Encourages a Kid's Healthy Lifestyle 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

I am a fan of the Little Critter Series for my two year old and this is one of the most positive storylines. In this age of childhood obesity, this is a great book for our kids. The book starts with Little Critter's question, "Why are carrots better for me than cookies?" The teacher replies, "Because carrots have vitamins to help you grow. Cookies just taste good." From there Little Critter engages his family and friends to a healthy lifestyle of eating good foods and fun exercise.

Take a look at some of my other Little Critter favorites: All By Myself, The New Baby, Just Me and My Dad, Just a Snowman, Just a New Neighbor and Me Too.

Two Great Lessons 5 out of 5 stars.

This is a wonderful story with excellent illustrations. (look for that spider & mouse) It explains to little ones why it's important to eat healthy and that you don't need to WIN every competition....just have fun.

Editorial Review:

At school, Little Critter learns all about having a healthy lifestyle -- from a balanced diet and the food pyramid to exercises that keep him in shape. Now Little Critter can showhis family how to stay fit and have fun doing it!

I buy the book for linguistic purposes, but as a reader I enjoyed it very much, it is not colored as Mercer Mayer's new series on Little Critters however it warms your heart and make you smile. An excellent example of story telling without any words.

Frog, Where Are You? 5 out of 5 stars.

Great for my work with children that have language deficits or delays.

Editorial Review:

Mercer Mayer's classic wordless tales of a boy and his animal pals are now available in attractive, low-priced hardcover editions. These delightfully funny books follow a young boy as he romps through the woods, making mischief and new friends along the way. This series launched Mercer Mayer's distinguished career over twenty-five years ago, and is just as fresh and appealing today.

Mercer Mayer is considered one of the creators of the wordless picture book form. A Boy, a Dog and a Frog was his very first published book. Since then he has gone on to create the classic There's a Nightmare in My Closet, the wildly popular Little Critter series, and many more beloved books for children.

A Great Knight Tale! 5 out of 5 stars.
4 of 4 people found this review helpful.

This book is great for the child who loves knights, but isn't ready for a lot of text. In typical Mercer Mayer manner, a lot of the story, and all of the humor, is found in the illustrations.

For those who might be sensitive, be aware that the knight who the boy is squire for, gets killed by the bad guy at the end of the book, prompting the boy to decide he doesn't want to be a knight after all. The death of the knight is implied, and not shown.

Editorial Review:

I wish I lived a thousand years ago. There would be beautiful castles, kings and queens, good knights, bad knights, fair ladies in danger, evil dragons from the mountains, and a giant troll that roars and eats anything.

What kid hasn’t dreamed of living in fairy-tale times—hasn’t imagined himself as the bravest knight in all the land (or at least the knight’s faithful squire). As he has done in his celebrated There’s a Nightmare in My Closet and its follow-ups, Mercer Mayer brings childhood fantasy hilariously to life here. Bad knights are forced to pick flowers for the king, a day’s adventure involves rescuing a cat from a tree, and our hero boldly fights a fire-breathing dragon using his trusty slingshot.

This silly charmer, originally published in 1968 as Terrible Troll, has been entirely redone in vivid color. It’s a rediscovered gem with timeless appeal.

One of our favorites 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

This book was a favorite of our daughter, the youngest of three girls, who often felt like saying, "Me, too!" This past Christmas she gave a copy to her little niece, our first grandchild. All of the Mercer Mayer books capture childhood experiences in brief but highly readable formats that children can readily relate to.

Very sweet 5 out of 5 stars.

My son is 3.5 years old and his sister is one year old so playing together nicely and sharing toys are big issues at the moment. My son likes very much this book series by Mercer Mayer and "Me Too!" is not an exception. He relates to the book's subject and he enjoys its' end very much since it shows that there can be a silver lining to all his big brother troubles.

Editorial Review:

Mercer Mayer's funny and popular Little Critter is learning to get along with his younger sister in this picture-book classic. When Little Critter goes off with his friends, his little sister wails, "Me, too!" When Little Critter eats a piece of cake, he has to share it with his hungry sister. It seems as if Little Critter's responsibilities as a big brother will never end. Then comes the day when his little sister learns to share. Little Critter sees a ray of hope. Maybe his little sister is growing up!

