My kids love this book! 4 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

From my point of view It is the same as the "if you give a..." series and if you have read one you read them all, but if you love cute kitties, cupcakes and sprinkles then this is the one to get. My 2-1/2 year old son LOVES this book and my daughter and myself read it to him a few times everyday! We think this is the cutest one in the series.

Not as good as the others 2 out of 5 stars.

This book is not anywhere as good as the others she has written. It doesn't flow or make much sense. The transitions are very poor and it feels like something that was slapped together with out much thought.

Editorial Review:

If you give a cat a cupcake, he'll ask for some sprinkles to go with it. When you give him the sprinkles, he might spill some on the floor. Cleaning up will make him hot, so you'll give him a bathing suit . . . and that's just the beginning!

The lovable cat who first appeared in If You Give a Pig a Party now has his very own book! Written in the tradition of the bestselling If You Give a Mouse a Cookie, Laura Numeroff and Felicia Bond's newest story will show everyone that Cat is where it's at!

It was good because the end was the opposit of the beginning. You have to read the book to see what I mean. I'd tell you, but that would ruin the ending - review by Rick, age 6

Reaganomics for Kids! 1 out of 5 stars.
0 of 1 people found this review helpful.

This story revolves around a mouse who demands ever-increasing amounts of consumer items from an ever-increasingly exasperated boy. Cute pictures hide a terrible message of selfishness and class warfare boiling beneath American society. The whole book devolves into a crude political cartoon, where the boy symbolizes an innocent and hard-working tax payer while the mouse typifies a vile depiction of how the wealthy (or at least those who perceive themselves as wealthy) view the poor and needy. While the boy gives more and more to the mouse the mouse in turn asks more and more of the boy. It paints the situation as unjust and the mouse having little reason to ask for these handouts.

Terrible book. Don't read it to your kids.

Editorial Review:

This is a best selling book by Felicia Bond and Laura Numeroff. This is the story of the consequences of giving a cookie to an energetic mouse that runs the host ragged, but young readers will come away smiling at the antics that tumble like dominoes through the pages of this delightful picture book.

This is another cute story that was sent in great condition. Love the variety with each story presented by the author.

Grandchildren loved it! 5 out of 5 stars.

My daughter wrote me to tell me that the grandchildren made her read this book three times in a row and that my youngest grandson fell asleep holding the book! She said that they loved it--and that they laughed and laughed! High praise for any book!

Fun to read. We laughed out loud. 5 out of 5 stars.

I bought three of these "If You Give...." books at the same time, and they are hysterical. My four year old grandson loves them and my daughter and I laughed as we read them. I'm so glad I found these.

Don't Open The Door! 5 out of 5 stars.

If You Give A Moose a Muffin
By Laura Joffe Numeroff
Illustrated by Felicia Bond

"If you give a moose a muffin, he'll want some jam to go with it."

You should know better than to feed a moose. Don't you know one muffin will never fill him up? When a moose comes over to play, the fun could last all day!
You and your children will love the antics of the moose, and the little boy who tries to feed him.

Precioso y divertido / Cute and fun 5 out of 5 stars.
6 of 7 people found this review helpful.

This book (in English) was one of the favorites of my best friend's little girl for years, and the simple premise of "be careful what you get yourself into" amuses even my grown friends. The story of the mouse who wants a cookie (which requires a glass of milk, which calls for ...) and can't stop there, is a familiar plot presented in a fresh way with fun illustrations. The Spanish translation has a very natural feel.

Editorial Review:

"If you give a pig a pancake, she'll want some syrup to go with it. You'll give her some of your favorite maple syrup. She'll probably get all sticky, so she'll want to take a bath." You get the idea. Baths lead to bubbles, bubbles lead to rubber ducks, rubber ducks lead to wanting a trip to the farm. If You Give a Pig a Pancake is a delightful exploration of the scenario "if you give an inch, they'll take a mile." But who could refuse the whims of this adorable piglet? Not us, and certainly not the pig's young caretaker. Parents will feel a familiar twinge as they witness the pig's increasingly elaborate demands, and kids will be delighted that the story circles back around to the original pancake. Laura Numeroff and illustrator Felicia Bond--well-loved creators of If You Give a Mouse a Cookie and If You Give a Moose a Muffin--succeed again in concocting a marvelously skewed study of cause and effect that inevitably results in a riotous read-aloud. Your kids will ask for this book again and again, and you won't want to refuse. (Ages 4 to 8) --Karin Snelson

Read to Your Child to Develop Bonding and Intellect! 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

Researchers constantly find that reading to children is valuable in a variety of ways, not least of which are instilling a love of reading and improved reading skills. With better parent-child bonding from reading, your child will also be more emotionally secure and able to relate better to others. Intellectual performance will expand as well. Spending time together watching television fails as a substitute.

