Adventure Underground!! 5 out of 5 stars.

Caves are no place to play around in as Will and Sarah soon find out. Good action and adventure in dark winding passages underground. The next best thing to being there is reading about it. Buy this book! For another great book about underground stories try, Steward's "Tales of Dirt, Danger, and Darkness."

This book was so great I mean I never read a better book. 5 out of 5 stars.

As I close my eyes I feel like I'm in the the cave with Willam "Little Bear" Tucker and Sarah. We're trying to escape these crooks who want to kill us with there guns. I really like this book beacause it has so many adventures within the Sacremento Mountain Range. If I was Sarah or William I would be so scared of these two crooks. But if William wasn't that smart they probaly would have been killed. I think that it doesn't matter what age you are. It also doesn't matter if you are a guy or girl, it matters if you like adventure.

Christmas sonata 5 out of 5 stars.

The first thought of the book was not very good but then when it got real good. It wasn't very good because they were getting packed to go see their cousins. Then when they got to the house it got real good. The story is about a kid who got cancer and all he really wants to see before he dies is Santa Claus and his reindeer. The best part is when the boy really gets to see Santa and his reindeer. The ending is good cause he gets to Santa Clause and his reindeer.

Editorial Review:

A young boy and his mother spend Christmas 1943 with relatives in northern Minnesota while his father is fighting in the war in Europe.  They take a long journey by train to a snowy land of vast frozen lakes, deep and sparkling cold, and the most magical Christmas tree the boy has ever seen.  He knows this will be the last Christmas he will spend with his cousin, who is dying.  The boy's uncle overhears the two cousins say there is no Santa Claus, and in a grand gesture that is nothing short of a Christmas miracle, he restores the children's faith in the spirit of the season.

Popcorn Days and Buttermilk Nights 3 out of 5 stars.
2 of 8 people found this review helpful.

I thought the book was pretty good. At first it was boring then it started to get good. I kinda wish it was longer in a way. But it was a really good book. I thought it was so good I think everyone should read it.

Popcorn Days and Buttermilk Nights 3 out of 5 stars.
2 of 3 people found this review helpful.

Popcorn Days and Buttermilk Nights is a book about Carley moving to his Uncle's farm. Carley's uncle lives in Norsten, Minnesota, which is a big change from the big city, Minneapolis. He learned to adapt to new lifestyles and found a new hobby that he could spend his time on. Then something happens to David and Carley is the only one who could help.

I think that this is an OK book. It has great descriptions," The grass in the pasture was wet green and heavy with dew, and my feet were soaked in no time at all. But it was warm now, and the wet didn't feel bad." It has a well-written story where you can never predict what is going to happen next and some events that may surprise you.

Sometimes the book can get a little boring. Especially in the beginning, "But it wasn't summer, it was high spring. This came just before low summer, which led to high summer and low fall and then middle fall and first freeze-which led to low winter, and high winter, and so on." Near the end it gets boring again until the last event, which is my favorite.

In the end of the book David and Carley make a great achievement that nobody thought was possible, not even to Carley himself. When David gets disappointed that he doesn't have enough money to send his kids to the circus, he gets an idea. He decides to build a circus. David and Carley build a the circus rides while others joined in to make circus games and food stalls.

Editorial Review:

Carley would rather be anywhere that in this poverty-stricken Minnesota farm town. Still, staying with his Uncle David's family is better than reform school--which is where Carley was headed. Paulsen is the award-winning author of Hatchet.

Will leave you rolling in laughter on the floor 5 out of 5 stars.

The book "Dunc and Amos Go to the Dogs" is a great book. If you have read any of his other books you will love this one. It is about Amos and his dog (which he thinks is no ones best friend) gets in a quarrel with a dogknapping scheme that goes wrong. And he has to find his dog which is not his best friend in the whole world. It is a good book because i like mysteries and if you read this book you will too. This is the best book that i have ever read and if you love mystery/suspence you'll love "Dunc and Amos books."

Dunc and Amos go to the dogs 3 out of 5 stars.

