I think this is great novel and most teenagers would love it 5 out of 5 stars.

Norma Klein Brings out the truth about first romances, the troubles of growing up, the fears of going off to college, exercising your mind more than your body, and taking in the truth about something you have to live with for the rest of your life. The book is about a young lady named Augie Lloyed who falls in love with Sam Feldman, a rich, gorgeous former athlete from California, who has been put into a wheelchair because of a car accident in California.

I personally love this book because a lot of subjects like sex, or leaving home, and friends being gay are talked about openly and freely. These subjects are hard for some people to talk about openly because some of your peers will think differently of you since now they know you're gay or you had sex with this one person. Also Norma Klein shows true meaning in teenage life. I would give this more than five stars!

Editorial Review:

Eighteen-year-old Augie, very bright and very tall, thinks that she is never going to experience either sex or love, until she starts tutoring a boy suffering partial paralysis from an accident.

If you liked Judy Blume's "Forever..." 5 out of 5 stars.

I read this when I was in the 8th grade, and oh my lord it was too hot for my virgin eyes. A lot of graphic sex and language is in store for you, so beware. Leda is a New York psycho hose beast, and Joel is a shy/quiet virgin nerd. We all know what happens with the quiet ones, don't we? I loved this book, and I still read it today. I recommend it only to those ages 15 and up.

Certainly opened my eyes as a young teenager 4 out of 5 stars.

I read this book when I was 14, it was the type of book that young girls giggled about and passed round the class to read then held many a discussion, following the reading of the book, during lunch hours.

The book contains many detailed descriptions of both having sex for the first time and learning how to deal with the complications that may arise from maybe 'growing up too fast'.

Leda and Joel are 2 young teenagers experiencing sexual behaviour for the first time and the book tells how they come to terms with young sex.......

This book is great and I would highly recommend reading it.

Editorial Review:

A frank, contemporary novel about a young couple experiencing love and sexual awakening for the first time. With candor and grace, BEGINNERS' LOVE explores the excitement and joy of a new relationship as well as the problems that can arise when two people are old enough for passion but too young to deal with its complications.

Unexpected Young Adult Literature 5 out of 5 stars.
3 of 4 people found this review helpful.

Norma Klein is one of the most important authors of Y/A fiction since Judy Blume. Her books realistically portray the lives of young women and men, and are entertaining as well. It's Not What You Expect is no exception. It is a wonderfully told story of a summer in the lives of two twins who are adjusting to the facts about their parents and life in general. The fact that the book depicts an abortion in a matter-of-fact way is unusual, but realistic and affirming to many women. Klein shows that abortion is not necessarily a traumatic experience as many anti-choicers would have people believe. Anyway, it is only one aspect of this entertaining book. I'm only sorry that it's out of print. Seek it, and any other Norma Klein books out in used bookstores and on Amazon.com. Her books are worthwhile and even challenging depictions of the lives of realistic young people. Another reviewer is obviously disturbed by the sexual content of the book, but needs to join the real world. Teens have sex-the important thing is to help them make good decisions about sex, not to try to prevent them from reading about it.

Editorial Review:

At loose ends the summer their parents separate, fourteen-year-old twins open and operate a restaurant with the help of their friends.

Realistic. 5 out of 5 stars.
4 of 5 people found this review helpful.

This was one of the greatest books I have ever read. Norma Klein's books are so honest and open. All of her books are very realistic because she understands that not everyone's life is perfect. Her books don't make you feel bad that your life is not as good as the characters. I find the people in her books, especially Jody in "It's OK if You Don't Love Me" very easy to relate to. This book is an excellent prtrayal of young love and the confusion that goes along with sex. The first time I read this I was 12. I definetly recommend this to mature preteens as well as older teens.

Finally, a young Adult book that actually depicts real life! 5 out of 5 stars.

I read this book about 5 or 6 years ago, and it made me so sad to think that relationships could actually end up this way. I went back and read it again after I broke up with my non monogamous and inadequate boyfriend, and I laughed at the reality of the story. I hate to sound cynical, but do think that this book prepares girls for the inevitable sexual relationship disappointments in their future. It's a great life manual for girls, along with Judy Blume's "Forever... "

Editorial Review:

New Yorker Jody has what she thinks is a very liberated view of sex, while Midwesterner Lyle still thinks love means having to say you're sorry. "The trauma and confusion of the sexual coming-of-age by a liberated woman is presented with skill and understanding." LIBRARY JOURNAL

Good book, but not always realistic! 4 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

I disagree with the person who said this book causes moral decay. They are obviously ultra-religious and need to put their Bible away.

Love is One of the Choices is a pretty good book. Maggie and Todd's romance is very realistic, while Justin and Caroline's moves too quickly and is too much like a fairy tale. I didn't like how quickly she gave her virginity to him and how quickly they got married.

But overall, this is a story about two girls becoming women, and not just sexually. Caroline's insecurities and Maggie's facade is very realistic, and I do wish Ms. Klein would write a book about their lives 10 years from then. I think it would be interesting to see what happens.

A Blast from the Past 4 out of 5 stars.

I'm sorry to see that this book is out of print, as it was one of my favorites many years ago, when I was about 10 years old (possibly younger). I was considered an intelligent, precocious child, so it was exciting for me to read about "older girls" who seemed smart and strong-minded, and were facing adult challenges. I certainly didn't find it to have a corrupting influence in any way; I was inspired by the heroines, especially Maggie, whose wit leapt off the page. I recall trying to read other books by Norma Klein, but this was the only one that I thought was really well-done.

Editorial Review:

Senior year in high school brings emotional turmoil, sexual awakening, and some painful decisions for Maggie and Caroline; one an ardent feminist and the other a shy dreamer in a fantasy world.

A great favorite 5 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

This is one of my all-time favorite children's books. I own a hardcopy and a paperback, and have read it several times over the years.

It's the story of a mother and daughter living alone together. The mother finds a hairy boyfriend that the daughter nicknames "The Wolfman." The story progresses as The Wolfman becomes more and more a part of their lives, until he finally moves in. This book is one of the earliest children's books to deal with a single mother and a live-in boyfriend. But the story is handled gracefully, and the child is fully accepting of the situation. If anything, the awkwardness of the adults makes the child want to make them more comfortable with the situation.

I highly recommend for either children, or for adult light (very light) reading.

Editorial Review:

An eleven-year-old girl describes her life and relationship with her mother who has never married.