An excellent wordless book 5 out of 5 stars.
10 of 10 people found this review helpful.

I love this book! While all of Mercer Mayer's wordless frog books are delightful, this is definitely my favorite. A picture is definitely worth a thousand words in this case. From beginning to end every characters' thoughts and emotions are perfectly clear. The illustrations are delightful and the characters' body language and facial expressions are wonderfully expressive. Even very young children can look at this book and understand what is going on.

Editorial Review:

Following the re-release of the first three books in this beloved series, here are the final three classic wordless tales in attractive, low-priced hardcover editions. A Boy, a Dog, and a Frog, the first book in this series, launched Mercer Mayer's distinguished career over twenty-five years ago, and also helped to create the wordless picture book genre. Full of warmhearted mischief and play, the books express the humorous trials and tribulations of friendship and the joy of summertime discovery. Readers will want to collect the entire set.

good but not very special 3 out of 5 stars.

We like the Mercer Mayer books but this one was a little dull. My daughter much prefers the Sesame St potty traing book with Ernie... I think it is called Too Big For Diapers.

Good for getting ready to potty train 4 out of 5 stars.

My two year old son enjoyed reading this book, it has kept his attention. It has helped him learn about potty basics. He gets the concept but still isn't that ready to be a willing participant in the potty process. It is a fun book for us to read together.

potty training books for kids 5 out of 5 stars.

If you like the Little Critter series and you are currently potty training then this is the book for you. As usual Mercer Mayer deals with a subject in a humorous and fun way that kids will enjoy.

Great book for a toddler 5 out of 5 stars.

My 2 1/2 year old loves these books by Mercer Mayer. Her first book was the I Was So Mad (Look-Look) book and we had to read it every night and she slept with it. I bought this book and several others by Mercer Mayer and she loves them just as much. They are nice because they are affordable and in paperback which makes them easy to bring along on trips. They also all seem to have simple, fun, and easy to understand messages for a toddler and they touch upon the different feelings and experiences a toddler is going through. She also loves the The New Baby book which was great for when her little sister joined the family.

Editorial Review:

Little Critter sure knows how to be a good big brother! He even helps his little sister learn how to use the new potty.

A Good Book for Pre-readers... 4 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

As a mom of two emerging readers (one 3, one 5) I have done alot of research into how children learn to read and this summer I am in hot pursuit of books that will help them practice.

One of the key skills that appears over and over in the literature is the ability to get 'clues' as to what is going on in the story from the pictures that accompany the text. This is one of the reasons I like this book. Without words, it allows my youngsters to practice their pre-reading skills of analyzing and interpreting what pictures mean.

The other reason, of course, is that this book is simply delightful. The drawings are detailed and funny and they keep my children coming back for more. A cute addition for a family's bookshelves.

[Don't forget to check out Tomie dePaola's wordless books as well.]

Good Reading reference books: "Reading Magic" by Mem Fox; " Raising Lifelong Learners" by Lucy McCormick; and the comprehensive if more cumbersome, "Beginning to Read: Thinking and Learning about Print" by Marilyn Jager Adams.

I have purchased several of these books. My children and now my grandchildren enjoyed reading these books especially at age 3-7.I enjoy them also. They are illustrated well.Just long enough for them to not lose interest.

Mayer does it again! 4 out of 5 stars.

My 5 year old son has loved Mercer Mayer stories since his first one, "When I Get Bigger", that I started reading to him when he was just a baby. Over the years, we have amassed quite a collection of these stories, and as his interests change, we are ususally able to find a book by Mercer Mayer on the subject. The stories are fun and quirky, but generally send a message about situations you may find yourself in out in the world. I will continue to buy these stories hopefully for years to come.

Editorial Review:

Little Critter's class is going to the Critterville Museum of Natural History, and everyone is excited. But when the class arrives, they find out the dinosaur exhibit is closed because of a missing Triceratops bone. Join Little Critter as he searches the Hall of Gems and Minerals, climbs the trees in the rain forest, and sneaks around the Planetarium—all to solve the mystery of the lost dinosaur bone.
