Another charmer from Polacco 5 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

You'll want to go out and adopt a kitten after reading For the Love of Autumn. This charming storybook brings to life the joy and fun of having a kitty for a pet.

The story is about Danielle, a young teacher with a kitten named Autumn. The gray kitty shares Danielle's life, pouncing at her ankles as she walks, and curling up with her in the evening with a bowl of popcorn. When the young woman gets a new job in a seaside village, Autumn "helps" her pack and move into her new cottage. Autumn disappears one stormy night and Danielle's students help her find the kitten, and her true love, as well.

The heart of this book, as in other Patricia Polacco books for kids, is in the illustrations. The delicate full-color watercolors bring the story to life, and capture tiny moments like Autumn leaping toward a dragonfly on a flower. The faces of Danielle and her students show such expression. Even without the depth in the story, the book is worth it just for the artwork.

Other good choices from Polacco: The Lemonade Club, Ginger and Petunia, I Can Hear the Sun (Picture Puffins), When Lightning Comes in a Jar, Mommies Say Shh! and The Bee Tree.

Editorial Review:

Tender and sweet: A love story from Polacco.

Miss Parks just loves her new home, her new teaching job, and all her new students. But most of all, she loves Autumn, her perfect little kitten. Then one night, during a terrible storm, Autumn runs away. Miss Parks’ students band together to search for Autumn—with no luck. Hope is lost until Autumn turns up at Miss Parks’ front door with a brand new collar and a bandage on her tail. Someone has been taking care of Autumn!

With the help of her students, Miss Parks unravels the mystery of Autumn’s disappearance and finds true love along the way, Polacco style.

super cute 5 out of 5 stars.

We love these little board books, my binky loving 18 month old daughter likes this one a lot. Cute little story and she has already learned to say no in all the right places.

Best bed time story! 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

My 10-12 months old boys love to hear the story before they go to bed. The part where the baby cries, when he can't find the binky, gets special attention from them, and the good ending finishes the story well and directs them to bed. I truely feel that they understand and like the story line, as they can identify with it, which is amazing for 10 months old babies.

we adore this book! 5 out of 5 stars.

this is one of my daughter's favorites- she had it memorized in no time. I also like how in the end, binky is in the baby's bed. We are tying to limit my son's binky use to bedtime only and it's a good reminder that binky's are for bedtime!

neenee 5 out of 5 stars.

my son is two years old. he just loves this book. within a week of reading him this book he knows the words. he'll say fishy? neenee?(thats what he refers to his binky as). in the book the baby asks the animals and his parents where/who has his binky. i highly recomend this book. we also have the blanket book by the same author. another great book.

Editorial Review:

Bright and playful board book devoted to the all-important Binky that raises the plaintive question: can there be any peace in the house when a beloved binky is not to be found?

Every one loves Dragon! 5 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

My 3 & 5 years old children loved dragon after reading this book ...we've been reading it again & again & they never said enough ...the adorable ,cute drawings really attract the kids & make them in love with that dragon ...the story is about a dragon who is sitting infront of the fireplace in a snowy weather ..he hears a "meow" sound outside ..he opens the door to find a cold fat cat.....fun events will follow when the dragon wants to take care of his new pet ...then like going to the beginning the cat is lost ...he looks for her ..he hears "meow" again & here comes the fun part ...the cat had babies ....wow ! you can't imagine how happy & excited the kids will be .....wonderful story ..Great from Pilkey ..

Great for reading aloud to any age! 5 out of 5 stars.

We have been reading this book to our daughter since she was about 9 months old. She loves pointing to the pictures and as she's gotten older (she is almost 2 now) she has enjoyed "counting" the cats, imitating the emotions and gestures of Dragon and the mailmouse, and saying the words as she learns them... it's a great game, and she really seems to laugh at all the right places. Even though this is a chapter book for early readers, I think any child will enjoy the pictures and story, especially if she or he has pets around. I'm going to be getting more of the series with all of her gift certificates from Christmas!

Great Fun. With Pictures. 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

Terry Pratchett's "Wee Free Men" in its original form has already been a wonderful appendix to the main Discworld book series, "Wee Free Men" being the first of the books written about Tiffany Aching, a young witch in-training and friend to the pictsies (think of drunken, thieving, fighting pixies with Scots accents; but never never never refer to them as "pixies" -- it would be safer to call the Librarian a "monkey"). As with all the best books written for a "young people" audience, the book is immensely enjoyable by an intelligent adult. Even in its original, text-only version it was a great pleasure, and now that enjoyment is enhanced thanks to the vivid, evocative illustrations in this new edition. I suppose it is impossible for an illustrator to exactly match the visual impressions already held by a reader, but Stephen Player does a good job at capturing the spirit of the thing. In several cases, the illustrations are cleverly integrated into the text, not presented merely as decorations.

If a reader is new to Discworld, this would be a good introduction (some of the later Discworld novels in the main series benefit from a previous familiariy with that peculiar world, although it does not delve into elephants on the back of a giant, space-swimming turtles; but a couple of popular characters from the main Discworld novels are on hand). And for long-time Discworld fans, it is simply a delight.

Editorial Review:

There's trouble on the Aching farm: monsters in the river, headless horsemen in the lane—and Tiffany Aching's little brother has been stolen by the Queen of Fairies. Getting him back will require all of Tiffany's strength and determination (as well as a sturdy skillet) and the help of the rowdy clan of fightin', stealin' tiny blue-skinned pictsies known as the Wee Free Men!