To help other parents apply this advice, as a parent of four I consulted an expert, our youngest child, and asked her to share with me her favorite books that were read to her as a young child. If You Give a Moose a Muffin was one of her picks.

This humorous book has to be one of the most imaginative ever written and illustrated!

The premise starts with a child spotting a moose out the window in the back yard. The child beckons to the moose, gives the moose a muffin, opens the kitchen door, and lets the moose in. Holding the muffin in his teeth, the moose obviously seems to need some jam. The child opens the refrigerator and gets out the mother's homemade blackberry jam. The moose quickly starts eating the muffin, now that it has jam on it. Then another, and another . . . and another until they are all gone. He seems to want you to make some more.

One thing connects to another, and before the book ends the moose will get a sweater, make puppets, create the scenery, put on a puppet show, make a mess, clean up the mess, want some more jam, and still wants some more muffins.

The book works at several levels. First, the idea is simply to be a good hostess or host. That's something that all children need to learn. You should try to please your guest. Even if it is a moose!

Second, there is also an analogy to being a parent, helping a child. So your child can begin to see what it's like to be the caregiver.

Third, how do you accomplish things? Some you buy, some you make, and almost all have consequences. The book helps your child learn to connect the dots.

Fourth, the child and the moose make a terrible mess. No one gets excited, but they do take responsibility to clean up after themselves. Amen!

Fifth, one thing does lead to another. It is easy to get distracted. The circularity of the story helps your child remember what the purpose originally was, and not to get sidetracked.

Sixth, the book introduces ideas of activities you can do with your child. In fact, it's all right to put the book down and start doing those activities . . . or pick a time to do so.

All in all, you get a lot for your time and money.

The illustrations are wonderful in making the moose very human and humorous. The figures are vivid and clear, and are filled with warm, rich colors.

You can take the concept of the book and make up your own stories with your child. Then you could draw illustrations together and do the activities that you pick for the story. You could start with your child's favorite animal and food. If you give your dolphin a cookie, etc. In that way you can stimulate even more bonding and creativity. Have a ball!

Be sure to overcome your stalled thinking that only authors can come up with great stories that you'll both love. I'll bet your child and you can do a wonderful job!

Enjoy!

Editorial Review:

If a big hungry moose comes to visit, you might give him a muffin to make him feel at home. If you give him a muffin, he'll want some jam to go with it. When he's eaten all your muffins, he'll want to go to the store to get some more muffin mix.

In this hilarious sequel to If You Give a Mouse a Cookie, the young host is again run ragged by a surprise guest. Young readers will delight in the comic complications that follow when a little boy entertains a gregarious moose."From the first toss of a muffin to the final scene in which the day's activities culminate in a messy array and the story comes full circle, readers gladly follow a moose and . . . young boy in this lively sequel to If You Give a Mouse a Cookie."—SLJ.

A WONDERFUL book by a great author 5 out of 5 stars.
4 of 4 people found this review helpful.

My kids love Laura Numeroff books anyway, but this has to be one of their all time favorites. My two-year-old quotes this book all the time, and if we ever want to make her laugh, we just recite a few verses. It is perfect for bedtime, and one that definitely belongs in every child's library. The illustrations are wonderful, too.

Good and bad 4 out of 5 stars.
3 of 4 people found this review helpful.

I'd rather give this a 3.5...

Good: Charming drawings, fun whimsicality, nice rhyming

Bad: Storyline kind of dropped in and out for me. First it was about what doesn't happen "dogs don't wear sneakers", then it was about imagining things that don't happen and finally it mentioned dreaming. It just didn't quite flow for me.

Editorial Review:

Dogs don't wear sneakers;
And pigs don't wear hats
And dresses look silly
On Siamese cats.

So goes Laura Numeroff's lively laugh-along text that explores the many ways in which you and I differ from our furred, feathered and finny friends.

Joe Mathieu's hilarious illustrations bring all the unlikely creatures to life in this book that challenges the reader to dream up more characters for this delightful menagerie.
