Editorial Review:

This is a story about darkness and light, about sorrow and joy, about something lost and something found. This is a story about Love.

Cinderella's story has been told over and over, but never has it been touched by the kind of magic found in this book. Mary Blair painted the original pictures for Walt Disney's incomparable animated film, and here her elegant art is gathered together as a picture book for the first time. Cynthia Rylant's stories about hardscrabble lives have won not only awards and honors, but hearts. Who better to take a young girl from the darkness of her garret room to the light and brilliance of a ballroom?

Together these two great artists have created something quite astonishing: a Cinderella that is breathtaking, heartrending, and joyous, both for those who are coming to the tale for the very first time, and for those who think they know it well.

Just the right amount of mystery and intrigue! 5 out of 5 stars.
7 of 8 people found this review helpful.

Dink, Josh, and Ruth Rose visit an old castle on the coast of Maine and set out to discover what is making the screeching sounds which everyone believes to be a ghost! Along the way they run into flickering lights after dark, a secret underground passage and a dangerous, water-filled cave.

My 5-year old kept flipping back to study the map and wouldn't let me stop!

Excellent! 5 out of 5 stars.

This book is very good! In this book, Dink, Josh, and Ruth Rose visit Wallis Wallice in Maine. Dink, Josh and Ruth Rose go lobstering, have a picnic, find a cave, and something else.

Book Review 3 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I think this book should get an average grade ("C"). I think this because, when I read the book, it didn't have me thinking what was going to happen next. I think this book is too obvious for me. But for the people who like to know what's going to happen, they would like this book. I think this book is more for kids who have their parents read to them. I give this book a "C". In the book, Dink, Josh, and Ruth Rose go on a trip to a castle. They are all exited, but then, Ruth Rose discovers a Dungeon filled with dead animals. Through out the story, the three smart children try to figure what it is from. The rest is for the reader to figure out.

Editorial Review:

Dink's favorite mystery writer, Wallis Wallace, has invited Dink, Josh, and Ruth Rose for a sleepover - in a haunted castle! But as soon as the young detectives arrive, they start hearing screams behind the walls. Will they discover who - or what - is haunting Moose Manor?

never too old for a party 4 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

Mr. Putter really wants to have a party for his birthday but he thinks that he is too old. He waits and waits for his friend from next door to come over with a surprise! When she arrives he finds that his birthday wish has come true. She brought cake, balloons and a gift! Happy Birthday Mr. Putter!

The cartoon- like illustrations in the book are really funny. Tabby is a cute kitty that always has a cute expression on her face.

This is a great book for early readers. There are pictures on every page and only a few sentences to each page as well.

Another wonderful Mr. Putter and Tabby 5 out of 5 stars.

Mr. Putter decides he wants to celebrate his birthday in spite of being "too old" to do so. The humor comes to you through the story and the drawings.

Editorial Review:

Mr. Putter is sure he is too old for birthday celebrations. And that means he's also too old for model planes and balloons and candles and cake. So on his special day, he invites Mrs. Teaberry and Zeke over for a quiet cup of tea. But--good heavens!--what could possibly be taking them so long to arrive?

A nice change-of-pace Christmas story 5 out of 5 stars.
4 of 4 people found this review helpful.

A delightful Christmas story that emphasizes giving of oneself and pokes a little fun at commercialism. Mr. Putter is as "light and airy" (or light and HAIRY as my five-year-old points out in chapter 4) as ever. Mr. Putter teaches us that we are never too old to learn!

A Wonderful Christmas Story - Mr. Putter and Tabby Style! 5 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

The Mr. Putter and Tabby series are the sort of books that I would have loved to have when I was a beginning reader. I know that I would have read them over and over again to no end, even once they began to fall apart from constant use. That's why I am so glad that Mr. Putter and Tabby are around now while my youngest brother is learning to read. The non-repetitious (words are repeated, but not enough to become explicit), non-rhyming storytelling contained within the books makes them a pleasure to read continually, unlike many other easy-reader books. And in my opinion, the Mr. Putter and Tabby books are a step in front of Ms. Rylant's Henry and Mudge collection, due to the fact that, in their own way, they create an appreciation for the elderly as the reader comes to love Mr. Putter, the aging main character whose only companion is his cat, Tabby.

In Mr. Putter and Tabby Bake the Cake, Christmas is soon approaching, and Mr. Putter must decide what to give Mrs. Teaberry, his fruit-cake-loving next-door neighbor. Mr. Putter does not understand how anyone could enjoy a fruit cake, and so he sets out to make Mrs. Teaberry a "light and airy" cake for Christmas, one that "could not break her toe if she dropped it." Young readers will follow along with Mr. Putter and his good cat Tabby as they try to make Mrs. Teaberry's cake, from start to finish. Mishap prevails, leaving you to wonder if they will ever get through in time. It all adds up to a cheery Christmas story about giving and the saying, "It's the thought that counts!"

Mr. Howard's cartoon-style illustrations greatly enhance this wonderful story, which is written in such a format to be used as either a 3-chapter book for the beginning reader, or a bedtime story that is longer in length. Either way, the Mr. Putter and Tabby books would be a great find for emerging readers' shelves. Like having a kindly old grandpa next door, they only make life richer!

Editorial Review:

Mr. Putter and his beloved cat bake a light and airy Christmas cake for their neighbor Mrs. Teaberry. “Howard’s relaxed, mixed-media pictures catch the nuances of the cozy, affectionate relationship between an old man and a cat with all the right moves.”--Booklist

fun and feminine 5 out of 5 stars.
6 of 6 people found this review helpful.

