Sibling Rivalry Between Clifford and a Visiting Kitten 5 out of 5 stars.
9 of 10 people found this review helpful.

Our younger daughter found Clifford, the Big Red Dog, to be one of her favorite characters in picture books. The many humorous plays on his enormous size left her giggling and laughing. The illustrations took the simple ideas in the book and made them unforgettable. This book can help you explain to your children about not being jealous of other children in your family.

"I'm Emily Elizabeth. This is my dog, Clifford. He's the only pet I ever had . . . except for one time last year."

"A kitten came to our house. I think he was lost."

"Mom said we could keep him until he found his owner."

Emily Elizabeth puts the kitten to bed in Clifford's old basket, and puts it close to her bed. Clifford becomes jealous, and sleeps so close outside her window that he knocks the house atilt from its foundation on that side. The next day, Mom says the kitten has to sleep with Clifford.

Whatever the kitten does, Clifford wants to do . . . often with hilarious consequences. The kitten's butterfly chasing leads Clifford to swallow a kite which he has mistaken for a giant butterfly. Dad pays the boy so he can get a new one. The kitten scratches his claws on a tree, and Clifford sharpens his nails on a light pole which is uprooted in the process. The kitten rides in a doll's carriage, and Clifford hops on a real dump truck. The kitten plays with a spool of thread and Clifford knocks a huge spool of fiber optic cable through two walls of a neighbor's garage! But Clifford is not fussy about eating while the kitten is.

The kitten makes a mistake and goes in front of a moving car. Clifford pounces on the car, and stops it before the kitten is injured. The car, however, will need some work.

Eventually, a boy claims the kitten and rides off with him in the basket on the handlebars of his bicycle. Emily Elizabeth sighs, "Oh well, I still have a pretty good dog. The last illustration shows Clifford's enormous pink tongue licking her.

After you have enjoyed this story, I suggest that you talk with your children about how different children in a family can become jealous of one another. You can use this book as an example, and also mention your own feelings towards your siblings when you were young. You want to be sure that older children realize that they got the same tender treatment that the new baby is getting. Pulling out their photos or videos can help.

Focus on companionable pleasure in one another over rivalry at home!

A great Christmas-book 4 out of 5 stars.
2 of 3 people found this review helpful.

"Clifford's Christmas" is a great Christmas-book! It tells the story about Clifford and how he celebrates the Christmastime. He has his own Christmastree and he gets to meet the Santa Claus. The book shows children all the nice things that can happen to you during the Christmastime.

Read to Your Child for Greater Bonding and Intellect! 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 4 people found this review helpful.

Researchers constantly find that reading to children isvaluable in a variety of ways, not least of which are instilling a love of reading and improved reading skills. With better parent-child bonding from reading, your child will also be more emotionally secure and able to relate better to others. Intellectual performance will expand as well. Spending time together watching television fails as a substitute.

To help other parents apply this advice, as a parent of four I consulted an expert, our youngest child, and asked her to share with me her favorite books that were read to her as a young child. Clifford's Christmas was one of her picks.

This book takes a very large dog's eye view of the Christmas season, beginning with Thanksgiving. Clifford is much larger than Emily Elizabeth or her house. In fact, Clifford is so large he is as big as a helium-filled turkey balloon at the Thanksgiving Day parade.

Clifford makes different kinds of snowmen, plays ice hockey differently, and brings home a Christmas tree that is only the right size for him (not the family). On Christmas, Clifford and Santa Claus have some interesting interactions.

The result is to help your child develop a nonhuman perspective that will expand her or his intelligence and perception. That's a wonderful benefit to get from such a simple story.

Overcome your misconception stall that everything about children has to be seen from a child's perspective for a child to learn.

Enjoy!

This book is definitely one of the classics of modern literature. The humor is infinitely sharper than that of all other children's literature. The illustrations remind one of the early days of Ted Degrazia. Buy this book and your life will be changed for the better.

bad pictures, flat reading and not educational at all.

Editorial Review:

In 1963, a star was born - Clifford the Big Red Dog! Now he's 40 years old, and his original story is available in a deluxe, hardcover, collector's edition with flocking and foil on the jacket! When Norman Bridwell published his first book all those years ago, kids were captivated by the Big Red Dog - and they have continued to love Clifford ever since! He's an adorable dog whose well-meaning bumblings have great kid-appeal. Clifford is Emily Elizabeth's, and everyone's, favorite big red dog!

