We love Mr. Putter and Tabby! 5 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

My children, ages three and five, adore Mr. Puuter and Tabby, and I believe this is Ms. Rylant's funniest rendition of their adventures so far. When the box arrived, I read the book alone because I couldn't stand to wait. Ms. Rylant uses a nice collection of short and medium-length words for beginning readers, and the story rollicks along. Mr. Howard's illustrations capture the subjects' expressions beautifully. We checked these books out of the library so often that we finally ordered some to keep.

Mr.Putter and Tabby Paint the Porch 5 out of 5 stars.

My three year old daughter Serena loves this book, we've read it and our two other Mr.Putter and Tabby books every night since we got it. she always laughs at mTabby's pink whiskers. This series of books is fun to learn to read from and a frolic for everyone.

Editorial Review:

Mr. Putter wants to paint his porch. He has a bucket of pink paint, a big brush, and some rags. And he has Tabby to keep him company. Everything is perfect, until a squirrel scampers onto the porch and catches Tabby’s eye. . . .

My 5 year old and I loved this book. The 3 stories made us laugh out loud and the pictures are adorable. We will definitely read the other Poppleton books.

A great book about friendship 5 out of 5 stars.

Poppleton and friends consist of three different stories about friendship. All three stories are interesting and humorous. My favorite one is about the grapefruit. In the story, Poppleton thinks that if he eats grapefruit he will live to be one hundred. Unfortunately, he does not like grapefruit. Read to find out how Hudson's Uncle Bill tells him how he can live to be one hundred. The illustrations are appealing and very humorous to both children and adults.

My son loves it! 5 out of 5 stars.

My eight-year-old is a big fan of Poppleton books. Most of them he checks out from the library. Boy, he sure was excited to receive this book from Santa.

Another great book 5 out of 5 stars.

I love this series! This book as well as the other books in this series, is wonderful and funny. We have read this one over and over again and my daughter never grows tired of it. I highly recommend this book as well as the other books in the series.

Editorial Review:

A sequel to the popular children's book introduces the beloved pig's extraordinary friends and explains how Poppleton learns how to live to be one hundred years old. By the author of the Henry and Mudge series."

My 8 year old son and I have enjoyed all of the Lightouse books. They are endearing, delightful and touching. The subject matter is light, family oriented and yet keeps my son's attention. He is enamoured of all the characters and I feel confident that he will return to these books many times.

Editorial Review:

A thick fog has found its way up north to the lighthouse family, surrounding the cliffs and waters below. Always ready to lend a hand, the lighthouse siblings Whistler and Lila help Seabold guide small ships to land. As they overlook the foggy waters, they hear a distant voice echoing from the rocks below. Who could it be?

Using only a rope and their hearts to guide them, Seabold, Lila, and Whistler make their way down the side of the cliff. And what they discover will help them weather even the thickest fog -- a new friend.

Children love it 5 out of 5 stars.
15 of 15 people found this review helpful.

From an adult viewpoint, I thought the book was "very nice", but my child fell in love with this book. I am rating it as he would rate it. After all, the book is intended for children. He came home from school one day to describe a wonderful story that their teacher had read to them. He said it was so special because the words were soft and pleasing. This is a first! He also loved the pictures. So,I couldn't resist getting him a copy for Christmas.

A beautifully illustrated book! 3 out of 5 stars.

Although I usually love Ms. Ryland's work (this is the 5th book by the author I have) and the illustrations are warm, colorful, and inspiring, I felt the story to be not very easy for children to understand and not as particularly uplifting as some of her other works. I was a little disappointed but will continue to read it to my children as they age and see if they catch on.

Editorial Review:

The world becomes an extraordinary place when viewed through the eyes of a scarecrow.
They perch high above gardens and fields, with borrowed coats and button eyes and pie-pan hands that glint in the sun. What else is there to know about scarecrows? Perhaps more than we realize. . . .

Another charmer from WV author 5 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

I LOVE this book! I did a literature box on this book for a class and fell in love with the characters. It's about 3 cousins who live w/ their aunt for the summer while their parents are on a ballet tour. They go through different adventures, facing each one with courage, ingenuity, and wit. They contain great character ed models. I would recommend to any 1-6 grader(especially girls) who like a good read.

