Editorial Review:

For the first time in the history of the Little House books, this new edition features Garth Williams’ interior art in vibrant, full color, as well as a beautifully redesigned cover.

Laura Ingalls's story begins in 1871 in a little log cabin on the edge of the Big Woods of Wisconsin. Four-year-old Laura lives in the little house with her Pa, her Ma, her sisters Mary and Carrie, and their trusty dog, Jack.

Pioneer life is sometimes hard, since the family must grow or catch all their own food as they get ready for the cold winter. But it is also exciting as Laura and her folks celebrate Christmas with homemade toys and treats, do the spring planting, bring in the harvest, and make their first trip into town. And every night they are safe and warm in their little house, with the happy sound of Pa's fiddle sending Laura and her sisters off to sleep.

And so begins Laura Ingalls Wilder's beloved story of a pioneer girl and her family. The nine Little House books have been cherished by generations of readers as both a unique glimpse into America's frontier past and a heartwarming, unforgettable story.

farmer boy 4 out of 5 stars.

When I read this book, I got interest for pioneer life. I get suprised, because he, Almannzo, do all of his work and helps his family. And he went school that is far away from his house in snow days and in hot summer. I also impressed that his toy is the sled that made out from tree, and it is all hand maded. Today we usualy uses sled, but we don't use sled that are made out of trees. I thought he lead a full life solid. I don't want to live back that time, but I want to play with Almanzo and I want to ask more about his life in farm.

Editorial Review:

For the first time in the history of the Little House books, this new edition features Garth Williams’ interior art in vibrant, full color, as well as beautifully redesigned covers.

While Laura Ingalls grows up in a little house on the western prairie, Almanzo Wilder is living on a big farm in New York State. Here Almanzo and his brother and sisters help with the summer planting and fall harvest. In winter there is wood to be chopped and great slabs of ice to be cut from the river and stored. Time for fun comes when the jolly tin peddler visits, or best of all, when the fair comes to town.

This is Laura Ingalls Wilder's beloved story of how her husband Almanzo grew up as a farmer boy far from the little house where Laura lived.

For the first time in the history of the Little House books, this new edition features Garth Williams’ interior art in vibrant, full color, as well as a beautifully redesigned cover.

The adventures of Laura Ingalls and her family continue as Pa, Ma, Laura, Mary, Carrie, and little Grace bravely face the hard winter of 1880-81 in their little house in the Dakota Territory. Blizzards cover the little town with snow, cutting off all supplies from the outside. Soon there is almost no food left, so young Almanzo Wilder and a friend make a dangerous trip across the prairie to find some wheat. Finally a joyous Christmas is celebrated in a very unusual way in this most exciting of all the Little House books.

An amusing twist 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

In this unconventional send-up of the classic fairy-tale, the wall between story pages and characters is broken, as three pigs escape the big bad wolf not by running away, but by jumping out of the story altogether. A winner of the Caldecott Medal, The Three Pigs by David Wiesner (Clarion Books, 2001) opens with the regular tale of the wolf huffing and puffing, but when one of the pigs realizes that he really doesn't have to submit to the traditional course of the story, he leaps out of the trajectory of his own tale and into others, including "Hey Diddle Diddle the Cat and the Fiddle" and a dragon-slaying adventure . While the text, or lack thereof, certainly does not read like a regular children's picture book, Wiesner's original concept of storybook characters possessing a control beyond that which the author usually affords them is both comical and entertaining. Additionally, Wiesner's creative artwork reflect the story's uniqueness, while the sporadic layout of the book complement the escapades of the three pigs as they travel from one story board to the next before finally returning to their own, frightening the wolf with friends they made along the way.

Editorial Review:

This picture book begins placidly (and familiarly) enough, with three pigs collecting materials and going off to build houses of straw, sticks, and bricks. But the wolf"s huffing and puffing blows the first pig right out of the story . . . and into the realm of pure imagination. The transition signals the start of a freewheeling adventure with characteristic David Wiesner effects—cinematic flow, astonishing shifts of perspective, and sly humor, as well as episodes of flight. Satisfying both as a story and as an exploration of the nature of story, The Three Pigs takes visual narrative to a new level. Dialogue balloons, text excerpts, and a wide variety of illustration styles guide the reader through a dazzling fantasy universe to the surprising and happy ending. Fans of Tuesday"s frogs and Sector 7"s clouds will be captivated by old friends—the Three Pigs of nursery fame and their companions—in a new guise.

great early reader series 5 out of 5 stars.
8 of 8 people found this review helpful.

