The Grass Is Always Greener, But Is It? 5 out of 5 stars.

My kids, 5 and 7, enjoy this book, we've read it many times. Bill Peet books are favorites in our home. Of course it is OK to think about what it is like to be someone else, everyone does that sometimes. The great lesson is to realize that everyone has a journey that is filled with trials and triumphs. No matter who we are there are things to be grateful for and challenges that make us who we are...unique and wonderful. Great book!

Life is so. You've got to accept it as it is. 4 out of 5 stars.

To be an adult at my thirties, the book is not only fun, but kind of sad (because of being too true ) for me.

This is life. You've got to just accept it. Like how you look, what the birth background you have.... Taking the facts, then you can get relieved, and, furthermore enjoy what you have.

Great for Teaching Gratitude 5 out of 5 stars.

This is a wonderful book to give to young boys. My sons and nephews enjoy the message(s) of being happy with who you are, looking on the bright side of things, and being grateful for what you've been given. I love Bill Peet! If you're looking for other titles of his worth purchasing, I recommend --- (1) The Wump World, (2) Farewell to Shady Glade, (3) The Caboose Who Got Loose, and (4) The Whingdingdilly. Enjoy!

Editorial Review:

Wishing to be a bird, a little boy learns that there are benefits and drawbacks to every condition and that being a little boy may be the best of all.

The dichotomy of large creatures 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

This is classic Bill Peet (sans environmental message). It walks the fine line between suspense and pleasant (even humorous) resolution. It reminds children that they can be conflicted about what defines appropriate behavior. It has an ending that surprises the four-year-old. A delightful read.

Jethro and Joel Were a Troll 5 out of 5 stars.

Another Peet classic. Jethro and Joel are a two-headed troll, and Joel decides that a monster like them should be out causing aruckus. After a day of rampage, Jethro puts his foot down and surrenders to the king. The king says that it's off with their heads for the damage they've done. Will this be the end of Jethro and Joel?

Bill Peet's books are great! 4 out of 5 stars.

As always, another great book from this author. My kids (ages 7 and 3) always enjoy his engaging stories, the fun illustrations and Mr. Peet's wonderful sense of humor.

Editorial Review:

The good half of a two-headed troll gets them both in trouble when he lets the bad side rule for a day.

The book is an excellent way to stimulate childreen about reading. The young people that I read the book with enjoyed the crowing contest and acting like Dudley after they read the book. Kudos to Bill Peet!

The best of Bill Peet 5 out of 5 stars.
5 of 5 people found this review helpful.

We were given a very worn copy of this book, which set us off in search of a clean copy, and turned us on to the work of Bill Peet. "We" are a family of five, with two kids ( ages four and five) that are read to each night at bedtime. If you are a parent who engages in this reading ritual, then you know what a drag it is to read the same book 200 times in a year. You learn to dread having to read some books, and hope for others. "Randy's Dandy Lions" is the one I hope to have to read.

This book is written in a lyrical style that makes for a quick read. It is similar to "A Fly Went By", but without so much repitition. The artwork is excellent, which you know if you are familiar with the work Bill Peet. Some of his books are too long for reading to small children. This one is not.

A truly splendid picture book by a former Disney animator! 5 out of 5 stars.

I've always liked Bill Peet's work ever since I was a young girl because of his very zany style that he had inherited from his days at Disney's Studios. His illustrations in his delightful books for kids are quite elegant and humorous as well and he also had a poetic talent for creating animal fables all about lessons taught in a certain character's life. Here I recently came across this very amusing tale all about five crowardly lions who had to face the stage-fear of a big circus audience gawking at them. So the owner of the Big Top was forced to hire a very cruel lion-tamer to whip them into obedience. Instead, the five poor lions all began to howl and howl despite being threatened to be sold away or fed nothing but lettuce and heavily sprayed with water from elephants' trunks. And the whole circus suffered as a result from the mistreatment of such noble creatures like lions. What a beautiful story that carries a very stern moral that everyone of any age will understand at once!

Editorial Review:

Randy's dandy lions suffer from "cage fright" and are unable to perform their tricks for the circus audience.

Countdown to Christmas 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

This was my all-time favorite Christmas book as a child. It is an adorable story about having faith in the magic of Christmas. Santa tries hard to become "mod", and in doing so, loses sight of what Christmas is all about. He tosses his magic toy sack out into the snow and replaces it with a new, sythetic sack which is incapable of holding all the toys he needs to deliver on Christmas Eve. Santa realizes he's made a terrible mistake by tossing out the sack he's used his whole life and goes out on a search through the ice and snow to find it. Along the way he realizes that being "old-fashioned" isn't such a bad thing afterall! This book needs to come back into print. A new generation of children is missing out on a unique and much loved Christmas treasure!

Countdown to Christmas by Bill Peet 4 out of 5 stars.

This is a cute take-off on the classic "'Twas the Night Before Christmas." The story starts off on "the fourtheenth of December, way back in the sixties, 'twas the jet age remember?" Santa wants to update things a bit. He ditches his traditional, ratty old sack by throwing out the window into the wind and goes with a mod pschodelic version. He tries spray painting his sled in tie-dye fashion. Unfortunately, when he tries to pack the new bag, he can't fit the toys!! Now he is on a frantic search of the North Pole to find his bag. Will he find it? Will the children of the world ever find toys under the tree? Read the book to see.

Editorial Review:

Santa adopts a plastic toy sack and paints his sleigh psychedelic colors only to discover he has destroyed a magic necessary to Christmas.