Master storyteller and gifted comic Terry Pratchett is at his best in the adventures of Tiffany Aching and her tiny blue allies. Their first irresistible story comes to life in this lavishly illustrated edition, perfect for fans old and new.

Cute story 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

The title and the cover illustration told me it would be a quick read but I had the feeling I wouldn't enjoy it. It just seemed too cute. I decided to give it a read when I was stuck on a much harder book and needed a little fluff for my brain. By the bottom of the first page, I was in love with the book: "A 'nouncement is the school word for listen to me... and I MEAN it."

Barbara Park clearly understands how kids that age (four to six) think. So many of things that Junie B. says and thinks are things that could have come out of Sean's mouth or the mouths of his friends. I was laughing on almost every page.

As a parent of a child who is almost ready for kindergarten, I found this book about a Valentine's Day party very funny. Junie B's narration with all of the types of mistakes I've heard my son and his friends make made me laugh. The teacher's exasperation at some of the children's antics rings true too.

Editorial Review:

It's a mushy gushy mystery!

Hurray! February 14—Valentime's Day, as June B. calls it—is just around the corner. Junie B. can't wait to see all the valentimes she'll get. But she never expected a big, mushy card from a secret admirer! Who is this secret mystery guy, anyway? Junie B. is determined to find out!

Awesome Book!!!!!! 5 out of 5 stars.

I am a seven year old boy and I like to read Ricky Ricotta books. This book has something for everyone. There are lots of battles and robots for boys, and girls will like the unicorns from Uranus. The book has a lot of action and the flip-o-rama is cool. I read all the Ricky Ricotta books in less than a week because I liked them sooooooo much.

Editorial Review:

Ricky Ricotta loves his Mighty Robot, but sometimes it's hard for a little mouse to have a best friend who's so BIG. One night, Ricky makes a wish: If only his Mighty Robot had another friend who was his own size so he wouldn't have to hang out with Ricky all the time. Little does Ricky know, his wish is about to come true. Evil Uncle Unicorn has traveled all the way from Uranus with a mean and nasty plan. He's built a giant Ladybot to trick the Mighty Robot so he can take over planet Earth. Once again, it's up to Ricky and his pals to save the day.

Unfortunately, this isn't the full-sized book I remember from my childhood (it's a rather cheap imitation that probably won't hold up to multiple readings). But the pictures and story are still the wonderful ones I remember.

I absolutely LOVE this book! It's one of my childhood favorites, and I was excited to be able to replace it! The pictures are dream-like, and the book is great for introducing color concepts/words to young children. The book is so much fun; they'll read it over and over! I know I did! : D

Childhood Favorite! 5 out of 5 stars.

This little gem, written by Margaret Wise Brown (of Goodnight, Moon fame) the same year I was born, was read to me as a child, and it was a favorite of my own (now grown)children. The combination of her poetic prose and the wonderful original illustrations are transporting. I bought a bunch so I would be sure to have them on hand for shower gifts (I couldn't find them for the longest time.) A wonderful, wonderful book.

Junie B Jones has trouble being a beauty shop person 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

I read this book and I thought I'll never do that ever. But, other wise the book was funny, cute and had lots of advice. Here is some advice if you are older than thirteen. You can cut your own hair. I gave this book five stars because, it's like the book of the year! Junie B. Jones thinks with her springs in her hair that she is going to be like a total doofuss. But, the lady at the beaty shop helps her with her springs. She gets a whole new look! I love the book! IT'S THE BEST BOOK I HAD EVER READ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bad and Badder 1 out of 5 stars.
0 of 4 people found this review helpful.

Okay, I'll start with the good points.

1. good for little kids who know a lot of weird humor

2. sort of funny, even when you look back on it

3. nice, if you have a small kid, buy it.

now, the bad parts.

1. Junie B. Jones is retarded.

2. bad grammar

3. story is usually very boring unless you're small

Some people may think it's stupid, but this is a book for kids who have just learned to read chapter books. I DO NOT recommend it for kids over 7, but children under 7 will learn a lot from it. (including how not to cut their hair)

Editorial Review:

Junie B. Jones knows what she wants to be when she grows up -- a beauty

shop guy! All she needs is a little practice. Okay, a lot of practice. And a

few volunteers. Like her bunny slippers. And her dog. And maybe even...herself?

A Family Classic 5 out of 5 stars.
11 of 11 people found this review helpful.

This book was my husband's favorite book in the 60s when he was in elementary school. Now we read it to our children, along with many other Bill Peet books. We love the illustrations, plots and rhymes in Bill Peet's books. Buford is a sweet and innocent mountain goat dealing with a handicapping condition (oversized curling horns) that threatens his safety. Then when he's cornered he discovers a way to use his horns not only to escape the hunters, but to ski. And everyone at the ski resort loves him and makes him welcome. If you like this one, try Eli, Cowardly Clyde, and The Wump World.

Bill Peet Books are the Best! 5 out of 5 stars.

I remeber my dad reading these stories to me. They are all great! i recommend them for your kids. I enjoy them so much I ma buying them for myself, grown ups like them too! Sweet entertaining stories, great writing, great pictures. an A+

Buford is my FAVORITE Bighorn 5 out of 5 stars.
9 of 9 people found this review helpful.

These are my absolute favorite pictures from Bill Peet. Buford has trouble with his tribe due to being smaller than the other bighorns, but manages to find a way to be proud in spite of the opinions of others.

Editorial Review:

Buford's giant horns cause him all sorts of problems and even force him to leave his mountainside home, but eventually they make him a hero on the ski slopes.
