Classic experience 5 out of 5 stars.

My children and I audio read this trilogy 10 years ago. My oldest who turned 22 yrs old in October requested it as a birthday present. The narration is wonderful. Pullman's trilogy is a classic gift to literature.

Excellent! 5 out of 5 stars.

What a fabulous book! Definitely my favorite of the trilogy. So well written and intricate. The ending was bittersweet, but made a lot of sense. It left you hoping for a 4th book or an epilogue of the future.

Editorial Review:

In the astonishing finale to the His Dark Materials trilogy, Lyra and Will are in unspeakable danger. With help from Iorek Byrnison the armored bear and two tiny Gallivespian spies, they must journey to a dank and gray-lit world where no living soul has ever gone. All the while, Dr. Mary Malone builds a magnificent Amber Spyglass. An assassin hunts her down, and Lord Asriel, with a troop of shining angels, fights his mighty rebellion, in a battle of strange allies—and shocking sacrifice.

As war rages and Dust drains from the sky, the fate of the living—and the dead—finally comes to depend on two children and the simple truth of one simple story.

a little too much info on the tooth fairy 3 out of 5 stars.
1 of 3 people found this review helpful.

My daughter loves the Junie B series. Yes her grammer isn't correct, but that is what makes it funny. Only thing I didn't like about this book was as my 6 year old was reading it she started asking questions about the tooth fairy, especially when Junie B. said it wasn't real. I would have parents preview this book before giving it to their child. I took this one away for a while.

tooth book 5 out of 5 stars.

This was great!! My daughter absolutely loves these books. She is only 8 yrs old, but will sit for hours reading them. How many kids ask for books for Christmas!! We got her the 1st and 2nd box sets, along with the toothless wonder one since she is about to loose her front teeth. She skipped the others and read this one first. Now she is back to the box sets!

Editorial Review:

Yikes . . . It’s a looth tooth!

One of Junie B. Jones’s top front teeth is loose! Only Junie B. is not that thrilled about this development. Because what if she looks like toothless Uncle Lou? And even worse . . . what’s all this tooth fairy business? Like, who is this woman, really? And what does she do with all those used teeth? So many questions, so little time.

My daughter loves this book and all the pics in it. She's a little young to write in it herself well (only 5) but she can't wait until she gets to fill it in with her details. Nice hard cover book too!

I loved when dumpty dangerous turned into poop. I read it every time I went to hockey practice. There is a lot of action in this book. You better check it out :)

my son reads these over and over 4 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I would recommend this book because it is clever and funny. There is a bit of bathroom humor but my son loves that and it keeps him reading. It is a trade off I am willing to make.

Editorial Review:

Oh, no! It's not enough that George and Harold have invented Captain Underpants, the greatest superhero of all time, and that they've also saved the world FIVE times! They defeated Dr. Diaper! They punished Professor Poopypants! And they whacked the wicked Wedgie Woman! What task could be worse?!!? This one: As punishment, the boys have to write a 100-page report on "good citizenship," and they have been specifically ordered NOT to write another comic about Captain Underpants. So what do they do? Aha! Meet Super Diaper Baby--the most powerful peewee to pack a punch. With Pilkey's typical over-the-edge humor, Super Diaper Baby will have kids laughing until soda comes out their noses.

Boring. 2 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I wonder if Pullman actually knew what he was getting into when he started this fantasy trilogy. This book goes absolutely nowhere, and it was difficult to finish. I couldn't care less for any of the characters, and I really hope they don't make a movie out of it.

Overhyped fantasy 2 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I actually liked this better than "The Golden Compass". Pullman still continues to show creativity, even more in this one. Who doesn't like the idea of kids pulling themselves through different dimensions?

I also like the introduction of Will--it's good to see a champion from our own dimension.

Sadly, the characters are rather flat and stereotypical, and it seems to me that the only evidence for any of their personalities is what the author unsubtly writes in. I've never liked to be forced into liking a character, and we just aren't given much reason for care for these rather one-dimensional characters.

Still, it's the absolute creativity and thought that makes these books work.

Editorial Review:

Lyra finds herself in a shimmering, haunted underworld—Cittàgazze, where soul-eating Specters stalk the streets and wingbeats of distant angels sound against the sky. But she is not without allies: 12-year-old Will Parry, fleeing for his life after taking another’s, has also stumbled into this strange new realm.

On a perilous journey from world to world, Lyra and Will discover an object of devastating power. And with every step, they move closer to an even greater threat—and the shattering truth of their own destiny.

We have many of the Junie B. Jones Books in paperback. My son started reading them in Kindergarten. He is now 11 and yes, he still enjoys reading about the wild adventures of Junie B. My daughter is 7 and she thinks Junie B. should be a role model! Just kidding. We all do seriously love that girl I tell ya!

The product is great. It is Amazon that was the problem. I have contacted you before to try to resolve the problem, with no response.
You charged me an inflated rate, when I asked for the "free shipping" rate.
I will not use Amazon for any more purchases.

