Amelia Bedelia is Job Hunting, Look Out! 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

When Amelia Bedelia, the housekeeper who literally takes everything literally, brings Mrs. Rogers her cereal with coffee, the woman takes one look at those flakes floating around in her coffee cup and fires Amelia before she gets a chance to fill her creme puffs. Amelia, one who always sees the bright side of life, sets out to find a job. First she goes to work in a beauty shop, but when she's told to pin up a customer's hair and does it with pins from her purse, she is fired. Then she finds work in a dress shop as a seamstress, but she shortens all the dresses with a scissors and is fired. As a file clerk, she stamps on the letters with her feet when told to stamp them and files papers with a fingernail file when told to file them. And when she goes to work for a doctor, well, you'll just have to read this book to your child to find out what mischief she gets into there. Fortunately she makes a terrific cream puff, because when she remembers she forgot to fill them and goes by the Rogers', they hire her back, because those cream puffs are just oh so good.

My son Devon is fast approaching three. He knows his letters, upper and lower case. He knows they make words and he loves to sit while I read Amelia Bedelia stories to him. We've been doing it for over a year now. At first I made up the story line as his didn't have the attention span or the ability to understand. Now I've started reading, pointing to the words as I go along. Ms. Parish has written an excellent series for children and in this one, Wallace Tripps illustrations set off Amelia's tales to a tee. If you want your toddler to read early, and I do, then this is a series for you.

Editorial Review:

In this vibrant edition, newly recolored by the original illustrator, Amelia Bedelia's job search gets her into another ‘homonym hot seat because she does what she's told'literally. For example, she gets a job as a file clerk, only she takes out a nail file and shreds the papers she's supposed to file away! The comic convolutions are endless and endlessly enjoyable.'The Baton Rouge Advocate Magazine.

Check it out from the library, but don't buy it. 3 out of 5 stars.

The book I am reading is "Good Work Amelia Bedelia," by Peggy Parish. I think everybody should read this book because it's easy to read and it's funny. I think you should check it out from the library, so you won't waste your money.

I love this book 5 out of 5 stars.

I love the delicious "cakes" she makes and how she misunderstands everything and takes it literally. I was laughing so hard when she served mr and mrs rogers a "chicken dinner" of cracked corn and a "sponge" cake!!! too hilarious

Amelia is so endearing 5 out of 5 stars.

More wacky times with the silliest maid ever...Amelia Bedelia is a total goof and seems to mess everything up with her misunderstanding of the simple directions she's given. She makes a sponge cake, with real sponge. Amelia is silly but very endearing, and you never know what she'll do next!

Amelia is going to follow directions! Here comes trouble! 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

Yes, Amelia Bedelia is going to do the best job she can, according to her understanding of directions! Ohhhh, and this time, she has an entire list of directions to mangle in her own unforgettable manner!

Chicken dinner? Sure -- what do chickens like to eat?

Potted plants? Get those pots out of the kitchen!

The charming illustrations move the story along, and young readers will adore every single page of Good Work, Amelia Bedelia.

Editorial Review:

A busy day

Mr. and Mrs. Rogers leave for the day and give Amelia Bedelia a long list of chores to do. Not one to stand still, Amelia Bedelia gets right to work -- with totally unexpected results!

Key to a Great Time 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

As a child I read "Key to the Treasure" by Peggy Parish at least three times, if not more. I became enraptured with the story line from the very beginning as the accidental discovery of a piece of paper rolled up in an old Indian war bonnet turns into the adventure of a lifetime for three young children.

What I enjoy most about Peggy Parish's book is that it is fiction based on facts. This lends a great deal of believability to the story while providing young readers with glimpses of a time when life was far more simple and yet much more fun. For this reason alone I purchased a new copy of the book for my nine-year-old daughter.

I highly recommend "Key to the Treasure" for children ages seven through twelve who enjoy reading and also enjoy using their imagination. Many hours of pleasure are sure to be derived from this book that I believe to be a classic children's story.

Editorial Review:

Each summer Lisa, Bill, and Jed visit their grandparents, and they hear the story of the sketches hung above the mantel. The sketches are clues to a hidden treasure, and no one has been able to figure them out for a century. There is a missing first clue, but when the children stumble upon the second clue, they're on their way. Could it be that on this visit they will solve the secret that has eluded so many for more than a hundred years?.

