Never received 1 out of 5 stars.

I remember loving this book as a child, so I was so excited to order it for my kindergarten class. Unfortunately, I purchased the book and never received it. Be careful what you order!

the book is very small 2 out of 5 stars.
0 of 1 people found this review helpful.

Didn't realize this was a mini-version of the book till I received it. It's about the size of an adult's hand (fingertip to palm). Doesn't make the best gift.

A must for young children 5 out of 5 stars.

No child should survive childhood without having been been exposed to this book. They love to see the caterpillar "gnawing" its way through the food and then aching with the pain of so much and then morphing into a beautiful butterfly. Also, it's a science lesson they do not realize they are learning.

Great gift for kids! 5 out of 5 stars.

I buy this book for all of my friends with kids and they all love it!

Full of Educational Value 5 out of 5 stars.

I recommend it in my latest parenting book, "Kindergarten Simplified," as a precusor to starting school. It has all the draw of a wonderful children's book, i.e., beautiful illustrations, the curious holes in the pages, and the interesting story line.

Best of all, your child will benefit from the "sponge effect" of hearing it over and over and learning the days of the week, numbers, sight words, and a little science lesson.

Editorial Review:

The Very Hungry Caterpillar is inarguably one of the most popular children's books of all time. Now, here is the Spanish board book version of The Very Hungry Caterpillar, filling an important niche for the youngest of Spanish-speaking children.

Brown Bear's back! 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I remember reading this charming story to my own kids and also to my preschool class. Now it's been reissued in board book format, artistically illustrated, and every bit as enjoyable. This is a perfect book for teaching color and animal names, in a catchy rhyming format. Each page foretells what the animal and color will be on the next. Recommended for reading to babies and for beginning readers to tackle on their own.

Best bear book ever 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

Brown Bear, Brown Bear is a classic for babies and toddlers. They may go through more than one copy. It's the first book that they memorize and that's the first step in beginning to read.
I buy it often for young children.

Editorial Review:

With more than two million copies sold, Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? has opened up a world of learning to a generation of children. For this edition, created for the twenty-fifth anniversay in 1992, Bill Martin, Jr., restored his text to its original wording. And Eric Carle created all new pictures--based on the originals, but clearer, brighter, and truer to the colors they represent.

Another excellent book by Eric Carle 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

This book is among my daughter's favorites. She is nearly two years old and has already dog-eared and torn some pages, she literally has enjoyed the book to pieces. This has turned out to be a perfect book for her because she absolutely loves the moon. Seattle winter's don't offer many opportunities for even glimpses of the moon. It's also about a girl and her papa which is something nice for my husband to share with her. Don't expect this book to physically withstand the curious hands of infants. It's not tough like a board book!

Teeny tiny book, cute message 3 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

This book is really small!
Cute, but if you are getting it for a toddler they may need some supervision to make sure the pages don't get torn.
Also a bit expensive for what you are getting..

Editorial Review:

This story literally unfolds as pages open dramatically, extending both outward and upward. Monica wants the moon to play with, so her Papa sets out to get it for her. It isn't easy to climb all the way to the moon, but he finally succeeds--only to find that the moon is too big to carry home! The way the problem is resolved is a joyful surprise. Illustrated.

Great book! 5 out of 5 stars.

My 18 month old son loves this book! He watched me do the movements as I read it and now he does them on his own when I read the book! Very cute and interactive.

Eric Carle does it again! 5 out of 5 stars.

Our 20 month old and 3 year old boys love this Eric Carle gem. It combines beautiful pictures of animals with simple rhythmic text showing body parts and actions -- turning heads, bending necks, raising shoulders, arching backs and others. Best of all, it allows active participation by imitating what is on the page. We have purchased quite a few books but this one is magic.

Good "move around" type of story 4 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

In this book, various animals and children move parts of their body and encourage other children to do so.

Eric Carle is truly a master of this kind of text. Each spread follows the same repetitive structure - "I'm a $ANIMAL and I can $VERB my $BODYPART - can you? I can do it!" - which makes it very suitable both for young children learning to speak and older children figuring out how to read.

The only part I don't like is at the end, when the little boy says to his parrot (in a neat turnaround) "I am I, and I can wiggle my toe". It doesn't sound very idiomatic to me - I would say, in normal speech "I am me", or perhaps (in the form followed in the rest of the book) "I am a child" or "I am a person" or "I am a human".

This book is also, obviously good to encourage kids to move during a rainy-day storytime, or to let them move if they always are fidgeting during storytime.

Editorial Review:

Are you ready?
Here we go!
Move yourself
From Head to Toe

I can do it! That's what kids will say when they wiggle, stomp, thump, and bend across the pages of this book. Laughter and squeals of delight will abound as boys and girls (and their elders, too!) participate in the action.

My babies favorite 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I heard on the radio that this book is the #1 best selling fiction book (including adult books) of all time. I remember reading it as a kid and now I read it to my son who is eight months. We began reading it at five months and he loves it! I take his hand and run it accross the little holes. I bought the toy seperatlly and he loves that too...
This book teaches about days of the week, numbers, food items, and the life cycle of a caterpillar.

She likes the caterpillar! 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I bought this for a girlfriend's daughter because it was one of my favorites growing up. I didn't realize that it came with a little stuffed very hungry caterpillar until I had it in my hands. But apparently it's the best part of the gift! She just turned one, loves her books, and now this one too!

Editorial Review:

One of the best-selling children's books of all time, The Very Hungry Caterpillar has been delighting young readers for over thirty years. Now packaged as a board book with a new plush doll, this classic book will continue to introduce new generations of children to the magical world of Eric Carle.

my 2.5 year old can't get enough of these books!!! i love reading them to her...they are quick and colorful! and what a great price for 3 of them!