Great Books!!! My 6 year old kindergartener loves them. Junie B. reminds my of the Ramona Quinbee books I grew up reading in the 1980's. We just bought another set.

More wholesome than Capt Underpants 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

We love Dave Pilkey - and this is a kinder and gentler series of book compared to Capt. Underpants. If Capt Underpants was just a bit too "potty humor" for you, or the reading level was a tad above your child - then Ricky Ricotta is right up your alley. The stories are not so "potty" oriented, and thus a bit more wholesome. The word selection is a bit easier and the chapters a bit shorter than Capt Underpants, so it is a good choice for the early chapter book reader. The stories are not exactly fascinating to me, but they are funny enough, and with enough "action" to keep the interest of my 7 year old son. I think this is most appropriate for 1st-2nd grade. The next step up in difficulty would be Capt. Underpants.

Editorial Review:

Enter a galaxy of fun and discover how Ricky befriends the Mighty Robot for the first time, before battling such sinister spacemonsters as Mercurian Mosquitoes, Vultures from Venus, and Martian Mecha-Monkeys! Each early chapter book has action-packed Flip-O-Rama and instructions on how to draw each character! Also includes a cool sticker sheet featuring Ricky, his Robot, and all the bad guys! It's a collection that's truly out of this world! "Pilkey fans, science-fiction aficionados, and reluctant readers won't want to miss [this series]."--SLJ

Searching for help 5 out of 5 stars.
4 of 4 people found this review helpful.

My partner and I were looking for some books for our young nephew that would help him understand that families are defined by love and caring; not gender sex which some seem to obsess over. As accepting and inclusive as our families have been over the last 25 years of our relationship, American society's exclusion of LGBT people from the mainstream has denied a complete and accurate view of the world for our kids. Without being in your face, this book opens the definition of family to include everyone, including my nephew's two uncles who he loves very much.

Editorial Review:

There are so many different types of families, and THE FAMILY BOOK celebrates them all in a funny, silly, and reassuring way. Parr includes adopted families, step-families, one-parent families, and families with two parents of the same sex, as well as the traditional nuclear family. His quirky humor and bright, childlike illustrations will make children feel good about their families. Parents and teachers can use this book to encourage children to talk about their families and the different kinds of families that exist.

Pratchett does it again!! 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

The witches of Discworld are identified by their practicality and ability to manipulate people. They believe in using as little magic as possible, and Tiffany Aching is no exception. This entry in the Discworld pantheon follows Tiffany dealing with the loss of her magical Grandmother, an invasion from the realm of faerie, becoming kelda of the Nac Mac Feegle, and rescuing her little brother from the evils of the faerie.

Terry Pratchett has ever been a favorite author of mine, and I've converted many family and friends to his work. But "The Wee Free Men" has taken him too new heights of reader entertainment. The adventure of Tiffany Aching is a beautiful combination of magical machinations and practical solutions. When your main weapon against the forces of darkness is a frying pan, hilarity must ensue. Toss on the pictsies in the form of the Nac Mac Feegle, who are less pixie and more scottish Pict, (a historically implacable foe and epitome of barbaric Scotland), and the fun just keeps on rolling.

In all, I heartily recommend this book for younger readers and old alike. The common, earthy european humor of Pratchett's other novels is left out of this one, which makes it all the more kid friendly.

Editorial Review:

A nightmarish danger threatens from the other side of reality . . .

Armed with only a frying pan and her common sense, young witch-to-be Tiffany Aching must defend her home against the monsters of Fairyland. Luckily she has some very unusual help: the local Nac Mac Feegle—aka the Wee Free Men—a clan of fierce, sheep-stealing, sword-wielding, six-inch-high blue men.

Together they must face headless horsemen, ferocious grimhounds, terrifying dreams come true, and ultimately the sinister Queen of the Elves herself. . . .

Editorial Review:

In this new prequel episode from Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials universe, Lee Scoresby--Texan aeronaut and future friend to Lyra Belacqua--is just 24 years old, and he's recently won his hot-air balloon in a poker game. He finds himself floating North to the windswept Arctic island of Novy Odense, where he and his hare daemon Hester are quickly tangled in a deadly plot involving oil magnate Larsen Manganese, corrupt mayoral candidate Ivan Poliakov, and Lee's longtime nemesis from the Dakota Country: Pierre McConville, a hired killer with at least twenty murders to his name.

It's only after Lee forms an alliance with one of the island's reviled armored bears that he can fight to break up the conspiracy in a gun-twirling classic western shoot out--and battle of wits. This exquisite clothbound volume features the illustrations of John Lawrence, a removable board game—Peril of the Pole—on the inside back cover, and a glimpse for Pullman fans into the first friendship of two of the most beloved characters in the His Dark Materials trilogy: Lee Scoresby and armored bear Iorek Byrnison.
