what a whopper 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

This was a great book. Sometimes you can tell your children something many times, and a book or children's show can suddenly make it click for them. Lots of good lessons here-- always tell the truth, lying breaks the trust between people, and lying makes things complicated and leads to more lies, i.e. When Brother & Sister are asked what happened for the second time, they can't exactly remember how the story went the first time they told it! Stan Berenstain had a wonderful talent for making a life lesson entertaining.

Terrific Teaching 5 out of 5 stars.

This and all the Berenstain Bears books are excellent teaching tools for preschoolers. My four year old granddaughter asks for them to be read over and over.

Lessons our two year-old enjoys 4 out of 5 stars.

I remember the Berenstain bears fondly from my childhood. The books are entertaining with nice illustrations, bright colors and the always interesting...talking bears. They introduce life lessons without being overly preachy about. Our two year-old remembers the lessons and we use them regularly to remind him when he slips up. He is just figuring out how to lie ("mommy didn't give me vitamin yet"). He understands when we compare what he says to the book he knows so well. We've got a bunch of these books and we plan to get all of them!

Editorial Review:

When Brother and Sister Bear accidentally break Mama's favorite lamp, their little lie grows bigger and bigger, until Papa Bear helps them find the words that set everything right again.

Great book 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

I have talked to my daughter on many occasions about strangers. However, after reading this book to her several times (and stopping to talk about what was happening), she's finally starting to understand that she shouldn't interact with strangers unless her parents are around.

Two boys' review: Helps broach the danger without scaring kids 4 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

I've reviewed many of the Berenstain Bears books available at Amazon. I mix these books into the bedtime reading rotation for our two young sons. I like these books because they allow me to review manners, morales and important lessons at the end of the day.

"Learn About Strangers" is as important a topic as it is difficult to teach without scaring your kids. This book shows how everyone needs to be aware of their surroundings. At different points in the story, both of the young bears get caught up and forget the book's lesson. Fortunately, their sibling is able to help remind them to be careful.

I also recommend these other Berenstain Bears' books:

The Berenstain Bears Get in a Fight
The Berenstain Bears and the Trouble with Chores
The Berenstain Bears Forget Their Manners
The Berenstain Bears and Too Much TV

Editorial Review:

When Papa Bear tells the cubs why they should never talk to strangers, Sister begins to view all strangers as evil until Mama brings some common sense to the problem. "The Bears' rules for safe conduct among strangers are listed on the last pages, including a rule about the privacy of a bear's body. A good book to start awareness in young children."--School Library Journal.

A Good Lesson for Families 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

This book tells a positive story for all families--about how we should get out of our own selfish pursuits and concerns and think about the needs of others--very highly recommended!

Still great after all these years! 5 out of 5 stars.

Good for the beginning reader 5 out of 5 stars.

My daugther has several of the Berenstain Bear books and she loves reading them. They have a positive message for children while keeping their attention. Even though she reads at a higher level, she still loves these books.

Bears evaluate needs and clutter 4 out of 5 stars.

Great book. I like their creativity for helping others and that they kids the kids involved.

The Bears are the best. 5 out of 5 stars.

My son loves the Berenstein Bears and what was a surprise to me was how much I like them. The stories are sweet and positive, always with a good family moral to them. We keep buying more and more of these.

Editorial Review:

Stuff in the closets, stuff in the drawers, stuff in the attic--too much stuff everywhere! Mama Bear convinces the family that cleaning out the house can not only simplify their cluttered lives, but also benefit those who are in need!

A Nice Story 5 out of 5 stars.

Manners Matter! 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

In today's culture manners are becoming an increasing issue. Parents aren't sure how to handle their children, without over stepping their boundaries. This book may be a good starting point, on where to begin. The younger the child the better.

Two boys' review: A good springboard to discuss manners 4 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

We have 5-6 of the Berenstain Bears books that we mix into our bedtime reading library.

This book, "Forget Their Manners," is especially handy for bedtime reading when I want to stimulate a discussion about a lapse of manners at the dinner table.

By the time I finish reading, my children are openly talking about their recent bad manners and resolving to improve their behavior.

Editorial Review:

"When Mama Bear's efforts to improve her family's manners are unsuccessful, she devises a Politeness Plan--a chart listing a chore as a penalty for each act of rudeness. Basic etiquette is presented in a practical way. Berenstain illustrations add humor and understanding."--School Library Journal.

LOVE IT 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

Its a great collection. If you're not familiar with the Berenstain Bears, let me be the first to tell you, you have just found your new favorite literary characters. The illustrations are so unique and precise. The stories are heartfelt, realistic and give good advice. I use these stories for a lot of the moral lessons for my children.

Pretty good 4 out of 5 stars.

My little boy likes most of these stories, but they aren't the very best of the Berenstain Bears stories. Not a bad introduction. We'd buy it again.

Big Book of The Berenstain Bears 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

My 2 1/2 year old grandaughter already has an interest in books and she absolutely loved this book. I looked in the book when she was finished and realized that the
pictures vividly tell the story - she didn't even need anyone to read it to her
- she quietly sat looking at the book for a long time. When I did read it to her
the words were sparse and well written - just perfect for her age.