The book Dunc and Amos go to the dogs is a ok book not one of my fav.If you like to read mysteries books. It is about dogknapping dogs form the pound and moveing them eles where. Dunc and Amos got in the back of the truck they were loding the dogs up in.And they roaed in the back of it i till they came to a stop.At a empty house and when they stop they called the police and said that they found the dognappers. How were stilling the dogs from the town.So Dunc and Amos were recanized has a hero. So i think it was i pretty good book if you are in to dogs.

Editorial Review:

Anyone who knows Amos knows that in his case, dogs are definitely not man's best friends. Even his own dog growls and shows his teeth whenever Amos is around. Amos isn't exactly fond of Scruff either. It's a dog-eat-dog world. But when Scruff gets mixed up in a dognapping scheme, Amos and his best friend, Dunc, have to team up to spring him.

Outstanding and enjoyable way for young people to learn mythology 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

The premise of the Gary Paulsen "World Of Adventure" series is one that I strongly approve of. Young people can not only read an exciting adventure involving teen characters, but they will also learn something about mythology.
In this story, Warren Trumbull lives in a world where mythological creatures are a fact and often a nuisance. Princey is an eight-foot Cyclops and runs an agency that specializes in dealing with mythological creature removal. Warren and many other teen-age boys work for him. On this day, Warren and his friend Rick are assigned the task of killing a Gorgon residing in the basement of Helga Thorenson. It appears to be an easy assignment; they plan on using the tried-and-true method pioneered by Hercules.
Their first step is to go to the local rental store and obtain the necessary shields and swords. After some serious bargaining, they get them and proceed to the job site. This proves to be no average Gorgon, attempts by two previous workers led to them being turned into rockheads. After the initial battle, Rick is also turned to stone, so Warren is on his own. Using an inspired bit of cleverness, he manages to kill the Gorgon, which causes those turned to stone to revert to being human, albeit with some serious headaches.
I enjoyed this story, the "routine" interactions between humans and mythological creatures were fun to read about. A great deal of our western culture is based on the mythological creatures conjured up by the Greeks and young people should learn something about it. This book is one of the most enjoyable ways to do so.

Editorial Review:

Warren lives a world of adventure every day in his after-school job where he slays monsters and finds a tremendous challenge facing a Gorgon that he must battle without his sword.

The book that put you in the book 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

The book Brian's Winter has to be one of the best books that I have read in a long time. I am not the biggest fan of Gary Paulsen but, this book made me feel like I was actually at the camp he built and could hear all the sounds of nature.
When Brian Robeson's plane crashed, he was stranded in the northern Canadian Woods. Since the pilot of the plane died, Brian was on his own. After surviving the summer, he found a survival kit with food, water, a rifle and other essentials for surviving. Unfortunately, the rifle was broken after so many uses. He had to settle for the bow he made.
Brian had lost track of the days and didn't realize that winter was coming! The sign in which he realized winter would arrive soon is that cold rain poured for days. He began to worry and his food supply was low. To his luck, he saw wolves coming back from the woods with food in their mouths. He went to the area where they came from and found a half eaten doe lying out in the open. Brian needed food so he carried the doe back to camp.
As the days went by, the air became very cold. His doe meat was running low. He knew that he needed a larger animal to survive. Brian's old bow would not be able to kill large animals. So he made a larger bow with larger arrows. Brian also made a lance when he needed the extra boost. When he went out hunting, he came across a moose. The moose was enormous! Brian shot his large bow and hit the mark, but it didn't kill the moose. The moose charged, but Brian used the lance and stabbed it. After taking the moose back to camp, he realized his tattered and torn clothes would not suffice. So he made a jacket out of fur from the deer and rabbit fur. He also made moccasins out of the same material.
One morning he woke up to find layers of snow covering the entire woods! Brian could go nowhere with this thick snow. He easily resolved the problem by making snowshoes. One night while he was asleep, he heard an explosion like a gun shot! He thought that someone was out in the woods. In the morning Brian investigated the trees by the lake. He realized that the sap in the trees expanded in the tree that caused so much pressure the trees exploded. Many days later, Brian went looking around the woods. He found a peculiar track leading on to the lake. Brian followed the track to find a trapper family! They were out there in the woods every mid-winter. They had a bush plane that came by every three weeks. One week later, the plane came back and Brian returned home.

