Unlike many guidebooks on the Netherlands that only highlight major cities, this book lists practically every city in the country. If you are looking to see the real Netherlands (beyond Amsterdam) this is the book. It also has really good color photos and a bonus fold-out map. My travel agent recommended the Baedeker series as the 'definitive' guidebook series, and the one he uses himself.

Excellent Travel Guide to Scotland 4 out of 5 stars.

This is one of the finest travel guides I've seen for Scotland. It contains a very detailed map of the entire country (rather than only parts), including road, rail and ferry routes, and covers the Highlands right up to Orkney and the Shetland Islands -- two places not well-covered in most books. More comprehensive than Fodor's or Frommer's guides to the country. The book would receive five stars if it included weather and climate information; otherwise, the comprehensive map and listings of contacts and places are excellent.

A Great Compact Guide to Tenerife 4 out of 5 stars.

As a person who has never visited Tenerife, I got this guide to help prepare me for my upcoming trip. I enjoyed all the valuable information about not only the island but also its inhabitants.

The book provides practical information that travelers need to know (i.e.- money conversion, voltage and wattage, etc) and it also provides information on local customs and dress codes that will help travelers become better acquainted with the people of Tenerife.

The guide suggests travel routes for exploring the island accompanied by a large pull-out map of the island. I feel that I am better prepared for my trip to Tenerife because of this book.

I like the Baedeker's books because they are chock full of information about both large and small cities and towns. My husband and I are overseas with the military so anytime we go somewhere, we throw this book in the car and find tons of interesting places that are off the beaten (tourist) path.

but if you see it in a 2nd hand shop, it might be a good buy.

This book is especially useful for those undertaking a motoring holiday in France. The included map is very useful, and obviates the need for another map if space and funds are limited. (We did however use a separate map - the Michelin road atlas, which is more detailed, and a good size to have in the car - as a book it doesn't need folding out and fold up constantly!)

The book has some general information about France - climatic, topographical, transport, society etc, and a section on History and Culture and Art. These are useful and quite interesting. The bulk of the book is an alphabetical listing of places. This section contains info on the sites in the town or area, and surrounding areas. There is a good scattering of colour photos, and some diagrams.

To compare the entry on Chartres between this and 'Eyewitness' : this book includes a photo of the cathedral, and a smallish diagram showing the main structures internally and descriptions of the Royal Doorway and stained glass. There is some brief locational and historical material about the city of Chartres and mentions the well-regarded Museum of Fine Arts. Eyewitness, by contrast, gives the address, phone no and opening times of the museum (might or might not be helpful, depending on accuracy!). Then follow two double pages on the cathedral - one containing a 3-D type photo with cut-away, discussing all the important features (with some pictured), and a double-page spread on the stained glasses, including a colour diagram and key to all the windows.
