Great for below-grade-level readers 5 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

The Fly Guy books have been great for my daughter. She is mildly autistic, so her reading level is around kindergarten even though she is in third grade. She often feels that the books at her level are babyish or boring. Fly Guy is funny and disgusting and very appealing to her. She also likes the idea of reading a real "chapter book". This book especially makes good use of repeating somewhat difficult words in the same phrases, so she can read faster as the book goes on. Thanks Tedd Arnold, and please write many more!

Editorial Review:

Fly Guy returns home to discover that Buzz has gone on a picnic without him! Sad and hungry, Fly Guy takes off in search of his favorite food. He gets shooed away from a hamburger, a pizza, a dog's bones, and even roadkill--leaving readers to guess what Fly Guy's favorite oozy, lumpy, smelly, and brown food could possibly be! Why, it's shoo-fly pie, of course!

Using hyperbole, puns, slapstick, and silly drawings, bestselling author/illustrator Tedd Arnold creates an easy reader that is full of fun. With an eye-catching holographic foil cover, this is the third in a series of four books.

Great book for early readers and others as well 5 out of 5 stars.

Used this book with groups of struggling readers. It was motivating and they wanted to read the sequels. They are very fond of Fly Guy now, and they are very excited about the next book. They want to write a letter to Tedd Arnold and ask him to write more Fly Guy books.

Buzzzzz... 5 out of 5 stars.

Fly Guy is so cute. A fly cute? Well, he is. He's drawn that way as only Tedd Arnold can. I love his pictures as they all have that same uniqueness to them. You can always spot a Tedd Arnold book.
Fly Guy has an owner named Buzz and he says his name all the time. Who wouldn't want a pet that says your name?
My kids really enjoy this book. It's simple yet innovative. How many of us wish we thought of it ourselves?
Love it!

Boy and fly meet and so begins a beautiful friendship. Er, and so begins a very funny friendship. Using hyperbole, puns, slapstick, and silly drawings, bestselling author/illustrator Tedd Arnold creates an easy reader that is full of fun. "A pop-eyed, self-confident mite in Arnold's droll cartoon illustrations, Fly Guy's up to any challenge, whether it be eating a hot dog (well, most of it, anyway), or performing amazing aerial acrobatics; readers drawn by the flashy foil cover will stick around to applaud this unusually capable critter." --Kirkus Reviews

Great early reader! 5 out of 5 stars.

It's tough to find books at my son's reading level that excite him. The fly guy books always fit the bill. With silly boy humor and a well laid out text for early readers I recomend these books to all of his friend's parents.

My boys love the Fly Guy books!!! 5 out of 5 stars.

my almost 3-year old daughter loves this book. Of course she can't read it herself, but she can't get enough of us reading it to her. Would recommend this book to anyone whose kid as an offbeat sense of humor.

Editorial Review:

Buzz is visiting Grandma, and Fly Guy comes along for the ride. Oops! Grandma swallows Fly Guy, then a spider, then a bird, then a cat, then a dog. . . .

She's about to swallow a horse, when Fly Guy shouts: "BUZZZ!" Buzz is starting to worry, but there is nothing Fly Guy can't handle! He flies out, and all the critters follow. And everybody parties!

superb early reader 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

"Super Fly Guy" is a great early reader book. It's fun and silly while still remaining a reasonable read for about a level 3 reader. I also love "Hi Fly Guy" and "Shoo Fly Guy". I only wish I could find more books of this quality at this level.

ok 2 out of 5 stars.

I'm not sure what the craze is on this book yet or the series. I bought them based on reviews and my son just doesn't like them and we aren't into them either.

Great Early Reader--fun & cool for first grader! 5 out of 5 stars.

Good story about school dilemma, my first-grader enjoys working this one herself. Funny stuff, great illustrations, just long enough for reading workout.

Editorial Review:

Fly Guy loves the school lunchroom. He loves the dirty dishes, the smelly mop, and the garbage cans. But when the lunch ladies discover there's a fly in the cafeteria, chaos ensues! Though Fly Guy makes a mess of things, he also shows his powers as a Super Fly Guy!

Using hyperbole, puns, slapstick, and silly drawings, bestselling author/illustrator Tedd Arnold creates an easy reader that is full of fun. With an eye-catching holographic foil cover, this is the second in a series of four books.

Hilarious! 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

You can always spot a Tedd Arnold book. His pictures have such a uniqueness to them and his words are simple and cute. He really makes you think. When I read this book to my boys they laugh and then wonder themselves why they have lint in their belly buttons or gray things falling out of their noses.
Wonderfully drawn and filled with exceptional humor. It's almost as though a child wrote it, it's so believable!

Editorial Review:

First, his hair started falling out. Then skin started peeling from his toes. Some stuffing came out of his belly button, and a piece of something gray and wet-his brain?-fell out of his nose. Is this normal? Or is this boy coming unglued? With a perfect combination of humor and grossness, this look at one boy's farfetched fears will have readers laughing their heads off!

"A zany, ultimately reassuring take on something that may indeed be a child's bugaboo." -Booklist

Thanks for the Fly Guy books they jump started her Reading & We also Thank Amazon because alot of Book Stores in our area do not have them !!!!!!

Editorial Review:

Mom and Dad won't let Fly Guy go along on the family road trip. They're afraid he'll get lost. But when Dad accidentally shuts him in the trunk, Fly Guy goes along for the ride!

