Editorial Review:

The New York Times bestselling spin-off series to the #1 bestselling Gossip Girl is set in an elite East Coast boarding school and features favorite Gossip Girl character Jenny Humphrey.

Having a roommate at elite Waverly Academy means nightly sleepovers and double the designer wardrobe. But Callie Vernon never really liked late-night girl talk or swapping cashmere sweaters with her younger, rosy-cheeked roomie, Jenny Humphrey. So when Jenny stole her longtime boyfriend, Easy Walsh, Callie didn?t feel that guilty about turning right around and kissing him behind Jenny?s back. Okay, maybe a little guilty, but it certainly didn?t stop her from enjoying it. Now, if only Easy would stop being so irritatingly indecisive and dump Jenny already!

While the two roommates are sharing a boyfriend, the rest of Dumbarton?s residents are sharing their feelings at the newly founded Women of Waverly club?aka, WOW! Everyone is totally bonding, revealing their most personal secrets, and hugging out their past rivalries. But despite the sharing-is-caring vibe, there are some things these girls aren?t spilling?like who?s making special late-night trips to the crater . . . and with whom.

Now it?s only a matter of time before all the newfound girl power explodes into a massive girl fight. But this battle goes well beyond the ivy colored brick walls of Dumberton?it?s about who will be Waverly?s next It Girl.

Interesting perspective 4 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

I am a teacher who works with small groups in our school. One of the things I try to do is help kids look at things from different points of view. This story is told from the point of view of the ants, which is, of course, very different from the human point of view. Some parts of the books should definitely be discussed, because it may not be obvious to children that a forest could be blades of grass or that hot brown bitter liquid could be coffee. Follow-up activities might include students drawing their own pictures from an insect's view point, or writing a story about a small creature's adventures.

Awesome Ants! 5 out of 5 stars.

This book is so, so, so cool! We loved this book very much. We could read it over and over again. It can make a very good gift for someone who loves books. I highly recommend this book for all ages. It has very very good illustrations. This book is really really awesome! It is funny, you would think it would be boring because it is called "Two Bad Ants" but after you start to look at the cool pictures and read more about it, you will think it is really cool, too! It is about two ants who are so close to being eaten but escape. I hope you will enjoy the book. If you buy it I think you will like it a lot. -KM & SS

The three-time Caldecott medalist tells the tale of two ants who decide to leave the safety of the others to venture into a danger-laden kitchen.

Review of Alexander.... 4 out of 5 stars.
11 of 14 people found this review helpful.

Overall, this was an excellent book. It does not differ much from the english version, and it is, as is the english, wonderfully illustrated. It is not perfect, however. I thought that it was well translated into spanish, however, the words are not as easily read and understood as the english version. Also, it was very disappointing to me that the character's names are the traditional, english names, and were not translated into their spanish cognates. That detracts from any feelings of non-ethnicity and partiality that good literature nees.

ME VOY A AUSTRALIA ! 5 out of 5 stars.
8 of 10 people found this review helpful.

Qué dice un niño al que TODO le sale mal ? "Me voy a Australia !". Los dibujos - en blanco y negro - están espléndidamente ilustrados, la cara de Alexander es indescriptible por su picardía. Un libro para leer y ver con los hijos a la hora de dormir. Un libro alentador, especial para aquellos niños "difíciles"

Great addition to your library in Spanish 5 out of 5 stars.
6 of 8 people found this review helpful.

This is a great book for those of us who want to raise our children bilingually and equally wonderful for Spanish-speakers. The Spanish is fun--I also love the repetition of "el día terrible, horrible..." The fact that the names are not translated is fine--not all English names have a Spanish translation and vice-versa. I believe it keeps the integrity of the original version and the Alexander character.

Notorious 5 out of 5 stars.
3 of 5 people found this review helpful.

I got immediately got addicted to the It Girl series when I was at a book store and randomly decided It Girl looked like a good book to read so I picked that one out and ended up falling in love with the series.
The book Notorious is one of the best books I have ever read, it's such a page turner you never want to stop reading it, I swear it's impossible. The main plot of the book is when a girl Tinsley Carmichael returns to Waverly Academy and elite boarding school after being expelled the semester before. Tinsley just happened to be best friends with her former roommates Brett and Callie. Jenny Humphrey then took Tinsley's spot and Waverly and ended up rooming in Dumbarton 303 with Brett and Callie. All this drama between the four girls and their secrets, lies, and just being teenage girls causes hatred.
I would recommend this book to anyone that loves drama and gossip but doesn't want to get involved in it in reality. When you read this book you can visualize everything and put yourself in their shoes and not worry about your real life. Teenage girls with LOVE this book!

Editorial Review:

Popular Gossip Girl character Jenny Humphrey is making a splash at Waverly Academy, an elite boarding school in New York horse country where glamorous rich kids don't let the rules get in the way of an excellent time. It's less than a week into school, but Jenny's already been caught with her roommate's boyfriend (in bed!), flashed the whole school at a field hockey game, and gone up against the Disciplinary Committee. She's become notorious, just like Tinsley Carmichael, Waverly's former It Girl, who was expelled last year and is rumored to be jet-setting around the world. So what happens when Tinsley arrives back on campus and moves in with Jenny? After all, there can only be one It Girl.

Do you hear me? 4 out of 5 stars.
7 of 7 people found this review helpful.

This is a continuation of the Alexander books. We should all have read about his terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day already. I also use this book in my classroom and have found that while the kids do like to hear another story about this adorable little boy, this story just doesn't click with them. The success of Alexander's other stories came from the way kids were able to relate to his situation. This book just doesn't have that.

