story offers an age-appropriate, in-depth picture of what life was really like for early settlers, as well as the usual Magic Tree House adventure and excitement.

Creative Visual Treat & Great Mother Goose Collection 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

This has been one of our kids' very favorite books since they were about 6 months old, edited by the clever Iona Opie and illustrated by the author of the Max and Ruby books. The sing-song rhythms enchanted them as babies, and the entertaining (and adorable) animal-based interpretations of the words have kept the kids coming back to pull this off the shelf. The collection is really well-chosen, with most of the "classic" nursery rhymes here; my only complaint is that the editor seems to opt for only one verse of most rhymes where in some cases I'm pretty sure there's more to it than that. The division into "chapters" makes it a little easier to find a closure point, since they keep wanting to hear/see "just one more!" A great baby gift.

Not quite what I'd imagined 3 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

This is a very good book, but it's not quite what I'd imagined. Most of the rhymes were not familiar to me. The illustrations are beautiful, though, and it's fun to read. We enjoy it, but if I had seen it before buying, I probably wouldn't have bought it.

Editorial Review:

Charming watercolor illustrations enhance a delightful collection of sixty classic Mother Goose rhymes, including "Hey Diddle, Diddle," "Pat-a-Cake," "Little Jack Horner," and many others.

magic, danger, history 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 1 people found this review helpful.

The book Twisters on Tuesday features magic, danger and history. The magic is the tree house. I bet you're saying huh? Read the book to find out about this magical adventure.
The main characters of the story are Annie, Jake,Ted and Morgen. Annie is Jake's sister. She likes danger and Jake likes to study.
Ted is a featured charactar in this book. He starts out as a human and changes, into a dog and the story's plot is how Annie and Jake help him. I recommend this book to people who like magic and history in their books.

Editorial Review:

In the third book of the American history cluster, Jack and Annie are whisked to a midwestern prairie in the 1870s. They visit a one-room schoolhouse and learn about the hard life of the pioneers. When they return to the magic tree house, Jack and Annie spot a twister on the horizon. Is there time to warn the teacher and the children back at the schoolhouse? Or should Jack and Annie just save themselves?

just another "bestseller" 5 out of 5 stars.

Who says that children's books have to be all about fighting and lots of action? With "Dragon of the Red Dawn" Mary Pope Osborne showed once more that the escape into a world of imagination can be fun, captivating and keep children occupied for more than an hour. Listening to this audio book makes the kids travel into yet another time and country.
A wonderful book, read by the author, and another beautiful adventure with Jack and Annie.

Earthquake in the Early Morning 4 out of 5 stars.

This book is fabulous.
One of the reasons I like it is because it talked about fires, earthquake and natural disaster. Another reason is because it was near our city! The last reason I liked it is because they lost their city but still had hope. I learned some exellent facts. I learned the fire burned 28,000 buildings! They had half a millon people there. The earthquake was called "The Great Shake". It was one of the biggest earthquakes ever! I would recommend this book for three reasons. The characters are fun. Jack likes the realistic and Annie likes the magic. The second reason is the excitement and learning wonderful facts.
Earthquake in the Early Morning is a excellent book.

Editorial Review:

The magic tree house takes Jack and Annie to San Francisco in 1906, in time for them to experience one of the biggest earthquakes the United States had ever known.

Dinosaurs Before Dark 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

My sister gave my five year old daughter the first four books of the Magic Tree House series. We read the first book "Dinosaurs Before Dark" last night together and loved it. While some of the reviews are written negatively, referring to the simplicity of the story and lack of depth of the characters and the plot, I feel the simplicity is what makes it popular with the target age group. My daughter has a vivd imagination and was not bored in the least by Ms. Pope Osborne's writing style. We sat in bed talking about each chapter. Not only did we discuss the story but my daughter began to ask questions about the structure of chapter books. I read "Charlotte's Web" to my daughter awhile back. While she did enjoy that particular book, she had no interest in having me read to her other chapter books. I think the Magic Tree House series is an excellent way to graduate children from illustrated books to chapter books without overwhelming them. Don't underestimate the power of simplicity. When used properly it can open ones mind to greater possibilities. I think Ms. Pope Osborne has mastered that skill wonderfully. I look forward to reading each and every book in the Magic Treehouse series.

Editorial Review:

Illus. in black-and-white. "With an entertaining blend of fact, farce, and fantasy, Osborne tells the story of Jack and his sister, Annie, who take a trip in a magic tree house and land in a time 65 million years ago. They find dinosaurs and volcanoes and adventure. Veteran storyteller Osborne builds the power of reading into the story: it's the books in the tree house that give the kids the magic to travel and see far, far away."--Booklist.

Here's one for the Wolves 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 3 people found this review helpful.

I bought this book as a gift for the younger daughter of a friend. Since I had ordered Harry Potter for her sister, I wanted her to have something too. It turned out to be one terrific gift in many ways. As a parent and teacher, I would never give a book to a child without checking it first for suitability. I found the story delightful -- warmhearted and humorous. "And the moral of the story is . . . " even better than the original.
The best part for me was that the wolves, those so unfairly maligned family animals, are the Good Guys.
And oh yes, she loved it.

Editorial Review:

When it comes time for the three little wolves to go out into the world and build themselves a house, their mother warns them to beware the big bad pig. But the little wolves' increasingly sturdy dwellings are no match for the persistent porker, who has more up his sleeve than huffing and puffing. It takes a chance encounter with a flamingo pushing a wheelbarrow full of flowers to provide a surprising and satisfying solution to the little wolves' housing crisis.

Eugene Trivizas's hilarious text and Helen Oxenbury's enchanting watercolors have made this delightfully skewed version of the traditional tale a contemporary classic.

Christmas in Camelot
It begins with a simple invitation to spend Christmas Eve in Camelot, a magical place that exists only in myth and fantasy. What Jack and Annie don’t know is that the invitation will send them on a quest to save Camelot itself — not from destruction, but from being forgotten forever.

Haunted Castle on Hallow’s Eve
The castle looms dark against the light of the moon. Giant ravens circle in the sky. Merlin the magician needs someone to find out what has happened. But who is brave enough to brush the cobwebs aside and go through the heavy doors? Merlin thinks he knows the answer to these questions–Jack and Annie.

Summer of the Sea Serpent
Jack and Annie are off on another mythical mission at the request of Merlin the magician. Luckily, they have a young sorcerer, Teddy, to help them. From underwater caves to a Spider Queen, from mystical selkies to a magical sword, this is a Magic Tree House adventure kids won’t want to miss!

Winter of the Ice Wizard
