An awsome second part! 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

The first book was an awsome action and adventure packed story, and every aspect of the second book was even better. In my opinion this book is greater than any book I have ever seen. The authors books are some of my favorites over any other author I have seen. I would recommend this book to anyone, most books I would get rather bored with, but this one seems to catch my intrest.

Amazingly good! 5 out of 5 stars.

The main plot to the story is there is this boy, who in the previous book wound up stranded in the forest, then learned to survive in those conditions after a while. In the second book he wanted to return because he missed the woods and the way it felt to be in them. He never liked life as it was at his home, giving him more the reason to return. This was probobly the best book I have ever read, books by the same author are also just as good.

Editorial Review:

As millions of readers of Hatchet, The River, and Brian's Winter know, Brian Robeson survived alone in the wilderness by finding solutions to extraordinary challenges. But now that's he's back in civilization, he can't find a way to make sense of high school life. He feels disconnected, more isolated than he did alone in the North. The only answer is to return-to "go back in"-for only in the wilderness can Brian discover his true path in life, and where he belongs.

Okay But Not the Best 1 out of 5 stars.
4 of 4 people found this review helpful.

Having read other books by Gary Paulsen like Tracker, Woodsong, Dogsong, The Monument, The Island, Night John, and the Hatchet series, ect, I realized that The River is not one of Paulsen's best work. The River seemed a little unrealistic and it had a very basic polt, Brian has to go back to the Woods, something goes wrong, he takes a trip down a river to a trading station and gets rescued. Its all very predictable. The part that seems un realistic is the part where Derek gets struck by lightning and Brian happens not to have been hit, and the radio happens to break. Also building a raft can be harder than Paulson makes it sound.

But to all Gary Paulsen fans, don't stop reading Gary Paulsen books just because this book has lowish ratings. Hatchet is the most wellknown book by Gary Paulsen and many who have read Hatchet haven't read many of the other great books by Gary Paulsen. I remeber a few years ago when I was in fourth grade, The River was the second Gary Paulsen book I read, But I still decided to keep reading books by him. I read Night John when I was in fifth grade adn it still is my favorite book by Gary Paulson now. You may have noticed that I'm not Ralf Kiehl, I'm his daughter, a 13 year old kid, but I still really like to read Gary Paulson.

Amelia Bedelia is the BEST! 5 out of 5 stars.
7 of 7 people found this review helpful.

When I was a kid, I wore Merry Christmas Amelia Bedelia out! I probably couldn't tell you much about the plot, but anybody who's ever read an Amelia Bedelia book knows that it's all about her doing everything wrong! The only thing that sticks with me is the picture of Amelia stuffing the Christmas stockings with turkey stuffing, which to this day I find hilarious. I don't know what it is about this one particular story, maybe it's because it's the only Amelia Bedelia book I ever read, but I love it just the same. I my mind, it ranks up there with Charlotte's Web and Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory; it's just one of those funny, timeless books that fed my lifelong passion for reading and writing.

My Review of Merry Christmas Amelia Bedelia 5 out of 5 stars.

I think that this is a good book for little kids. It is fun for them to read. When little kids read this they always laugh at how Amelia always makes mistakes. She always seems to do something wrong.

An audiobook first! New York Times bestselling author Tamora Pierce has written the new novel in her popular Circle of Magic universe to go directly to audio--preceding the print version by at least a year.

Residents on one of the islands south of Emelan have sent a call for help to Winding Circle temple: Their plants and trees and the animals that live around them are mysteriously dying. From Winding Circle come two familiar figures: prickly green mage Rosethorn, whose plant magic will help her decipher what's ailing the plant life, and Briar's former student, the stone mage Evvy. With them comes the eager, nervous Dedicate Initiate Myrrhflower and Luvo, a being best described as a walking, intelligent rock. All are pulled into the island's mystery when Evvy is caught up by the wild spirits loose in an immense bubble of molten rock. Can they evacuate the island in time--or will they try to shift a volcano?

My Favorite Book 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

This was my favorite book in the world as a child. I read it over and over, beginning I think in the 3rd grade. It was deeply moving and probably shaped who I am today.