What it does have though is a wonderfully planned out story and some good imitations of Ray Cruz's original depictions of Alexander. Again, things just aren't going Alexander's way and his imagination begins to spin ways he can keep from moving with his family. He learns his brothers and parents are much more understanding of his situation than he first thought however.

Why 4 stars?:
This book still deserves a place in your library, however it can't compare to the terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day. Still, children will enjoy hearing another story about Alexander and if any of them have moved or are moving, they will get even something more out of this cute story.

Editorial Review:

Alexander is not going to leave his best friend Paul. Or Rachel, the best babysitter in the world. Or the Baldwins, who have a terrific dog named Swoozie. Or Mr. and Mrs. Oberdorfer, who always give great treats on Halloween. Who cares if his father has a new job a thousand miles away? Alexander is not -- Do you hear him? He Means it! -- going to move.

Alexander's back, facing another of childhood's trials and tribulations with Judith Viorst's trademark humor and keen sense of what's important to kids.

SOME OF THE AUTHOR'S BEST WORK 5 out of 5 stars.
6 of 6 people found this review helpful.

I did indeed love this one. The art work, per usual, for this author, was absolutely perfect. It is the type of work that can appeal to children as well as adults (I'm well into my sixties, and I enjoyed it...of course I have a lot of little boy in me still). As to the narrative, I did feel this was one of the author's better works. Allsburg is certainly a teller of good stories. I have observed this work being read to the children at our local library and it is one of their favorites. Again, the art work is almost magical, quite detailed and rather amazing to view. Recommend this one highly.

Great story for kids! 5 out of 5 stars.

I am 7 years old and my mom and I read this together.
This is a story about a broom that still has magic left in it. My favorite part of the story is how the lady tricks the neighbor into thinking that the broom they killed was a ghost!

Great Story 5 out of 5 stars.

A widow obtains an old witch's broom it still has some magic in it. The neighbors are not very accommodating but the Widow is crafty. My 8 year old son really enjoyed this book. It would also be good for Halloween reading. It is recommended for ages 5-7 years.

Learning 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

This book is really good, i love it. I learned to let go and grow up from this well-written story by Cynthia. I also liked how Dicey took care of her brothers and sister with love when her mother died.I would introduce this book to people, I think they will like it too.

Finally finding a real home... 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

Abandoned by their mentally-ill mother, the four Tillerman siblings have - against all odds - located the grandmother who didn't even know they existed. They've persuaded her to let them stay with her in Maryland, and they're finally beginning to make a home together as family.

But 13-year-old Dicey finds it hard to let go. She's been taking care of her younger sister and brothers all her life, and suddenly she's being told to live her own life. Nonetheless, Dicey gives it her best try, finding new friends Mina and Jeff, taking on a part-time job at Millie's grocery store, and standing up against an unfair teacher.

Then, just as Dicey is beginning to accept and enjoy her new life, she learns that her mother has been found...

Editorial Review:

Now that the four abandoned Tillerman children are settled in with their grandmother, Dicey finds that their new beginnings require love, trust, humor, and courage.

Not for those who believe in Heaven 1 out of 5 stars.
1 of 4 people found this review helpful.

This book has SO much promise- it's fundamental storyline is beautiful and realistic for those who are grieving and having a funeral for a pet. However, this book takes a horrible detour when the young boy who's pet died and his friend return to the kitchen after the funeral for cookies and begin to argue if the cat is in heaven or just in the ground. The father enters in and states 'We don't know too much about heaven'... 'we can't be absolutely sure that it's there' and the frustrated little neighbor girl defends heaven one last time and goes home. As a parent dealing with the grief of losing a pet, the one firm anchor for us was that our cat's spirit has gone to Heaven and is happy and joyful alongside God and Jesus and those people and pets who have died before him. We are just putting his body into the ground- from which it will provide strength and nourishment to the living things around it. The book does cover that point nicely (I know some reviewers have found this issue unsettling- but for us this is a nice feeling to know that the 'fur and bones' of our cat that were left behind in this world will be helping the new tree we planted to grow and flourish).

Editorial Review:

My cat Barney died this Friday. I was very sad. My mother said we could have a funeral for him, and I should think of ten good things about Barney so I could tell them...

But the small boy who loved Barney can only think of nine. Later, while talking with his father, he discovers the tenth -- and begins to understand.

An educational, magical children's book 5 out of 5 stars.
4 of 4 people found this review helpful.

When I read this book a tear came to my eye. I knew Chris Van Allsburg was right about recycling and keeping the earth clean. If there are parents that have kids that actually like to keep the earth clean, I suggest they read it to their kids!

Trieu, Steven and Jang Yi's review 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

Just a Dream is a wonderful book because it teaches a lesson and the lesson is to take care of the earth by recycling your trash. You should read this book to learn why it's important to protect the environment. Even one person can make a difference. If I could pick from any book that I already read, I would pick this book as the best one. The author had an awesome idea for writing. He taught a lesson but put it in words that made me want to keep reading. It has colorful pictures that really stand out. I would recommend this book to anyone.

I love Chris VanAllsburg 3 out of 5 stars.

This book has a great message, but it seems a little more forced than some of his other titles. All of his books are great for teaching children to infer meaning from text!

Editorial Review:

Young Walter litters and refuses to sort trash for recycling, until he dreams of an overcrowded and polluted future which terrifies him into taking care of the earth.