Not All Doctors Are Bad. 5 out of 5 stars.
6 of 6 people found this review helpful.

Most children are afraid of going to the doctor (well a lot of adults are, too, but for completely different reasons). When the word doctor is mentioned to kids images of needles, blood, bandages, and strange looking objects come to mind. Reading THE BERENSTAIN BEARS GO TO THE DOCTOR may help relieve some of the fears that children have when they know they are going to the doctor.

In the story, Brother and Sister Bear have to go to Dr. Gert Grizzly to have a checkup. Brother isn't too bothered by the whole thing, but Sister is a bit worried. The next day Sister is able to help out some frightened younger cubs while she is in the waiting room and sets an example for all the children to follow.

Overall, a delightful little book that helps relieve children's fears of going to the doctor and gives them a broader perspective about life.

Editorial Review:

It's time for a routine check-up with Dr. Gert Grizzly. Sister Bear is brave about her booster shot, and Brother Bear is fine, but--achoo!--is that Papa Bear sneezing? "A light-hearted approach to the subject with straightforward information."--Appraisal. IRA Children's Choice.

Scientific Facts not Accurate 3 out of 5 stars.
1 of 3 people found this review helpful.

I enjoyed this book (and others in the series) with my three girls when they were little who all are now twenty-somethings.

As a geologist, it was grating to see dinosaur model toys being referred to as being from the Pleistocene!! (the age of woolly mammoths, sabre-tooth tigers, dire wolfs etc.)

We wrote a letter to the Berenstains and got a cute letter reply from Papa Bear. He said they would correct the mistake in the next printing. OK, that was well over 20 years ago, and the book is still the same. Sigh! And people lament that our children are uninformed about science.

Now that my youngest daughter is about to get a teaching credential to teach science in elementary and middle school, maybe it's time for her to write another letter.

Editorial Review:

"The room shared by Brother and Sister is a mess because the cubs argue over who should neaten up instead of working together. Sure to make toddlers smile while they absorb an implied lesson."--Publishers Weekly.

The Berenstain magic 5 out of 5 stars.
4 of 4 people found this review helpful.

When my children were small they loved the Berenstain books. It still is a great pleasure to see these books. One of their finest features is the appealing way the Bears are drawn. They are so bright and colorful.
The TV book is a good one, and it has an excellent lesson for the world's children. Too much sitting and watching T.V. dulls the mind and the heart. Children need more time to be outside playing, or with their parents, or reading books, or doing many other things.
This book may seem a bit dated as today the couch- potato distractions are more diverse( and perhaps Interactive) than T.V.
In any case this little book is a fine and amusing read for children and for parents alike.

Two boys' review: Good message, but book needs updating 2 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I've reviewed several of the Berenstain Bears books available at Amazon. This one is my least favorite because it is stuck in the mid-1980s. Mother Bear supposes the increased TV viewing is a result of the family switching from a black-and-white TV to a color set or, perhaps, because Papa Bear installed a new antenna atop the tree house.

Seriously, in a world of satellite TV, digital video recorders and on-demand movies, do you think upgrading to color television is the issue?

The rest of the book, which focuses on outdoor activities and the value of a family dinner time, is still valuable, but could use an update as well.

Skip this book and pick up "The Berenstain Bears and the Trouble with Commercials" instead.

Editorial Review:

When Mama Bear decides her family spends too much time in front of the TV, she bans it for a week. Then the Bear family finds other ways to have fun and keep busy, so they watch less when TV is allowed again--and they don't even miss it.

both kids' fault 3 out of 5 stars.

I like that the book shows how actions can be misunderstood and that it isn't always just one kid's fault. excitement of something new can mess you up if you're not grounded in principle.

Editorial Review:

Sister Bear and her new friend, Miranda, make a lot of bad decisions—riding down Dead Bear's Hill, eating Ben's apples, running through Mizz McGrizz's tulips. When Mama Bear finds out about these things, she wants Sister to stop playing with their new neighbor. But is it really all Miranda's fault?

Ungrateful Bears 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

Sister and Brother Bear gripe and complain that all their friends have new toys and new things. Mamma gets sick of their whining and basically tells them to be grateful for what they DO have instead of what they DON'T.

A storm comes and soon the Bear family finds themselves together and the cubs find out that family and each other is more important than things and being grateful for what they have is wiser than being covetous.

Count their blessings 4 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

I enjoyed these books as a child and now I can buy them for the child in my life. Each book teaches an important lesson without seeming preachy. My nephew loves them. Make sure you select a Berenstain Bears book that is age appropriate. Some of them deal with issues for all children, some are for school aged children. Think about the content before you select yours.

Editorial Review:

Illustrated in full color. Mama Bear is tired of hearing how many Bearbie

dolls Lizzy Bruin has and how many Game Bear video games Cousin Freddy just

got. During a thunderstorm, Mama gets her cubs to realize that love and a good

home are much more valuable than material possessions.
