The best counting book ever! 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

This book is wonderful! The pictures are very colorful and peaceful to look at. Just as important, the flow and rhythm of the book is amazingly catching. I have had the entire book memorized for years, and that is without even trying.

I loved the book at 5, and I still love it at 27. I had this book as a kid, and I give it to all my friends who have children.

If you know someone who is learning to count, or someone who is a child at heart, this is the perfect book for them!

A must have! 5 out of 5 stars.

I was cautious at first, but this book is such a treasure! Great teaching aide, made easy for children to learn. Adorable illustrations.
My one and a half yr. old loves it. This is the best counting book!!!

Sweet and engaging 5 out of 5 stars.

The pictures are really engaging, ss with most books illustrated by Garth Williams.
The book counts from 1 to 10, so is suitable for the younger child/toddler. The rhymes for each number are really sweet.

Editorial Review:

Count to ten with the most adorable animals illustrated by Garth Williams! Start with one roly-poly puppy and end with ten nuts from Little Squirrel. The rhythmic text and charming pictures makes counting as easy as 1, 2, 3. . .

Editorial Review:

Mr. Pine makes signs: "stop," "go," "pets for sale," "gas, 33 cents" (this book was first published in 1961), and more. Little Town is, in fact, plastered with the industrious painter's handiwork, ensuring social order in the way that signs do: "Yes, Little Town had all the signs a town could need." However, when the mayor deems it time to replace the aging, sunbaked, windblown signs, trouble begins. Mr. Pine is pleased to make new signs for the town: "The next week Mr. Pine painted and painted and painted." All would have been well if Mr. Pine had not lost his glasses and installed all the new signs in the wrong places. The sign on the mayor's door said, "This Way to the Zoo!" The sign over the bank said "Bread!"

Children will adore Leonard Kessler's short chapter books. The stories are simple and winning, and the books were designed with the early reader in mind--plenty of white space, lots of pictures, short, repetitive sentences, and only a few words per page. We're thrilled that Mr. Pine's Mixed-Up Signs is back in print along with its companion Mr. Pine's Purple House. A classic! (Ages 3 to 8) --Karin Snelson

The Thing in the Pool 4 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I enjoyed the original version Little Raccoon and the Thing in the Pool when I was a little kid, but this book is even better. It deals with little Raccoon's journey to the pool after his mother told him to bring some crayfish for supper. So he goes to the pool and sees himself reflected in the water. He is scared and comes home without the supper, but later on he goes back, gets the crayfish and the book gets its happy end. A great book for every kid up to 5 years.

A Grandma's Favorite 5 out of 5 stars.

My own children enjoyed the original version Little Raccon and the Thing in the Pool. My granddaughter loved the newer version, Little Raccoon's Nighttime Adventure. When you read to a child, you're sure to get to do it over and over. There are few books that don't become tedious with repetition, and this is one of them. It was such fun to watch the light of understanding come on in each child's eyes as they realized that little raccoon had been afraid of his own reflection. The gentle, underlying message is that we often fear what we don't understand and that it's better to face the unknown with a smile than a scowl. This is a book with a good "so what," written in such a way that children can draw the conclusion themselves.jdk@acc-net.com

Eager to go alone to the stream for crayfish, Little Raccoon becomes afraid when he sees a strange thing in the water.

Editorial Review:

A fun fright-fest for any time of the year There’s always something lurking in the spooky-but-fun urban world of these poems. Maybe it’s a lost dragon (a wizard’s loving pet—please return if found!) or a twelve-toed creature, or perhaps it’s a monster celebrating his birthday. Whatever is there, it’s sure to delight readers at any time of the year.

Teaching kids about relationships 4 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

Hooray for Me! was first published in 1969. In 2007, Tricycle Press introduces the new paperback edition to another generation of children. Author Remy Charlip is an artist, dancer, theater director and choreographer. Lilian Moore authored many books for children. Vera B. Williams is the author of such Caldecott Honor books as A Chair for My Mother and "More More More," Said the Baby.

Hooray For Me! is a book for children where they can begin to look at and think about relationships with people and themselves. The Me is them as a son, daughter, mother, sister, friend, etc. It may be confusing for young children at first, but as they read the book and grow a bit older, the concept of Me (relationships) will become clearer.

This book is a good way to share the knowledge of Me and relationships and build a sense of who they are.

Armchair Interviews says: A fun book that will be viewed differently by different age groups.

Editorial Review:

The book in which renowned author/illustrator Vera B. Williams made her illustrating debut offers young readers a celebratory look at their own special place in the world. Charlip's poetry sparkles while Williams's world of colorful people perfectly captures the joy that comes when we are free to be ourselves. This is a great book to share with children who are just starting to wonder who they are in relation to others.
