Red Riding Hood by James Marshal

In this version of Little Red Riding Hood Little Red disobeyed her mom. Her mom says, "Stay on the path". But she did not stay on the path. She found woof the wolf and he told her to pick flowers so he could get to Grandmas house before little Red Riding Hood got there the wolf got there and ate the Grandma. When Little Red Riding Hood s mother knocked at the door the wolf opened the door and he let little Red come in side. Little Red said " What big eyes you have" The walk said "More the better to seeyouwith my dear" "What big teeth you have". The wolf yelled "More the better to eat you my Dear"

Theme: Caution

Message: do not talk to people or animals you do not know. Because it is a warning sign because you could get eaten or kidnapped.

Genre: Fiction. Why: because wolfs cannot talk.

Audience: I would recommend this book to little kids because they do not know whets in the woods.
I liked this book because it was funny and it had a good lesson in it.

Editorial Review:

A little girl meets a hungry wolf in the forest on her way to visit her grandmother.

Remember this is book is geared for 9-12 yr olds 2 out of 5 stars.

It was my fault I did not pay attention to the reader age group 9-12yrs. I thought this book would have more details in the stories such as in the real Cinderella it mentions that the evil step sister had to cut parts of their feet to fit into the glass slipper, the prince notices the blood and then asked Cinderella the chamber maid to try on the slipper. This is never mentioned in this version. Of course I understand this is geared for children, and I was looking for the adult, true translation, version. The same for the Bluebeard story, looks like I will be returning my copy. Hopefully a younger person can find some use for this book.

Wonderful Charles Perrault 5 out of 5 stars.

This is a complete collection of the fairy tales collected by Charles Perrault, the heart and soul of European fairy tales. Beautiful illustrations, easy to read text, highly recommended. These are original versions, without the Disney "variations."

Editorial Review:

An illustrated collection of eleven classic tales including such favorites as The Little Red Hen, Cinderella, and Sleeping Beauty.

Editorial Review:

Charles Perrault first published his collection of classic French folk tales 300 years ago, including "Cinderella," "Sleeping Beauty," and this entertaining story about a most clever feline. In Puss and Boots, a poor miller dies and leaves his youngest son nothing but a cat. The son is none too happy about it, either; " ...once I've eaten my cat and made a muff out of the fur, I'm sure to starve," he says. But what a legacy the bequeathed cat turns out to be! The cat in tall boots creates a new identity for the youngest son--the Marquis of Carabas, complete with fine clothes, fields of wheat, a castle stolen from an ogre, and in the end, the respect of the king and the hand of the king's daughter. The story itself is gracefully and humorously told, and the text, set in large gray type, adds an old-fashioned air to the tale.

Fred Marcellino's illustrations for Puss in Boots--a Caldecott Honor Book--are infused with golden light and summer warmth in the sun-dappled woods and beside the fields of ripe grain. Many of his paintings show a masterful use of perspective; the reader sometimes looks down on a scene as though from a balcony, or from below, at a huge charging lion. Marcellino has also illustrated a version of Hans Christian Andersen's The Steadfast Tin Soldier and two books by Tor Seidler, A Rat's Tale and The Wainscott Weasel. Young listeners won't soon forget this crafty character of a cat, who has a great deal of charm despite his less-than-honest means of helping his master. (Ages 5 to 9)

Cinderella, a fairy tale Illustrated by Loek Koopmans 5 out of 5 stars.
9 of 9 people found this review helpful.

This is one of the best retold stories of Cinderella out there. The story is clear and one that students grades 2 - 4 would benefit from reading, both for enjoyment and to boost their reading skills. The illustrations are lighthearted, colorful and pleasant, contrasting with the somewhat forbidding and fearsome illustrators of other fairy tales. This makes the book even more appropriate reading for the younger child as throughout the story there is a more hopeful tendency towards Cinderella's eventual outcome. I'm definitely ordering a few for my second grade classroom.

Editorial Review:

"Illustrations featuring mix of styles in both clothing and architecture set the story in an imaginary yet vaguely familiar landscape, lit by a dreamlike haze. The smoothly told story...contains the familiar details and a happy ending in which Cinderella forgives her stepfamily." (The Horn Book Club)

This satisfying tale never grows old. Koopman's illustrations are jewel-toned and Cinderella herself...is attractive as a person and figure." (Yellow Brick Road)

Little Red Riding Hood by Perrault, illus. by Sarah Moon 5 out of 5 stars.
8 of 9 people found this review helpful.

I enjoyed the story as Perrault wrote it, not as yet another alternate version with yet another happy ending. Red Riding Hood, also available in French as Le Petit Rouge, contains marvelous photos by Sarah Moon which lend an eerie, appropriately menacing mood to an already dark tale. It should be said, however, that this book is unsettling and is undoubtedly not one to share with your child as a bedtime story.

The sad ending for Riding Hood is dramatic and revealing 5 out of 5 stars.

Fans of artistic photo books for kids will find this an intriguing contemporary treatment of the Red Riding Hood classic. Here a little country girl faces urban and rural threats on her way to grandmother's house, only to find her grandmother has been replaced by an evil wolf. The sad ending for Riding Hood is dramatic and revealing, providing a realistic twist on the fairy tale.

Editorial Review:

The cautionary tale "Little Red Riding Hood" is intrepreted by internationally-known photographer Sarah Moon. This title includes the original text by Perrault and features brilliantly stark imagery. It is recommended for ages 14 and up.

Charles Perrault was a French civil servant in the late 1600s. He had a little son, and decided to write down to old French folk tales that he heard the servants telling and retelling. These include Cinderella, Blue Beard and even Sleeping Beauty.

Editorial Review:

Original versions of "Cinderella," "Sleeping Beauty," "Little Red Riding Hood," and more. With 34 magnificent illustrations by Gustave Doré.

A Unique and Compelling Cinderella 5 out of 5 stars.
19 of 19 people found this review helpful.

If you are a Cinderella fan, this book, illustrated by Roberto Innocenti, is a must. I have read countless versions of Cinderella and looked at numerous illustrations. I have never seen the story treated like this. Innocenti sets Cinderella in the 1920s with flapper clothes and cars (instead of a pumpkin carriage). Never fear, a glass slipper is still here. I am usually tired of Cinderella books, to be honest, but this one kept me turning pages to see what was going to happen. I have become selective in my Cinderella purchases, but I had to own this one.

The ISBN for the Roberto Innocenti version is 1568461305. The reviews for the different versions of Cinderella sometimes get confused, but this is the book you will want to get.

Editorial Review:

Italian artist Roberto Innocenti's elegantly rendered illustrations breathe fresh air into this age-old tale of the girl who rises from the depths of sadness and misfortune to become the belle of the ball, surprising those who mistakenly think they know her.