Editorial Review:

In Gary Paulsen's classic novel "Hatchet," thirteen-year-old Brian Robeson is stranded in the Canadian wilderness. To survive, he must rely on his intelligence, his instincts, and one tool: a hatchet. Finally, as millions of readers know, he is rescued at the end of the summer. But what if Brian hadn't been rescued? What if Brian had been left to confront his deadliest enemy--winter? Gary Paulsen raises the stakes for survival in his riveting and inspiring story as one boy faces the ultimate test and the ultimate adventure.

Editorial Review:

Jesse Rodriguez has a pretty exciting job for a 13-year-old, working for his friend Buck at a small flight and skydiving school near Seattle. But he still can't wait to turn 16 and finally be old enough to make his first free-fall jump from a plane. Buck has been like a father to him ever since Jesse's dad died, and has made sure that Jesse picks up all he needs to know about skydiving while he does odd jobs around the airport.

But Jesse and his friend Robin Waterford have also learned something very disturbing. Someone's been using the airport to smuggle members of a Central American drug cartel into the United States, and Jesse's worried that Buck is involved. Jesse and Robin find themselves in the middle of a dangerous international situation, and are forced to make their first jumps sooner than they ever expected!

Hilarious Harry 3 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

The Schernoff Discoveries is a quick moving, funny book about friendship. The story takes place in Minnesota, in two small towns called Hilard and Peat roughly 10 years ago. Gary tells the story about different hilarious challenges two good friends faced at fourteen years of age and what became of them.
I like The Schernoff Discoveries because it is about what happens in school and includes important issues like friendship and dealing with peer pressure. The main characters are Harold and Gary. They are two kids from different sides of the tracks. Harold is smart and daring; Gary is cautious and not so smart. One good example of Harold being daring and Gary being cautious, Harold decided that they needed to go skiing, because girls liked skiers. Harold read in a book on how, even though Gary was against this idea, he went along anyways. They should have listened to Gary. They enjoy school and like girls a lot. They figured out a way to change their schedules so that they would be the only boys in the Home Economics classroom full of girls. This worked for them because they could get to know the girls without competition or insults from other boys. On the downside, the boys were picked on for being the only boys in the room, especially by the football team. With the help of the Home Economics class, the girls and Harold were able to get even with the football team. They enjoy each other's friendship and play jokes on each other, even though others around them make fun of them calling them "geeks" and "nerds".
The story is very funny because during the story Gary talks about things he and Harold have done in the past. Gary is the one telling the story because Harold is the one who is always coming up with ideas for new ways to make money. Harold decided one day that they needed a car. It didn't matter that they weren't old enough to drive. Harold discovered a way for them to make a lot of money at a golf course, which they later used the money to buy the perfect car for a fourteen year old. All through the story Harold helps Gary with bullies and school by playing tricks on the bullies. Gary looks up to Harold because he is smarter than Gary. Gary comments, "Harold is good at everything, except fishing." Harold would try anything he had never tried before, but he would visit the library first. He had never tried fishing and decided he wanted to. He figured that Gary could teach him. Harold came equipped for a major fishing tournament; Gary came with string, hook and worms. This turned into a learning experience; Harold was able to hook everything, except a fish.
I would recommend this book to 6th and 7th graders because it is more at their reading level. Kids hate reading long books, so they will enjoy this quick paced, funny, short book.
This book showed how two friends could overcome bullying and has fun doing it. I like the way the story is being told in the present and the past. This book helps teenagers to relate with the characters. The things that Harold and Gary had to deal with are what so many kids these days deal with. This story shows kids that, you have to keep your head up and not give into peer pressure. Don't let anyone bully you, but most of all don't be a bully to anyone else. Most of all, that a true friend is a good friend.

Editorial Review:

Harold Schernoff, 14-year-old science whiz and social nerd, has a theory for every problem, from dating, to bullies, to making money, to sports, to how to buy a car when you're underage. When he and his buddy team up to put his theories to the test, nothing goes according to plan. A ski lesson becomes: Mass x Acceleration x Slope of hill = eeeAAGGHHH. As for first dates, only Harold could mastermind such disaster. Only Harold could go fishing and get caught by the fish. And only Gary Paulsen could write such a wonderfully funny story of friendship.
