Not Just For Boys 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

After only a few reading, my 3yrs old daughter fills in the sentences as I read the glibe and rhytmic text. The synopsis says "sure to be embraced by boys"; do not let this misguide you from purchasing a fun and mischievious book.

Editorial Review:

Maybe you and the kids on your block are like Harvey and the kids on his block. Maybe you all live near a vacant lot. Maybe you all like to play ball. And maybe, just maybe, one of you has just eaten a worm.

A charming children's book that even adults will love 5 out of 5 stars.

I am still giggling at the original rhymes perfectly paired with imaginative illustrations in this terrific book for young kids that parents will enjoy reading to them time and again. I can't get over the clever, exquisite art work that call to mind works of Mattisse and Chagal.

Sweet , original book for children and dog lovers alike. 5 out of 5 stars.

What a wonderful little book. While the rhyme of Mr. Prelutsky is always fresh and fine, it was the illustrations that captured my mind. Dyanna Wolcott has a wonderful eye for the child like experience. She captures the world of dogs with a fanciful blend of humor, originality and blazing color. As a book of months this is a wonderful teaching tool. But I found it a special book for dog lovers too. I gave a copy to my daughter as a gift. She's 42!

Editorial Review:

I am a dog who scribbles rhymes
About my many happy times.
I wrote this book to make it clear
That I have fun around the year.

Learning about the 12 months of the year is more fun than ever with Jack Prelutsky’s rhymes and Dyanna Wolcott’s illustrations. Told and pictured from a dog’s point of view, this bright little book makes you want to kick up your heels and be a dog for a day!

Wacky characters come to life in this brilliant poem book. 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

"Poems of A. Nonny Mouse" is a wacky book of poems from the mind of Jack Prelutsky along with surreal illustrations by Henrik Drescher. This book is about a mouse that was referred to at the beginning as "Anonymous" due to the writer making a mistake of not noticing her because she is a mouse. "Poems of A. Nonny Mouse" is full of silly poems about animals, inanimate objects, and people doing silly activities.

My favorite poems in this book include the poem about a woman who ate so much at a restaurant that her face turned as white as snow, the famous tongue-twister poem about how much a woodchuck would chuck, the poem about a tiger who ate a lady from Niger, and the poem about a neat lady from Crete who would stand on her head to avoid soiling her feet.

Jack Prelutsky's writing is full of wacky humor and witty poems that will make both children and adults laugh at these wacky characters' antics. Henrik Drescher's illustrations work will with Jack Prelutsky's humorous poems as the illustrations are filled with surreal characters such as, human characters that are part bird as they have wings and beaks attached to their bodies, people and animals popping out of other people's or animals' mouths, and most of the characters having long, stringy limbs that bend at impossible angles. "Poems of A. Nonny Mouse" is an instant poetic treat suitable for young children ages four and over and even suitable for the adults.

Editorial Review:

An illustrated collection of primarily traditional or anonymous verses.

Mummy, what's a flummy? 4 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

"At first I thought, "I'll touch it,"/and then I thought, "I won't,"/and when again I thought, "I will,"/the snopp said softly, "Don't."" These amusing and lyrical rhymes of imaginary creatures such as the snopp (who looks a mop), the gibble, the monumental meath, and many others will keep children and their adults giggling and wanting more. Lots of new words are made up along the way (read Flonster Poem to discover more about flimes, floobers, flummies and fleemies) which children will enjoy tremendously. The monochromatic illustrations of some most unusual creatures wearing human garb help tell the poem's stories as well as spark young reader's imaginations. Twelve poems in all, of various lengths to suit many time lines. A fun introduction to poetry to read aloud to very young children or for older children to read on their own.

Creepy! 4 out of 5 stars.

You wouldn't expect it from Prelutsky's better know works, but this book is really creepy! The grey illustrations really enhance the effect. I'm told that I loved it before I was old enough to understand the words, so parents searched high and low for a copy. When they finally got a hold of this library edition (pre-internet) the poems scared me. Now i love it again - especially the snopp - poor lonely snopp - and the wozzit in the closet (it's eaten mother's dress!!)!

Editorial Review:

Twelve poems about snopps, grobbles, flonsters, and other fantastic creatures.

Editorial Review:

Monday's troll is mean and rotten,
Tuesday's troll is misbegotten...

As for Wednesday's troll--and all the others--as soon as you read about them, they will be in your head (and heart) forever.

Once again the collaborators of The Dragons Are Singing Tonight have combined their extraordinary talents to concoct an irresistible collection of trolls, wizards, witches, giants, ogres (and a solitary yeti). No spell is needed for these poems and pictures to enchant the reader. Just open the book!

"Jack Prelutsky is up to his usual hilarious no good in this new collection of witchy, wizardly, ogreish poems....Among the subjects of these briskly amusing poems is a wizard who rashly makes himself disappear, a seven-century-old apprentice witch....and a family-type ogre....Prelutsky's skill with catchy rhymes and delightfully fiendish subject matter is complemented by Peter Sis's humorously foreboding and cheerfully nonchalant illustrations. Another treat for Prelutsky fans."--Horn Book.