Loved this Series! 5 out of 5 stars.
3 of 4 people found this review helpful.

My second grade daughter loved this series! These were books that she would read on her own without having to be encouraged to do so. When she took a break from reading the books, she would use her imagination to play out parts of the stories. There are very few books that she's done that with. My one piece of advice with this series is that the first book (In Aunt Lucy's Kitchen) should be read first. It introduces the characters that are in the rest of the books. After that, I'm not sure that it's crucial which order the stories are read until the last 2 books. They should definitely be saved for last. They deal with the cousins leaving Aunt Lucy and then returning for Aunt Lucy's wedding. I'm a big fan of Cynthia Rylant's and these books lived up to her reputation.

Meet The
COBBLE STREET COUSINS

  • Lily, who wants to be a poet
  • Tess, who wants to be a Broadway star
  • Rosie, who wants a little cottage with flowers by the door

Right now, though, the cousins are sharing an attic bedroom in their Aunt Lucy?s light blue house on Cobble Street, and happily making plans for the summer. A cookie company seems the perfect way to make a little money, but it turns out to be much more -- an opportunity to meet some very special neighbors!

Mr. Putter and Tabby Write the Book 4 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

In this most recent installment of Cynthia Rylant's Mr. Putter & Tabby series, Mr. Putter decides to write a book. But not just any book, a mystery. So Mr. Putter thinks up a title-'I shall call my book The Mystery of Lighthouse Cove', he says-and, being so pleased with this title, Mr. Putter decides to fix himself-and Tabby-a snack. But fixing the snack takes a lot longer than thinking up a book's title. And after Putter is finished eating his snack, he's much to tired to write. So he takes a nap.

By the next day, after a breakfast of oatmeal and tea, Mr. Putter is in tiptop shape and ready to write again. But first he has to clean Tabby's ears, find a sweater to wear, move his chair, and then move the chair back. Then Mr. Putter is ready to write. But thinking is hard for our easily-distracted hero, and he only gets as foar as writting Chapter One before he sees a rabbit outside. This reminds him of Easter and Easter reminds him of boiled eggs. So Mr. Putter decides to fix another snack-twenty boiled eggs and vegetable stew. But fixing the snack takes a lot longer that writing 'Chapter One' did, so Mr. Putter, instead of writing, decides to take a bath. And then he takes yet another nap.

By the third chapter, Mr. putter is up and ready again to write. But first he and Tabby have cinnamon toast and tea. Then Mr. Putter begins thinking...thinking... and thinking. Mr. Putter is thinking not about his mystery 'book', though. We find Putter thinking about good things in life and then making a list of them. Mr. Putter works on his list all day long. Then he goes to see his neighbor, Mrs. Teaberry, who loves his list and even gives it a good 'review'. The story should end here but it doesn't. It ends with Mr. Putter, Tabby, Mrs. Teaberry, her dog, Zeke, and a collection of their neighbors heading to the local diner to buy vanilla malts. A little too sappy for my tastes, but...

Arthur Howards illustrations in 'Write the Book' are some of the best I've seen and, though his first painting of Zeke, Mrs. Teaberry's dog, looks a little amatuerish, he really pulls it off. Though his art COULD easily be confused for that of Betsy Lewin's, I'm interested to see what he does after the Mr. Putter and Tabby serial.

    R, your friendly neighborhood reviewer.

Mr. Putter has always wanted to write a mystery novel--and Tabby is happy to help. But who knew there would be so many delicious distractions along the way?

Mr. Putter and Tabby Walk the Dog 5 out of 5 stars.
8 of 8 people found this review helpful.

Simple language and a hilarious storyline make this book perfect for the voracious or the reluctant reader. Mr. Putter and his cat tabby are a delightful pair, and their encounter with the neighbor's nightmare pooch will have kids laughing aloud. The accompanying illustrations only add to the text.