Excellent little set, especially for the price! 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

The 'Brown Bear, Brown Bear What Do You See' book was recommended to me by both my 4 year old daughter's speech therapist and her teacher. In town just this book alone was priced at 7.95. I found the set here on Amazon.com and the price was just too good to pass up! All three of these books are great for helping teach proper sentence structure and pronoun usage with I and you. Brown Bear features colors, Polar Bear works on animal sounds and 'what do you hear?', and Panda Bear is 'what do you see' again with more specific animal names like a green sea turtle and a spider monkey. The art is timeless and the repetitive sentence structure enables your toddler or preschooler to read with you, making them fun as well as educational. While I initially bought this to help with some of my daughter's PDD challenges, since then these books have also been read to my 2 year old and she loves them too! I definitely recommend picking up this set!

for all ages 5 out of 5 stars.

My 2 year old granddaughter loved "Brown Bear, Brown Bear", so I knew she would like "Polar Bear, Polar Bear" The artwork is simple but attractive. The messages are short but very appropriate. As a former teacher, I would love to have used this book with third graders as an example of the use of specific verbs. They would have loved it just as Caitlin and my 9-month old grandson does. A great little book that can be used for many years and at many depths.

Introducing animals and their sounds 5 out of 5 stars.

I bought this book together with "Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?" a couple of days ago, and my 3y.o. kid loves them both. My son helps me read out loud and is learning complicated words like "boa constrictor". It's very simple and great for introducing new animals and new words (such as "roaring" or "hissing"), we have a lot of fun reading it together every day.

Editorial Review:

Children are encouraged to guess what the big, fluffy, white polar bear is hearing in a colorful successor to Brown Bear that is complemented by artwork by an award-winning illustrator.

Dream Snow 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

What a delightful book! Not only does it help develop a child's counting skills, but the pictures are wonderful and the surprise ending is sure to bring a smile! I not only have a copy of this book for my own child, but have given copies as gifts.

Not a huge Carle fan, but love this book 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

I find a lot of Eric Carle's books a bit humdrum, with the exception of Brown Bear, Brown Bear, so when my daughter was given this book for Christmas about five years ago, I thought it was all a bit gimmicky with its "tingle, tingle, tingle" noisy button at the end and plasticky, white-covered pages simulating snow.

But we read this thing over and over, and the rhythm of it was so gentle and the sounds of the book so hushed, that it was a metaphysical experience. In other words, I felt as though Carle was covering us with a white blanket of words. Ahh, the memories of the soft and slow pace bring back a smile.

Then the farmer suddenly realizes that he's forgotten something, and there's a flurry of activity (like a flurry of snow!!) as he rushes out to decorate the tree. Cap it all off with the "tingly" button, which gets pushed over and over and over and over, etc.

Anyway, the long and the short of all this is that I am buying a second copy for my family, having misplaced the original. I now have three other children who haven't been introduced to this lovely book, and I truly think your own children or grandchildren will find it a classic.

Editorial Review:

"Few in number are the parents who have made it through their toddler's years on just one copy of Carle's The Very Hungry Caterpillar. Dream Snow has similar ingredients: a simple story, lively collage-like illustrations and a fun gimmick for little hands..." (Time)

"This is a simple, well-told story about a simple farmer.... Viewers...will want to get their hands on it." (The Bulletin of the Center for Children's Books)

"Carle fans and toddlers learning the basics will...enjoy the gentle text and creative design features." (Booklist)

"The pictures are in Carle's trademark richly colored and textured collages that capture the snowy magic of Christmas." (Kirkus Reviews)

Two boys' review: We like The Very Hungry Caterpillar better 1 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

This book is eligible for Amazon's 4-for-3 promotion, so you are not risking a lot of money should you buy this book.

It isn't one of our favorites from Eric Carle. The story is supposed to address anger issues -- and it does -- by hitting you over the head as the ladybug flies from page to page trying to pick a fight with larger and larger animals.

The problem isn't the message it is the entertainment value. This book simply didn't engage our sons' interest. I suppose it is difficult enough to relate to a bug, much less an angry bug.

For our bedtime reading collection, we prefer these Carle books instead:

Editorial Review:

It's the Grouchy Ladybug's 20th birthday. To celebrate, we are introducing a new, larger format edition with brighter, more colorful pages created from Eric Carle's original artwork using the latest reproduction technology. The Grouchy Ladybug is bigger and brigher, as irascible but irresistable as ever and will surely delight new generations of readers, as well as her devoted fans of all ages. Fun Story with a Message 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

I think this is a fun story with a good message at the end. It's funny to see the creature the chameleon winds up being toward the end - before he decides to be himself. I'd put this on the list of recommended Carle books.

Mixed-Up Chameleon 5 out of 5 stars.

This product was a wonderful addition to my teaching arsenal for animal adaptions. I gave the students an humerous start to thinking about the real life adaptions organism have that helps them survive.

The Mixed-Up Chameleon Board Book 4 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

I enjoy reading this book not only to my 18 month old son but for myself.
At the moment he doesn't always sit for the whole book as it is a little long sometimes for a board book.
I feel this book encourages imagine and is simple enough for a toddler to understand!

Editorial Review:

Except for catching flies and changing colors occasionally, this chameleon doesn't find life very exciting. When a surprise visit to the zoo makes this wistful lizard realize it can change its shape and size as easily as its color, it ends up wanting to be like all the animals in the zoo at once--with hilarious results. Full-color illustrations.
