Enjoyable 4 out of 5 stars.

I picked this book up at my local library and decided to give it a try. I ended up enjoying it a lot, but, of course, it wasn't perfect, but it did meet my exceptions. I have always enjoyed Eve Bunting's books, but I say that this is my favorite Eve Bunting book I've read. I only rated it four stars instead of five stars, because, even though I liked it, it wasn't perfect.

Meet Janey Winston, a sixth grader at Fred Barrington Elementary School. She, her best friend Claudia Fairfield, as well as Janey's secret crush, Blake Conway, are all R.A.B.B.I.T.S. (Read A Book; Bring It To School.) Claudia and Janey have just heard great news, too, for all the Rabbits - there's going to be a big sleepover party in the cafeteria!

Claudia's so excited; she's got a new pair a pair of pajames, and they're going to be carpooling with Blake, Janey's crush, Malcolm Price, Claudia's crush, as well as the weird new girl - Rosie Green. But Janey's worried - she has a secret no one can know - she's afraid of the dark - because of an old babysitter. Will Janey have to miss the sleepover of the century?

Editorial Review:

Janey worries that the sixth grade Rabbit Reading Club's all-night sleepover will expose her fear of the dark, but it turns out that she is not the only member with a secret.

Editorial Review:

Alex and his dog Patch are out for a walk when the boy discovers a little toy mouse dressed in a red vest. He falls in love with the tiny creature — promptly named Reggie — and takes it home. Soon, “lost mouse” signs appear in Alex’s neighborhood, but he ignores them — after all, anyone who could lose such an adorable thing must deserve to lose it. His friend Brian tries to convince him to return the mouse to its heartbroken owner, but Alex won’t hear of it. The boys quarrel, and poor Patch ends up in the middle. Brian storms off — and so does the jealous Patch. When Alex calls the dog to his supper, the gate is open and Patch is gone. Alex and his parents search the neighborhood, but no Patch. They put up flyers, but still no Patch. Whoever’s found a beloved pet like Patch wouldn’t just keep him . . . would they? Alex’s struggle to overcome selfishness rings true with young readers.

The book "THE HIDEOUT" was an intriguing book. The author Eve Bunting is an excellent author and explained the antagonist and protanist. The antagonists were Andy the main character and Leah the hero. The protagonist was Fred who kidnapped Andy. The one negative comment I have of the book was how poorly the author explained how Andy escaped from the van. Other than that the book was excellant and should be read by all kids.

great! 4 out of 5 stars.

This book takes place in hotel. The main character, Andy, is the one staying in the hotel in the tower suite room. andy wants to run away, because he thinks his mom doesn,t love him anymore, now that she has a new husband. He descides to run away, not knowing where he's going, he takes money out of his step dad's wallet and leaves. He doesn't leave a note or tell his mom where he's going. He goes to this hotel. A bellman drops a key to a hotel room. Andy picks up the key. He goes and tries to find the room that this key belongs to. But, has a T engraved on it. He doesn't know if it means room # 30, 30th floor, room # 20 or what it means. He goes on the elevator and tries to find this room. He finally finds it and it turns out to be a key for the tower suite. (the biggest room in the hotel) he descides to stay there. Later that night he almost gets caught. He takes off his shoes. Someone finds the shoes and, they almost take the shoes with them. They don't, they thought they were on of the cleaning ladies, kids shoes. Andy thinks he is going to stay in the hotel until his dad gets back from his business trip. His dad won't be back for 3 weeks. So, how will he survive for 3 weeks on his own, with not a lot of food or money? I liked this book, I thought it was interesting. I recommend this book if you like adventures or mysteries you'll like this one!

Editorial Review:

Twelve-year-old Andy feels he would be better off with his father in England than in his San Francisco home with his mother and her new husband. To raise the money needed to finance his trip to England, he stages his own kidnapping, but the plan backfires when someone decides to make the kidnapping a reality. “A common family situation becomes action-filled drama in Bunting’s capable hands.”--Booklist

Editorial Review:

Eve Bunting’s heartfelt story and David Diaz’s dramatic illustrations create a compelling child’s-eye view of urban violence. A young boy and his mother are forced to flee their apartment during a night of rioting in Los Angeles. Fires and looting force neighbors--who have always avoided one another--to come together in the face of danger and concern for their missing pets. David Diaz was awarded the Caldecott Medal for his bold acrylic paint and photo-collage illustrations.

A Favorite in Our Family 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

Jane Martin, Dog Detective, has totally captured the imagination of my six-year-old son. The book consists of three stories with titles like "The Kitten Case." The character, Jane Martin, sets up a detective agency in her backyard treehouse, charging 25 cents a day to solve various dog mysteries. Needless to say, she always solves the mystery - and, in Eve Bunting's wonderful style, the ending is a complete surprise. My son loves this book, and I truly enjoy reading it to him. Children who love dogs will adore this book.

We Loved It 5 out of 5 stars.

My 'almost' six-year-old daughter fell in love with the character Jane Martin. She loved trying to figure out the case before Jane did. Eve Bunting moves the story along so she didn't get bored. The variety of animals and characters is just enough. A great book for thinkers and budding detectives.