Perfect for children to read on their own, or with the help of a parent (because parents will find these stories equally charming).

walking the dog no walk in the park! 4 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

Mr Putter & his cat companion, Tabby, do the right thing by volunteering to walk the neighbor's dog when the neighbor is injured. The dog takes total advantage of novices & runs them ragged the 1st few days. Mr Putter stoops to bribery to get the dog to behave better the rest of the time. The neighbor never knows the whole story. My guess is Mr Putter & Tabby think twice before offering to help that way again! My 7 1/2 yr old daughter & I have been reading together for yrs & are devotees of Cynthia Rylant's work. We have only been reading the early reader Mr Putter & Tabby series for the last yr. It has the wonderful ability to appeal not only to the new reader mastering the skill, but also to the experienced reader, overseeing the learning process, or continuing to read to the child. This is a feat as many "early readers" captivate the early reader but put to sleep the overseeing adult!

    Editorial Review:

Mr Putter and his fine cat, Tabby, live next door to Mrs Teaberry and her little lollypup, Zeke. They think Zeke is a dream dog. So when Mrs Teaberry hurts her foot and can't walk him for a week, Mr Putter and Tabby volunteer. They soon discover that Zeke isn't a dream dog after all. He might even be... a nightmare.

Putter is so sweet 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

My son and I love the Mr. Putter books. They are nice stories with some cute situations to give the parents a chuckle. These really keep my son's attnetion (the suggested age is 4-8; my son is younger).
I believe this is the newest of the Putter and Tabby books. It's just as good as the rest.

Ok but not Great 3 out of 5 stars.
1 of 9 people found this review helpful.

This is our first experience with the Mr. Putter and Tabby series...and I can't say I was all that impressed. As we first encounter him, Mr. Putter admittedly feels he isn't a very good neighbor to Mrs. Teaberry because she's always doing nice things for him (mostly involving yummy treats for him and the cat), and he doesn't really do anything for her (except eat her treats)...so he sets out to do something nice and neighborly for her. What ensues is a rather madcap attempt at "helping" out Mrs. Teaberry with her knitting club meeting.

Amazon lists no age range for this book, though I assume 1-8 or so, with 1-5 being more of a read aloud story and 5-8 being a read alone for beginner readers. The illustrations are cartoonish (which is nice, very vivid colors) and really help the story along for younger listeners and readers. It's really just a nice, short and sweet story that is ideal for a quick bedtime or story carpet session, but not much else. We may try some of the others in this series, but I'm just not in love with it. I'm not likely to buy any of these, nor would they be the first thing I'd recommend. I give it a B, there's nothing wrong with it, its just not all that exciting.

    Editorial Review:

Mrs. Teaberry announces that she's starting a knitting club, and Mr. Putter is happy to help out. But disaster strikes when Tabby and Zeke want to pitch in, too: Mrs. Fitzwater's sweater completely unravels, and the whole afternoon ends up in quite a tangle.

My daughter is 3 and LOVES all of the Poppleton books. The three stories within one book combine fun and silliness with subtle points about friendship, sharing or kindness. Rylant's "Mr. Putter and Tabby..." series are also at the top of our Favorites List.

If you read the Poppleton series you will learn from how to he treats his friends and how his friends treat him. Do you want to be tough and helpful? Then read Poppleton. Even though Poppleton looses his temper sometimes, he is still a good character. So check for Poppleton in the library, at the store, or read it at school. Poppleton is the book for you.

    Review by Maelle

If you want to learn about friendship, you should read Poppleton Forever. Poppleton learns if you're mean and you're sorry friends will usually forgive you.

If you ever thoght Poppleton doesn't loose his temper, you were wrong. He looses his temper in Poppleton Forever in the chapter Wallpaper. His friends didn't put up the wallpaper like he wanted. And Poppleton yelled at them. They were nice and came over just to help him. I don't think you should yell at your friends. It might make them not want to be his friends.

Read other Poppleton books. These are good for second graders and 6-7 year olds.

In three charming new stories, Poppleton the pig gets help from his friends when his new tree begins to wilt; when he catches a cold; and later, when he decides to wallpaper his house. Learning is great for Poppleton, but it's much better when it's done with friends. Full color.
