Beautiful and pretty durable for a pop-up 5 out of 5 stars.

We bought this book two years ago, I fianlly packed them in my daughter's keepsake box. We loved these - they are simply beautiful.

Beautiful little book 5 out of 5 stars.

This has rapidly become my 22-month-old granddaughter's favorite book. We all love the charming and beautifully designed popups, especially the last one, "all colors". A bit fragile, but that just means it is a teaching opportunity on how to take care of fragile, beautiful things.

Editorial Review:

If only words could describe Chuck Murphy's Color Surprises as well as his gasp-inducing pop-ups manage to capture the essence of each color of the rainbow. Each page of this little wonder--one of the best, most artistic pop-up books we've ever seen--features a single, solid-colored square. With a quick pull or gentle push, however, one of nature's creatures slithers, flies, or bounces out of the square and (almost) off the page. Red is a gracefully unfolding starfish, and blue is a pleasantly popping parrot. We'd love to give the rest away, but half the pleasure of this fine book is in the discovery. A great gift for any adult on your list, but kids who like animals (meaning all kids) will love it, too. (Ages 3 to 103)

Sturdy and Fun 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

My 15 month old son loves to pull the shapes and enjoys this colorful book. It is very interactive and sturdy for a busy boy. Some of the slide books we have didn't last long but this one is certainly well made. Highly recommend.

Shapes 5 out of 5 stars.

My son likes it for the pull out tabs that reveal a drawing of an object that illustrates the shape drawn on the page. The shapes included are: circle, square, triangle, rectangle, oval, heart and diamond. While the illustrations are as simple and straightforward as the limited vocabulary used in this book, they are still beautifully drawn. Rather that use solid colors for the shapes, each one has a subtle gradient to give it more pop. The real world objects are drawn in greater detail than the shapes so that they stand out. The illustrations included are: a tricycle, a quilt, a watermelon, a triangle instrument, a valentine and a kite.

I like that the book throws in some words that my son doesn't know straight away to give him something new to work on. He has learned "quilt" and "valentine" while reading this book to me.

Dazzled 5 out of 5 stars.

My son loved this book so much he destroyed it. It is a very sturdy book, but he read it so many times it finally fell to pieces. I just bought him a new copy--what more can I say.

This author is brilliant!! 5 out of 5 stars.

All of his seek n slide books are amazing and I highly recommend them. My daughter knew all her colors, shapes, numbers and opposites before the age of 2 because of these books. Opposites, just like the others, are made specifically for a younger child. I would say 9mo -3 yrs old. My daughter LOVES to pull the slide tabs out and they are very sturdy and have held up to constant pulling. These books teach by reinforcing what is learned in the pull tab. It is a great memory game as well. Chuck Murphy knows how to make books that younger kids will not only appreciate but actually learn fast!

Great for kids! 5 out of 5 stars.

My child loves this book - especially since he loves the sun and moon. The slide outs are really a fun way for them to learn their opposites.

You will both enjoy this book... 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

My 2 1/2 year old daughter loves this book. She has come into our bedroom with it every morning for over two weeks now wanting it read to her. (She has gotten so good with it she reads it to her Pooh Bear.) The pop-ups can be delicate, so we tell her it is a "family book" to read together, just like all the Sabuda books she loved over the holidays. To date there has been no damage but for a folded Ibis beak, even with curious little fingers. My main reason for writing a review is this...SHE HAS LEARNED THE ALPHABET from this book. Not just singing the song, but actually recognizing the letters now on signs, other books, everywhere. We've got other books, Dr. Suess's ABC's, Eating the Alphabet, etc. but THIS is the one that held her interest day after day. The contrast between the bold letters and the page without embellishments makes character recognition easier for her.

Editorial Review:

Beautiful and graceful pop-up baby animals hide behind bold black and white letters in this new paper-engineering marvel from Chuck Murphy. Each spread includes four lift-the-flap or pull-tab letters and four wondrous pop-up scenes. Readers can lift the letter B and discover a baby baboon out for a walk with its mother. Or, they may pull-the-tab and the letter D and encounter an amazing pop-up dinosaur baby.
Bold black and white graphics combined with vibrant color pop-up surprises this design scheme is a "signature" Murphy style. Deceptively simple on the surface, each Murphy book contains hidden treasures that always delight and amaze readers of all ages.