Excellent source to learn African American history in the 1930s 4 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

This is a great book! It is well written and the story line is very easy to follow. This book was one of three books that was required summer reading for my daughter's 6th grade class and she loved it as well. It gave her a different perspective on the different and most often times unfair treatment African American received during the 1930s. I strongly recommend this book to every young person to learn a few of life's lessons.

Editorial Review:

Winner of the 1977 Newbery Medal, this is a remarkably moving novel-one that has impressed the hearts and minds of millions of readers. Set in Mississippi at the height of the Depression, it is the story of one family's struggle to maintain their integrity, pride, and independence in the face of racism and social injustice. And, too, it is Cassie's story-Cassie Logan, an independent girl who discovers over the course of an important year why having land of their own is so crucial to the Logan family, even as she learns to draw strength from her own sense of dignity and self-respect.

Oh magic, how freakishly wonderful are thou...such possibilities! 4 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

I've been collecting the Discworld books in no particular order for a few years now, mostly because my father always had an affinity for them and recommended them as hilarious and entertaining at the same time. Now that I finally got to read the first in the series I can see what the fuss is all about! There is plenty of humor, dry wit and magic, extremely complex scientific and fantastic themes and myriad of characters brighter than all the rainbows and flowers in the world combined. My head was spinning after few pages but somehow I couldn't stop reading; this incredible journey that Pratchett invites the reader on takes some time to get adjusted to, but once I let my mind go and read it slow, it all melted into a fantasy like no other. I can't really imagine kids reading it unless they are prodigies at understanding language because their little brains might pop from the amount of information given; I know mine was taken for a spin a few times!

So here we are, visiting a world that exists as a flat disc with water walling over the edges, carried by four giant elephants standing on an ancient turtle, covered in meteor holes and all sorts of space debris, swimming who knows where....In one of it's cities, Ankh-Morpork , a failed wizard by the name of Rincewind comes across Twoflower, a traveling little man with magical luggage, carved out of rare sapient pear tree that follows him everywhere on its tiny feet. Yes walking luggage, with teeth too, guarding his master and providing lots of entertainment through out the story. The two men are the only ones in the whole city who speak the same language and thus their zany adventures start. Hastily hired as a guide the magician, who sucks at magic but it awfully funny and likable, gets into all sorts of troubles with trolls, dragons, islands with lunatics chased by Death itself without trying to loose poor Twoflower who thinks the whole adventure as a great sight seeing trip, they escape all sorts of scenarios that take them form the murkiest depths of underwater caves into far away galaxies in deep space.

Seems like a lot and it is, but the novel takes all sorts of turns ad twists and one never knows what awaits our heroes on the next page. When Gods play magic dice and Fate and Death are in talks of getting them, our characters have a lot at stake and loosing such charming little fellows would certainly be horrible so the reader is constantly kept on a tight leash as the beauty of the story and its intricate pattern morphs into more fantastic scenarios. I can't even clearly say what this book is about other than being simply fantastic, albeit very complex. Folklore, mythology, fairy tales, comedy and drama, it's all here exquisitely woven for those who dare.

Editorial Review:

Terry Pratchett's profoundly irreverent, bestselling novels have garnered him a revered position in the halls of parody next to the likes of Mark Twain, Kurt Vonnegut, Douglas Adams, and Carl Hiaasen.

The Color of MagicM is Terry Pratchett's maiden voyage through the now-legendary land of Discworld. This is where it all begins -- with the tourist Twoflower and his wizard guide, Rincewind.

For Kids, This Book is Great! 4 out of 5 stars.
4 of 4 people found this review helpful.

At first my seven year-old son, a devout Captain Underpants fan, was doubtful as to whether or not to get this book. He saw the so-so ratings on Amazon and didn't think he was going to enjoy it. But upon purchasing a used version of the book, he found he loved all the activities included.

Inside he found stickers, crossword puzzles, word finds, jokes, a comic: "The Bride of Harry Potty," and step-by-step instructions on how to draw the Captain Underpants characters. It runs about 96 pages, but it's chock full of fun.

Now, don't buy this expecting another Captain Underpants adventure; it's an activity book. If your child is looking for something to ease the wait for the next Captain Underpants book, give this a try.