Clifford's Birthday Party 4 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

There is a review below that says that the book shows "how they grew up" - that is inaccurate. The book is about one day, Clifford's birthday, and the party his family has for him.

For parents who worry about the messages in the books their kids read, there is a potentially bothersome message here. Clifford's friends don't bother to show up for the party because they couldn't find gifts good enough for Clifford. If you, like me, just want books to entertain your kids and hook them on reading, Clifford's Birthday Party is worth picking up.

LOVES CLIFFORD 5 out of 5 stars.

I work with a student who has Autism and he LOVES this book so much that he has picked out his favorite pages and those are the only pages he wants to here. I have also fallen in love with this book after reading it again and again. This is an excellent book for kids. Just ask my student he will the say the same.

Clifford is always a winner... 4 out of 5 stars.
13 of 15 people found this review helpful.

Clifford and his adventures are always very popular in my classroom. Some may argue that many of Clifford's adventures are a stretch, they are nonetheless captavating to a young audience. In this edition, Clifford after being introdcued to the role of firefighters and the importance of fire safety gets a chance to be a fire rescue dog is his own right. The book is a great seque into fire safety and prevention.

Not as enjoyable 3 out of 5 stars.

We started our Clifford journey with "Clifford the Big Red Dog". It is a really good story. The others are not as enjoyable from a parent perspective. This sone is nice that it has fire safety eduction in it. It's not so nice that Clifford destroys a man's fruit stand and just laughs it off.

Editorial Review:

Released in time for "Fire Prevention Week" in October, Emily Elizabeth and Clifford pay a visit to Clifford's brother Nero, a fire rescue dog. While learning about fire safety, Clifford unexpectedly helps out on a fire and rescues people from a burning building. Full color illustrations.

Great for a travel story 4 out of 5 stars.
0 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I bought this book on cassette for my 21/2 yr old son to listen to on the airplane, since it was about a vacation. He watches Clifford every day and loves the book. Although, I don't like the part about Emily Elizabeth playing with bear cubs and the mama bear comes along and Clifford saves the day and they are all friends. I think they could have written something different.

hopeful 3 out of 5 stars.

this book is hopeful because of the fact that he wanted to make sure everything was alright and so he traveled just to do so and they all thanked him in the end of his journey because he saved his owner.

For Clifford fans a must 5 out of 5 stars.

Clifford is such a hero. Having watched more episodes than I like to admit, the Big Red Dog and Emily Elizabeth show what true friendship means. My children love the accompanying audio, which is especially great for expat families or those who do not have immediate access to PBS. Clifford saves the day again in this short book about a family trip that ends up short of disaster, thanks to Clifford!

Summer vacation means one thing—more time for Emily Elizabeth to play with Clifford! Until this summer, that is. Emily Elizabeth’s family is going far away, so far that Clifford can’t come. Or can he? Follow along as Clifford sniffs, swims, and tiptoes to fi nd Emily Elizabeth—just in the nick of time!

Greatest of Intentions 4 out of 5 stars.

Clifford, the Big Red Dog, a loveable character in author Norman Bridwell's large collection of books (Recently featured in PBS's children's shows).

Clifford's Good Deeds is about the title character Clifford, his owner Emily Elizabeth, and a neighbor boy named Tim. The three together decide to do "Good Deeds" for their fellow neighbors. Unfortunately these deeds end up in funny mishaps til the very end when a critical problem was solved by none other than Clifford when he assisted in putting out a housefire.

This is a great book for younger readers, (ages 6-8) and if read to children of Toddler/Preschool age.

Clifford's Good Deeds 3 out of 5 stars.

In the book called "Clifford's Good Deeds", there is a character named Clifford, his owner Emily Elizabeth, and a neighbor boy named Tim. Clifford, Emily, and Tim tries to do good deeds to help out people. Clifford tries helping someone rake the leaves, but he sneezed and all the leaves scatter. Then Clifford tries to do another good deed, painting. He was doing well until the lady thanked him and he was so happy he wagged his tail. Then white paint splattered all over the house. Clifford messes up when he tries to help out two more people, a person in the sewer and someone with their cat stuck in a tree. He decides that he isn't any good. This book teaches kids about good deeds in life.
This book is for ages 7-8.