This sweet board book is just the right size for little hands. I purchased it for my one year old and she adores the bright pictures and shiny mirror like effects on every page! The rhyming text is short and simply worded, and toddlers are enchanted with the illustrations of this fantastic book! Bravo, Chuck Murphy! Encore!

Another winner from Chuck Murphy 4 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

My baby loves this book, especially the final pop-up for the number ten. She squeals with delight as I turn the pages. However, I think Color Surprises: A Pop-up Book is a slightly sturdier book. The large numbers which the reader opens on each page are a little flimsy.

Editorial Review:

Creator and engineer of the elegant Color Surprises and Black Cat, White Cat: A Pop-Up Book of Opposites, Chuck Murphy has also crafted an amazingly simple yet beautiful counting book, One to Ten: Pop-Up Surprises! This counting book doesn't mess around with fancy rhymes or cutesy sheep--open the first spread and you'll see a bold, fat number one--white on black--right next to a bold black number two on a white page. Pull the number one down, and one tropical spotted frog swims off the page! Lift and turn the number two to the right, and two toucans pop out from a leafy nest. Three colorful beetles crawl out of the number three with the slide of a tab. You get the idea--Murphy's almost breathtaking pop-up surprises take readers all the way to the number ten. Pop-up book collectors and budding bean counters alike will revel in this instructive, interactive masterpiece. (Ages 4 and older) --Karin Snelson

This Book Is Worth the Hunt 5 out of 5 stars.
10 of 10 people found this review helpful.

My six-month old loves this book. We have several of Chuck Murphy's Razzle Dazzle books, and so far this one seems to be her favorite. The book features children searching for Easter eggs in various locations. Each page has a simple phrase that describes the picture, such as "UNDER the flowerpot" or "IN the grass", and each Easter egg is a colorful, foil-like insert on the page. It's a great book for introducing reading to a child... Colorful, lots to talk about with the child, and just the right number of pages to maintain attention. And it's a nice, chunky board book too, so I can give it to my daughter to play with independently without having her tear it.

There are much better books out there 2 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

If you are looking for a book about colors, or you are interested in a book that has sliding features, there are plenty of other books out there that are MUCH better than this one. The pictures are nothing special and the quality is terrible. We got this as part of a 4-book box set, and all the books came apart rather easily. My daughter was pulling a slide when it ripped through the page and I was unable to repair it so it could work again. The pages themselves got worn fairly easily as well. Once the slides fall apart and tears the page, the book is pretty worthless. I don't recommend these books. Our local dump now has our copy.

Great Baby Book 5 out of 5 stars.

My 2 1/2 year old nephew had a great time pulling out the slides on the pages. It will take some time for him to learn the colors, but he likes the activity offered by this book.

Great book 5 out of 5 stars.

A nicely illustrated pop-up based on the Disneyland ride. 4 out of 5 stars.
19 of 19 people found this review helpful.

The Haunted Mansion pop-up book is based on famous Disneyland attraction. The art is quite nice and there are lots of "pop-ups." There is even a hologram inside! Some of the ghostly inhabitants are a little scary for really young kids but all in all it's a nice book even if you aren't a Haunted Mansion enthusiast.

No new ground covered 2 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

This pop up is not as exciting as it could be -- a pedestrian representation of the Haunted Mansion at Disneyworld. Still, may be good for kids who either loved the attraction, or for parents who want to introduce their kids to the attraction prior to going to the park. For a more interesting take on pop ups, try Hauntion Mansion by Jan Pienkowski a much better pop up.

Editorial Review:

A spooky book based on the popular theme park attraction takes daring young readers on a private tour through a haunted manor house, where they encounter a ghoulish creature in a coffin, a decaying portrait, a fortune teller, and the backyard cemetery.

Don't Bother 1 out of 5 stars.
2 of 3 people found this review helpful.

The book is very misleading. On the outside it appears to have several pages of popups, but on opening the book, there are several illustrations, but only one popup scene of the entire cantina. The author should have given the reader several diffirent popup scenes.

Editorial Review:

A lavish pop-up book brings readers to the hip-hop Mos Eisley Cantina on the planet Tatooine, where bounty hunters, scam artists, fugitives, and spies gather together, and a final spread features lights, gunfire, and cantina music.
