Superb, simple explanation of plant life. 5 out of 5 stars.
24 of 24 people found this review helpful.

This book's big, colorful illustrations and simple language do a superb job of explaining subjects such as plant reproduction, seed dispersal, pollen transference, and seed germination. Although intended for a younger audience, I read this book aloud to my fourth grade students to quickly build their background knowledge.

Perfect for teaching about seeds. 5 out of 5 stars.

This is an excellent book for younger students (K-3) about seeds and plants. I am using it as part of my summer school reading/writing program. First, I read the book to the students and we planted little radish seeds (they grow quickly) in see-through plastic cups. Later, the students read the book out loud to one another and we discussed the seed to plant concept. They also kept a journal to record their observations of their seeds with illustrations about every other day. This book presents a great opportunity to combine reading, writing and science.

Super Duper Plant Book 5 out of 5 stars.

Great for primary introduction to plants and a must have nonfiction book for teachers ~ very informational.

A simple yet appealing book about the life cycle of trees 5 out of 5 stars.
5 of 5 people found this review helpful.

Written and illustrated by Gail Gibbons, Tell Me, Tree: All About Trees For Kids is a simple yet appealing book about the life cycle of trees for beginning readers. The informative text is enhanced throughout with color illustrations teaching young people about the parts of the tree and how it grows, as well as how to identify some of the more common trees of North America. Tell Me, Tree is a very highly recommended and educational book of fun facts for grades 1 through 3.

All about trees 5 out of 5 stars.

Solid intro to basic concepts regarding trees. I occasionally wished Gibbons would have chosen the more scientifically correct term than a common, but less specific word. Includes an identification guide for various trees and shows young naturalists how to make their own tree identification book (pressing leaves, leaf and bark rubbings, and drawings). Great book for young students learning about weather. 5 out of 5 stars.
17 of 17 people found this review helpful.

I am a student teahcer. When I had to plan a unit for my kindergarteners about weather, I did not know how to teach it on their level. This book really helped me to come up with the right words to help the students understand what I was trying to get across to them. GREAT BOOK!!! I checked it out from the library at the school I am working at; however, I WILL be getting my own personal copy. Thank you Gail!!!

One of the BEST books about weather for the elementary set 5 out of 5 stars.

I checked out a gob of weather books when teaching my first-graders. This one was by far the best. It explained the weather in a simple, easy manner with wonderful illustrations. But it was not a 'baby' book. The author covered a wide variety of weather topics in language that engaged and taught. In a few short, clear sentences we were able to learn how to identify clouds or the types of wind and rain storms. I plan on purchasing this book since it will be used over and over for reference and for just plain fun.

A great way to explain the weather! 5 out of 5 stars.

Gail Gibbons has the best books for kids. I can see why educators use this books in the classroom. The concepts are broken down into easily understandable parts; great for little kids!

The polar bear is the biggest and most powerful of the animals that are able to survive the hostile climate of the Arctic. Cubs are born during the cold dark winter, even though they start out with only a thin coat of fur and weigh a little over one pound. The mothers raise and teach them so they may grow and survive in the wild. Here is information about how polar bears swim and hunt, how they keep warm and dry, and the many other ways they adapt to their environment.

Great Book about Frogs 5 out of 5 stars.

Gail Gibbons once again provides an excellent nonfiction book that can be easily understood by elementary school students. I read this book to second and third graders each year. My only quibble is with the use of the word "vegetarian" instead of "herbivore". I love the diagram that compares frogs and toads. Consider pairing this book with Arnold Lobel's Frog and Toad books.

A good overview of basic hand tools and their use. 4 out of 5 stars.
13 of 13 people found this review helpful.

My 22 month old son loves this book. He brings it to me or my wife several times a day for reading. Not much text, good illustrations. Tools are grouped by function (tools that make holes, tools that measure etc.). A few of the tools are obsolete (like the bit & brace) but can be found in the workshops of grandparents.

Great for the little carpenter 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

My 3-year-old loves this book. It covers in clear illustrations and simple words most of the tools that a carpenter or a do-it-yourselfer owns. There aren't any power tools, so it's a little dated, but it's the best book of this type that I've found for the little guys.

Editorial Review:

Depicts a number of different tools used in building and the kinds of work they are used for.