My daughter loves these books! They are filled with warm, happy relationships, fun craft projects and girlish adventures she can relate too. Junie B. Jones is a lot of fun, but my daughter is a softer, gentler person, and these gentle books fill her imagination. She loves to imagine herself in the attic with Tess.

fabulously written, very appropriate content for younger readers! 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

My daughter is nearly five and reads these on her own, so it's very important to me that the content is appropriate for her to read without parental guidence. Not only is this entire series content appropriate, they are wonderfully written! My daughter simply could not stop reading until we finished the entire series. These books may be read out of order, though it's best to read book 1 first and book 6 last. The others could be jumbled and read in any order. :) The other day I asked my daughter what she wanted for her birthday, and she said she'd like another "cobble street cousin" book for every day of the year. I wish Cynthia Ryland had written as many. They are truly little gems of literature!

Meet The

COBBLE STREET COUSINS

  • Lily, who wants to be a poet
  • Tess, who wants to be a Broadway star
  • Rosie, who wants a little cottage with flowers by the door

Lily has a wonderful idea -- to surprise Aunt Lucy with a dollhouse that looks just like her flower shop. But first the girls have to buy a few things at The Olde Craft Shoppe, and with the Cobble Street Cousins, even a little shopping trip can turn into an adventure!

Courtesy of Teens Read Too 4 out of 5 stars.

She's baaaaack!

The one and only, the fabbity of the fab Georgia Nicolson is back, this time with problems that she thought she had already solved. We all thought that Georgia's heartbreaker days were over but, unfortunately, they just keep on coming. Now, too many of the boys from her past are looking irresistible and sending those mixed messages that could be about love (or at least that's what Georgia thinks).

After having to be the only one in the ace gang without a significant other, Georgia finally got what she wanted -- Massimo finally confessed his love to her. Sure, that's just great, but now her first love, the Sex God, is making his way back into her life, and she just doesn't know what to do (aside from getting the best out of the problem).

If only she could go to someone to talk to, like Dave the Laugh, except that would only add more to her troubles and then make it three against one.

Aside from her boy troubles, though, Georgia's life is still the same, what with her annoying Mutti and Vati always bugging her and Libby, who is beginning to be even more of a pest, just like Angus, and friends who don't seem to understand anything AT ALL! What's a girl to do? Let life take its course, instead of fate, and eat some fab cake on the way!

Funnier then ever, LOVE IS A MANY TROUSERED THING is just another hilarious novel in the Georgia Nicolson series. After reading this, I just wonder, how much more trouble can Georgia get into? Fans of the series will want to read this installment right after licking their lips at the cupcakes on the cover.

Editorial Review:

After queuing up at the cakeshop of luuurve for ages, I have accidentally bought two cakes.

And I am sitting in a bush.

Georgia thought her heartbreak-osity troubles were over when Masimo announced that he wanted to be her one and only. But just as she hits Swoon City, Robbie, the original Sex God, shows up. How in the world has Georgia accidentally acquired two Sex Gods?

Before Georgia can decide what to do next, she must figure out what Robbie's intentions are—and if his sudden re-appearance changes her mind about Masimo. And as much as she wants to turn to Dave the Laugh for help, he's another romantic thorn (and prospective snoggee) in her side. Will Georgia ever get off the rack of love once and for all?

As always, Poppleton is a joy to read 5 out of 5 stars.
4 of 4 people found this review helpful.

This latest book of Poppleton is just as sweet and gentle as the others, and it is easy reading for my 2nd grader. You can't go wrong with this book. "The Bust" chapter is the funniest with Cherry Sue, in which Poppleton wants to sculpt a bust of Cherry Sue, but can't remember what she looks like. "The Icicles" chapter in which he meets a clumsy little finch, Patrick, and the "Sleigh Ride" are also good-natured stories that bring the feel of winter to the reader which is perfect for the upcoming snowy season.

Editorial Review:

In this easy-to-read chapter book, Poppleton the pig charms young readers with his quirky adventures and whimsical ideas! Poppleton grows an icicle garden and ends up with an icicle fence instead. He sculpts a bust of Cherry Sue without explaining his constant visits just to look at her face. And he wonders why he can't find a friend to go on a sleigh ride with. No one can go, because they're all preparing Poppleton's birthday party!

These hilarious stories feature simple language, everyday experiences, and beautiful illustrations--perfect for beginning readers!

Praise for the POPPLETON series:

"A wonderful, easy-to-read chapter book that will leave children laughing out loud." --School Library Journal

"Roundly appealing." --Publishers Weekly, starred review

"A perfect choice for beginning readers." --Booklist

It is what it is - too funny! 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

Oh, how clever Louise Rennison is. This hilarious novel reminds me a bit of a stand-up comedian's routine with a plot - of sorts. English teenager, Georgia, (the main character) has her own combination of slang and made up alterations of words that take a bit of getting used to at first. But her descriptions of events, friends, her own family, and life in general are so fast, funny, and furious, I could hardly stop laughing. Of course, it's all very silly, and Georgia comes across as perhaps a little to obsessed with snogging boys, or a bit too dim-witted at times, but then maybe not. In any event, if you like novels that are clearly intended to make you laugh, and you aren't looking for any deep messages except that there is always humor to be found in the strange and sometimes unbelieveably wacky things teenagers do, then this book is for you. Highly recommended for kids over 13 and anyone else who enjoys a good laugh.

The book is also set in winter, many kids favorite time of the year. Although my favorite A to Z Mystery book is The Absent Author, I think this one is pretty good, and I think you'll like it too.