Editorial Review:

You'll laugh! You'll cry! You'll wet your pants with joy when you read Dav Pilkey's All New Captain Underpants Extra-Crunchy Book O' Fun 2. Filled with crossword puzzles, word finds, mazes and more, this is one book o' fun that Captain Underpants fans can't do without! Learn how to draw your favorite characters, tell cheesy jokes, and even make your own silly Captain Underpants story. Best of all, you'll get a brand-new 56 page comic called "The Night of the Terror of the Revenge of the Curse of the Bride of Hairy Potty," featuring Captain Underpants, Super Diaper Baby, and Diaper Dog!

Reviewed by Olivia Alejandre (age 4) and Mom for Reader Views (1/08)

Mom's review / summary:

"The title of the book certainly gives it away, but once I read the book with Olivia, I appreciated it even more. I love the diversity of the differences presented, especially the ones related to feelings. Not many books talk about the range of feelings that kids experience - they tend to focus only on the sharing or anger ones. Anytime kids can understand that their feelings are normal and acceptable, I think it helps them cope with the world.

This book is best enjoyed with some conversation about each page. It helped Olivia when we talked through some examples of each type of difference. I think she'll remember some of the messages in the book because we spent time connecting those messages to her friends and life.

In addition to the important values taught, this book is fun and colorful - way to go!"

Some quotes from Olivia / discussion with Mommy about "It's Okay to be Different" -

"Look at that baby with missing teeth! It's OK to have a lot of teeth missing."

"That elephant has a very long trunk."

"That's a funny zebra with colors."

[Mom]: "Do you know what that is? (the wheelchair)"
"It helps you when you can't walk."

"What's that? (the invisible friend)"
[Mom]: "That's an invisible friend. It's a pretend friend."

"That's a funny skunk that got mad."

"Mommy, that's a tall ice cream thing."

"Both of them have a lot of nuts."

[Mom]: "Are people the same or different?"
"Different."

[Mom]: "Is that good or bad?"
"Good."

My children and I audio read this trilogy 10 years ago. My oldest who turned 22 yrs old in October requested it as a birthday present. The narration is wonderful. Pullman's trilogy is a classic gift to literature.

Excellent! 5 out of 5 stars.

What a fabulous book! Definitely my favorite of the trilogy. So well written and intricate. The ending was bittersweet, but made a lot of sense. It left you hoping for a 4th book or an epilogue of the future.

Editorial Review:

In the astonishing finale to the His Dark Materials trilogy, Lyra and Will are in unspeakable danger. With help from Iorek Byrnison the armored bear and two tiny Gallivespian spies, they must journey to a dank and gray-lit world where no living soul has ever gone. All the while, Dr. Mary Malone builds a magnificent Amber Spyglass. An assassin hunts her down, and Lord Asriel, with a troop of shining angels, fights his mighty rebellion, in a battle of strange allies—and shocking sacrifice.

As war rages and Dust drains from the sky, the fate of the living—and the dead—finally comes to depend on two children and the simple truth of one simple story.

a little too much info on the tooth fairy 3 out of 5 stars.
1 of 3 people found this review helpful.

My daughter loves the Junie B series. Yes her grammer isn't correct, but that is what makes it funny. Only thing I didn't like about this book was as my 6 year old was reading it she started asking questions about the tooth fairy, especially when Junie B. said it wasn't real. I would have parents preview this book before giving it to their child. I took this one away for a while.

tooth book 5 out of 5 stars.

This was great!! My daughter absolutely loves these books. She is only 8 yrs old, but will sit for hours reading them. How many kids ask for books for Christmas!! We got her the 1st and 2nd box sets, along with the toothless wonder one since she is about to loose her front teeth. She skipped the others and read this one first. Now she is back to the box sets!

Editorial Review:

Yikes . . . It’s a looth tooth!

One of Junie B. Jones’s top front teeth is loose! Only Junie B. is not that thrilled about this development. Because what if she looks like toothless Uncle Lou? And even worse . . . what’s all this tooth fairy business? Like, who is this woman, really? And what does she do with all those used teeth? So many questions, so little time.