First, Fly Guy gets lost at the picnic site--but he shows up in the garbage can. Then he gets lost at the art museum, but he shows up as part of a modern painting. At the beach, he turns up in a shell, and at he amusement park, on Buzz's hot dog (yuck!).

Zany illustrations and easy-to-read text make this a fun reading adventure for the beginner. The first book in the Fly Guy series is a Theodor Geisel honor book.

Disappointed 1 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

I bought this book for my son's birthday, because we had previously read and loved "Even More Parts" by the same author. It is nowhere near as clever and was a huge disappointment to both of us. It is also much shorter than "Even More Parts" and that made it seem even more disappointing.

Makes Reading Fun 5 out of 5 stars.

The best way to get a child interested in reading is to make reading fun. This series is a good start. It's short and simple and funny. KEEP KIDS READING! Make it fun and make them laugh.

Sounds AWEFUL 1 out of 5 stars.

Why is it that as American generations progress, parents become less and less aware of the sensitivity of their children's hearts? My husband and I (who are in our 20s) are extremely careful about exposing our sons to things that cause unnecessary stress and fear. We do not shelter them from real-life experiences but are careful to explain them in a way that they can understand and move on from (i.e. our cat disappearing and our horse dying from old age), yet why give a child something to fear that is not necessary? If one would like to explain a certain idiom that we have in society, one can do so when the question arises (which will most likely not be very often). While we do not own this book, I was appalled to see the pictures and ideas that this would give our children who would otherwise not have thought of these horrific things (they are 2 & 5). I was looking for a book that might name and/or explain body parts in a funny and cartoonish way- not a Halloween or horror story for little minds. My conclusion is this: Aren't there enough bad/scary/weird things going on in everyone's normal life without having a story book to present more of those things to your children?

Editorial Review:

Give me a hand . . . hold your tongue . . . scream your lungs out . . . what's a kid to do if he wants to keep all his body parts in place? Well, one thing is for sure, he'll have to be creative. Like, if you want to keep your heart from breaking, just make sure it's well padded and protected by tying a pillow around your chest. Want to keep your hands attached? Simple-stick them on with gloves and lots of glue. Just be careful not to laugh your head off!

Not as good as Parts and More Parts 3 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

My 2 and a half-year old loves Parts & More Parts, and begs for repeated readings. We got this book as an incentive at the local library for having completed a summer reading program for kids. I thought the third book in the trilogy would be similar to the first two, and was very wrong in my assumption. This is definitely for older kids, and though it says it is suitable for 1st graders, I think its more appropriate for those in the upper elementary classes. It deals with idioms, using the different body parts to illustrate the use of idioms, like "Don't give me lip", "Can I lend you a helping hand?" etc...though it is creative, there seems to be a lack of humor that was so apparent in the earlier two books in the series. Oh well, that's just my opinion...its just written in a different vein than Parts & More Parts.

Editorial Review:

Chip Block, the hero of Parts, is back, and still worried about falling apart based on the things he hears. This time he’s made a list of all the strange, crazy things he’s heard people say: "I lost my head." "My nose is running." "I sang my heart out. . . ." It’s scary stuff, but he has a plan for making sure he doesn’t accidentally leave any of his parts behind. A hilarious sequel to the wildly popular Parts and More Parts.

Let the sillies begin! 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

Hysterical, unique illustrations provide a second, unwritten story line that makes it enjoyable for children *and* parents. Poor little girl has such a long name that she has to make the best of it--and does--quite swimmingly. Simple music is written out at the end of the book so that you can sing it to your kids (my daughter's preference) OR just read it as a poem (my son's). Get ready for a serious case of the sillies!

Editorial Review:

Meet Catalina Magdalena Whoopensteiner Wallendiner Hogan Logan Bogan... She had two holes on the bottom of her nose-- One for her fingers, and one for her toes!Though she has two arms that drag along the ground, two feet bigger than a bathroom mat, and just two teeth in her mouth, life for Catalina is full and fun! Best-selling author/illustrator Tedd Arnold has transformed a popular camp song into a wild, wacky, happy book--with a wonderful message of making the most of life and finding joy where one can! And on the cover of the book are googly eyes that really move!

No Jumping On The Bed 4 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

Author: Tedd Arnold

When Walter starts jumping on the bed his Dad tells him, "Don't jump on the bed or you might fall through the floor." I don't think the little boy wants to stop jumping on the bed. The author seems to understand what kids can go through and I hope there are other people who want to read this book to their kids. This is a very creative book and I think that someone who can write a book and somehow know almost everything a kid will do, must really understand kids. Tedd Arnold is a very creative person. I would read this book to my little brothers, sisters and cousins because it's a very good book and it's appropriate for children eight and younger.

Two boys' review: Cute idea quickly becomes silly story 1 out of 5 stars.
1 of 3 people found this review helpful.

While the concept was interesting and the problem is real -- jumping on the bed (Our two boys bounce every chance they get.) -- the story quickly devolves into jumbled rhymes without a clear storyline. This isn't Dr. Suess quality. The rhymes are leaden and fall faster than the kid though his apartment floors. For example, "Hattie, Battie, Fattie..."

Look elsewhere for a good bedtime book; I have several other kids books I recommend on Amazon as well as a couple lists specifically for young readers.

Editorial Review:

Walter lives near the top floor of a tall apartment building, where one night his habit of jumping on his bed leads to a tumultuous fall through floor after floor, collecting occupants all the way down. Reprint. SLJ. PW.