My son loves the whole Elephant & Piggie series. In fact, these books are what taught him to read at age 4. They are repetitive and use short, easy words. Plus, they are hilarious. My son wants to read them each night. "I Love My New Toy" was just as funny as the rest of the ones we have. Mo Willems is the best children's author out there, in my opinion. We have all of his books, and they get read repeatedly. The whole family enjoys them when they are read aloud.

Editorial Review:

Mo Willems continues his best-selling Elephant and Piggie first reader series.

The books feature two lovable and funny characters: an optimistic (and sometimes reckless) pig and a cautious, pessimistic elephant.  Children who sat on their parents' laps to have Pigeon read to them will eagerly take the plunge with these books to start reading on their own.  Each book has been vetted by an early learning specialist.  These sweet and surprising stories are a much-needed breath of fresh air in the early reader arena.

In I Love My New Toy!, Piggie can't wait to show Gerald her brand new toy.  But will an accidentally broken toy accidentally break a friendship?

wish it were larger! 4 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

My 3 year old loves the I Spy computer games so I got him this I spy book for letters (which he still needs help recognizing). It is a very cute book - several images for each letter and cleverly done. I just wish it were bigger so we can spend more time with it. Overall, a good buy in a small boardbook.

Makes Learning Letters Easy 5 out of 5 stars.

We received this book as a gift for my 2 year old son and he LOVES it! This book, more than anything else, has been amazing in helping him identify the alphabet. He is much further ahead regarding his ABCs than his peers and I think this book is the reason. It is much more simple than the other I Spy books that we own and at first this bummed me out, but after reading it over and over, I think the simplicity helps him concentrate on identifying the letters and not getting lost in the objects. I especially like that the objects that are there start with the letter on the same page. For example on the page with the E, there is also an elephant. This gives us lots of cues for further discussion about each letter. The last page is my son's favorite, which has all of the letters and we always sing the ABC song while he points to each letter. I also recommend I Spy Little Numbers.

Editorial Review:

Walter Wick has ingeniously redesigned photos from I SPY SCHOOL DAYS, and Jean Marzollo has matched them with age-appropriate rhymes, making I SPY LITTLE LETTERS the perfect alphabet book for toddlers.

TOXIC vapors emitted by plastic coating on this book 1 out of 5 stars.
1 of 9 people found this review helpful.

Do we need more government regulation, not less? Get the government off our backs. I guess that means letting publisher print books that emit plastic vinyl vapors for our kids to breathe. My three year old was cutting this book with a scissors when I realized she was trying to tell me something. I got a headache from the plastic reek, while I repairing it with cellophane tape. I find it difficult to believe the parents giving this book good reviews don't see this as a problem. How bad do chronic disorders among kids have to get, before we realize it is not our dysfunctional genes that are to blame, but rather it is the countless ecological factors?

Editorial Review:

It’s fall, and Ruby is making a leaf-collection book for school. Ruby is certain that after she finds her last three leaves she’ll have the best book in the whole class! As Ruby works on her project, Max has some fun of his own by creating a giant leaf pile. At first Ruby thinks Max is trying to help her, but Ruby soon realizes that Max’s leaves aren’t for collecting—they’re for jumping in!

An American Classic 4 out of 5 stars.
1 of 2 people found this review helpful.

There's a reason why the Little House books are considered American classics. These books are a very simple look at frontier life through the eyes of a little girl. Readers who enjoy a history lesson without a lecture will enjoy LITTLE HOUSE IN THE BIG WOODS as Laura Ingalls Wilder describes what life was like growing up in the wilderness of Wisconsin's "big woods" in the 1870's.

Editorial Review:

America's Original Pioneer Girl

Meet Laura Ingalls, the little girl who would grow up to write the Little House books.

Wolves and panthers and bears roam the deep Wisconsin woods in the late 1870's. In those same woods, Laura lives with Pa and Ma, and her sisters, Mary and Baby Carrie, in a snug little house built of logs. Pa hunts and traps. Ma makes her own cheese and butter. All night long, the wind howls lonesomely, but Pa plays the fiddle and sings, keeping the family safe and cozy.

Little House in the Big Woods is the first book in the Laura Years series.
