Fun in the sun and air and water 5 out of 5 stars.
5 of 5 people found this review helpful.

Busy, colorful illustrations and dialog tells a story about photosynthesis. Mentions that plants get water from soil, air via holes in the leaves, and energy from the sun to make a kind of sugar. Explains that leaves are green because of the chloroplasts. A more detailed note at the end explains that the plants make carbohydrates from water, carbon dioxide gas, and sunlight. It mentions the holes in the leaves are called stomata and that water flows through xylem and sugars through the phloem. Karen Woodworth-Roman Children's Science Book Review

Editorial Review:

In a young reader's introduction to plants and the science behind how they grow, Ms. Frizzle's class searches for a beanstalk for the class play, and fans are invited to participate with the accompanying seeds, pots, and stickers. Original."

Fun Story but Short on Facts 4 out of 5 stars.
8 of 8 people found this review helpful.

I would give this a three, only my son loves this book because he loves anything about ants. We read Ms Cole`s MAGIC SCHOOL BUS VISITS A BEEHIVE back to back with this. The comparison is too great. It would be terrific to see a layout of the ant colony`s system of tunnels and chambers. Also, no mention is made of the drones: in the story Phoebe says "Without the queen, there wouldn`t be eggs," but without drones, there wouldn`t be eggs, either. I don`t know if they showed them in the television show, but there were no pictures of the pupae, nor the interesting fact that the ants stroke them and receive a tasty secretion in return. The book was interesting, but short on information; more so than some of the others adapted from the TV series. If your child wants to find out about ants there are better books out there.

Editorial Review:

The story The Magic School Bus Gets Ants in Its Pants is accompanied by everything needed to start a personal ant farm, including a plastic ant house, sand, and a send-away coupon for ants.

It's useful, but... 4 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

Arlo and Robby were good friends. They hanged out together but they also encountered a bully together. The story gives insight to children that life still moves on even if they are bullied. Reading the story, children learn to deal with bully troubles through support from their friendship. I an not comfortable with how these two boys ended their bully torubles. What if children apply the strategy to their real-life bully troubles but do not get the same desirable results? I suggest adults participation to discuss with young readers different potential endings that the story might have conclued. A fair and lucky result may not be what actually happens in a real life situation.

Editorial Review:

Illus. in full color. "Plagued by a bully named Eddie who steals their treats, Arlo and Robbie turn the tables on him by concocting an enticing lunch that is booby-trapped with hot sauce. The plot is sure to please and the reading is easy, with jaunty color cartoon drawings providing visual backup."--Booklist.

Cute 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

A nice, quick story about Fiona, who can't remember anything. Coming from a family of elephants (who, legend has it, never forget), this is a glaring problem. When she signs up for a class with her friend, Felicity, it's important to her that she remember, so her family helps her by suggesting things like using a calendar and tying a string around her trunk. That these tricks work, sort of, makes Aren't You Forgetting Something, Fiona? a neat teaching tool for little ones.

The text is simple for beginning readers and the illustrations are eye-catching for the read-to-me set.

Editorial Review:

With the help of her family, Fiona, who has trouble remembering even the simplest, everyday things, remembers to go to exercise class with her best friend.

2nd Graders Will LOVE this Liz Book! 5 out of 5 stars.
10 of 10 people found this review helpful.

I am a fourth grader in Lockport, NY. My name is Tiffany. I helped my teacher, Ms. Fletcher, by reading this book and deciding if 2nd graders would like to read it. I think that 2nd graders would LOVE to read this Liz book. Let me tell you about this book: It was Keesha's turn to take Liz home for the weekend. Carlos came over to help paint a rainbow on the wall. They made a rainbow for Keesha's grandma on the wall with only three colors - red, blue, and yellow. My favorite part is when Liz fell into the paint.

A Great book on the Life Cycle of a Trout 5 out of 5 stars.

I raise Trout eggs in my 4th grade classroom, through a grant from California Fish and Game. This book is VERY useful in the explaination of the Trout's life cycle and the life from a hatchery. It explains the life cycle in simple terms. My students love it!