Great travel CD 5 out of 5 stars.

I purchased a couple of different Books on CD for a long trip. Amelia Bedelia was one of the funniest. My 7 yr old son enjoyed it alot. I will also be able to either give them to the schools now for there use or keep them and borrow them out. I haven't quite yet decided. Whatever I do they will be enjoyed for years to come.

My daughter has a fascination for monsters, so I knew that she would adore this book. Now she has a book about a monster that I can read to her at bedtime without worry of bad dreams. It's a very cute story.

No more monsters for me 5 out of 5 stars.

I cannot tell you how much my sons love this book! They love this green monster and all the silly things that he has done with Minn. My sons will ask me to read this story in the morning, in the afternoon, in the evening and for their bed-time story for a month and not feel tired of it!

OK 3 out of 5 stars.

Minneapolis Simpkin wants a pet. She and her mother fight about it all the time. Then one day she finds one, but it is a monster. But how can she ask her mom for a monster? Minneapolis hides the monster in her basement. When it eats everything in her house, she does not know what to do.

This is a more humorous story, especially if you are the kind of person who wants a pet. I think Minneapolis learns a lesson, that maybe what you want is not always what you expected. I think all of us can pretty much relate to that. If you enjoy homor stories, this is the right book for you.

Editorial Review:

Guess what's growing in the basement... A baby monster! Minneapolis Simpkin is hiding it down there. But a monster is a hard thing to keep secret, especially one that hiccups and cries, and gets bigger every hour.

Great Baseball Story 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 2 people found this review helpful.

In this edition of Amelia Bedelia, Peggy Parish has done another wonderful job at telling a wonderful story. Amelia Bedelia is making an attempt to play baseball, and she has managed to take the lessons literally, as always. She learns stealing bases are okay and putting players out. This is a favorite in my household, and we laughed at Amelia Bedelia's attempts of playing baseball.

Our favorite part was when she hit the winning run, 'stole' every single base along the way, and she ran home like everyone told her to with all the bases. The kids were wonderful in this story and patient, and it was a fantastic read.

I recommend the Amelia Bedelia books for every household. Amelia Bedelia is a fun character, and it will make the kids laugh.

Joy.

Editorial Review:

The Grizzlies are one player short for their big game when who steps in but everyone's favorite house-keeper, Amelia Bedelia. Always cheerful, always literal-minded, Amelia Bedelia brings new meanings to tagging a player out and stealing bases, but her unorthodox plays may just save the day. Recolored by the original illustrator, perennial favorite Amelia Bedelia is ready to play ball!

outdated dino ideas for kids 2 out of 5 stars.
9 of 10 people found this review helpful.

This is a poor resource for children who want to learn about dinosaurs, it gives outdated, incorrect information and illustrations to match. I had a copy of this book in elementary school and i kept it as a model of incorrect dino information.

Not a very good book 1 out of 5 stars.
7 of 9 people found this review helpful.

At one point, (page 14) the book and the tape don't match. The book lists Apatosaurus and the narrator says Brontosaurus. Will NOT buy this line of books again.

Meet America's favorite housekeeper! 5 out of 5 stars.

I loved Amelia Bedelia books since I was young and now my children share the same love for them. Three very humorous books! Amelia Bedelia; Thank You, Amelia Bedelia; and Amelia Bedelia and the Suprise Shower.

The last thing my neice asked before heading home was... 5 out of 5 stars.

Auntie S.

wonderful children's book! 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

Finding something that my son would read had become a challenge until I found out about these charming Amelia Bedelia books. For the first time ever he's actually willing to sit down and read (even on his own) about Amelia's mistakes and misunderstandings that are hilariously funny.

Amelia takes everything literally... dusting the furniture is literally putting dust on the furniture, drawing the curtains results in getting out a pad of paper and DRAWING the curtains.... you get the picture right?

Even as an adult I found the situations charming and was just as anxious to find out what she'd do next. There are pictures on every other page and the words are large typed and spaced far enough apart that it's not difficult at all for beginning or intermediate readers to read the 3 stories found in this book.

Great travel CD 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

We took a trip through 4 states and had purchased 5 sets of books on CD. They all worked out great. We put them in our portable DVD player w/double headset jacks and 2 of us could listen at the same time. We laughed together at how silly Amelia Bedelia can be. Great purchases with many years of enjoyment left in them.
